2682  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: post for aid on: December 05, 2022, 12:17:35 PM
This forum may indeed seem confusing for a newbie, especially to those who never visited any other forum in the past. With that being said, take your time to go through pinned messages both in Beginner & Help to learn dos and don'ts and Meta section and generally don't rush anywhere. Let all the info sink and when/if in doubt, simply ask and someone will answer.
2683  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: More platforms will bite the dust? on: December 05, 2022, 11:03:10 AM
There are people in social media that have warned to be cautious with platforms that offer high APY and those platforms that have laid off employees from jobs in their companies.
While high APY is definitely a huge red flag even before everything that has happened in the last six months (are there even any platforms left that offer ~10% like Celsius did ?), I don't think that exchanges laying off people is something to worry about. It even makes sense as crypto businesses (and not just them) tend to hire/lay off based on the market conditions and since we are deep into bear market that may last for a couple years and you have to cut your expenses in order to survive.

Regarding your question in the title, I wouldn't be surprised if some platforms from that list you shared go under. Anyone that still has money on any of the platforms is simply asking for trouble.
2684  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Binance aml/kyc in the eu on: December 05, 2022, 08:23:35 AM
Disagree.  There is still a lot to give.  I made big privacy mistakes before yet here I am.  Does not mean I have to give every thing because I gave something once.  If I think something is an overreach, I retreat.
Of course you don't have to give everything. As a matter of fact you don't have to give anything as long as you avoid CEX.

There are some Centralized Exchanges which still do not ask for Know Your Customer procedures.  Instead of depositing large amounts, why not proceed differently.  Deposit small parts and withdraw after every trade.  If you want to trade $10,000 in branches of $1,000 each, it will take you 10 deposits, 10 trades and 10 withdrawals.  But if they crack down on your account, you lose only $1,000.
And for how long that's gonna work, trader depositing few thousands in smaller batches and then withdrawing even more, on the daily basis? My guess is not long before you get asked for KYC.

It is unfortunate.  But these are the modern regulations and laws and they may get worse over the next years.  All we can do is either comply or adapt our strategies to their measures.
If you wanna use all the CEX pro's, be ready to accept all the cons as the way things are developing , in a year or two it won't be possible to use any CEX without KYC. Small time traders may try to work around those regulations and try to avoid KYC but anyone dealing with bigger amounts (and I know few of those) will simply accept the reality.
2685  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Are my coins too safe? on: December 04, 2022, 04:33:09 PM
Will I mess up and lock myself out of my wallet eventually?
To ensure that doesn't happen, I would suggest you to make more than one copy of your seed phrase and preferably store it at another some secure location (other than the one you are living in) in case you have it.

Is the 24 word recovery seed all I need to store securely? Or do I need the wallet file as well? And do I also need to save my receiving addresses?
Seed phrase is enough. And there's no need to connect Trezor each time you receive Bitcoin when its more convenient to simply save the address instead. Well, at least that's what I am doing with my hardware wallet as I don't wanna go through hassle of getting it out of my secure place, then plugging it in etc every time I have to receive some Bitcoin.

Another thing to think about is contingency plan in case something happens to you, so Bitcoin you have don't go to waste.

2686  Other / Meta / Re: Incentivizing moderation reports with millimerits on: December 04, 2022, 04:17:50 PM
I saw a post by Welsh saying that moderation reports have been in decline and that he misses the days when he woke up to hundreds of reports in his queue. It got me thinking of ways to jump-start it again.
The whole forum activity has been in decline for some time so no surprise that reports are in decline too. Another thing that might pad the stats are reports in altcoin section, which were very popular year ago (due Spambuster of the year award) and without it, majority of members don't have much incentive to report.

The steep carrot/stick ratio is to prevent would-be abusers from gaining any traction.
Make no mistake, whatever can be abused here will be abused, no matter how many reports they have to make in order to get one merit. All this would just burden the mods with extra work and in the end wouldn't really help removing the spam.

Imho, way more elegant solution to make people report more is to introduce some sort of badges for the most active reporters as that's what people asked for repeatedly.

2687  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam by MontPythonn !! on: December 04, 2022, 04:00:16 PM
Can you please make a proper scam report, preferably by using this scam report forum in which you will provide all available evidence (how exactly he scammed you, transaction hash, screenshot of messages etc) because we can't do much based on that one sentence that you wrote.

If this is the member that scammed you, why on earth you thought that it is a good idea to do a business with newbie account who already has several scam accusations?
2688  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fake coingecko site please beware! on: December 03, 2022, 03:51:05 PM
For this phishing site, it's the connecting of wallets which is weird why they (scammer/hacker) designed it like that lol, coz most regular users of coingecko will probably notice why there is a connecting of wallet (metamask or something).
Thing is, their targets are not experienced Metamask/Coingecko users, but newbies who don't really know what they are doing so they might connect MM to Coingecko and approve transaction which will result in money gone. Hell, its pretty common to hear newbies even entering seed phrase in similar scam attempt.

