It could dump all the way back to sub $30k..

By the end of the day.

This is fucking outrageous, we’re losing so much money.

i have retained a voice trainer to hone my "scream like a little girl" thing for maximum effect. just in case.

Graduating from titanium plates to raw existential angst for my testicle-smashing routines is really paying off, yo.

might soon need plates made from unobtainioun or something from Planet X. or maybe antimatter.

Be careful with those screen shots Phil. I just had my SIM card ported and my email/coinbase account passwords reset. Coinbase's default 2FA authentication goes to your phone and your email is security is also garbage if its 2FA is also your phone. I guess they upgraded my coinbase (which was basically unused) to coinbase pro and I guess that gave them instant access to all crypto on the account.  Drained my bank account to coinbase and transferred it out to their address in less than 30 minutes...

coinbase can use yubikeys now. and trezors can be configured as yubikeys as backup.

highly recommended. nothing moves off exchange without the yubikey.

Elon must be on a rampage because i only see on Twitter: tweet not available.

Mr Elon Musk is acting as a nail in the coffin for bitcoin at the moment.  Angry

the price is $45k USD. over twice the 2017 ATH.

and peeps here are annoyed, moaning and pissed?? wtf where has the OG gone. we should be toasting the 30% off sale not complaining about the words from a twitter account.

whats with all the new whiners anyway. folks just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. the moments of sheer terror are relative anyway; its just part of the ride. learn to enjoy them.

1127  Other / Meta / Re: {LIST}of the Merit Sources asking for more smerit. New Round. on: May 13, 2021, 09:24:03 PM
same here. 90+ percent of mine are 1 merit sends as i try to spread it out as much as possible. i think the most ive given out was 3 or 4 (rare, those) except for a couple fat finger sends.

Only send 1 isn't bad but a bit of BS imo.... sorry...

I like to send more as 1 so a rewarded person can resent some as well, its hard to write only merit'able' posts and so difficult to earn merits which can be resent by someone who isn't a source, good members still need some kind of motivation to rank up etc...

Beside that, as sources we can detect a lot of good members which are more as capable of sending merits for good posts as well... so I don't mind giving 5-10 to some good senior, hero etc members so they can resent and rank up both... Also a lot of good Legendary posters whom fancy some merits as well but have difficulties with earning, so for members we know are good members, its not wrong for meriting them on there posts a bit more from time to time imho

one merit per post may seem stingy but often times i wind up meriting the same person several posts in row in a thread, so it averages out to more per person i suppose..  as consistently good posters get more merits, its kinda follows, whether they get many merits in one post or one merit each for many posts..

i do try to give more to sub legendary all things being equal but legendaries also need merits so they can send them on too.
1128  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Free-Roll "Speculation" BTC-price guess !!! Summer price guess... on: May 13, 2021, 08:27:14 PM
60,000 USD

why? thats pretty much 3 times the old ath of 20k from 2017/2018. so why not triple it and make it an easy to remember $60k USD

nice round numbers are the only kind of TA i understand anyway. so heres my version.
1129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: May 13, 2021, 01:36:27 PM

looks pretty much exactly like my 6700xt nitro. 2.7 slots is about right. my aurora 1080ti is a triple slot and the 6700xt is not much smaller.
1130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: May 13, 2021, 12:24:38 PM
so my 6700xt arrives and i go to install it on my onda with all nvidia 10xx cards, 1st thingi found that my version of win10 on the onda (1702 or 1710, very old install that has not been allowed to update at all) is too old for modern amd drivers. tried to install and it gave an error that "this os is not supported." great, imaged the 1710 install to a couple places in case something went south and told it to update but all seemingly went well.

so its pulling 47 MHs at ~160 watts according to the amd driver (running phoenix on eth).

whats the best place to find tweaks for this to get power down a bit on this thing?

btw its a sapphire nitro 6700xt, damn thing is built like a beast. 2.5 slot almost as big as my aurora 1080ti 2.5 card. interestingly all the rgb bling is on the rather impressive backplate so it can be shown off better in standard cases i presume.

rig makes a great nightlight for the basement.

'Doubling yearly' sounds good. I'm OK with that. Smiley

Doubling every year (100% up) is not only good, it's excellent. It may seem a little bearish for 2021, but it's a great performance in the long run, and one I'm also perfectly OK with:
[...]

i cant believe im actually saying this, but simply doubling each years would seem so.. boring, almost disappointingly so. i mean either moon or impressively deep crater, pick one.

but honeybadger dgaf anyway.

