1881  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Ideas for Bitcointalk related articles on: May 25, 2018, 11:21:52 AM
@SFR10

I doubt that they'll be attracted to that article, since it requires them to read around 800 words of text first Tongue
But yeah I could do something similar about airdrops also. I just keep repeating myself (in my articles), that it doesn't pay off to spam when you're participating in those campaigns.

Those other ideas are really good, hadn't thought about the puzzles yet, but seems like a very fun subject to write about!
1882  Other / Meta / Re: Is it allowed to lock a thread and move it? on: May 25, 2018, 11:01:25 AM
Yeah Service Discussion in the Altcoin section was probably the best fit Smiley
I know, I should have known how to move a topic, but it's a function that you don't really use that often.

Thanks for the suggestion.
1883  Other / Meta / Re: Is it allowed to lock a thread and move it? on: May 25, 2018, 01:10:24 AM
Oh damn, I had spent at least 10 minutes looking for that 'move thread' button, since I was 99% sure that I had seen it already.
Was just at the bottom of the entire first page  Roll Eyes

Yup, I'm stupid. Thanks for helping me out though!

Edit: Do you think that Service Discussion would be a good fit for that thread? I really just want it out of Altcoin Discussion, so don't mind finding any other place Smiley
1884  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Overview of all bitcoin casinos] Latest update: 24-05-18 WEBSITE LAUNCHED on: May 24, 2018, 11:40:01 PM
Good job on the website, but the home page looks kind of empty.
It might be a good idea to also add a big overview to your website as well, just so you don't have to visit all the individual pages.

I do love the simple, no-nonsense design, but it seems that some sites don't work anymore
https://wheel99.com seems to be down, don't know if it's temporary or not.
1885  Other / Meta / Is it allowed to lock a thread and move it? on: May 24, 2018, 11:27:51 PM
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'd just like to be sure if it's allowed.

I'd like to move my overview thread from Altcoins to Service Discussion, because it's just impossible to get any serious discussion going there.
Also, I think it's a better section, since many overview threads seem to be there.

Would it be okay to lock my existing thread and open a new one in Service Discussion?

This is the thread in question:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3242065 (Overview of Universal Basic Income Crypto Projects)

Or am I missing something and is it possible to move the thread in another way?
1886  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Decentralized Flippa on: May 24, 2018, 10:33:18 PM
I would personally love to see a service like this, but everything depends on the execution.
There are already quite a few regular marketplaces that accept crypto, most of them aren't doing particularly well it seems.

I would be worried about not having enough of a budget for marketing, as that could get quite expensive.

On the other hand, there might be some people who would prefer to sell their website for crypto.
1887  Other / Meta / Re: If this contiunes, we'll lose the Bitcoin Discussion topic on: May 24, 2018, 10:00:23 PM
Altcoin discussion is much much worse, you can check on page 20 and you'll still see posts from today.
Most of it is stuff that should just be removed, massive spam threads asking the same questions over and over.

Bitcoin Discussion still has some decent conversation, while it's completely impossible to follow anything in Altcoin Discussion.
1888  Economy / Economics / Re: Let's suppose that Bitcoin became universal (used everywhere you go) on: May 24, 2018, 09:33:46 PM
Well, taxes also don't automatically get removed from your bank account either...
It would be the same if Bitcoin became universally used. Governments would just accept payment in Bitcoin, but you would be responsible for making those payments and reporting your income etc.

Also, isn't it nice that they have this big ledger (blockchain) to see what kind of income you have received.
1889  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: (WIP) Community Compiled List of Sites Browser Mining on: May 24, 2018, 08:17:09 PM
Ahrefs Finds 1 in 7,353 Websites Are Running Cryptocurrency Mining Scripts

That's an alarming number of websites running mining scripts. When you put it into percentages it doesn't appear to be that significant of a number, but with all things considered that is an absurd amount of websites running mining scripts. Certainly not comparable to the amount of sites running traditional ads, but I believe with some etiquette and consensus-based rules developed around the idea of website using mining scripts there can be some fruitful implementation.

