1021  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A nob in trading needs help on: May 05, 2023, 11:13:39 PM
At this level, I am well informed about Bitcoin and its securities, I have read on the forum how Bitcoin and cryptocurrency trading has changed people's lives, and I am kind of interested in acquiring skills, I have read in many other threads on how risky Bitcoin trading is.

But at this point, I will really like to know whether or not Bitcoin trading is a means to gain profits during market speculations, and how possible it is to make passive income through cryptocurrency trading.

Oh absolutely, investing in cryptocurrencies is the surefire way to get rich quick without any effort at all. Just throw your money at the market and watch the profits roll in!  Cheesy

But seriously, I cannot understand people who ask questions like this. What do you expect? Step-by-step instructions on how to make millions trading? And what do you mean by passive income from trading? If the profit comes from active trading then it cannot be called passive income, right?
1022  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Understanding cryptocurrencies and investment. on: May 05, 2023, 10:42:02 PM
How do we identify the best coin and the period to invest in these types of coins?

Relying on others for investment advice without conducting your own research is a dangerous game. The cryptocurrency market is complex and unpredictable, with a high degree of volatility that can result in significant losses if not approached with caution.

Even if someone offers you a specific investment proposal, it is always important to do your own due diligence and research before investing your hard-earned money. Blindly following the advice of a stranger can lead to disastrous results, and you should understand the risks and potential rewards of any investment before making a decision. There are many fraudulent schemes out there that promise high returns on investment, but in reality, they are designed to scam unsuspecting investors.
1023  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Questions of the day for gamblers on: May 02, 2023, 08:43:12 PM
What is the most convenient games you play on gambling platforms?

In my opinion, live dealer games are definitely gaining popularity and are becoming more and more mainstream in the online gambling industry. Although they do provide an immersive gaming experience, I personally prefer the older, tried-and-true casino games such as dice, slots, and roulette. There's something about the simplicity and classic nature of these games that keeps me coming back for more. I find them to be more relaxing and enjoyable compared to other games.

Is using leverage about luck or skills? Or even a rigged game?

Are you talking about gambling or trading? If you were asking about gambling and the use of leverage in that context, it would depend on the specific game or activity. In some cases, leverage can be used to potentially increase winnings, but it would still be considered a form of gambling and still require an element of luck.
1024  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal for AI Integration with BitcoinTalk forum on: May 02, 2023, 07:53:56 PM
However, the vast amount of information on the BitcoinTalk forum can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate, especially for new users. This is where AI comes in. By integrating AI technology, we can create a more user-friendly experience for both new and existing users.

The proposed project aims to use AI algorithms to analyze and categorize the forum's data, allowing users to easily search and find information on specific topics.
So in regards to this point, I have a suggestion to make that how about if "Theymos" could make provision for "tags" for each content created on the forum, because just as we currently have spot for only "Title and Body of the contents", if tags can be added it will make it easy for people to search for such contents on the forum and see it,  just as it's applicable on Youtube and blogs, whereby making it very easy for people to search on Google and can easily find whichever content they may be looking for. If the forum can implement "tags" (space for content related keywords), it will also be an added advantage.

Although the general idea seems sound, I see certain issues with its practical implementation. Specifically, the question of who will be responsible for assigning tags to posts, and how we will ensure their accuracy if the authors themselves are responsible for tagging their content.

In my experience, users tend not to care about or even notice things like tagging conventions and structure; they just want the  content to be visible. I think that if we are going to rely on authors to tag their own content, we will end up with inconsistent tagging and poor search results. I also find it difficult to believe that we will be able to enforce the policy consistently.

All works of art have their own characteristics, so in my opinion, all those who participate in art contests are great people because they dare to show their skills and talents in this contest. but indeed this contest is only for people who are talented in artistic talent and of course have high self-confidence to participate. whoever the winner is, of course he doesn't mean he's superior to the others because everything is judged by the jury.

I once asked who judged Roobet's artwork, whether he is a person who is also talented in art and understands art, so he knows which is the best work of art. It would be a shame if only ordinary people were the judges judging this work of art because art can only judged by people who understand art too.

I disagree. The artistic value of a work of art is subjective anyway, in my opinion. People "understand" art in different ways, and although art experts are right in their judgments more often than not, they are surely not always right. And it's not math. You can't know what is "right" with certainty. That's why I think it's fair that the sponsors are the judges. Since they are giving their money to the artists, they have all the right to give it to whoever they like. I myself wouldn't sponsor the art that I don't like, and, so, and I don't expect that from others.

Absolutely correct! Artistic value is subjective, and even experts can have different opinions on what makes a piece of art great. It is always a matter of personal preference. I also agree that it is fair for sponsors to be the judges since they are the ones putting up the prize money. It is their right to choose what they like. And in fact, I think that it would be good for the community if there were more competitions like this. It is a good way to get people talking about casinos and other businesses that organize them.