Just noticed what you did, you dorks! I told you 9xx is fine, damn it. You'll pay for this!

pfffft. we are not afraid. in fact i shall taunt you now by meriting that post. take that!
1133  Other / Archival / Re: A secure device dedicated to using cryptocurrencies on: May 10, 2021, 08:06:12 AM
i use paid AV and have for years. one thing i do is go through and turn off any stuff related to "upload suspicions samples" and anything else that might inadvertently send sensitive data to the AV company.

just make sure to exclude from scanning any folders or drives that have blockchains on them.
Isn't their software closed source though? Excluding folders from scanning and turning off stuff related to file uploading sounds more like turning your phone into airplane mode and thinking it'd stop anyone from eavesdropping..

oh its the honor system on their end, im sure its fine /s

gotta trust at some point or just simply not run AV at all.
1134  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Separate OS with separate drivers, one for mining and one for gaming? on: May 10, 2021, 02:01:08 AM
It sounds like a safer route; I'll have two physical SSD and switch them whenever I need them. I do more research on how to verify the binaries and files.

there are 2.5 and 3.5 inch drive cages that can hot swap drives that mount in your case if it has an external bay. you just pull the one you dont want out and throw the other in. power off in between of course.

cant get much more isolated that that.

The use of anti-virus applications is at your own risk, it only half protection, but for me I do not recommend using it. Firstly because of personal experience, secondly because there were many programs in the past years ago that used to give wrong results and delete applications automatically, and as a result I did not recommend using them and preferred to take safety measures myself. But everyone benefits from his experience. I have not tried modern applications, but I have heard about them from my friends. Perhaps I have a complex from them.

The risk is if you use software that is free and has a very low level of protection, and also collects your data and sells it to third parties. For anyone who uses Windows OS, I would recommend some kind of protection (I mean pay protection), and for me personally Malwarebytes Premuim + Norton do a great job - I haven't had a virus or malware on my computer for more than 5 years.

I know that W10 users have Windows Defender + firewall turned on by default, maybe for some it's enough protection - I personally think that every user can get much better protection for relatively little money - and when it comes to cryptocurrencies, we are all even more exposed to online threats - many realized this after it was too late.

Lhr cards are coming.

So all of you that have good 3000 series cards keep them as they may go up in value.

we may have 2 tier cards.

on this note I have multiple concerns.

[...]

yeah this could turn into a real shit show for miners. as any RMAs could get a nerfed card back. as well as luck of the draw on any new purchases.

personally if they sold the (clearly marked) nurfed cards at anywhere near retail i would be fine with that as i do play games and not having ready access to 3080/90s for my game rig is annoying. sure id mine with it if profitable (why not) but right now im more looking for a gaming card rather than a mining card. i could live with a nerfed 3080 as long as gaming performance is not affected. and the price was reasonable, not scalped to the moon.

so sell clearly marked nerfed cards at close to retail price to gamers, they will eat them up. then sell full on non nerfed cards to miners at whatever the market will bear. that would work for me.

of course these cards are (so far) only nerfed on eth, they mine other algos full tilt. wonder whats gonna happen on that.

All you need to stop a drone is a net.

for the 1st wave maybe. they can be expendable to the point of just sheer overwhelming numbers. so what if 90% of the drones are taken out as long as they take out what took them out. next ones get further, either making it or by thoughtfully trying to  blow up near anything that seems to have slowed them down, paving the way for the drones behind it. drone specialized for cutting nets (or blowing up next to such nets) would seem to be fairly trivial but im not an engineer.

swarm behavior is something else.

Use more nets, make them out of metal, or ceramic. There's always a countermeasure.

lol its like Spy vs Spy from MAD magazine.

how fast you you make and deploy new nets as my drones adapt and destroy or overwhelm them? and one can make a LOT of drones very fast and truck em around. some may be smaller that your net mesh size even. no one cares if they even survive (theyre not meant to survive: job is go there and find something interesting to blow up next to. the sole purpose is to wear down defenses so the next ones go further.

bleh. depressing train of thought anyway.

edit: thanks for your service to your country btw

This isn't meant to be deliberately offensive, and apologies to any veterans if it comes across that way, but I can never really understand the "thanks for your service" rhetoric, most commonly encountered in the US. Firstly, members of the armed forces there are receiving a salary, so is it really "service"? Secondly, the US's recent military endeavours have largely been in the service of, and to the benefit of, oil corporations and their shareholders, rather than to their country. I thought we'd gone beyond the naïvety of thinking that governments wage wars for the benefit of their people.

im from a military family. theres a lot more to it than salary.

I am coming to the conclusion that in the future it may be best to be able to defend your home/property yourself. I could either buy vast acreage and build a fortress, or buy an island that is easier to protect as the only people coming will be coming by boat...which can be defended against.

you know there are these things called "aircraft" that make a lot of traditional defenses useless.

You know there are these things called anti aircraft guns that shoot down aircrafts, says a former AA gunner.

drones are small, cheap and hard to see. program piles of them and set em loose.

point being there are always guys with bigger/better guns. always.

in my youth i read some dystopian Robert Heinlein stuff that seemed just crazy with their political premises and such. now im practicality living it.

edit: thanks for your service to your country btw