Does Ahref have any compiled list of these sites or are they simply gathering statistics?

I would be very interested in seeing that entire list though. I would assume it consists of mostly shady websites, for piracy, porn, free movies etc.
Even The Pirate Bay was accused of running a monero miner on their website.

Source: https://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-is-mining-cryptocurrency-again-no-opt-out-171011/

Don't know if they're still running it now though.
1890  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: GAMBLING ADDICTION: when it begin, and how to stop. Let me help you on: May 24, 2018, 08:01:29 PM
To be honest with you being really addicted to gambling only happens when you have a weak mind. I will admit I did gamble in the past and obviously the possibility of winning a lot of money in 1 spin/click is very tempting, at least at first, once you start losing or when you lose everything the temptation becomes anger. I once earned around 2 bitcoins starting with 0.004 in the past, it was around 1k $ total and then I lost everything. Losing everything didn't make me want to play more, it made me angry and made me realize I was stupid enough to keep playing even after such big winnings.

I wouldn't call addicts weak people, I think that under the 'right' circumstances almost anyone can become addicted.
Doesn't happen to weak people exclusively and you're not necessarily weak if you can't quit.

Sometimes I think it might be better if we approach addiction as if it was an actual disease.
Usually it's even out of the addicts direct control whether he can quit or not.
1891  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Ideas for Bitcointalk related articles on: May 24, 2018, 07:48:06 PM
You can write on how to make money using bitcointalk.org

I've already written an article explaining signature campaigns, but I can explore some other options as well.
The thing is that I try to avoid attracting spammers through these articles, so I'm kinda avoiding writing about airdrops etc.
1892  Bitcoin / Project Development / Ideas for Bitcointalk related articles on: May 24, 2018, 04:19:03 PM
I've recently started blogging on Steemit and in one of my series, I write about Bitcointalk.
Mostly tutorials and guides, but I also write about some of the history of this forum.

My latest articles:
https://steemit.com/story/@daan/tales-from-bitcointalk-forum-lending-in-the-early-days-of-bitcoin-1
https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@daan/tales-from-bitcointalk-guide-to-earning-btc-by-posting-ultimate-signature-campaign-tutorial-2
https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@daan/tales-from-bitcointalk-guide-to-earning-merits-3

https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@daan/what-happened-to-bitcointalk-forum (my first article, it isn't that great though)

I was hoping to get some more ideas for future articles, so if anyone knows some good subjects (bitcointalk related) to talk about, please share them here.

Keep in mind that I just do this for fun and also to improve my English a little bit.
I definitely know that I'm really not the greatest writer, so go easy on the criticism ;-)
1893  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency Does more Good than Harm? on: May 24, 2018, 12:19:03 PM
I don't really see how your first argument for the harm it does, has anything to do with cryptocurrency.
Those sound more like personal issues that you have, you could just as easily replace the word 'cryptocurrency' with anything else.

It's not cryptocurrency that causes you to have bad time management skills or make poor life choices, that's all on you.
1894  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: it crypto mining for all members on: May 24, 2018, 10:53:12 AM
To mine certain altcoins, you'd just need a machine with one or multiple GPU's and software to run a miner.
Here's a detailed guide on how to mine Monero for example: https://www.bitdegree.org/tutorials/monero-mining/

I've picked this one, because you don't need an ASIC to mine monero and you can test it out using a regular computer (though you won't make much).

If you want to get into Bitcoin mining, you really need an ASIC, that's an expensive specialized 'machine' which is specifically made to perform one task. Bitcoin mining in this case.

Do try to work a little bit on your English as well, I don't mean to sound rude, but you'll get a lot further when you can explain your problems so everybody can understand.
1895  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Non-chemical dependencies - Gambling on: May 24, 2018, 10:14:44 AM
I find this sort of stuff really interesting to read about. Maybe because I have so many family members that have dealt with addiction.
Always something I have to keep in mind every time that I gamble or do anything that might turn into addiction.

