2001  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DO you think doubleC should open an exchange for geistgeld w/ the btcexpress sit on: September 14, 2011, 07:55:29 PM
I think it would be wise for any alternative block-chain to discourage creation of exchanges for at least a month or three to get the bugs out.

That should also help build trust that the alternative chain developers/promoters aren't just trying to make some quick BTC.

I bet you would Gavin, it will cause an increase in BTC price, which suits me just fine as I have a hella lot more BTC than any other chain.

Sucks to be you with the btc price dropping.
2002  Economy / Speculation / Re: How much money will mtgox need for the trial? on: September 14, 2011, 07:54:05 PM
It seems that now all mtgox fees are in BTC - so to cover the costs they need to dump some of them in the market.  The trial then can have a strong impact on the market.  In both ways - because if they win the trial - then possibly the costs will be payed back for them by the losing side (anyone from France can confirm that?  I know in the USA this is not the case - but this is Europe).

mtgox fees are in whatever currency you are getting.  Buying BTC?  Fee is BTC.  Buying dollars (aka, selling BTC)?  Fee is dollars.

Also, MagicalTux has stated at least a few times that they don't ever buy or sell BTC because people would assume they are abusing their position.  Instead, they save their BTC to use on things like bailing out bitomat.

So how do they produce cash flow for their operation if they don't exchange btc for dollars?

Maybe they cash out using another exchange?

How does developer premining 7million coins fit into your proposal?
2004  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What was your biggest bitstake? on: September 14, 2011, 07:30:18 PM
Tried to mine bitcoins about a year ago...the client was buggy on my machine so I figured screw it.

BTC was less than a dollar at the time...
Got you beat, I discovered BTC early 2010 and didn't mine any with cpu because I felt pooled mining was too much of a hassle  Embarrassed

Wow early 2010 and you have little to show for it?

Damn I wish I was aware of bitcoin even back in Late 2010.

Sorry Guys.

Good luck with convincing anyone who has an operational exchange to support any additional alt-chains.

I think this is a wonderful idea.

I think alt-chains are great.  But I think they're worthless if they don't add something profoundly valuable.

A *coin value value should only be what the -idea- is worth.  Value in the idea is represented first by the growth and sustained Ghash. If a coin has enough of a 'faithful' userbase to sustain it for (for fun lets say) 3 months w/o an exchange, that means people aren't mining for immediate value, they're mining for future value - that many people think the idea has a future.  Get that under your belt before you start -instantly- trading it for another *coin/currency.

I agree. But keep in mind I'm not the one pushing hard for the exchange.

Namecoin on schedule

Solidcoin- no need to attack Solidcoin with Coinhunter running the show  Grin

Seriously SC is over, with his "kill switch" no one will have faith in a system that can be shutoff at the whim of the creator or possibly exploited by an outside force.

Also I have been informed that SA has their collective panties in wad over this and I have been "Dox'd"....targeted by the IRS (ROFL)....

If they Dox'd anyone, it was the wrong person  Grin

Well attacking namecoin isn't going to get you a GG exchange either. Good luck with convincing anyone who has an operational exchange to support any additional alt-chains.

You would think he would just give up and say fine i'm over it let's keep mining and exchanging. But no.
2008  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] New alternate cryptocurrency - Geist Geld on: September 14, 2011, 06:16:52 PM
Thanks for the announcement and sorry but I'm going to fight against this getting an exchange before the other coins are fixed. I would hate to see bitcoinexpress who was an early adopter of geist geld profit from his actions.
BCX doesnt have an advantage over anyone. He as well as the rest of us started on a newly launched network.
2009  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Multi chain block explorer on: September 14, 2011, 12:29:53 PM
Please add Geist Geld (i.e. GG) to your block explorer page.

Thanks!
2010  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ARE YOU MINING GG? on: September 14, 2011, 12:29:15 PM
not unless it gets restarted

It did restart about 24 hours ago. We are currently at like block ~ 6000.

The one in french court that will decide if bitcoin is a virtual currency or not and to how much rules it must comply.

that's funny because they are in Japan. Nowhere near France.
2015  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IOCoin Help on: September 14, 2011, 09:58:26 AM
I find that mining IOCoin is easy, just a short time and managed to mine quite a bit.  But the problem, what to do with them?  I can't seem to see any exchanger for IOCoin? Sad  Can anyone advise?

i0exchange.bitparking.com

its (izero) and not (io).

What exactly would a nonstandard tx look like or be used for?

Cunning and complicated things that allow for doing unusual stuff like Escrow (when 2 or more parties have to sign a transaction to decide who would eventually get them moneys) or somesuch.

One of the most attractive, to me, was Gavin's hidden transactions, but it turns out it's not workable for now (I can't help wondering if amendments can be made to make it work without thoroughly ruining things and opening a large can of worms, it is/was such an awesome little thing...hm...food for thought Wink)

Hmm hidden transactions? Any other details or threads you can direct me to on this topic?

In previous posts BitcoinEXpress has said he would attack other chains. Obviously this puts any exchange on those chains at risk hence my stopping deposits and withdrawals in the meantime. If you outline your so called "checkpoint hopping" exploit and other chain attacks for the chain authors to provide solutions for I can consider re-opening them. In the meantime they'll remained closed until I'm confident that a safe way for people to withdraw the funds is available. If you want them opened quicker I suggest you contact the chain authors to fix them.

In posts on the namecoin forums you've stated that amicable resolutions can be reached and implied that if I open an exchange for the GG chain you wouldn't attack namecoin. You even emailed me personally recently asking me to open a GG exchange. Why would I want to run any exchange with the issues you profess plans to exploit existing?

Read: No GG exchange until all of this BS blows over.

Why teach us how to make money if you already know how to do it. Just exploit your findings and make a truck load and forget us peons.
