1021  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: illegal and humiliating video verification in Rollbit.com on: November 09, 2023, 04:16:53 PM
~snip~
I hope I chose the right section of the forum. While I am not accusing the site of stealing money, I am accusing the site of having an illegal and humiliating video verification process.

To me, this topic would be more suitable for the Reputation board, considering that there are no scam elements in your story, unless you think that some of the data you provided during verification will be used for malicious purposes, which is of course something that comes as a risk during every verification, especially the kind you described.

~snip~
I read one KYC where you need to stand beside the street sign on your location and I thought this was asking too much until I saw this topic I wonder if yours is a special case that you need to undergo this procedure.
Or if this is their standard procedure.

I remember that as one of the strangest stories when it comes to verification, but nothing can surprise me anymore. Where are the good old days when you could walk into a casino and play whatever you wanted without being asked to prove everything possible and impossible?

Street Selfie? Why all these crazy requirements in the name of KYC verification?
1022  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Swedish Bitcoiners targeted by armed criminals on: November 09, 2023, 11:39:52 AM
The old saying goes "what you sow, you will reap", and Sweden unfortunately sowed bad seeds for a very long time, and now imported criminals are slowly taking over the country. In addition, the easy availability of information on income and taxes paid, which is a consequence of the fight against corruption for a very long time in that country, makes the work of thieves even easier.

Those who live in that country should seriously consider increasing personal security, which means installing security cameras, alarms and hidden panic buttons, as well as acquiring firearms.

Homeybadger is beginning to stir…..
@MortensenBach
BTC  - Bullflag break on higher timeframes after 3 years of consolidation usually results in New All Time Highs. Is this time any different?💥🚀

We will probably find out whether it is different or not this time, because if I am not mistaken, the next date when the SEC will announce something regarding spot ETFs is October 21, 2023, and in the context of that, we may need to watch the current price increase. By all accounts, the average Joe has realized that something is happening and is starting to get FOMO, but I still think that the price increase is caused by the increasing investments of institutional investors who understand much better what opportunity is available to them at this moment.

On the other hand, some say that BlackRock has already paid for the approval Cheesy

1024  Other / Meta / Re: People commenting on the first page without having read the previous posts. on: November 09, 2023, 10:53:14 AM
This is the second time in a short time that I've seen someone comment on a thread on the first page without having read the previous comments. Does this happen a lot?

Unfortunately, this is something that is a daily occurrence on the forum, because for some, reading other people's posts is obviously a waste of time. It's not just a problem in spam megathreads of 10+ pages, but also in threads of only 1 or 2 pages where you can see older members asking questions that were answered just a few posts above.

There are several options that we can do when we notice such behavior :

1. Report such a post to the moderator as repetitive content/signature spam - and hope that after the deleted post the user will realize that he did something wrong.

2. Publicly warn the user to read what others have written before him in the hope that he will accept the suggestion and be more appropriate in his posts in the future.

3. Report such a user to his campaign manager (if he is in a sig. campaign), although it should be remembered that each manager determines the rules when it comes to megathreads and to which page the post can be paid.

4. Put the user on ignore and pretend that nothing is happening, which is the easiest option, but for me personally, it is also the worst because then nothing will change for sure.
1025  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Suggest me a secure and open-source hardware wallet. on: November 09, 2023, 10:37:10 AM
~snip~
Check out SeedSigner.  When you first set up SeedSigner, the device will guide you through the steps to create a SeedQR on paper, by hand.  SeedSigner doesn't save your seed in the device.  When you turn it off, your seed is erased.  This means, each time you use SeedSigner, you scan your SeedQR to load your seed on the device.  Loading a seed on SeedSigner is easier than entering a PIN to unlock a traditional hardware wallet.  Oh, and I should mention that SeedSigner has no PIN to lock the device since there's nothing on the device to lock.

Does this mean that anyone who comes into possession of the QR code can load the seed on any other device or only on SeedSigner? I admit that the idea that the device itself has nothing in it that could enable a potential thief to hack it sounds very good, but is there an option to protect the seed with a passphrase in case someone does find the backup?
1026  Economy / Economics / Re: Swiss Franc become a new Cryptocurrency ;D on: November 09, 2023, 10:05:33 AM
True, they are one of the riches countries, but I think if we talk about adoption, isn't total number of user better than total amount?

