2361  Other / Off-topic / Re: Wired: The Shadow Internet That’s 100 Times Faster Than Google Fiber on: June 19, 2014, 06:51:22 PM
This isn't all that revolutionary. A lot of companies use a technology called Dense Wave Division Multiplexing to allow multiple wavelengths of light down the same stand of fiber. With current technology you can easily (pretty expensively though) get 40 10 gigabit channels down a single fiber. A lot of large companies use this technology for data center and large office interconnects.
2362  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Iran actress scandal?? on: June 19, 2014, 06:44:33 PM
Actually, I do think Iranians have a right to have a say in the actions of people representing their country such as celebrities or sport stars because it affects the image of a country, especially an Islamic country like Iran!
Imagine an athlete from US saying how gay people are disgusting and should not be allowed to marry when he was at an international event. I'm sure the political backlash would be tremendous as well!
That actress does not represent anyone, even if she was only Iranian in the festival. No Iranian agency or organization authorize or pay her to present in France. She acted for her own, not for Iran.
Isn't too hypocrite to ask for an actress to behave morally for the name of her people, especially when the people is not that moral.
I am all for women rights! But I can't say that I don't understand where the other side's argument is coming from. I think every time you appear on an international stage, you are representing your country because people's eyes will all be on you and your ethnicity and with that, comes a certain level of responsibility where you have to act appropriately to represent the values of your country.

And every time you do something bad, not only you but your countrymen have to take the blame for it. For example, when Muslim extremists attacked the world trade center during 9/11, people didn't say "oh, it is because they are extremists. other Muslims are innocent." but instead it lead to a widespread paranoia against Muslims and they are still being discriminated against until today due to what a small number of people did.
Well, as you said "every time you appear on an international stage, you are representing your country because people's eyes will all be on you and your ethnicity" => in this case I am wondering which symbol for and value of US I should see thought US representatives, Oprah Winfrey or Miley Cirus? Difficult case right?

About your example of the case of Muslims, I guess the civilized world said the 9/11 was due to Muslim extremists, while some people say just Muslim. Racism exists along with existence of human being unfortunately. It is the same like the way we used to about black people, or immigrants. They both, black and immigrants, with time prove themselves and take their roles in our society today.

I can give a typical sample: people nowadays are very careful with china-made stuff, especially foods. We behave the same way toward commodity from China. But look in the stores, majority is china-made, in particular clothes.

After all, I think people do not judge an ethnicity by behavior of a small group, but they just take precautions. And of course there are some people who are somehow racists, trying to equate a group with the people / ethnicity they present.

Another question: if my mother is Hispanic, my father is Anglo Saxon and Asian mixed, I was born in Morocco and now living in the States but I have French citizenship, which people you would blame if I do something bad?

One to ten years of imprisonment plus flogging for pecking a foreign non-Muslim individual ( must mention that which is a normal gesture) is a punishment stated by Islam
I completely respect the religion.. But I would like to know what would be the punishment if Hatami had kissed a Muslim boy ?
Absolutely agree with you !
Women in Iran aren't a symbol of innocence and chastity.. They simply are used for oppression.. I guess it is now the time for Islam to break the shell of dark ages and step up... It should follow the Catholics..
Catholics used to be really bad in the oppression of women too.. What do you guys think changed? How come they are so much more open now towards women rights compared to some of the Muslim countries like Egypt, Iran & Syria?
2364  Other / Off-topic / Re: Sexism double standards experiment. on: June 19, 2014, 06:13:02 PM
I think in today's male-dominated society where most men still get the higher level jobs, higher pay compared to women and are the ones who commit crimes the most and the media which confirms the male dominant stereotypes, and all this together with the news of the oppression and atrocities committed against women in countries such as Iran, Pakistan and Syria, the notion of 'women abusing men' is often thought as laughable and not to be taken seriously.

Hold on, no one is against corporations operating efficiently, right? If PT workers solve their problems you cannot expect them to employ FT workers. And automation is eliminating jobs as well, and nothing can prevent the best, cheapest form of productivity.
I nominate this  last  post for  most delusional post of the year so far.
If only you had the intelligence to challenge a word of what I wrote. But you do not.
Why bother to challenge someone who is so out of touch with reality as to be unwilling to admit Obama is a Cloward-Piven pl
aying marxist, Sana?
You totally ignore all evidence that he is a monumental failure and fan this jackass while he lights fire after fire.  His polling sucks and you spin it.  You are as much a waste of air and skin as he.

Just curious since you express interest in income inequality and cite Obama as part of the problem. What solutions do you advance for this issue? What is it Obama should be doing here specifically?
Oh, I bet you are curious...  It helps distract you from the fact you are a blind partisan who can't actually defend Obama or his economic policy failures.
You didnt wanna be called 666 derogatory names including stupid, extremist, and non compromiser? You notice I assigned Sana the number 666. Ha! If there was a devil......

But I will list a few so Sana can unleash his number on me.

