One difference with BFL is that at least BFL designed their own chips (well, together with Chronicle) and already had a somewhat successful FPGA product.
00king00 explained their reasons for buying. I do wonder if they're still feeling as optimistic as they did a month and a half back.
If you are less optimistic they can produce something on a BFL timeline then why bother at this point. Why do people (I don't believe these two customers are infact customers at all to be honest) insist on buying vapourware when you can purchase used or new in stock right now? There is ZERO benefit in fact it is a negative to wait for new hardware at all unless you are replacing capacity with more efficiency. The logic is lacking that is why I really really really doubt these people are just honest to goodness consumers. They are more like paid shills or like BCP19 a paid employee of BFL or Loshia getting kickbacks from Technobit.eu to keep promoting product even when the community knows it is a bullshit product or a full on scam. In the Kansas area. Yes it is a high humidity area during summer. Nothing compared to Georgia and Kansas is very similar to China where those mega farms use the evaporative cooling walls. Should be fine. I am seriously considering it for our 3rd Floor at our school just exactly like it is in the video as a trial. I only need it 5 days a week for a few hours a day here and we are nearly on the Equator. Do you have any advice that is more "plug and play". Something that I can buy and plug in to cool it down. The building wall is beyond me currently on my ability. What i have done right now is separate my asics in two main areas. It is disappointing to not put all in this area, but I guess maybe winter if I cannot get heat down. Need to see the space layout some sort of plan view or diagram etc to think about it and suggest any ideas on what might be viable options. Again the video I posted is a simple window mount DIY take you a weekend to set up and building and install. There are portable evap coolers as well. |

Its crazy anyone would pay Uranus 6TH/s - $3299 USD. Now we know it's not going to be their chip, not a big surprise. But no one has released anything close to the specs they promise. So will they wait 6 months if that's what it takes to get a chip with those specs? (And i'm guessing timeline no one knows this). From those that ordered what made you feel safe ordering this product? Just use the old BFL timelines just as good as any. Here it is:  The Monarch is 509 days and 11 hours late.This will go the way of 'refunds' for anyone stupid enough to buy from HashCoins. FYI, everyone who ordered from BFL and has not yet received their equipment is eligible for a full refund. If they don't give it to you, take them to small claims court and get a judgement against them. Then get that judgment enforced in Kansas. You don't need a lawyer, shouldn't cost more than $50.

well - for example all you have to do is buy Bitfury's chip design and open-source it. I have already done #2, and plenty of people did #3. #4 will happen by itself. Yup. And what happened? You broke even maybe? How many Bitfury chips can you buy today? Millions bought them and now we had decentralized mining right? 100's did that is great but that is not millions, not enough to do much more than keep some hobbyists happy. There are things you can change. There are things you can't change. I don't see how you break a monopoly that is coming at all. Expecting these companies to be like you vs3 in anyway is not the hope you should be waiting for. I don't see anyone going to put the time and the effort in to make an ASIC and then get miners in the hands of millions which is the only way you beat the big players. It is over unless that happens somehow. I submit that the end is now and the monopoly on mining is already here and won't be challenged. |

We clearly don't need a winner. I wonder though if the price of Bitcoin won't keep ALL the ASIC vendors in check. By that I mean a low BTC/USD price keeps them from trying to kill each other. A high BTC price may encourage a "winner take all" strategy, which may not benefit any miner long term (past a couple of difficulty adjustments).

Don't kid yourself. The price war is not the issue it is the efficient and hashrate volume that is the battle ground. The price of these chips and units for the small and ever shrinking home market is not what will drive the end of these companies. Guy at Spondoolies already laid it out numerous times on what will kill these wannabes competing with the those with a game plan, real engineering teams and the money. The battle for $ per gh/s is silly and meaningless given the volume of hashpower that might come online before 2016. The nuclear weapons are ready to be unleashed. This will leave only 2 or 3 main superpowers. --- As for wanting big centralized systems based on 2 or 3 companies. NO FUCKING WAY! Here is how we stop it. 1. Open source ASIC chip. 2. If you can ship more Terahash Petahash in a small, quiet, unobtrusive low cost device to millions that is the only way to decentralize things and get those miners on a P2Pool. Counting on Avalon or Bitmain or SFards as your chip / miner supplier saviour is like asking the fox to watch the hen house. Insanity. No one learned a lesson from KnC or Bitfury did they? If you have a chip and it makes economic sense to mine massively for your benefit as company you will do it. Be realistic this won't happen so the best we can hope for is a few more months maybe a year of projects like Gekkoscience or J4bberwock's effort. |