It is theoretically possible that in a country like Switzerland there are more people who use/own Bitcoin than in a country with perhaps ten times as many inhabitants. Even at least 5+ years ago in Switzerland, you could buy Bitcoin at a machine where train tickets are sold, or you could pay taxes in the same in some of their cities.

I want to say that in some countries financial literacy is much higher than in others, and this combined with favorable regulation creates a positive environment in which people are not afraid to invest in Bitcoin as in some other countries in Europe where the central banks practically call it a fraud.

When we talk about the total number of users, or perhaps it is better to say those who own Bitcoin, some studies say that this number is somewhere around 2% of the total population, while the most optimistic ones go up to 5%. In any case, this is definitely too little considering that Bitcoin has existed since 2009.
1027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Holding for long might not be the best option. on: November 09, 2023, 09:32:12 AM

So I sudjest sometimes if the market is going down beyond bearable measures, there is need to swap your BTC to USDT to keep your capital safe in other to buy back when it is going up to avoid loosing some huge amount of money.

Do you really think it is safe to sell BTC for these so-called stablecoins, if it is a known fact that most of the so-called stablecoins can be frozen/seized regardless of the wallet it is in? What you advise is only part of your problem, because if you don't want to have BTC anymore, sell it for fiat and turn it into cash as soon as possible.

So what's your sudjestion on this.

I advise that all those who have elementary problems with finance and mathematics first learn the basics, and only then get involved in serious matters. Every investment is a serious matter, not some child's game in which a small amount of money magically turns into a big pile, and all this while you sit in front of the computer and do almost nothing.

By the way, it is correct to say suggestion.
1028  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which wallet is safe for long term Bitcoin storage? on: November 08, 2023, 04:47:00 PM
Passport, of course, has a higher price, which for us in Europe is above $250, but there are more than enough resellers and the device can be bought for cash in some countries in our area.
Afaik, only one store in our coutry sells Passport, and its an online store (Protis). I am on the lookout for a new hardware wallet and at the moment Passport is my first choice but I would prefer if I can buy it in a physical store.

I looked at the official list of resellers and they are not listed there, while previously the official reseller was Links. Protis has a physical store in ZG, but as far as I can see, they don't have Passport in stock, but only order if someone wants to buy. Anyway, thanks for the info.
1029  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you cope with those around you not believing in you for choosing Bitcoin? on: November 08, 2023, 11:41:59 AM
Pretty much self explanatory.  How do you do it?
~snip~

By accepting that people have their own opinion and that it can be completely opposite to what I think about something or someone. People have always had their doubts when it comes to Bitcoin, they still have them today and they will have them in the future - why waste your precious time convincing them otherwise?

In addition, if your only motive is profit and you ignore the real reason why Bitcoin exists, you can often face negativity that can be completely justified considering where Bitcoin is headed. After all, it is not very smart to let people know that you invest in Bitcoin, because we are no longer in the time when Bitcoin was worth only a few hundred dollars and was on the margins of society.
1030  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which wallet is safe for long term Bitcoin storage? on: November 08, 2023, 11:19:27 AM
A properly made cold wallet or something like a Passport is still the level of storage that people should be directed to, especially those who want to securely store much larger values than a few hundred $ worth of altcoins.
Vast majority of people store altcoins beside bitcoin on their hardware wallets so many will avoid passport for that reason too, and another issue with it is that its not easily available as some other more mainstream wallets like Ledger and Trezor. Add on that a bit higher price (even though ~$200 shouldn't be too much to store thousands of dollars worth of bitcoin) and in the end not many people actually get it.

It's true, most people are looking for multicurrency wallets because there are few who only have Bitcoin, which means that hardware wallets that offer such options will continue to be more popular, and also more affordable for the average user. Passport, of course, has a higher price, which for us in Europe is above $250, but there are more than enough resellers and the device can be bought for cash in some countries in our area.

