1221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain has D3 and L3 in stock. on: September 15, 2017, 04:12:49 PM
They're probably offloading their ASICS now that China's bitcoin community is having problems with the government. Imagine all the hashing power they were keeping to themselves. It may be good this happened.

Anyway, they will be selling more of those ASICs very soon, just keep checking their website for new stock. Congrats to all those who were able to buy.
1222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / CPU mining from USB no install on: September 15, 2017, 02:35:52 AM
Was just curious if there are still "low profile" CPU miners that can be used from a USB without the need to install/admin access.
My target OS is windows 7/8/10.

I tried some google search but the best I found (from this forum too) already stopped development last 2013:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=333507.0
Probably with good reason?

Anyway, you guys might know some, please feel free to share.
1223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: I have $9,000 and need advice building 2 RIG on: September 15, 2017, 02:13:45 AM
How can I expect like 30% return in 3 weeks? Any news I missed?

Check the bitcoin price. Everything is down because of the China and JPMorganshit FUD.
But the price will eventually rebound for sure. Now is a good time because of the dip. Buy low sell high.

This is not the best time to buy a rig man

This is the most understated comment of this entire thread.

You better wait for the next days/weeks to see how all this Bitcoin China drama plays out before wasting money on a mining rig. Coin prices are continuing to head downwards and with $9,000 in your pocket you will be better off buying coins directly than investing in mining hardware at this point in time. Bitcoin and any GPU mine-able alt coin will correct to at least 50% off recent highs and you will have a much better chance profiting by buying directly than mining. Hardware prices are still around 150% of original MSRP making mining ROI even less likely, but if this downtrend last for more than a couple of weeks I think you will see those prices begin to fall as well.

No matter what you decide, my advice would be to wait for a few more days before buying anything (coins or hardware) to see what is in store for us in the near future.

Correct. This exactly. Not a good time to buy. Rather just invest in currency itself.
The $3000 range BTC is currently trading is actually a pretty good price point to get into.
1224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in College??? on: September 15, 2017, 01:55:53 AM
Bitcoin as a course or any related currency on web.
In my country we have multiple courses in computer especially programing and web developments. My course is also information technology, but i've never heard or learn about online currency as bitcoin. In present, and future studies is there any chances for inserting about it in education. In your country is it available?
It would be better for any country to adopt bitcoin in educating new generations. Instead of playing games and wasting money in surfing xxx sites.

You waste money surfing xxx sites? Why the hell? You can do that for free..

Anyway, i'm currently taking a graduate course on computer science and although there is no specific topic on bitcoin or blockchain, lots of my professors already allude to bitcoin and decentralized technology in their lectures. I wish I knew about bitcoin when I was in college. Its actually a great source of income and potential future investment.
1225  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Today, Bitcoin dump ? on: September 15, 2017, 12:46:57 AM
Yeah I might take a break from this forum too. Seeing all the FUD and panic is really stressful, especially that the FUD is coming from irrational individuals.

I'll definitely hodling and will buy more BTC if it goes below $3000.

But for now, it may be time to watch a movie and just enjoy the weekend. Just relax guys, we will moon again.
1226  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Arbitrage on: September 14, 2017, 03:51:48 AM
Hello,

Bouncing on Joseph's answer I have a few interrogations:

When you say the price might move between the moment we buy on one exchange and sell on the other you mean between the time we click on the button ?

I am not sure I get it right. If I buy a btc at 4000usd, even if the transaction takes a few hours to get verified and the btc to appear in my wallet, I will still have paid 4kusd for a bitcoin right ?

And if I short (of the exchange allows it) a btc on the other exchange for 4200usd, all i need is to transfer the btc from one wallet to the other and that should do it right ?

(All fees set aside)

Where do I get it wrong ?

When buying BTC with fiat, you get the amount in BTC right away. The only thing that takes time is sending BTC from one exchange wallet to another (for example from poloniex to bittrex, which are 2 well known bitcoin exchange websites).

The problem is that even though for example you send BTC valued at $4000 from exchange site #1 hoping to sell it at exchange site #2 at 4200, by the time it reaches exchange site #2, the value at exchange site #2 may already have corrected its price down to $4000 as well. When this happens, you only loose money on the transaction fee spent for sending between the exchanges.