Only for the best equipped army. Hmm. My can do 0.51 Wt/Gh (freq. 400, 1.3 Th). At acceptable noise level. May be it is not so "dead quiet" like Avalon 4.1, but S5 a) cheaper, b) easier in deploying. Also, S5 is better in price/Gh if I am not mistaken. But you said it already.  The avalon 4.1 becomes really easy to setup. After the first one is setup on a rasp pi 12 more will just plug n play. Running very stable. Plus you can stack them 2 or 3 high as the pcie's are on the back end. If your s-5 is doing .51 at freq 400 1.3th you did a fan mod. BTW they can be fan modded and noise level is okay at 1.3th somewhere I have a thread on it. But price wise 800gh for 2.3 btc = 66 cents a gh vs 1150gh for 1.66 btc = 33 cents a gh Which is what I said. Believe it or not all this is not off topic. those 2 numbers 66 cents a gh vs 33 cents a gh are my pricing guide for this new gear. Too close to 66 cents and it is over priced. Hm... i only now, when you mentioned this, realized that toomim brothers are a competitor of AsicSpace. Even though the investigation sounds trustworthy... this can hardly be seen as an independent investigation then. I thought they are hardware nerds who can check those things out. But letting the competitor decide if the competition made an error is not really something that comes to mind when one wants an independent investigation about the source of the problems. I dont say anything, i only point out a conflict of interests.

Oh ok... I assumed you had humidity issues at your site not related to the evaporative cooling idea. My bad. Evaporative cooling is used in Jakarta we have very high humidity all the time but they are running those on a much different system and definitely not evaporative walls like in those mega farms. Most of those places (mining farms in China) would have the same relative humidity / climate as where you are but I am sure they have it worked out to keep humidity down inside as these systems are used predominantly in chicken farms / greenhouses. Greenhouses and poultry farms can't have high humidity either as that would promote disease. The salt film will most likely stop up the pad. I don't think it would harm the plants, since the air in your climate probably has as much, or more salt in it than you would be introducing to the greenhouse through the evap system. The system can go through quite a bit of water in a days time, at least it does for me anyway. That's why I have a float valve with a water supply line attached to it on the reservoir. It's not a ridiculous amount, but substantial all the same. In other words, you would have to check, and refill at least every 4 hours, depending on the size of your tank, and how long is required to run to maintain your desired temp. Is there a way to dehumidify the air coming in? Do you have adequate roof ventilation? Seems odd you would have humidity issues is that because of the open windows? Got any cheap desiccants like rice husks, wheat stalks or rock salt? Found this on a DIY site: Rock Salt
I have tried this rock salt method and it works for me.
Materials you will need:
2 five gallon buckets and a bag of rock salt .Rock salt will pull moisture out of the air, therefore decreasing humidity.
Using a drill, put some holes, a couple dozen, in the sides and bottom of 1 bucket. Place the bucket with the holes on top of the intact 5 gallon bucket. Pour rock salt into the top bucket. Place the buckets in the area to be dehumidified.
As the rock salt pulls moisture out of the air, the moisture will collect in the bottom bucket, Dump liquid and replace rock salt in order to continue dehumidifying the area if necessary. I don't have humidity issues. But i don't have the "dry heat" that evaporation is used with. The weather has a humidity of 61 percent currently. So I assume humidity such as this makes evaporation cooling not a option. Unless I just don't understand evaporation cooling which is possible. I truly would appreciate your advice if I am understanding it wrong. Yes it has windows open, which allow the air from outside with currently 61 percent humidity. On adequate roof ventilation. It's never been a problem before gable fan has always worked. Along with roof vent's. But with miners it might need more I'm not sure. |
