2141  Other / Meta / Re: My post was removed without explanation. What are my next steps? on: May 11, 2022, 07:28:45 PM
Seems the possibility to retrieve deleted/removed posts and the no notification/message receive, I guess the thread wasn't deleted, just moved to some board only mods can see and retrieve (correct me if im wrong though).
Yes. The thread would have been moved to trashcan upon which there would be no notification that the thread was deleted. Threads are moved there for this particular situation as it is possible to reinstate threads which are moved there, but only certain mods or the admin have this ability, IIRC.
2142  Other / Archival / Re: Gambling Campaigns on: May 11, 2022, 07:23:57 PM
Other services come across very rarely, and if they do appear, they exist for a short period of time and then leave this forum. The BestChange and ChipMixer campaigns are rather an exception to the rule, advertising non-gambling services that have existed here for years. Everything else is gambling.
If there are exceptions to something, then it means that the other possibility exists, that is to say that if there are projects besides gambling related ones that thrive off marketing on the forum (could be one or two), then there can be more regardless of the idea that the forum users are more interested in gambling or there are better marketing options for non gambling related projects.

Maybe if those other projects take a page from BesChange or Chipmixer play book then they could get quality advertisment on the forum and reach out to the right audience through quality marketing.
2143  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Use P2P methods to sell your crypto in local currency. on: May 10, 2022, 06:46:16 PM
It is very hard to determine who is telling the truth.
It's not that hard actually.
If a user sells to a local buyer and another forum user sells to the same local buyer, chances are that this buyer would be dealing with a lot more users than them and would likely be sending out constantly to exchange the currencies.
If you track the blockchain transactions then you can see all the incoming and outgoing transactions and make a calculated guess; If the transaction has only occured between the two users then and no activity to suggest the account sent to is a trading account, then it would be difficult to prove they are not connected.

It depends on how long such hype and momentum can be fueled. In the best case, such a thing can last for years. As already written, Doge and Shiba are very good examples. There are also others. In the case of Doge, this trend has been going on for a few years, even though Elon Musk is a strong promoter of it which helps much. With Shiba, it has been going on for a little more than a year now and it still works. From the technological side there are hundreds of better projects out there.
That's true, Shiba has been around for a while and Doge, even longer built manly on hype and a market to support its growth. Would be interesting to see how much the hype and momentum can carry it. I personally as an investor would not bank long term on an asset which is only built on hype.
2145  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Use P2P methods to sell your crypto in local currency. on: May 10, 2022, 05:37:02 PM
it is possible and logical that some hunters could sell their crypto to that same buyer.
It is very possible and is considered in different cases, I'm on DT2 and I consider it. I've also seen threads were users were accused of being alts due to related blockchain transaction, but it was quickly debunked as being too vague to serve as evidence; A case by case basis, sort of.

If you come acirsee such threads and go through the evidence, you can aseell consider them and comment or tag based on your conclusions.
2146  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Happy to be here. on: May 10, 2022, 05:21:18 PM
So far in my very short time here, I have opened a lot of pages here
That would set you apart from about 90%+ of the users who sign up here, but do not bother to read about the forum they are on.
There are thousands of helpful threads around the forum which would help you grow in Bitcoin and also acquaint you with how the forum works, the rules posted above is one of them. Also be on the lookout for stickies; they are threads pinned to the top of different boards and give basic information about those boards or general Bitcoin knowledge.

Welcome to the forum and good luck, make what you want of it.
2147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it Really Trustworthy? on: May 10, 2022, 05:13:53 PM
Suppose you woke up tomorrow morning and found that Bitcoin had dropped to 0$, or that Bitcoin had disappeared or been scammed. How will you be at that moment?
First scenario; Bitcoin going down to $0. That would be a huge shock on my path, I'll probably be stunned for quite a while as I cannot think of any logical reasoning for that to happen; and my first step would be to know what might have caused that, let's say there was a hypothetical reason that made Bitcoin to lose all of its market value but doesn't inherently affect how it operates, I'll definitely possibly buy more and hodl, hopefully the world comes back to its senses soon. I'll be wary of such situation happening again.
If it was a situation that does affect the integrity of the network, I might hesitate a bit to determine to what extent, before deciding if to buy or not.

Second and third scenario; are literally just wild assumptions. An individual can make a mistake and their bitcoins disappear or are stolen, if I were to be in that situation, it would be a huge burner and I'll have to start building from scratch again to grow my Bitcoin portfolio.