I hope that some of them will offer a discount for Black Friday, and considering the increase in the price of BTC, this could be the best opportunity to buy such a device.
1031  Economy / Economics / Re: Swiss Franc become a new Cryptocurrency ;D on: November 08, 2023, 11:05:34 AM
yep CBDC are mis understood. thats why its best people do their research.
~snip~

The average person does not want to research, but is informed in the mainstream media, which is of course owned (or influenced) by the same people who are trying to sell CBDC to people as some kind of cryptocurrency that should be superior to Bitcoin and the so-called stablecoins, which the authorities are actually afraid of the most (at least concerns the ECB).

The fact is that a well-packaged and well-presented story always has a great chance of being well received, and let's just remember how at one time Libra was advertised in the media as a "Bitcoin killer" even though one has absolutely nothing to do with the other.
1032  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 07, 2023, 03:24:55 PM
@philipma1957, good news for all those who want to return to their youth - and just when the "medicine" is on the market, all long-term bitcoiners will be able to afford it Wink

A new therapeutic developed from compounds found in pig’s blood can reverse the age of rats, researchers claim in a new study.
The anti-ageing therapeutic – dubbed E5 – was developed from the blood of a young pig and injected into ageing rats, according to a new study published recently in the journal GeroScience.
E5, which consists of complex nanoparticles and young plasma sourced from pigs, could reverse the biological clocks of the rats by nearly 70 per cent on average, said researchers, including those from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
If the results can be translated to humans, it could mean the reversion of an 80-year-old to the age of 26, scientists claimed.
1033  Economy / Economics / Re: 500 quadrillion EURO printed in @DashingAgent head on: November 07, 2023, 03:05:41 PM
I have no idea where you are getting 500 quadrillion from since if I'm not mistaken the total M1 and M2 Euromoney supplies together is about 25 trillion in the euro zone.
~snip~

The OP makes things up, and he used to do it very "successfully" in the Trading board until he found new areas of interest. In addition, everyone can check the facts that say that the euro as a currency has existed since 1999, with the fact that the first banknotes and coins appeared on the market only in 2022.

The currency was formed virtually in 1999; notes and coins began to circulate in 2002. It rapidly took over from the former national currencies and slowly expanded behind the rest of the EU.
1034  Economy / Economics / Re: Swiss Franc become a new Cryptocurrency ;D on: November 07, 2023, 02:45:06 PM
Not really give a big impact because Switzerland isn't EU and they're relatively a small country.

Switzerland may be a small country, but their GDP for 2022 was about $800 billion, which ranks them among the top 10 richest countries in Europe. Size is completely irrelevant in this context.

It will be a big move if one of EU or US launch their CBDC.

Most of the members of the European Union have a single currency called the Euro, and for years there have been plans by the ECB for a digital euro, in addition to which they mention restrictions up to a maximum of 300 digital euros per person. There's no big deal wherever it happens, because what's the difference when you pay with a bank card or use a CBDC app?

Central bank digital currencies are one of the most misunderstood things and have absolutely nothing to do with Bitcoin and will not bring about any kind of financial revolution. Sweden does not have a CBDC, but it is a country where 98% of all payments are made digitally.
1035  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which wallet is safe for long term Bitcoin storage? on: November 07, 2023, 11:50:05 AM
I could recommend Trezor to someone with a note to additionally protect their account with a passphrase considering the irreparable vulnerability that allows anyone who has physical access to the device to extract the seed very easily
Or even better, get that new Trezor Safe 3 that has secure element.

That is one of the options, but the secure element is not something to rely too much on - because Ledger HW also has it, and in the end it turns out that the most sensitive data can still be extracted and shared with third parties. A properly made cold wallet or something like a Passport is still the level of storage that people should be directed to, especially those who want to securely store much larger values than a few hundred $ worth of altcoins.
1036  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Fake Leger Live app (extension ). on: November 07, 2023, 11:39:18 AM
~snip~
I have always said that  the main threat to the bitcoin stash is   a stash's owner and if the latter is dumb neither open source hardware wallet nor Linux will help

And I have always said that people are the weakest link in that security chain, so even though I used to think that such behavior stems from the fact that before all the instructions that came in the package with the device were written in English, that changed years ago and more or less all major world languages became represented.

