Hello

I have just installed NXT and is there somewhere to get a little free nxt to try out the client? ty

Some giveaways, here:
http://nxtra.org/faucet/

and here:
http://freenxt.org?ref=326

The first one isn't working for me and I did the second one but no nxt yet, it has been about 8 mins.

is this the account number i use? NXT-NCJQ-2DM5-3VBV-FUYQ3

That faucet will only send the fund once a week on sunday.

Support the NXT community by driving up the price through HODLing. We're almost #3.  Grin

wth is "HODling"?

I can't register alias because of invalid account ID, but i'm sure i typed that correctly. How do i register an alias?

it sounds like you are making the wrong sort of transaction. go to aliases tab and then near the top right you will see "register alias". click that button and try there. it shouldn't ask you for an account id.

I did it. I want to associate an alias with my account ID is it possible to do that? I'm on the latest version 1.1.4

Yep, are you using the numeric account number? It may not work with the reed solomon ID.
1724  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway Thread for Silver Bullion Warehouse Receipts (pls share this link) on: May 30, 2014, 01:02:26 AM
Anon,

I'm curious if you've seen http://www.nofiatcoin.com/ ?

yea I've seen it. its a very fancy website but i just don't get it. How do you issue one asset thats backed by so many different things with so many different values? how do you know how many tokens you need to redeem for a given coin? if they say than how do you know how do you know that they are giving you the right amount for the number of tokens you sent when everything is valued differently and the relative disparity in value between each thing is changing so often and so subjective to begin with.

Did you read the FAQ? http://www.nofiatcoin.com/faq.html

The consider certain coins bullion and use the value of gold an silver of their holdings to determine what they will redeem an XNF for. People trade XNF as well, so the value of it on the exchange isn't the same as the value nofiat will give you if you redeem for gold.

Also, they say you can request certain types of bullion, but there is no guarantee that is what you will get.
1725  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: May 29, 2014, 10:16:38 PM
To ignore someone because they have a differing opinion from your own shows some pretty low ethics.

Maybe what some of you guys don't understand is what you call an IPO is not an IPO.

Buying into an IPO gives you part ownership in a company, buying into a crypto IPO gives you coins, not ownership.

a crypto IPO is nothing more than a presale.

A presale of coins you intend to sell at a later date.

Mechanics-wise, this is the same as buying a bond or loaning.

I can't make that any simpler.
For anyone to actually read that and somehow fool themselves into not agreeing with that is pretty sad and shows they are not interested in listening to any differing opinions than their own.

I see where you are coming from, but it's not really a loan. It is a sale, a transfer of asset with a pre-order system. When you go to the mall to trade your USD for Euros you are just buying Euros for $.

Also, a loan implies an agreement that this will be paid back. Qora signed no such promissory note against the "IPO" funds. He basically provided a pre-order system trading one asset (BTC) for another asset (Qora).

Please can we stop the Ad hominem attacks? There really is no need for the name calling and insults. It really hurts the signal to noise ratio.
1726  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [NAUT] Nautiluscoin - First Coin w/Stabilization Fund - Digishield on: May 29, 2014, 09:58:25 PM
I would be able to write a payment gateway (web service or standalone app) that used an Exchange's API to sell the NAUT for USD. However, the exchange would need an API and a NAUT/USD market.

Also, it would need to be FAST. To avoid slippage the NAUT would need to confirm FAST and the trade would need to happen quickly.

It would also be up to the merchant to set up the exchange account, and request USD withdrawals from the exchange. This assumes they want to convert the USD instantly. If course, if the price of NAUT is stable, there would really be no hurry to do this.

In what language would you write this?

You could do the long workaround method if you wanted (kind of the only option right now)

Use an exchange that accepts USD/BTC but also exchanges BTC/NAUT.

In which case people who wish to buy NAUT for FIAT can basically say, paypal in, it then buys whatever BTC value that is, then buys whatever NAUT value that is

USD -> BTC -> NAUT

Though ultimately I think it would be nicer to not have to do that and pretty much allow this
USD -> NAUT

But you'd need a large pool of NAUT to do that in the first place, ultimately having a wallet in which your system houses a certain amount of NAUT, which when purchased for USD can transfer to a customer's wallet.

The wallets do have an RPC-JSON capability so it's a probably capability.

I have another project with somewhat different ideas but the wallet handling part is integral, may need help on it since I have other projects prioritized right now.

I would probably do it in C# or javascript. Two languages I know very well.

You really wouldn't need a wallet client, you need an address generator (or even use pre-genned address pool) and you would just need to watch the block chain for the address.

As far as having a cushion account, it would help, but isn't 100% necessary. However, the cushion would eliminate slippage. Also, blocks would HAVE to be 60 seconds or less. If the block chain stalls like it has before, the slippage would be large. Of course, if NAUT really was stable, as it is advertised, then slippage isn't as much of an issue.

The thing with the double exchange is trading fees. Sure, it is possible to go from NAUT -> BTC -> USD, but you've gone from .2% fee to .4% fee. Still probably much less than a credit card though. Wink

Anyway, this could be a stop gap, something a vendor could run locally on a server or PC with a private wallet. But, it could be the first step to a full blown payout service.
1727  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why does it take so long to confirm? on: May 29, 2014, 09:45:29 PM
i've waited about 90 minutes before for a single confirmation. it doesn't happen often, though. sometimes i get 2-3 confirmations within only a few minutes. but those times where a single confirmation takes over an hour -- very frustrating.

