1681  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Coin mixing vs coin joining vs Monero converting on: December 10, 2022, 05:17:40 PM
Does it matter if they're public ips or using vpn?

Let's say you bought Bitcoin with KYC and withdrew. And let's say you use Electrum with public node.
Let's say that you mix the coins and receive bitcoin to address2. You open Electrum again.
The second Electrum server operator (if he wants to check the data) will know that address1 and address2 are from same wallet. If he sells this info to a chain analysis company that works together with the KYC exchange, they will know that's still you and your money, so your mixing was pointless.
And this happens no matter you've used clear net, VPN or Tor.

The only proper way to handle this is not not use public SPV servers nor blockchain explorers, instead install your own on top of your own bitcoin core.

1684  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-10-07] Visa partners with FTX on: December 10, 2022, 02:09:32 PM
Fintech company ZELF launches anonymous Visa debit card with crypto recharge

It looks like they are already in trouble. Also this is off-topic here and the actual discussion goes on in [BIG LIST] Crypto Debit Cards, I recommend to continue there if anything needs to be added.

In any way.... this thread can be closed.... this news is old and outdated now.  Wink

This is a good point. I'll lock it now.

VISA is no longer partner of FTX. End of story.
1685  Other / Archival / Re: [BIG LIST] Crypto Debit Cards on: December 10, 2022, 01:59:36 PM
They added an option on the "8th of December" to also deposit Bitcoin, but in connection to what dkbit98 mentioned yesterday, they just "released a statement couple of hours ago" claiming that their banking partner suspended their program [this must be a new record Tongue].
[~snip~]
I couldn't find the .gg domain that you were referring to, but their website [with .co extension] is no longer accessible.

Wow, indeed a new negative record.
I guess that my wishful thinking that anonymous crypto cards could ever become a thing (and not a scam)... remains... wishful thinking...
Oh well... too bad...
1686  Economy / Speculation / Re: The most stupid dip in Bitcoin's history - and why we can be happy now on: December 09, 2022, 07:59:44 PM
During times like this where there isn't money to be made trading, and mining is a losing venture, it displays how important it is to be diversified not just in your holdings, but also your revenue.

Even more, this kind of times show why one should not invest money he doesn't afford to lose or to "leave and forget".
People needing liquidity now and forced to sell their bitcoins will most probably sell at a loss.
1687  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you make KYCed Bitcoin not traceable to you? on: December 09, 2022, 07:18:40 PM
How many types of mixing methods are there?

* I know of the mixing ChipMixer is doing (worth mentioning that I wear their paid advertising); if you want to use their services make sure you use the Tor link you'll see in their Announcement or on my signature and also make sure you read the FAQ
* I know of CoinJoin; some wallets do it, some mixers claim to do it, but it's not clear whether they use or not actual CoinJoin; some claim that CoinJoin doesn't look that much like mixed coins (hence some services may think they're not mixed), but some also claim the coins are also not shuffled that good and tracking can happen (the link is not 100% broken in this case)
* not actual mixing, but I'll tell about Monero too (privacy altcoin) since some bring it into this kind of discussions: if you go this path keep in mind that if the services you use to convert betwee Monero and Bitcoin may track you and make your effort worthless
1688  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Looking for random number generator based on blockchain on: December 09, 2022, 07:01:58 PM
If you're interested in further reading then head over to random.org which has information on true randomness based on background noise versus longstrings of numbers.

There are tools for generating sets of numbers, scrambling lists - even choosing truly random colour palates. (Plus there is an app for your phone for random generation on the run).

It may be me, but I never liked random.org -based contests/raffles; there was always a chance the organizer may not play fair.
And I think that OP's point was not to generate "black box" randomness he cannot prove (and get accused he didn't do a fair draw) and instead use blockchain for obtaining in a transparent manner a "random enough" number whenever it's needed.

So imho the previous answers are explaining good some easy options OP can use. (I find the answer given by o_e_l_e_o the most complete and with good example too for easy understanding.)
1689  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you make KYCed Bitcoin not traceable to you? on: December 09, 2022, 06:49:46 PM
Is washing Bitcoin still a thing? I'm hearing it's impossible to disconnect you from the coins, and that depending on how much resources is put into it, the coins can always be traced back to you. Is this true?

If you use a good mixer it will break the link between the input money and the output, unless you use a SPV wallet and the server your wallet connects is owned by a chain analysis company, or you use a blockchain explorer linked to chain analysis.

It worth mentioning though that there are a fair number of services that consider mixed coins somewhat "tainted" and may try to confiscate that money from you for this kind of reasons. Some people do care about this, some don't, some may be knowing/avoiding them, but it's better you know this part too.

Of course, there are also P2P means of acquiring bitcoins, which may not be so easy to link to your identity.
1690  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Difference between cloud mining and hosted mining? on: December 09, 2022, 06:38:19 PM
Now I discovered Bit3 for myself and only there I earn. This platform gave me financial independence, I recommend it.

How long have you been earning in this cloud mining? And how much, if not a secret, of course, have you invested in this cloud mining?

If you look to that account's history you'll see it's used for advertising (guerilla marketing) that platform.
And since he doesn't come with a ref link, I'd say he is either part of the team, either hired for marketing.

So my bet would be that his "financial independence" will come if/when they get to cash in (ie scam) some deposits from gullible people and if he won't also get scammed with false contract/false promises.

