I brought up the same question about my reported best shares being much higher than the pool status page bestshare, yet was told to 'Not worry about it'... So who knows.  Lips sealed

...You are, however, arguing with Kano which will get you banned or jumped on by half the community. Just a heads up.

Initially, I wasn't going to respond to that part, but....

It leads me to ask, "If two grown men on a site can't have a rational conversation (heated or otherwise) without one one of them getting banned (or uninvolved 3rd parties 'jumping on' one of them), should a grown man care if he gets banned from such a site?"

Now, that's not to say I want to be banned; just that all ongoing conversations are 2-way exchanges and I have better things to worry about than if random strangers get butthurt over random comments on the interweb.

If you have to ask "why?", you wouldn`t understand my answer.

On to something that actually matters to me...

I have a question that I'm not sure if goes here or in ckpool/proxy, but here goes:

Firstly, I'm aware that "best share" doesn't really "matter" (especially so soon after reboots); however, I despise synchronization issues.

That being said:
I'm running all machines through ckproxy.
I have a 28,181,771(.733868394) best share reported by the site.
I have a 76,532,480 report from machine 1
I have a 42,359,439 report from machine 3
I have a 37,693,724 report from machine 8

Any idea why the mis-match?

If your "machines" are ASIC's with custom versions of CGMiner then they may have broke a portion of the code that reports the best share.  That's the explanation I've seen when others have asked that anyway.

Just a WAG,
Sam

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?

No more custom than any other S7 or S9

By "custom" he meant the antpoo fork of cgminer, which is notorious for incorrectly reporting the best share, among other things.

And here all this time I thought Bitmain made miners and ran a pool.  Shocked
Thanks for letting me know that the pool makes the miners.  Roll Eyes

However, converting that to 1 in Xyears is incorrect.

Then why do you do it in your calculator?

Simply coz it caters for people with enough hash rate to get a valid number there also.
I guess if you enter a small hash rate I could ban you from seeing that number if you thought that was appropriate ... ... ... ... ...
However, no one has ever donated a single satoshi to that web site in the years it's been there, so I only change it when I feel like it, not when people complain about it trying to cover their mistakes Smiley

I guess it would help if you actually bothered to look what's there also ...
Scroll down and it allows you to estimate the diff change and thus get a BTC estimate based on your choice of diff changing.

Yep, caters for all sorts of people to get estimates Smiley

More out of nostalgia than anything else, I broke out my old mining kit (Raspberry Pi and some hubs) and installed a trio of Block Erupters on it. I've got them pointed at the pool now. I figure I have about as much chance of hitting a block with a whopping 1GH/s as I do at winning the gazillion-dollar lottery, but hey, either way it's a dream. Smiley

And all this time I thought that anyone with an education beyond grade 3 knew that the delusional perception of my taking a comment "out of context" and your notion of a "hatchet job" of a comment weren't the same thing (or even close to the same thing).

In context:

Q: Why, in the name of all that is holy, would anyone pay you anything for a stand-alone page that even you admit is lacking.

A: Your inane hubris that comes from your beloved sycophants feeding your narcissistic delusions of grandeur.

It's not that hard to follow along...
Kano made a page on the interweb and titled it "Pool BTC Calculator" (he referred to that page [and presumably including the coinciding page titled "POT Share Calculator"] as a "site").

If you have to ask "why?", you wouldn`t understand my answer.

Best share stats are reset upon a restart of the server ... your miner can report 1 Trillions Best Share value, and after the reboot you'll only see the best share since the restart.

Otherwise, I never saw my best share not matching the one from the stats.

It just give you an idea of what it would take if the Diff doesn't change for a year. We all know it doesn't work like that. Why is this so outrageous ?

Because Kano likes to be a pseudo-intellectual.
In his mind:
Quote
Chance of you finding a block in one day:    1 in 1,929.6
is, somehow, magically different than
Quote
Your Average Time per Block: 1929days 14hr 58min 29sec[1]

He just can't grasp that saying "1 in 1,929.6" and "average of ~5.3 years" (based on 5.5TH/s) are the exact same thing.
Basically if you're not a sycophant, you're wrong even if you agree. Undecided

[1] 1929days 14hr 58min 29sec = ~5.3 years