It is also very unlikely that you will find a $200 difference between exchange, especially for bitcoin. You may be better of trading altcoins. But even that is more volatile.
1227  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Is that possible to earn bitcoin with Youtube Channel? on: September 14, 2017, 02:58:32 AM
Why would you want to earn bitcoin directly? You can always get $USD and buy bitcoin with it. That way, you don't constantly need to worry about the volatile bitcoin price and check if you are being paid enough or not.

If you get a good youtube channel going anyway you won't need to worry about being paid in BTC or cash because you'll be earning a lot. We all know those famous youtubers are now major multi-millionaires.
1228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BURGER KING NOW HAS ITS OWN CRYPTOCURRENCY on: September 14, 2017, 02:35:19 AM
This news is actually true, and outdated. There was a lot of commotion about this last month (August 2017) and its actually funny to read things like:

“Now Whopper is not only burger that people in 90 different countries love — it’s an investment tool as well. According to the forecasts, cryptocurrency will increase exponentially in value. Eating Whoppers now is a strategy for financial prosperity tomorrow.”

I wonder if we will see this WhopperCoin on bittrex or poloniex soon lol.
1229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you know what will happen tomorow ? on: September 14, 2017, 02:24:41 AM
Nice website. But i'm curious as to what effect these ICOs will have on Ethereum.

As an Ethereum investor i'm actually hoping that many people buy ETH in order to purchase these ICOs. This, hopefully, will work to drive the price of ETH up.
Anyway, i'm hoping the ENJIN ICO wins tomorrow. They've got a pretty solid team that has always delivered quality products.
1230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why to dive into ICO? on: September 13, 2017, 01:55:27 PM
Hello, Crypto-People!

When you get involved with an ICO, you want
- to get a status of the important investor, or
- to get discount from the project, or
- to try out your luck? Smiley

Primarily to get a discount from the project.

Although I always dream of trying out my luck, unfortunately it is something I cannot afford right now. I now only pick coins that are more or less stable and have less risk involved. The coin needs to have a real world use, a real solid team, and good marketing.

I wouldn't know why people why buy an ICO just for the status of an "important investor." Lol. Seems very childish to me.
1231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Switching from ETH to sell hashing power for BTC during the dip? on: September 13, 2017, 01:52:41 PM
Well, even I thought so about it. I don't know the exact amount you'll be receiving in BTC for selling your hash power and if that's greater than or equivalent to ETH mining but it seems a bit lucrative for now and this dips temp, so what-ever you choose, you're good to go. Moreover, Selling your rigs hash for a contract will be more profitable than nicehash itself.

Yeah, selling rig hash for a contract definitely sounds more profitable. Have you done this before?
Im curious actually, is there an online service that can automate selling hash between you and a client?
1232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining cables, router suggestions? on: September 13, 2017, 01:26:56 PM
I'm setting up a small farm with L3+ and D3 machines(I have ordered 7 now and I'm going to order 12-13 more machines soon), and I can't find the answers to these questions:

1, Which cat6 cables are people using to avoid interference and crosstalk between devices? So many different cables: stp, utp, ftp.. It is driving me nuts Smiley

2. Which router is good enough?  Ubiquiti Networks EdgeRouter X SFP or TP-Link TL-ER604W, the tp-link does have WiFi which I will turn of if possible.

3. Are longer power cables (c13) a bad thing, increased heat/fire possibility?  (3 meters vs 5 meters)

4. As switches I am going to order two 24 ports switches:  Tp-link tl-sf1024 or tl-sf1024d. Any problems with these?

1. In my opinion, CAT 5 cables are good enough. I honestly don't understand much about the technical details behind CAT 5 vs 6 but the 5 works just fine for my rigs.

3. They say that the longer the cables the slower it is, etc etc. But honestly speaking from experience (i have a 30 METER cat 5 cable for two (2) of my rigs), they work just fine. I just touched the cable and they are not hot at all. Been running stable and problem free for a few months now.
1233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Switching from ETH to sell hashing power for BTC during the dip? on: September 13, 2017, 01:17:17 PM
I've been dual mining ETH nonstop with my rig for the past few months and have always used nanopool. But now given that the recent BTC dip is pretty deep, i've switched over to selling my hashing power to nicehash for BTC.