But in reality, even veteran crypto users can make a mistake, all that you need is not paying attention for a few seconds and that's it. I know a guy who lost ~100k by connecting Metamask to a phishing site, and this guy has been in crypto since like 2014, so he was far from a newbie. But, he was in a hurry and wanted to do something quick before going out and ended up losing big chunk of his portfolio.
2689  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: My dad got a Ledger from Best Buy.... on: December 03, 2022, 03:35:09 PM
My dad recently told me he finally got a ledger but not from where I told him to get it from 😅. After speaking with him about the current conditions in the market that he is well aware of I explained to him that even with a major retailer like Best Buy it’s not wise to take ANY chances. He’s returning it and ordering directly from the manufacturer Ledger in Paris now. Can anyone else please confirm my hesitation with the Best Buy purchase?
I had the same worry when I was buying my Ledger, and decided to order it directly from manufacturer and guess what happened? Ledger data got leaked and my email (luckily just that, it could have been worse) ended up being spammed with bunch of scam mails. My point is, there is always a chance that you get screwed when ordering something like hardware wallet so even if ordering directly from them, try to order to one of those mailbox services so even in case of data leak hackers don't get your name.

Can someone tell me what is the currently the ledger wallet that is most secure? If not Ledger then what is the best cold storage wallet in your opinion & what facts do you have to back that up?
I can't really tell you that as there are hundreds of devices on the market, but you might wanna check this topic (it is in Croatian, but you can use Google translate). Personally, if my Ledger Nano S stopped working, I would probably buy again Ledger just because I got used to it and I don't like the change.

2690  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance asking for KYC, again on: December 03, 2022, 03:15:30 PM
I think there is more attention to RU accounts now than to European ones, because there are restrictions on the use of binance on RU users.
Yeah probably that matters too, country of registration.

Now the bear market, this is a normal price, the demand for accounts has fallen, therefore the price has also fallen. So why should they be so expensive now?
Well, that was just an observation from someone (me) who has no idea what's the usual price of a verified account, and somehow I thought that prices of something as sensitive as KYCed exchange account is in the range of hundreds of dollars and not not dozens, like it is the case.

Still, it seems very risky to me to use such account as exchange can ask you to re-KYC at any point and then you got screwed, but I guess those who buy it are ready to take that risk.
2691  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance asking for KYC, again on: December 02, 2022, 09:49:11 PM
So it is, Binance is extremely sensitive to new ip addresses and device changes, as well as to any conversations since support regarding changes to account security data. My account was banned twice in 3 months.
Hm that wasn't really my experience with Binance so far as I usually travel a lot to other countries (and I have to log in to Binance often to move bitcoin from spot wallet to  debit card) and not once in the last few years they asked me for KYC. Well, not until few days ago but that was related to EU regulations.

I think Binance does such frequent user verifications, forcing users to re-KYC, due to the fact that verified accounts can now be bought for $15-20 in OTC telegram groups. Purchasable accounts allow to avoid sanctions, which is what Binance fears the most, as it is constantly under the gun of regulators.
$15-20 for verified account? That seems dirt cheap to me, are you sure that its not just some scammy "too good to be true offer"? And if accounts are that cheap, I am surprised that they don't ask for re-KYC even more often than they are doing it now.
2692  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Binance aml/kyc in the eu on: December 02, 2022, 04:42:22 PM
Is anyone else getting a message when they login in asking for more personal info regarding KYC and AML
What I find most shocking is they want a facial scan as well as a letter with home address
Same here, I've got the same email in which they are asking both ID/passport and facial scan.

Do I need to do it, currently I am not buying btc or other coins on the platform but am day trading
Can I hold it off or what is the story
If you plan to continue trade there then yes, you will have to do it as depositing will be disabled in 10 days and withdrawal in 30. Regarding holding it off , I've got until 29.12 to do it so I guess you got the same deadline as well.

Find another Exchange respecting your privacy.  The world does not stop at Binance.  There are other great Exchanges out there that still do not oblige you to complete Know Your Customer procedures.  If you think that is an overreach, it is and others should not convince you otherwise.
He already did KYC at Binance so there's not much left to give, except the proof of address thing. Questions is, are there any CEX exchanges left where active traders can trade without fear of being asked for their documents? Especially if trader is dealing with bigger amounts.
2693  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is Satoshi a Russian? on: December 02, 2022, 08:06:33 AM
Do you have some stats about that, or could you maybe create special end of the yearly report for all local boards from the time of their creation?
For example you can show what local board was most active in 2014, 2015, 2016 ... right up until 2022.
Yeah something like that could be done as while Merit Dashboard doesn't show post data before December 2017, ninjastic.space does. I will think about it and see if I can come up with something at the end of the year.
2694  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance asking for KYC, again on: December 01, 2022, 05:30:06 PM
The same email we all received. Are you going to comply with the KYC? Honestly, I regret doing so because I don't see a reason to have money stored with them. Their staking and savings platform has taken a huge hit and is no longer profitable. On top of that, it's funny that they're offering a $10 cashback voucher. They don't specify that you don't actually get the $10. Someone new might be fooled by this practice.
Well I already did KYC almost four years ago as I was kinda forced to do it as my mobile phone with 2FA died and I couldn't find recovery code (and I just sent some money there to buy bitcoin) so it was either that or loosing quite decent amount of money and miss opportunity to stock up on cheap bitcoin (at the time it between $3-3.5k).