The entire network cannot disappear or get stolen.
2148  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Signature on copper membership on: May 09, 2022, 03:38:32 PM
I'm currently building a pretty unique casino review website with a lot of new features and I don't want my time and money to result in nothing. That's why I'm asking Smiley
Marketing is an important factor of building any business and you should have budgeted for that from the beginning. No business can thrive without publicity.
If you really want effective publicity, simply buying copper membership and wearing one might not reach out to much users. (You can of course market on other social platforms)
Does your casino accept cryptocurrency, if so, then you should consider the advice on running a signature campaign. You can check out similar projects in the services section. You can handle it yourself if you're up for it or hire a campaign manager; I happen to be one.

To be honest, I don't know exactly whether newbie can use signature or not because as a registered user in 2020, I never had a signature space on my profile. Maybe previously allowed for some characters before changing, but maybe I missed it.
Newbies can no longer wear signatures, since the enhanced newbie restrictions;
Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted. Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text.
2149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you want to live a peaceful life? Without drama? Then HODL and enjoy the ride on: May 09, 2022, 03:28:22 PM
I applaud your hands of steel. When you go through different market cycles, the thirll of price increases does not impact you much, neither does the panic of price drops, it's just a series of ups and downs, depending on the season, and the assurance that the price net direction is upwards.

You are a true Bitcoiner among us all. I was first to know about bitcoin in 2015 but unfortunately, I was not wise enough to maintain bitcoin in my portfolio. In fact, life was quite tough for me which forced me to sell all my bitcoin during the 2018 downtrend.
When you need to to do something, you need to. Selling your Bitcoin a times when you needed the money does not make you mad of a bitcoiner, it was something you had to do.
My advice would be to manage your investment and only put in money you would not need in an emergency situation, that way you will not need to panic sell.

This cycle is deadlier than all the previous. Many of my friends are crying about losing money both in Cryptocurrency and stocks.
You only lose when you sell.
2150  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Signature on copper membership on: May 09, 2022, 03:11:54 PM
You can promote it yourself with simple signature until you rank up, but there are other ways you can promote your business in bitcointalk forum.
The OP would not be able to post any signature unless they get at least one merit to rank up to Jr. Member or if they buy copper membership, the period of signatures for newbie has been disabled for sometime now.
Your other suggestions about how the OP can get publicity would surely help.

Op if you are willing to discuss the business you plan to market, then you can get more appropriate help for your marketing.
2151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Worth investing? on: May 09, 2022, 11:47:33 AM
I should point out that integrating a platform cause of the hype around it seems a bit like fishing for investors rather than building a sustainable project. Devs ever so often would change their marketing approach to suit the current trends so as to profit off those trends and that seems a bit dubious, not saying that's what Oasis is particularly doing as I've not followed the project.

Hype, momentum and marketing are much more important factors for the success of a crypto project, just look at Doge or Shiba. What I want to say is, don't worry about the technology if you want to see price increases for your investment.
How long are these factors expected to carry a project? Hype an momentum and fleeting qualities as there's always the next hype which comes up, and marketing tends to follow hype and trends.
2152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why didn't I buy bitcoin? (article translation) on: May 09, 2022, 11:40:58 AM
Good read of a very common situation which would apply to a lot of people. And why I would want to fault the reasoning of mistrust or hesitation at the time when there was very little credible information about Bitcoin, it is interesting to note that such hesitation would save one from bad investments more often then not.

One thing I found ironic about the whole read was how initially, it was puzzling that you could mine out of nothing; as nothing should come free. And, after dropping it and dabbling back in years later, it was puzzling that it came with an electricity bill. Both situations seemed mildly contradictory.

As we have stated, here several parties are involved including the customer's bank which seems to be unresponsive so far to our inquiries related to certain checks they need to perform.
This is quite a vague response. So I'm essence, you cannot send the money to the user's bank cause of checks the bank is unresponsive to?
How I understand the process, after the crypto exchange forwards the payment request to the bank, they verify and confirm it, then credit the customer, which stage in this communication are you at now or am I getting it all wrong?
2154  Other / Off-topic / Re: US offers reward for information on Russian cybercriminals on: May 08, 2022, 02:27:24 PM
Cyber thefts intensify as cryptocurrencies take more ground on the planet,
The article was in no way related to Bitcoin, so I do not understand the purpose of the opening line. Also, cyber thefts did not intensify as a result of cryptocurrencies, it has been a thing years before the blockchain or any cryptocurrencies where invented. Crypto does not directly motivate crime, anything of value would be used for illegal activities, especially the popular fiat.
2155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: AN INTERESTING WAY TO INTRODUCE BITCOIN LEARNING TO OUR YOUNGEST FUTURE GENERATI on: May 08, 2022, 02:21:33 PM
Once they understand these tokens, they can start collecting different types of digital currency all by themselves,
What do you mean "collecting"? Are you suggesting they do tasks or offer services in exchange for digital currencies?
Your topic title highlights bitcoin, but the posts content is suggesting introducing kids to a wide range of coins and tokens, which in my opinion would be a bad idea.

