It's like it says. You've got to have at least a letter.

Survey looks good but it's not really clear where these results are going to, what's the big theme of your thesis? University name? Are we going to see results here on the forums?

They just sit idle, most of the time, in a cold storage... I'm not good in trading and I don't really invest coins I'm saving. I then have some coins online for shopping or for other things if i need them.

I guess there goes the argument of "Bitcoin is too volatile..."

Are these real or faked blocks? Can XTnodes now distinguish between both?
Probably fake. Nobody wants to be the first to bother with the risky shoehorning of XT's eccentricities into their working existing infrastructure. It's the Toomim Bros apparently. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=18313.msg12585908#msg12585908I once considered using their hosting services. No longer. Apparently the blocks weren't tagged as BIP101, as per the following post on that thread. Not sure what to believe anymore, and still not sure if XTnodes can identify legit information from faked information. Anyways, 7 blocks is definitely not an upsurge, so even if it's real support, it's not that much. But look like its not, even if it found a 8th block, allegedly. Overall average is now dropping because the last 1000 is moving on and the information doesn't seem very substantiated anyways. Block train says the version report is correct; https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC/block/376992But what does that even mean. Nothing really, with numbers this small. Too bad miners that support the BIP are only showing that on their coinbase and aren't really mining blocks to support their intentions. I was expecting people who want a change and are able to push a change to really back up their sayings.

But we already have satoshi, bits, mbits, etc. Why do we need more name?
Exactly... It will just add to the confusion. And why match ourselves with gold?

GPU miners eventually moved to ASIC's... Mining centralization on Chinese lands is a bit of "a knife with two edges" topic. They might some day even have the majority of the hashrate, but what would cost them more? Control Bitcoin in the direction they want or keep it going as it is, a network free for all to use? They have a lot to lose if they try to make double spends or "hijack" Bitcoin in some way. They risk being left alone on their own Bitcoin fork, or something like that, which would definitely not be beneficial to them.
As for the second scenario, if a chip maker restricted exports, someone locally would buy the chips and export them for huge profit. So I don't see that as being a possibility.
Difficulty will rise and decrease, and many people will be pushed in and out of mining. That's how it's been so far and I don't really see it changing.
What worries me is indeed a war or a natural disaster, as the OP refers to... What if a big portion of the network has to suddenly shutdown their facilities and move their miners? Will the network be strong enough in the meantime to avoid attacks? Will we have 10 minute blocks? I hope one day the blockchain gets so much hash that one big facility shutting down won't bother anyone or anything (maybe we're already on that point, who knows...)

A few blocks have been mined lately, as per XTnodes, but I'm not sure they are now able to distinguish fake support from real support.

Amazed to know that bitcointalk basically fits and a super cheap usb stick...

Seems pretty good, never heard of it I'd definitely like to try it. How's the QR code decryption accuracy? Would you be able to share a video of it working?

Another algorithm would require a fork, and it's unlikely it will be adopted (Scrypt and many others came, and Bitcoin did not switch)
As for newer tech, that's been happening from time to time: bigger and better ASIC's

The forum has been responding quite nicely lately, comparing to what it was a few months prior. Maybe something on your connection?

I've read the part where the ban occurs. There doesn't seem to be name calling or situations incorrectly handled or people insulted, it was a pretty normal discussion. I don't think it's the first time I see #bitcoin-dev logs not entirely related to development. I respect that in a dev channel, only development discussion should take place but I don't think the ban was beneficial to the channel. The channel should be named Bitcoin-main or something like that, or both channels can co-exist (which would fragment discussions too much in my opinion) They will eventually allow him back. EDIT: 11:17:13 [freenode] -!- hearn [~mike@84-75-195-4.dclient.hispeed.ch] He isn't banned, at least not on that host. Maybe temp ban/kick? Or unbanned again?

When you mean load a new network, you are referring to changing server? Choose a server manually and see if any works. When in doubt, reinstall and recover with your seed or take your seed to another computer.

They have this referring to alternatives, and on Bitcoin I honestly don't know more than what's on their website. The best alternative would be, I think, tipping directly with an address It's not hard to setup a web wallet or a mobile wallet for starters, nowadays

Profitable if you're lucky and have time to constantly check on altcoins... It's a bit like normal mining, there's risk involved, proportional to how much you go in.

Didn't quite understand your question, but you can format to whatever you want basically. just go with either NTFS if on Windows or ext4 if on Ubuntu or similar.

Maybe they're referring to this altcoin? If yes, then I don't really know anything about it, it just seems another altcoin... That being said, this isn't the altcoin forum
