1781  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Sinosigma/Shenzou legit? on: February 02, 2014, 10:21:39 AM
Hey all,

Just wanted to follow-up with a negative experience.

I placed an order on January 5 under the agreement (via private message) that they would ship an antminer within 10-15 days. They didn't. On Jan 20, watching antminer prices drop to 1.9 BTC here on the forums, i offered them the opportunity to still ship it to me expedited. They told me it would likely ship out Feb 9. I canceled my order with the reason "seller did not ship on time" and they refused to honor the cancellation, repeatedly reopening the order, until I changed my reason to "I ordered the wrong product". As of now I've changed the reason to that and they have still not processed the cancellation. If they don't by end of tomorrow (they probably will — their communication is good, just not their commitment to shipping) I'll just do a chargeback with VISA.

I'm sure lots of others had good experiences, but since I opened this thread I thought it's worth posting the outcome. Thanks.

Thanks for your report. Smiley
I guess you should make a feedback on Aliexpress as well.
1782  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Hardware with reasonable ROI? on: February 02, 2014, 10:13:12 AM
Now that scrypt/sha256 combo asic are jumping in the scene diff is rising again.
Alpha-t is shipping by the middle of July and I don't see reason why not to believe them.
What are the chances that another "BFL fail" will happen again.

With scrypt ASIC starting to come out, are we going to have a exponenitally increasing difficulty just as bitcoin?
1783  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SCRYPT ASIC miner ready. BTC+LTC ASIC , combo.free samples review report here. on: February 02, 2014, 10:10:43 AM
so does your website have them instock now?
No, but I hope they will have more... or found them too late Sad

It's CNY so don't expect anything before 08 Feb

Shocked
Isn't the chinese new year on 31 Jan? They have such a long holiday?
1784  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Do you think BlackArrow is going to miss Feb-24 timeframe it had given ? on: February 02, 2014, 09:57:14 AM
Sorry to burst everyone's bubble but as a longtime GPU miner and Avalon Preorder owner, I've sworn off this preorder scam and am much happier as a result.  Think about it this way:

Avalon was 6months late.  Not a huge issue as they released ASICS first, but I still lost 40BTC on my Batch 3 preorder.  BFL 13months.

KnC got the "closest" to on time and was a bit over 1 month - but still "average joe" got their unit closer to 2months late as only the rare 1st day order made it out only a month late.

Hashfast is how late?  Cointerra is how late?  Btmine is how late?

So those of you thinking BA was going to hit FEB 24th... well it sucks but to estimate with their new date might even be too optimistic.  You need to start to plan for the worst case.  Even if they *start* shipping sometime in May, how far back are you in the order queue?

Very much agree with you.
Pre-order deals do look a lot cheaper, but if you take consideration of difficulty adjustment and possibility of late delivery, you will find the deals full of risk.  Wink

1786  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: solo mining 2 TH/s - is this a bad idea? on: February 02, 2014, 08:09:58 AM
If you want to gamble it's a good idea. If you don't want to gamble it's a bad idea.

My KNCminer has found two blocks so far, if I had solo mined I would have been much richer than I am now. But it could have also found no blocks at all, it's impossible to predict.

Exactly the reason why we are doing pool mining - reduce variance (risk). Tongue

1787  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Offering Free SHA256d Coin Mining (Just Post Pool Address and Worker Details) on: February 02, 2014, 08:04:14 AM
With 8 pages (up till now) of people asking for it, I guess OP will allocate the hashrate to everyone, and thus can only mine for a while for each one. Tongue

1789  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Scrypt.CC | Scrypt Cloud Mining on: February 02, 2014, 07:48:32 AM
what is the GHS/BTC rate?

Did you check the site. The hashrate price is shown in the Income Calculator section.
BTW, scrypt hashing is about 1000x slower than sha256, and thus KHs is used instead.
1790  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Not] Good price at CEX.io on: February 02, 2014, 07:44:39 AM
I think the real value will come when you can switch it to mine other coin pools.

You understand that the hashrate on cex.io (from Bitfury chips) cannot be used for scrypt-based mining, right?
If so, what do you mean by "real value will come" lol, especially when there is currently 0% mining fee, and merged mining is already done on cex.io ?
Absolutely but you can point it at other sha coins. That can't be merge mined... So for people that don't have massive amounts of ASICS it would be a value to them. Bitcoin isn't always the most profitable sha coin to mine.....