Have you forgotten about CryptoKitties, one of the first? Or do you not consider it a game in that sense?

We also have The Sandbox Metaverse, where players can build, own and trade their gaming assets as NFTs.

I am not entirely convinced about using AI for this purpose. Sure, it could make the forum easier to navigate and help users find what they are looking for, but I am worried it might take away from the personal touch of the community. There is just something about a forum where people are posting and replying to each other that makes it feel more personal, that cannot be replaced by automated algorithms. Besides, there have already been cases where AI-powered content recommendation systems have gone wrong, such as when Twitter's algorithm started recommending conspiracy theories and fake news to users. The same thing could happen with forums. I think it would be more beneficial for us to focus on improving the quality of our existing posts instead. Maybe we could find a middle ground, where AI is used to assist human moderation instead of completely taking over.
1028  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Hacker moved coins from my wallet on: April 30, 2023, 06:03:51 PM
Regrettably, stories of this nature seem to surface all too often. What frustrates me most about such cases is that the truth behind them is often shrouded in mystery. There could be a multitude of reasons why someone's cryptocurrency is compromised - an unsecured wallet or device (where the thief had physical access to the computer), malware or spyware on the system, falling prey to a phishing attack (where the user knowingly or unknowingly exposed the private key or seed to third parties), an outdated or insecure operating system (many people are hesitant to admit using a cracked version of software, which could introduce numerous threats), or even a remote hack on the system. The list of potential culprits is virtually endless.

What we can be sure of is that these cases are isolated and do not reflect the overall security of the Electrum wallet. Electrum is a reputable and widely used cryptocurrency wallet that has undergone numerous security audits and has proven to be highly secure.

By the way, OP, I'm sorry for your loss. This may be a good time to consider getting a hardware wallet to prevent situations like this from happening again in the future.
1029  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: low-cost hardware wallet for less than 10 dollars on: April 30, 2023, 05:29:39 PM
Cheap devices are always scary, the obvious question would be what makes them sell it at such a low price?

People usually buy hardware wallets to store large amounts of bitcoins because these devices have high security, but buying cheap wallets will make people not sleep at night because of worrying about losing their precious bitcoins.

I do not know, but if I have a large amount of gold, for example, I will not venture to build a cheap safe in order to save some money because I am afraid that it will be easy to break. On the contrary, I will pay more money in order to obtain the highest protection.

Yes, when it comes to cheap hardware wallets, it is wise to consider the quality of the device and the level of security it offers. It is possible that some manufacturers may cut corners on security features or use lower quality components, which could put your bitcoins at risk. While DIY projects can be satisfying for those who enjoy crafting, they may not be the best choice for less experienced users who are unaware of potential risks.

But, if someone is buying a cheap hardware wallet, then it is most likely that they are looking for something to store a small amount of bitcoins. I disagree that it is not possible to find a good quality, cheap hardware wallet. There are some high-quality hardware wallets out there that are very affordable and easy to use, so you don't have to spend thousands of dollars on a device. Besides, a cheap commercial wallet is still a safer option compared to using a hot wallet on a computer or mobile device. In fact, there are far more instances of funds being lost due to malware or phishing attacks than those resulting from hacking a hardware wallet, since the latter generally requires physical access to the device.
1030  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Difference between Lighting Network and Bitcoin on: April 30, 2023, 04:46:27 PM
Quote
While Bitcoin transactions are publicly recorded on the blockchain, the Lightning Network transactions are not.

I would differ here. LN transactions may not be instantly written on bitcoin blockchain but after the channel is closed the transactions goes to on-chain (correct me if I am wrong).

LN has some WOW features to offer but somehow it failed to took off. People despite all odds still prefer to use bitcoin on-chain instead of LN.

As already mentioned by ETFbitcoin, the Lightning Network is not part of the Bitcoin protocol or network. From my understanding, only the initiation and termination of LN channels are registered on the blockchain. This means micropayments within LN channels cannot be traced on the blockchain.
1031  Economy / Economics / Re: Which do you prefer on: April 29, 2023, 11:59:13 PM
I prefer a performance-based income. Of course, there is always the possibility of failure. But hey, that's just part of the game. You win some, you lose some, but at least you are taking control of your own life and not relying on some corporation to dictate your worth.

Plus, think of all the perks that come with being your own boss. No more pesky managers breathing down your neck, no more soul-sucking office politics, and best of all, you get to set your own hours. Want to work from the beach? Go for it. Want to take a nap in the middle of the day? Why not? As long as you are bringing in the big bucks, you can do whatever the heck you want.
1032  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: low-cost hardware wallet for less than 10 dollars on: April 29, 2023, 11:41:53 PM
I think I have seen something like this before, it was posted by dkbit98 about "LNbits DIY Wallet". I am not sure if it is the same DIY wallet or just a similar hardware with different firmware. Anyway, it looks pretty cool, but to be honest, I don't have much experience with electronics or DIY stuff like this. It's a bummer because I'm sure it would be fun to work on something like that.