And since this post is a good TL;DR; I'll quote it for visibility:

Their site is 1 month old and the 'three' folks posting about it are no doubt the same person shilling their SCAM.
1691  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NFT ?? What do you think about it ? ? ? on: December 09, 2022, 06:29:09 PM
For example - The bored monkey for 300 thousand dollars and Pixel cat for 531 thousand dollars

People have tried to convince me that NFTs are more than just some ugly drawings. They didn't convince me fully, but made me no longer be too harsh on NFT per se.
Then you come discussing exactly about such NFTs. My opinion about those? There's an image expressing it very good:

PS. I have a feeling that this topic should be in the Altcoins section. Maybe you move it there...
1692  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: EU crypto taxation proposal will target firms all over the world on: December 09, 2022, 06:17:59 PM
The European Commission aims for the new rules to be enforced on Jan 1. 2026.

It won't be easy. This is only a proposal. This may change greatly in the future while all the possible (and impossible) aspects are negotiated between all the parts and parties.
Then this has become part of the national laws in all the member countries. Here it will change again, in some countries will become stronger and in others weaker.
And I will add that some European countries do better and others do (much) worse at collecting the taxes and the taxation related information.

So, depending on the country, this will become reality (or maybe it already is) and in the case of other countries it's more a "wishful thinking".

I don't say that taxation won't happen, the governments are always hungry for money. (I wish that we'll get someday to the point only active traders will get taxed, and that on the gains; but let's ignore the wishful thinking).
What I say is that really tight taxation won't happen too soon.
1693  Economy / Economics / Re: Have Satoshi dream failed? on: December 09, 2022, 06:04:37 PM
Satoshi Nakamoto created Bitcoin as the perfect P2P digital money but today people are forced to pay tax on their holdings. Haven't this make the whole anonymous and freedom dream of Nakamoto failed?

Not really related. Governments will always try to tax everything they can, as good as they can.
In some countries holding is taxed, in other countries only the capital gains (in fiat) are taxed.
People can hide their coins from the government, it's not that hard, but it can be seen as tax evasion and that's illegal.

Satoshi's dream was to give the right tools to avoid the banks if we want to. Taxation is, as you see, not necessarily related to this.
So Satoshi's dream didn't fail. Even more, the things are actually getting better in that direction, ie the number of entities accepting bitcoins for their goods and services is increasing.

1695  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Help]Bitcoin Wallet Security on Windows on: December 09, 2022, 04:24:08 PM
Does this tool will not factory reset my computer? I have no experience on bootable device but I will try to do this as my last resort before I reprogram. Thank you

It's something to create a bootable DVD from it. And if you boot from it you'll run an antivirus.
It's not meant to "factory reset" your system. But Windows10 has options for "factory reset" too (I don't know though how good they are).
I will add that if you have a properly licensed Win10 I think that even if you do a clean re-install (and you don't set a key), Microsoft will know and make your new Win10 licensed again. (At least I've done that not long ago and on my surprise this has happened).

I’m already considering purchasing hardware wallet this Christmas as gift to myself. This computer fiasco I experienced motivates me to invest on hardware wallet this time.

Good call.

OP, delete your browser. Since you get pop-ups in it. Use Firefox, today it is more secure when compared to other browsers, add extensions uBlock Origin. Try installing the CCleaner program. I don’t know if there are free versions of this program now, but it has the ability to view all processes that have access to startup. Delete everything that you do not know, and preferably everything in general. Check the task manager if there are processes in it that you did not start. Next, try installing an antivirus, but it should be paid for. Today, all free antivirus software detects viruses but does not completely remove them.
Don't skimp on your safety. And as a friendly tip, start learning Linux systems. You can see how they work by installing VirtualBox and Linux.

Linux is also a good advice, but the starting part of only removing the browser may not help much if his system is indeed in trouble (and if one hides the problem it doesn't mean the problem is gone). Plus, although I tried to keep Firefox as main browser, it turned out that some websites (and apps) just don't work properly on Firefox (some development houses decided that testing only on Chromium is fine/enough).

If OP decides to stay on windows then indeed, an antivirus that offers real time (and URL) protection is a must. And in any case, uBlock Origin must not be missing.
1696  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Casascius, Lealana and NastyFans coin give away competition... on: December 09, 2022, 04:15:00 PM

A lot of fuzzy text/info there...
I start to think that this may be a contest only for the customers of that shop ie people who actually buy stuff from one of those shops, especially as the currency for that portal is that Particl coin.
If I'm wrong, OP should clear this up.
1697  Other / Archival / Re: [BIG LIST] Crypto Debit Cards on: December 09, 2022, 03:20:16 PM
I've just read about an anonymous VISA card reloadable with crypto - USDT, USDC, ETH and some tokens: https://cointelegraph.com/news/fintech-company-zelf-launches-anonymous-visa-debit-card-with-crypto-recharge
Interestingly it's an USA company launching them (ZELF) and also interestingly (but in in a bad way) Bitcoin is not in the list of coins.

I don't know how will this go (anonymous, hmmm), if anyone will get to use this, I'd like to hear details.

1699  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should El Salvador Fork Bitcoin? on: December 09, 2022, 10:49:07 AM
El Salvador forked pre taproot bitcoin and adopted it as its native digital currency

Or would it be negative and limiting in some way?

Keep in mind that any fork of Bitcoin is not bitcoin, it's just a pathetic altcoin.

So the fork coin will not be Bitcoin, they'll have an altcoin for which the value would become very low.
Just look at BCH, BSV and all other forks of bitcoin.

Of course, luckily, they'll still have their pre-fork bitcoins too and if they don't waste that, they can have the choice to get back to their senses and use the proper bitcoin they still have.