If you are using them to store your money, then I would say that it is a bad deal to do KYC just because of that. My reason for using them is simple; since I already did KYC, I might as well use their debit card to spend my bitcoin in an easy and convenient way. But even then, I am aware that every time I send bitcoin there is that I may lose it so I only send smaller amounts, no more than I spend in a week or so.

I'm sorry if what I've said is lack of details, I mean all about the asking of the same thing for being KYCed again(2nd time for me) but there's no EU relation to it. It was months ago. And the message that I've read for my compliance was on my account's notification.

Then you probably didn't get that email that has been sent few days ago as they specifically mentioned EU regulation part as the reason for this new KYC.

2695  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is Satoshi a Russian? on: December 01, 2022, 05:15:53 PM
This has made me think that Satoshi is a Russian. I said so because I am a Nigerian. If I am able to develop something like because, I will bring my people in to take early spot and they will also support me when necessary.
If Satoshi thought like you and got his "people early on" to get an early start, I don't think that Bitcoin would become what it is today.

There is no other evidence apart from what I presented above which is not concrete. If I am not correct can somebody explain to me why there are many Russians in the forum?

I wouldn't even call it a evidence, as those charts that I made about most active local boards have no correlation to Satoshi's nationality.

However, I never understood why China and Japan never had any big activity here.
As a matter of fact, Chinese local board used to be among the most active ones and then in the mid 2018 their numbers fell down drastically. Japanese used to be active as well, but around the same time their numbers went down as well.
2696  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance asking for KYC, again on: November 30, 2022, 04:15:43 PM
Anyone else got an email from Binance in the last few days (I got it yesterday), asking for additional KYC in order to comply with the "latest set of European Union regulations"? All those who don't go through KYC won't be able to deposit after 10 days from receiving an email, and after 30 days account will be restricted to withdrawals only.  I heard its a mass emails sent to all Binance users so just wanted to check it out. Andf as walys they are offering 10 BUSD rerward lol, like that will make someone who doesn't want to do KYC change his mind.
2697  Other / Meta / Re: bullrun2020bro - Merit Source Application on: November 30, 2022, 04:06:20 PM
Anyone that follows my brief monthly overview of the local boards activity or checked Merit Dashboard might have noticed that despite being consistently one of the most active local boards, German was nowhere close to the top when it comes to merit/post ratio. Since many of their members are known as quality posters, the only explanation for that is lack of merit sources, so I am glad to see your merit source application and I would add: its about time!

I have no idea if it means anything, but I support this application and hopefully it gets approved soon and good luck @bullrun2020bro!
2698  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: November 30, 2022, 03:58:58 PM

Cyrus saw your post and he is working out something about it
Is that just your speculation that Cyrus is working on it, or there's actually some development (haven't been online for a couple of days so maybe I missed something)?

For you wanting only your wife, you are a good and faithful man. Congratulations!
Its more about not being willing to handle x2 nagging. Cheesy
2699  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Another One Bites The Dust - BitFront Is Shutting Down Operations. on: November 29, 2022, 09:54:39 PM
Can't say that I ever heard about this Bitfront exchange before, but not surprised that many of this small to medium exchanges are/will shutting doors in the upcoming months. Well, I guess better to shut it up down like this and allow people getting there money our instead dragging on for months and ending up declaring bankruptcy like we've been seeing lately.

2700  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: November 23, 2022, 03:46:39 PM
Users like Abutaleb628 (882 Activity) or Semar Mesem (1148 Activity) have no business voting.

why do you think so?
Have you bothered to check their post history? Its literally full of bounty reports and a  barely anything else else. Members like those two don't have any interest  being part of this community, their only goal is to leech off this forum via bounty campaigns and that's about it. So if they don't want to be part of this community, why should they be able to vote in this community event?

Even now I ran into one legendary member who has only 5 merits and his posts are not that bad. But to avoid arguments and pointing anyone out so as not to make it look like am mentioning their case I will let this issue go. This user is in a well paying campaign. You would not say he is a shit poster
Being in a well paid campaign doesn't mean that you are not shitposter as currently there's more spots in campaigns than quality members, which gives a chance to even shitposters to earn bitcoin.