I get it that dealing with a newbie with no forum history is a risk, but it is not fair to generalize. There are some trustworthy newbies out there who are just trying to get started. However, I agree that it is a good idea to seek an reputable escrow if you want to have a safe deal with someone here.

How can a Newbie be trustworthy unless he has done previous transactions and have good feedback? It's better to hire a escrow to safeguard the interest of both the parties involved.

A newbie is any person who has registered on this forum, but it does not necessarily mean that she or he has no reputation at all. They may have expertise in other areas or forums, but are just starting to learn about the particular topic in this forum. This should be approached on a case-by-case basis, that is why I said not to generalize.

The OP mentioned that there is no money involved, so there are no transactions.

How can you say that there was no money involved.
~

I was responding to the member who suggested that the OP should publish evidence of the transactions.

I will advise you to seek for an escrow if next time you want to have a deal with someone here. Do well to seek the expertise of a reputable member here so that you will be protected. As I see you are a new bie and the other too is a new bie. Here, there is actually every tendencies that most of these newbies account are scammers looking for unsuspecting participants to get away with. So in your on best interest, do well to do the needful and protect yourself.

Lastly, get evidence of your conversations and transactions to back you up.

Oh, well, I am sure the guy dying on the street is just dying to know what caused his depression and how to deal with it. Maybe we should hold a seance and ask him directly? I am sure the dead guy would really appreciate our efforts to diagnose and treat his mental health condition posthumously.  Roll Eyes
1036  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have some questions left about this mysterious passphrase on: April 28, 2023, 06:16:06 PM
By installing sparrow wallet, I understood better because it asks immediately if I want to create a passphrase. So I conclude that the passphrase must be created at the same time as the mnemonic phrase with the words BIP39. In the bitbox, it asks if you want to add a passphrase after creating the wallet, that's why everything was so confusing. Thank you for your help

Oh, I see now where the confusion comes from.

BitBox (and some other hardware wallets) add extra security to your bitcoins.

Here is how it works:
You generate one wallet using only a seed (mnemonic) phrase, and put a small amount of bitcoins on it.
Then, you add a security passphrase, and generate a new wallet with different addresses where you store the resto of your bitcoins.

If you ever lose your seed phrase and someone finds it, they will only be able to access the small amount of bitcoins in the first wallet. They will not know about the second wallet that requires a security passphrase. It is like carrying a little bit of money in your pocket and hiding most of it in your shoe.  Wink
That is why it is important to store the passphrase in a different place than the seed phrase.

2) How to use Master Public Key?
These are some of the explorers that support using Master Public Key.
~

Just a quick note to mention that sharing your MPK may reveal your entire wallet transaction history, which can compromise your privacy. It is always best to exercise caution when sharing any information related to your wallet online.

I recommend using the BIP32 calculator from bitaps.com, as this tool is usable even when you are not connected to the internet.

1038  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Generating reception address without opening wallet on: April 26, 2023, 09:20:52 PM
To do this, simply create a new Electrum wallet and select the "Import" option. Paste the master public key into the "Public Key" field, and with this setup, Electrum will generate addresses for your watch-only wallet without requiring your private keys.
To create a watch-only wallet using your master public key, you should select "Standard wallet" and then "Use a master key".
There is no "Import" option at all. There's "Import bitcoin addresses or private keys" option which can't be used for importing a master key.

Yes, you are right. The last time I did this was a long time ago, so I forgot the exact procedure. I see Aikidoka has already provided a clear explanation with screenshots, so there's no need for me to repeat the steps.

@unknowncustomer, you can follow the steps shared by Aikidoka to create a watch-only wallet using your Master Public Key.
1039  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have some questions left about this mysterious passphrase on: April 26, 2023, 09:06:31 PM

For example, if you add a passphrase to an existing wallet, it will no longer be the same wallet, and the addresses in it will be different.

That's my problem: so you have to create the wallet and the passphrase at the same time? if we add a passphrase to an already existing wallet, then it is no longer the same. Sorry I'm a bit lost.

Why is that a problem for you? To be clear, are we really talking about the BIP39 passphrase here, and not the password you want to additionally secure your wallet with? It is important to distinguish between the two.

Adding a passphrase to your 24 words creates a whole new seed, which means all your accounts will have different addresses. The passphrase is like a bonus 25th word. It is an advanced feature, so only use it if you really know what you are doing. If you are not sure, just skip it.

My electrum wallet is encrypted…
Is there any mean to generate offline reception addresses ? Maybe through the MPK ?

Yes, you can generate receiving addresses in Electrum even when you're offline by using its "watch-only" feature. To do this, simply create a new Electrum wallet and select the "Import" option. Paste the master public key into the "Public Key" field, and with this setup, Electrum will generate addresses for your watch-only wallet without requiring your private keys.