What I've seen happen is that an output spends unconfirmed inputs. So, even thought the transaction paid the correct fee, the underlying inputs didn't. So, those inputs are talking longer to confirm which slows down the outputs that spent them. I've seen this a few times spending from Coinbase. I think they need to clean up there implementation and spend older inputs. Perhaps they just aren't keeping enough BTC in their hot wallet which is causing this, but that is just supposition.

Ok, Thanks alot for the quick responses... I think I may have just mistyped.
Ill get back in a second.

Check your capslock key too. Many a password lockout was due to that pesky capslock. Wink

I wonder why anyone would even type the secret phrase. The secret phrase needs to be long to be safe as it is open to brute force attack.

The master password for password managers doesn't need to be that long, as the thief would need access to the vault file first (close to impossible), plus password managers use  key stretching to make brute much harder. Users can also enable two factor authentication on lastpass. That's extra security.

You can get away (and never get hacked)  even if you have weak master password for say lastpass, but nxt requires very strong/random password.

My lastpass master is 16 characters. Just the other day after two "try again's" I realized my caps lock was on. On most of my machines I have caps lock mapped to be just a regular shift key. But, yes, point taken, it is the only password I type.

Perhaps the wallets should automatically trim leading/trailing spaces from the password entry. Unless people really want to start or end their passwords with spaces.

Wow, we are going to get tons of Alias squating!

Since this is the wild west with no centralization people can start registering trademarks with impunity right? Things like eBay, eBay.com, Overstock, Overstock.com, Amazon, Amazon.com etc.

You are about 6 months too late for that.   Smiley

Right. Wink But, more will occur.

I'm just saying, people are going to want to sell these aliases to the companies that own the trademarks, and there is no recourse to the trademark holder. I'm not sure how that is going to reflect on NXT. Guess I wasn't clear in what I was trying to say.

I am curious, is this bounty going to be limited to a certain number of users or a certain number of coins dedicated to it's purpose?

But, isn't an alias tied to an account or url, or can you edit those things after you create the alias?

Yay!!!  Grin

I would like to know if there is anyone working on this?Huh??:

I know it is almost impossible but if we could do something for the Payexpo in london, we could jump high.

Thanks.

I've emailed Riccardo. But iNxt does not send SMS, and you can't transfer NXT from your NXT acc with it. It's not relevant for PayExpo.

Nevertheless, we need a quality iPhone + Android app. Design is here. Is anybody willing to do it?

Umm I think it is important, I know it is difficult, but if we could go to the EXPO with Wesleyh's and Android's corporate design, and TXT, it would be a WIN-WINĦĦĦĦĦĦ

I didn't mean to drown you with that last post!  Smiley

Design is (almost) here, and we got 14 days! But coders are under pressure. Is anyone up for an Android quickie?

Apple will not allow Crypto currency wallets. (they want to create their own payment system). So, for iOS it will have to be a web app type wallet. Or you'd have to go Cydia. However, if you want NXT to be mainstream that's not gonna help.

You can actually get this today in wallet.mynxt.info. It's not an app, it's an HTML5 Web App, but it runs perfectly on iPhones/Android and you can put a link to your home screen and access it any time.

I'm not sure how this site works. Why do I need a login? Should I just be able to enter my NXT password and view and use my wallet? Since NXT has a brain wallet, this seems 100% possible. Basically a javascript implemented wallet.
1735  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHARE]ShareCoin - Pure POS - The only coin backed up by a real bussiness on: May 29, 2014, 05:12:33 PM
Sharecoin volume is just 0.03268483 BTC. Too low.
There are 10 other coins ahead sharecoin in volume... Sad

Too low, for what?
1736  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: May 29, 2014, 04:50:27 PM

Haha, this is a glowing endorsement.  Roll Eyes

Yeah, can't quite say I read it as promoting NXT...

It's a weird thing he writes, like he read that from a colleague during a private chat.  Regardless, what he writes is totally false and kind of makes him look like an idiot.

He later tweeted that he quoted someone else that said that. Not sure why he would just tweet that quote, even they weren't his words.

Sorry I was deleting them manually from the big msg and got them mixed up  Shocked

and looks like I may have mistakenly thought pilotofbtc said it, sorry about that (thats an apology to you as well pilotofbtc)

PilotofBTC do you fly planes in real life?

Yes, I am a private pilot. But, due to the high cost of the hobby, I haven't been flying in many years.

Should get ya alittle ultralight or something. Smiley

Once the kids are out of school so no more college tuition and I have a bit more disposable income, I do want to get back into the air. I would actually like to try gliding and helos as well.

Keep voting people:

https://sharexcoin.com/votings

We are solidly in first. Hopefully no one buys another coin's votes to jump ahead of us like yesterday!

For me site stil stil down.
Me too.
@Zip,check it out as soon as possible.
The site was down for maintance for 30 minutes. Nothing wrong. We may add Nxt tomorrow after carefully testing the client.
What about adding Dark?
+1  ,I always vote for dark ,would you plz give dark a green channel like nxt?

NXT didn't get a "green" channel. It is on the Coin voting list and got to the top via votes and BTC spends.