The conclusion is that people simply do not understand what they are doing at all - because such stupid moves as entering a seed anywhere except in another (verified) hardware wallet is more than enough proof that someone does not understand what they are doing. Anyone who has the stomach for such scams can without much trouble earn a very nice amount with minimal effort, and this is unfortunately something that will continue to happen.
1037  Other / Meta / Re: Request for a board of made-up stories on: November 07, 2023, 11:28:26 AM
Reward question - has anyone noticed where the members who serve the most stories like this are from?
I would say mostly from Nigeria, but that is not to say anything, we have a large Nigerian community on the forum with quite a few members who are great assets. The questionable stories come from lower ranked members, but I hope as they stay longer on the forum and rank up they will drop these stories and will find other legit ways to earn merits.

If I noticed it, you and many others did too, and if we know where such things come from, then we can ask that community (at least those older members) to influence beginners not to do such things. It's not just fictional stories, but also alt-farms created by members of that community and a very strange attitude towards the use of AI when creating posts.
1038  Other / Meta / Re: Request for a board of made-up stories on: November 06, 2023, 03:31:52 PM
Not serious response: I'd ask moderator to move such thread to off-topic, archival or trash can board.

I do it regularly, but what I noticed is that the mods usually delete the topic if there are only a few posts in it, but if the topic develops into several pages, then it is more likely that only the topic lock will follow. In addition, not all mods have the same standard when it comes to "low value topic".

I was worried for a minute that you're suggesting to create a special board for BADecker. This would devastate the P&S board.

Anyway, no one cares about Bitcoin Discussion, it's not like this forum has anything to do with made-up internet money. It's a great place to pour all signature garbage into because any sane person has given up on reading it a long time ago and mods have given up on spending two seconds trying to determine if a post is "low value".

That's your opinion, but I wouldn't agree with it. Mods are very responsive to reports from that board, the only problem is that most of the members engage in these pointless discussions because it is more important for them to write a post than to click on the "report to moderator" button. The latter has been pushed into the category of "wasted time" for too long that it has finally become a rule, at least judging by the number of monthly reports.

Reward question - has anyone noticed where the members who serve the most stories like this are from?
1039  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Fake Leger Live app. on: November 06, 2023, 02:43:43 PM
~snip~
UPD. Found an article that says "The app was being used to steal people's Bitcoin by asking users to enter in their 12-24 word recovery phrase into the app."

Just one more in a series of seed stealers that targets users who actually have no idea what a seed actually is, but that didn't stop them from buying HW and Bitcoin. Those who fell for such a cheap trick would have become victims sooner or later anyway.

Don't they check the software or app first before they make the app available on the Microsoft Store?
According to The app certification process on Microsoft they scan and check the apps for malware and viruses and do some testing to ensure the safety of the app before they make the app available on the Microsoft store.
~snip~

Maybe the reason is that this app does not contain any malware, but only transfers the entered data (seed) to the hacker's server. Do you really think that the one who checks (if there are people who do it at all) knows the difference between legitimate and fake Leger Live?

If such work were done by experts and not by bots and AI, then there would not be thousands of dangerous apps in the Google Play Store or on Google Ads.
1040  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Using TV( GOTV, DSTV) monthly subscription money to invest in bitcoin on: November 06, 2023, 02:05:50 PM
~snip~
What do you all think about this idea?

How much can you save per year if you reduce or completely cancel the subscription? If it is a significant amount for you and you want to divert it to some investment (Bitcoin in particular), I don't see why not to try, especially if you yourself claim that the content you pay is repeated from month to month.

However, think about whether there is something else you can save on that is not necessary for your life - for example cigarettes, alcohol, fast food and the like. In the meantime, there are some free solutions when it comes to watching TV, so even though it's not about premium content, you don't have to pay anything to watch it - whether it's a smartTV or a smartphone -> https://www.plex.tv
