2881  Other / Meta / Re: BitcoIntalk phishing PM! Warning! on: June 07, 2015, 10:42:31 PM
This phishing website is similar to the one that appeared a while back, when the forum was offline, asking for "donations". Some smart guy is trying to steal accounts...

I hope the guy is traceable and that theymos can do something about this. I bet this is why we've been having a lot of spam and malware linked around.
2882  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Deterministic wallet compatibility matrix on: June 07, 2015, 08:37:08 PM
Thank you for making this list. I looked for something similar for quite some time, only to fail in finding it.

Smiley Welcome.

In the mnemonic-compatible tab it says there is no compatibility between breadwallet and MultiBit HD, which is not correct

Is it not being calculated correctly for you (it's a formula cell)? Are you looking in the wrong place maybe? Here's what it looks like for me:

On another note, sad to see that Electrum is pretty much incompatible with everything else...

Perhaps you already know this, but it was an intentional trade-off made by the Electrum dev: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1082586.0, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=939337.msg10366268#msg10366268

On the positive side, Electrum 2.x does have some xpub (watching-only) compatibility with other wallets, and it's the only wallet to have xprv compatibility with any other.

Excuse me for my mistake, it looks like it was indeed an error in the browser I was using, it works fine offline and on Chrome.

As for Electrum, I knew it was intentional... but never read the post you linked, thanks for that Smiley Keep it up with the spreasheet
2883  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Theory] Hal Finney & Satoshi Nakamoto created bitcoin on: June 07, 2015, 08:24:01 PM
Both indeed created Bitcoin... Satoshi gave the idea and Hal was interested in it, so they developed it, thus creating the Bitcoin we know today Grin

What's new here? Smiley
2884  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is sex selling bitcoin? on: June 07, 2015, 07:57:07 PM
Given the amount of interest these girls gathered in the last few months, I'd say that sex is being sold with Bitcoin, and not an awful lot is being sold anyways Grin

Indeed. At least they have found a way to make something completely technical appealing although I doubt anyway is turning the sound on rather than just watching...

That's true... Smiley

Maybe next step is a plot on a porn movie where the guy pays for an "escort" with Bitcoin? Grin

Any videos containing hot girls showing some skin will get tons of views guaranteed, nothing new. What would matter is how much % of the people that visit it are going to actually look into Bitcoin and not only the girl and continue browsing the internet.

They're aren't getting that many views... Or that many donations, for that matter, lol
2885  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Deterministic wallet compatibility matrix on: June 07, 2015, 04:55:57 PM
Thank you for making this list. I looked for something similar for quite some time, only to fail in finding it.

In the mnemonic-compatible tab it says there is no compatibility between breadwallet and MultiBit HD, which is not correct: I've successfully imported a seed from breadwallet in MultiBit HD. I needed to import it because I was looking to sign a message from one of the addresses in my seed (breadwallet doesn't have that functionality), and I managed to sign the message through MultiBit HD.

On another note, sad to see that Electrum is pretty much incompatible with everything else... I thought these new BIP standards (especially BIP 39) would help to unify seed usage throughout wallets... But that doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe a new, more universal standard should kick in? Smiley
2886  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another banker moves to the land of crypto! Howard Bernstein CCO of Meeriman Cap on: June 07, 2015, 04:43:12 PM
I've read somewhere on their website about this guy joining them... What's in it for customers? How will he help improve Kraken? Is it going to make a difference for the end user?

Perhaps insured deposits? This guy works in compliance and plans to try to keep Kraken up-to-date on regulations. You can't be insured unless your company is compliant.

Insurance is definitely good, but that would probably make it harder to get verified (more documents/info needed). And as far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't trade the current usability and efficiency of the verification process for insurance. I hope he doesn't mess Kraken up... Let's see where this goes.

There's also bacchusent.com, which I think is the first and only Bitcoin-based porn site that was publicized on Reddit a while back... If folks are making profit selling porn with Bitcoin it is probably this website... and I don't really think they're making that much (although there are no numbers publicized).