You can start impacting healthy financial knowledge in children from an early age. That's the concept of the book 'Rich Dad; Poor Dad'. There is a limit to what they can understand at a young age, so you need to take an extra effort to learn teaching methods suitable for different ages if you really want to impact useful knowledge.
2156  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which is the safest wallet to store coins and why? on: May 08, 2022, 01:57:24 PM
trust wallet is one of the safest wallet. As a Bounty hunter I always use Trust Wallet.
Trust wallet is not a recommended wallet, they are not open source and have other huge question marks about their operations.
If you're looking for a secure, open source and non custodian wallet, you should check other options depending on what currency you wish to store.
2157  Other / Meta / Re: $1 000: If you can move or delete a post that you are not supposed to be able to on: May 08, 2022, 11:55:15 AM
The topic title comes from Security bounties:
Quote
$1 000: If you can move or delete a post that you are not supposed to be able to
If you take the literal explanation of the bounty on moving and deleting a post you are not supposed to and compare that with the auction rule, it could be said that it still stands and you "can not" move or delete a post you're not supposed to; while the post is in the auctions board, it's impossible to edit, when you move it to another board it conforms to the rules of that board, if you move it back to auctions; again, you cannot edit it. Just like how you can start a thread as self mod and remove that feature, even though it should not be possible.

This is definitely something that can be exploited, I'm just not sure it is in accordance with the bounty agreement.

However, more people are still entering the crypto area now and i believe will still be entering in the near future. They can't neccesaryly utilize a hardware wallet since (like Ledger Nano S, Trezor Model One- Crypto Hardware Wallet, SafePal S1, Steel Bitcoin Wallet for Hardware Wallet Backup), given its use and cost, a software wallet seem to better option. But in light of the recorded hacks, which wallet do you believe is the safest and most secure for storing cryptocurrency in resent times and why?
On the basis of "use"; anyone can properly set up and use a hardware wallet. There are lots of helpful tutorials about how to do so, and with a bit of research anyone can get them. Products are designed to be used and have instructions to this effect. The idea that Bitcoin is some bizzare concept which is almost impossible to understand is inaccurate.

On the basis on "cost"; it boils down to how much you plan to keep in your wallet, significant amounts like $5000+ are safer in a hardware wallet than on a mobile phone/PC.
Much smaller amounts can be carried around in a mobile device, sort of like a digital wallet.

I am not familiar with this case. What did he do and what was he accused of?
As far as I understand he is a crypto investor, is cryptocurrency trading illegal in Nigeria?
Cryptocurrency trading is not particularly illegal, the only law is that which bans Banks from mediating in crypto transactions.
About what he did, probably nothing illegal, in a country like Nigeria, the border between rule of law and arbitrary actions from security operatives is murkied and one can be arrested and charged over mere suspicions; Reason for the nation wide protests about two years ago against a particular security sect which were know to victimize citizens, especially youths. You could try googling EndSars protest, there's a thread about it on the forum too.
2160  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: May 07, 2022, 07:49:50 PM
The combination of your post and _act_'s mentioning that we have the "report button"  causes me to consider that maybe removing merits could be one of the selective punishments - but even that seems like a slippery slope concept of too many weird dynamics regarding when it might be applied...
It would be quite a slippery slope considering how it can be applied. Merits are awarded by individual users based on their assessment, a system that overrides my opinion of a post seems a bit too much. Even banned users can still receive merits on their posts (IIRM), so it shows that their contribution to the forum is very much appreciated even though they broke the rules.

and I believe that there have been a couple of instances of merit reversing.. but probably those instances could be counted on 1 or 2 hands?
And I think those were based on merits sent erroneously or proven cases of abuse which raised too much eyebrows.