In reality, all of these amount to a chemical dependency due to the physiological changes that occur in the brain. Certain actions lead to the releases of endorphins, dopamine, serotonin etc that can trigger a pleasure or freedom from stress response. In the end, everything boils down to the neurological reward system, with all of these factors being triggers for reward, or aversion to stress (sometimes caused by lack of reward).

It's also pretty fascinating that in terms of brain chemistry, you don't see a difference in chemicals that are released. Whether you're addicted to a substance or a non-chemical activity like gambling.
I do hope we'll eventually figure out how to combat addiction more effectively, there's some really interesting research going on in that area too.

I've read some promising research, that might be able to completely remove the need for certain substances (also gambling), by magnetic brain stimulation.
Here's an article about that: http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2017/08/brain-altering-magnetic-pulses-could-zap-cocaine-addiction

Also worth it to look it up on Google Scholar and see the original research.
1896  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: South Africa Kidnappers demands Ransom in Bitcoin to free teenager on: May 24, 2018, 10:00:50 AM
Of course critics of Bitcoin always like to use news like this, just to 'prove' their point that Bitcoin is mostly used by criminals.
In reality, I'm sure that the absolute majority of criminal transactions are still done with either cash or through bank accounts even (by mules).

Heck, the other day I even saw a website that allowed you to buy various drugs and pay with a SEPA transfer. (on the clearnet mind you)

I do think that once Bitcoin or crypto in general is used by more and more people, news like this won't even matter that much anymore.
Then people might actually start seeing it as a form of digital cash, while also knowing that sometimes technology is used by bad people. It doesn't mean that the technology itself is bad.
1897  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Plans for 8th Annual Bitcoin Pizza Day? on: May 23, 2018, 09:02:46 PM
I didn't buy a pizza using bitcoin to celebrate as i couldn't find anyone who would accept it! However, i did buy one from the local supermarket and cooked it at home Wink
That guy would forever remember and curse the day that he choose to make such a transaction. I really hope that it wasn’t all ththat bitcoins that he had and that he didn’t make other transactions like this.

I really doubt it, you must be living a pretty sad life if you're constantly looking back on stuff like that and get upset about it.
Should I be getting mad every day because I didn't save 10 BTC that I bought for 100 dollars each? It's just a pure waste of time, no-one could have known it would get this big.

It's very easy to say 'he should have done this or that' years after the fact, with the knowledge you now have.
1898  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steemit or Medium on: May 23, 2018, 02:40:15 PM
Medium has far better quality in articles, but with Steemit you could potentially earn quite a lot more than on Medium.
I swear I've seen a similar question in the Serious Discussion board or something. There was one really good reply.

I've been active on Steemit for about 3 - 4 months now, I quite like it.
You do need to build a network of friends there that will upvote your posts. Usually you'll find curation groups on Discord, perfect place to start building those connections.

Steemit can be really good for publishing crypto-related content.

I think it might have been this reply, not sure though:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3114382.msg32317082#msg32317082

Why not publish all of your articles into both ?^^
That's something you could do, but can cause some problems on Steemit. You might get tagged by some of the anti-plagerism bots.
1899  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What cancer is keeping Bitcoin and the crypto market behind on: May 23, 2018, 09:28:15 AM
Oh come on, if you had just spent a little time comparing charts from a few years ago, you would know that this is far from the worst year.
The year after Mt. Gox went down was way worse than what we are seeing now.

I also do not think that Bitcoin Cash has anything to do with the current prices of Bitcoin. It's just one of many altcoins and all their attempts to 'take over' the Bitcoin community have failed.

@adnanNYC thanks for providing me with some comedy. Never get tired of seeing people refer to their duplicate accounts as 'friends' or 'family members'. The proof is pretty clear when you use the same devices and even Bitcoin addresses.

Was there any downtime today? I got an error saying 'Service is unavailable', but it's gone now luckily.