If then, it will cause a huge problem to those sha256 altcoins.

With the influx of tons of hashrate to a coin (say, TRC), the diffculty could go up terribly.
After the difficulty readjustment, all those hashrate will be directed to mine another coin, while the block finding will be extremely slow for TRC (very high difficulty, very low hashrate). Transaction will take a very long time to be confirmed, and the coin price will crash terribly or the coin could even die if the situation is real bad.

After all, the mining revenue from mining other sha256 coins will be very low due to the price crash.
1791  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Brag: mined enough to pay my rent this month on: February 02, 2014, 07:35:34 AM
Why the last one ever? If you have that big a hashrate, your earnings won't be going anywhere.

As difficulty goes up, the revenue (bitcoin mined) will go down.
Eventually, the revenue will not be enough for OP to pay the rent Tongue

That was my point. With him having a large enough hashrate to pay his rent, the difficulty increment can't possibly affect his earnings in a substantial way.

Unless of course, you mean that he makes (for example) 10 000 a month mining, and only needs to pay 1 000 rent.  Then an increase of 15% difficulty would only lower earnings to 8 500, still enough to pay the 1 000 rent.

That's what I meant. Sure,it's substantial, but my point was that his rent can still be paid.
If his rent is $1,000, then "enough to pay my rent" could be, say, $1,050. Difficulty goes up 20%, becomes $800.
Is that not clear? He also says "and possibly for the last month ever"...

Come on.

Gah! Alright, alright, you win! I was just stating one of the many myriad possibilities of OP's rent paying scheme.  Tongue

People are still using "bubble" to describe bitcoin Sad
1793  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ฿ - POLL - Have you ever made a donation using Bitcoin? on: February 02, 2014, 07:26:10 AM
I have started to make donations with bitcoin recently, though only a small amount Smiley

I'm assuming Humble Bundle counts to an extent? Paid for god knows how many already.

Woah, $500! Fox Sports and wild man waving banner better deliver.  Grin

At this penning, I'm 99.8% confident that all will go off without a hitch.

Game on!

I guess we will be able to see it in news tomorrow Smiley

1796  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Relay for life. on: February 02, 2014, 07:11:20 AM
Perhaps start a thread with lots of verifiable information about your college, your fraternity, yourself, and explain in detail who you are trying to help and why.

Don't skimp on the verifiable real life identities and stuff. People don't want to donate to "Random Joe's beer fund" when they think they are donating to "Relay for Life".

Folks are quick to call scam here for good reason. A lot of people ask for money without providing any kind of verifiable information about what they are going to do with it.

If you aren't keen on providing that kind of information, I would just give up now as you won't get any traction.

Exactly.
I guess you will get no donation with no info, no details, a new account and just saying I need help...  Wink
1797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WHY ARE WE wasting so much computing power?Cant we get coins for helping science on: February 02, 2014, 07:00:34 AM
btc computin power is many times more powerful than world's fattest supercomputer.

Right now, most of the btc hashrate comes from ASIC instead of CPU and GPU.
If my understanding is correct, ASICs are designed to work well only in integer performance.

What kind of scientific research requires only integer computation instead of floating-point?
1798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chicago Sun-Times Bitcoin Experiment RIGHT NOW so donate 25 cents!!! on: February 02, 2014, 06:53:13 AM
I agree that $.25 is a bit of a waste. It would be better to ask for a minimum donation of 0.001 BTC that way the transaction fee isn't more than the donation LOL.

BitWalls integrates with Coinbase.  If you want to save the 8 cent transaction fee, sign-up and fund a Coinbase wallet.  It's pretty slick (I tried for the first time today): the Coinbase wallet automatically detects that the receiving address is also a Coinbase customer, and then the transactions gets executed off-chain.  This saves the user the miner's fee, and relieves the bitcoin network of small dust-type transactions.

Micro-payments are one of the killer-apps for off-chain bitcoin transactions.

You'd still end up paying a fee to fund your coinbase account though no?  Either a fee for depositing fiat , or a minning fee sending btc to your coinbase wallet?

Yes you'd pay a miner's fee to fund your Coinbase wallet.  If micropayment take off, a lot of people would use their Coinbase (or similar) wallet for many many micropayments and only pay a fee each time they load or unload your Coinbase wallet on-chain.

Yup...just like how on-chain gambling sites is losing market shares to those off-chain gambling sites...