The rationale is that ill be getting a larger amount of BTC now, which has more chances of increasing in value once BTC price bounces back. I lost my computations as I only wrote in on paper over lunch today but it seems more profitable than directly mining ETH right now, of course assuming prices bounce back up. Any thoughts on this strategy?
1234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the best Coins this year ? on: September 13, 2017, 01:02:10 PM
Here is an updated list of my current altcoin portfolio which I project to at least double in btc value by the end of CY 2017.

Listed from the topmost having the most potential:
  • Ethereum - of course, the mother of all altcoins and icos
  • OmiseGo - very solid project, backed by vitalik
  • NEO - very solid chinese team that is revolutionizing chinese crypto
  • Siacoin - the future of online decentralized storage
  • Tenx - solid project more popular in the western world
  • Enjin - still in ICO phase but i've been a customer of their app before and all I can say is that damn, they work hard and deliver
1235  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bought my first BTC @ $4600, slightly worried on: September 13, 2017, 12:48:01 PM
...from what I've gathered I should stick with holding for 5-10 years instead of panicking. But honestly, it's tough to ride the lows.

Any words of encouragement? Grin I guess I'm not the only one who've had a nervous start in the world of cryptocurrencies. Anyone else feeling like they "need" to acquire 1 BTC before the train leaves the station for good?

It seems you already know how to encourage yourself and thats good. Let me just support you by saying you're right because you should just hold for 5-10 years and value will surely come back and skyrocket.

I have that same "need" for bitcoin feeling and I deal with it almost everyday. It seems you've done your research well so what I say to you is CONGRATULATIONS. You've made a good investment and as with all investment, all you need to do now is wait.
1236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1060 vs 1070 mining rig on: September 13, 2017, 05:48:29 AM
http://www.parallelminer.com/product-category/power-supply-kit/
You still need a regular PSU to power the motherboard, CPU etc though.

Not true. Some server PSUs already come with the 24-pin atx power cable and 6-pin cpu power. Actually, most server PSUs sold for mining already include this, you just need to find the right one that matches your power consumption. But definitely go and aim for server PSUs if youre in this for the long run. Server PSUs are cheaper in terms of SRP and have better power efficiency (most are rated 80+ platinum).
1237  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain has released two GPU miner models: G1 and G2 on: September 13, 2017, 12:56:01 AM
No way. We're back to earning $1/card/day and your talking about over 1 year ROI on this ASSUMING mining doesn't get any less profitable but looking at network growth over the last 2 months you'll never get your ROI on these.

Yeah it's safe to say you can forget about these. Its much cheaper and way more profitable to build your own rig in the long run. A big plus to building your own rig is the resale value of the GPUs. If and when mining eventually becomes unprofitable you would be stuck with this big behemoth of a machine that can't do anything.
1238  Economy / Services / Re: How to make your own exchange within an hour on: September 13, 2017, 12:32:17 AM
Thanks for the video Oleg, it is extremely useful. Im saving this post for future reference.

I'd just also like to chime in and vouch for Nexchange, not just because i'm part of their signature campaign, but because i truly am impressed with the transparency and openness of the project. As a developer myself, I look at Nexchange and already see how much time, effort, and money they have put into this. I wish nothing but success for Nexchange. Solid project with real world use especially once more coins are added for exchanging.

1239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Price Goes down after a tweet by Charlie Lee on: September 12, 2017, 11:58:43 PM
I think he is right by doing that. No matter what he does, people shit on him.

If he had kept the news, people would blame him that he was not sharing it. When he decides to share it, this happens.

Huh? Nobody would even know or give a damn if he didn't share that useless rumor. Shit happened because he shared it.

As an influential person in the crypto world he should be more responsible for his social media posts. This move of Charlie Lee shows pretty much his poor character and shows how he is not fit to be a leader. Im dumping all my LTC. LTC should be banned all around the globe.
1240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Questions about grounding properly on: September 12, 2017, 03:39:35 PM
Riser + GPU from same PSU, CPU Power + ATX power from same PSU etc.
you do NOT need to power risers and video cards off of the same power supply. You just dont.

Im confused. Can we get a final consensus on what really is necessary? Ive actually seen some people say that you should power your riser and mobo from the same PSU and then forget about which PSU runs the GPUs. Of course this would all be simple and easy if you just got a power-efficient server PSU in the first place.