It's still pretty early for this industry and Bitcoin. Eventually there will be a bigger connection.
2888  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Welcome to Bitcoin's Boring Era on: June 07, 2015, 04:31:43 PM
I guess people got used to drama surrounding bitcoin every week, so now when price doesn't jump too much , and there is not as much drama with hack and thefts; people are bored i guess.
But you know what they say, theres always calm before the storm, or did you think that they will be yelling : buy before the halving and profit with us !

cheers

Not cool when people are "drama queens"

Thefts and "drama" happen everyday with fiat, and I don't see these guys saying anything about that. I hope these kinds of "outsiders" never buy Bitcoin (therefore no profit whatsoever in any halving).

2890  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Satoshi was revealed to be Charles Manson on: June 07, 2015, 03:36:18 PM
It would be irrelevant if an evil entity was responsible for creating Bitcoin... I assume that if he was evil, he became the opposite while creating Bitcoin.

Independently of who or how was the person who created it, the idea is out, and will live on... So even Satoshi himself is quite irrelevant at this point (although I'd love to know who he is, obviously)
2891  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Welcome to Bitcoin's Boring Era on: June 07, 2015, 03:29:01 PM
These guys saying that Bitcoin is boring definitely don't understand what it's about. They only have eyes for fiat, and since Bitcoin is too much of a risky terrain for them to have a profit, they disregard it.

After reading the OP, I definitely don't want to read this guy's book...
2892  Other / Meta / Re: User creating massive amounts of referral spam - EmpoEX on: June 06, 2015, 10:01:35 PM
It seems we have been having a big surge of spammers in the last few hours. I hope the mods have the time to take care of all that, it's big work sometimes... I'm helping anytime I can by reporting, keep it up, mods Smiley
2893  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Share a local Blockchain possible ? on: June 06, 2015, 09:54:36 PM
Two cores can run on the same data, if they're not on at the same time. If your NAS is setup in a way that it appears as a drive letter on your computers, you can use the datadir command to set a directory for Bitcoin files.

And yes, you can run a node on a Raspberry Pi 2.
2894  Economy / Goods / Re: What watches do people want? on: June 06, 2015, 02:16:02 PM
I wish you guys a lot of success selling with Bitcoin, but I don't see much market for you around here Smiley

If you want to sell such watches here you might as well order a Apple Watch Edition, maybe someone around here could be interested Grin
2895  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why would miners change to 20MB blocks if they are geting revenues from fees ? on: June 06, 2015, 01:15:22 PM
Can miners change the block size from current software without updating to new version if the all agree on block size ?

There isn't any easy way for miners to just change the size above 1MB, so a update is needed
2896  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NYC man robbed of bitcoins on: June 06, 2015, 01:13:49 PM
Not sure if this story is fake, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it is true...

People should be more careful, as Bitcoin is the new target for theifs
2897  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why would miners change to 20MB blocks if they are geting revenues from fees ? on: June 06, 2015, 01:00:40 PM
As has been pointed out in so many of these topics Gavin is no longer suggesting 20MB but instead 4MB or 8MB (but carry on regardless).

Whatever floats their boat is good for Bitcoin, we really need the block size increase Smiley
2898  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why would miners change to 20MB blocks if they are geting revenues from fees ? on: June 06, 2015, 12:31:49 PM
The key here aren't the fees... Let's take your line of thought: would you risk the stability of the entire network just for fees?

If you're worried about fees, think like this: if/when the network gets saturated enough, you'll have many transactions and thus earn more from fees... Smiley
2899  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Anyone heard of hashingminer.com? on: June 05, 2015, 01:15:20 PM
Probably not recommended... Let's see if someone takes a shot at buying there and leaves feedback.
2900  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which comes first: Halving or max transactions exceeded? on: June 05, 2015, 01:10:10 PM
Halving will come first, definitely... IF we solve the block size issue ASAP