1. Cut Fed. Govt to about 16% of GDP. This includes Defense.

2. Cut regulations by 80%

3. And abolish the IRS, EPA, NSA, Homeland Security, BLM, and Dept of Ed.

4. Implement the FairTax

None of this surprises...the US has been using "think tanks" and analysts over decades to look at future trends/threats. Today it's climate effects such as food and water shortages, immigration from mass population movements. I guess no-one can plan for 100 years ahead but a few decades - probably. The oil grab worldwide, esp. fracking, seems to me a hunkering down by Western countries to secure this "Western" future. Sod the climate, surely analysts who advise those in power know this is down the tubes.
And can one imagine anything like what's happening in the Middle East getting to Europe or the US? Everything will be done to stop this.
2369  Other / Off-topic / Re: Sexism double standards experiment. on: June 19, 2014, 03:47:02 PM
It is just a fundamental difference between the sexes. Basically, women develop less muscle and ....Well, this is how it has been going on since ages and root of this lies in the fundamental difference between the genders.. Women are the smaller side in terms of physique and stature and thus gain sympathy from people as a whole..
Yes, you have the right idea. I think the main justification for our double standards is that women are generally physically weaker than men. So people's perception is that is a man starts to abuse a woman, the woman cannot fight back because the man is stronger than she is. However, if a woman starts to abuse a man, the man can easily fight back and protect himself.
So society's perception is that when a woman hits a man and the man takes the beating, it is more like he is ALLOWING the woman to hit him and can use his strength to stop the woman anytime but when a man is hitting a woman, the woman have no choice and cannot fight back because she is weaker and this puts her in a much more dangerous position.

All villages in the area should be given something valuable with a GPS device in it. When members of Boco Haram steal it they will easy for the drones to find.
2371  Other / Off-topic / Sexism double standards experiment. on: June 18, 2014, 04:31:38 PM
So I happened to read about this experiment today and just wanted to share it with you all:

"A hard-hitting experiment has revealed how strangers react differently when seeing domestic abuse depending on the gender of the aggressor.
A video filmed with hidden cameras at a London park shows a male actor attacking his ‘girlfriend’ in front of onlookers who immediately rush to help, with one shouting: ‘Oi mate, what's wrong with you?’
The man is told ‘someone will call the police if you carry on doing that to someone’, before a passer-by says to the woman: ‘You don't have to put up with that honey, he's not worth it’.

The experiment is then conducted with the same actors - but this time, the woman is the aggressor, attacking him and saying: ‘Don't try to walk away - listen to me when I'm talking to you.’
However, instead of reacting with shock, nobody watching even attempts to help the man. They actually seem rather entertained by the incident, stopping to stare and laughing about it.

The videos were filmed with three hidden cameras on May 16 for the ManKind Initiative, a charity based in Taunton, Somerset, which aims to provide support for male victims of domestic abuse."

So what do you guys think?

Why do people not get angry when girlfriends physically or verbally abuse their boyfriends?
2372  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Events that changed the world... on: June 18, 2014, 03:42:22 PM
Bhola cyclone 1970:- The Bhola cyclone that struck the Bengal Coast in 1970 was the deadliest tropical cyclone ever recorded, wiping out entire villages and killing as many as half a million people. The government at the time was criticized for failing to handle relief efforts and protests led to its defeat in the national elections a month later.
From the same period -Tangshan earthquake 1976: The Tangshan earthquake in 1976 was one of the deadliest earthquakes in China’s history, causing around 242,000 people to lose their lives. The political repercussions of the disaster, however, went far beyond the death toll and damage.

The United States may have hoped that swapping five Guantanamo Bay prison detainees for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl would have sparked talks between the Taliban and Afghan government, but so far the deal has yet to result in movement towards reconciliation.
2374  Economy / Economics / Re: Solution to poverty - Socialism or Capitalism? on: June 18, 2014, 03:24:55 PM
The causes of poverty are manifold. War, disease, famine and unemployment being the big players. We can overcome this problem by doing following ideas:-
1. Employment generation
2. Drawing on various social institutions to fund poverty fighting programs e.g. charities, research institutions, U.N. , non-profit organizations, universities.
3. Transparency in government spending
4. Canceling impossible to repay world debts
5. Prioritizing programs that target fundamental human rights
6. Taxing the rich more and the poor less
7. Building self-sufficient economies
8. Education
9. Involvement of the media
10. Microfinancing
Ending poverty is a daunting challenge. Following is our call to action:

First, forgive international debt unconditionally and stop other predatory tactics. End the use of economic power as a means by which the wealthy control the poor.
Second, change the tax system in every country of the world. If justice is to be done, most of the taxes should fall on property ownership and not on the wages of working people.
Third, the poor should demand land reform, restoring land (or its value) to the people who actually work on it, instead of a few landowners.
Fourth, end privatization of natural resources and share these in common. Land, air, water, and oil are the common inheritance of all of humanity, not the stockholders of companies that have managed to grab these resources.
Fifth, "degrowth" in the rich nations--a radical cut in consumption of resources and production of waste--is necessary for the poor nations to survive. As Gandhi said, "Live simply, so others can simply live."

Having plans means nothing if you haven't got the power to implement them. okay, we should certainly give him a chance to further prove that, given enough time, he can indeed be considered the worst president based on the time he had to accomplish it. We don't have to prejudge this based on his not having had enough time yet to qualify and use the experience we have already witnessed. He can still do more damage.
2379  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What good things has Obama had since he is elected ? on: June 17, 2014, 03:30:10 PM
Barack Obama has executed a whole lot of tasks.. However, the best of the lot is the killing of terrorist Osama Bin Laden and the end of war in Iraq.
That’s not true , he didn’t kill Osama Bin Laden , SWAT and FBI team did that , but yes that happened when he came to the office . But what you think about starting this war with Libya ? Is it the same like with Iraq just few miles difference same goal same oil same shits happening .
He did not kill Osama Bin Laden, all the credit goes to the brave men who carried out the mission, and not to mention that Bush has come close many times, so it's no great accomplishment.
