501  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Republic of Suriname is considering a national strategy with BTC on: December 25, 2023, 07:01:49 PM
I imagine Countries all over the world adopting a national strategy with BTC,
I don't see that happening anytime soon or ever.

On the part of the citizens; adoption of Bitcoin does not benefit the economy, neither does it help with creating an enabling environment for businesses to function. They can access it without it being a legal tender and with more freedom.

With governments is basically the same thing, they do not better their economy by adopting Bitcoin and it will always remain a secondary means of processing payments.

Adoption slightly helps Bitcoin with gaining acceptance, but that has a threshold to which it can be beneficial.
502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Share your Bitcoin spendings here on: December 25, 2023, 06:40:19 PM
Now don't get me wrong.sharing your Bitcoin spendings isn't much of a bad idea
Except that it actually is much of a bad idea.

Bitcoin is pseudoanonymous for a reason, while the public can access the blockchain which contains a record of every already complete transaction, they cannot fix a personality to the different transactions to know who is spending what. To further blur that trail users can utilize coinjoining and mixing options. It is counter productive to publicly discuss what you are spending on with Bitcoin.
503  Economy / Reputation / Re: GazetaBitcoin and his shenanigans. on: December 24, 2023, 07:08:26 PM
If you are worried that what you send to someone might be published, maybe you shouldn't send it? I
In this instance you can't know who will and will not publish a private message, you just trust that experienced members will know better and will keep discussions private, between the parties involved in it.

There are some instances where publishing a pm would be considered ok, but that's usually going to involve outing a scammer.
This will not still count as proof enough cause the public cannot verify the content of the private message.
504  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You only got what you deserve on: December 24, 2023, 12:08:33 PM
I agree with this. As long as you take the effort to understand the ropes, you will be able to swing around somewhat safely.

This does not apply only to Bitcoin either, failing to understand how anything works fully and jumping into investing in it will most likely end up in a loss. Invest in gaining knowledge as the first step and the next steps will be much easier to make.

Where I will differ with the op is that some people cannot readily get the right source of information despite their willingness to understand how something works.
505  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies how to use the 2FA security system in the account? on: December 24, 2023, 11:55:40 AM
Still I can bet that most use 2FA software on the same device as the websites/apps needing 2FA for authentication (hence still pretty much one single point of failure, hence doing it wrong).
Ideally it should be done on different devices but having them on the same device does not defeat the purpose of it. For example it can protect against a leak of your password, cause the attacker will still need your 2FA code to get into your account.
Not all breaches results in total security break on the device, so it has its perks.

I think that having a bitcoin address staked in the proper place in the forum (and obviously, keeping its seed/private key really safe) is the correct move. All the rest, including this 2FA, is just some nice additions.
Staking your address helps to recover your account after a hack, it does not protect you from one or the consequences.
506  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcointalk vs. YouTube from an educational viewpoint on: December 23, 2023, 06:30:05 PM
OP your post is very long. Old members maybe skip to read your content. I would advise you to keep your content short and to the point to attract reader. In two paragraphs you could explain your full thread content. I appreciate your work on the thread as it written bybm yourself. Keep it up..
Old members have no issue reading long and detailed posts of the content is educative and interesting enough. This is a forum and reading paragraphs is essential to the communication process.

If a message can be passed in 2 lines then do not add fillers to make the post more readable, it doesn't add anything more educative for the reader. But if you need multiple paragraphs to pass your message, use that.
507  Economy / Exchanges / Re: PSA: Vulnerability found in OKX iOS app on: December 19, 2023, 08:45:39 PM
Yet another reason to not use centralized exchange as a wallet to store funds.

They are custodian and can have vulnerabilities you cannot help against, leading to loss of funds.
508  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Funds withdrawn from Stake without 2FA. on: December 19, 2023, 08:40:49 PM
The only dilemma I am having right now is even if someone have cracked my email and password and logged in, Still Stake asks for 2FA while withdrawing.
How did they passed that..?
We do not have access to the behind the scenes, so cannot determine how there was a breach of the website. You can only get that response directly from a representative of Stake.

Isolated cases like this are not uncommon with crypto related websites, it could be due to a hack or  you allowing someone else access to where you keep valuable information.

If you do not get a substantial answer after a few days, then you can try calling then out on other websites they are active on.
509  Economy / Economics / Re: Are fast-fashion shopping apps hurting local economy? on: December 19, 2023, 08:18:52 PM
Do you believe that their ridiculously low prices could be hurting the local economy, and why?
They form a huge part of the local economy, both in the country of origin and the destinations. It has one of the largest community of online shoppers and buyers offering a wide range of products with different qualities, exactly similar to any online shop which is available, except one was produced using very cheap (and possibly exploited) labour.

Have you purchased from them?
One or twice. Was an okay experience.
510  Economy / Economics / Re: Currency is Passé on: December 19, 2023, 08:09:04 PM
To further underline the simplicity of this, the infinite set of prime chains discovered on Primecoin mitigates market bubbles that exist on fixed sets of limited supply, such as in all Bitcoin and Ethereum applications which will eventually depend on transaction fees in order to survive.
Bitcoin and ethereum operates very differently from one another. Bitcoins supply is limited and pre determined, the supply of ethereum is infinite.

Why is this important?
Because exchanges are redundant when miners trade directly with other participants.
Miners are not sufficient to meet the entire market demand.
511  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will the transaction fee will high if I send small amount under $50 on: December 19, 2023, 04:54:48 AM
Will the transaction fee will high if I send small amount under $50
If you received the $50 in 25 seperate transactions of $2 each, the fees on the transaction will be higher than someone sending $100,000 which was received in a single transaction.

The network does not recognize dollar equivalent of bitcoins, only separate transactions which form inputs. The higher the number of inputs the larger the fee.

Whenever the network is congested and the fees for transaction is $42, that is what you will pay for the transaction amount. The network congestion is one of the factors responsible for a high transaction fee. The two ways to minimize the transaction fees are to wait for the times when there will be lower network congestion or use another cryptocurrency.
Fee is not an accurate way to explain this. There is no universal fee paid on transactions at any time, what miners set is the feerate.
This for example can be $10/vbyte (it's normally calculated in sats/vbyte). If my transaction has a bigger size (vbytes), then I'll pay higher.
512  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What factors influence the price of Bitcoin? on: December 18, 2023, 06:46:37 PM
This programmed scarcity is designed to mimic the scarcity of precious metals such as gold, adding to Bitcoins appeal as digital gold among investors.
There's no theory to support that the halving was added to mimick scarcity of precious metals.
Many precious metals are not even scarce at all; they can have supply shocks at anytime with uneven distribution, and many of them can be chemically produced with the same quality of the original.
513  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin market is like other markets, has its cycle. Focus on its cycle! on: December 18, 2023, 06:43:54 PM
So what you're trying to say is that no matter the dumb Btc undergoes. The pump percentage will always dominate the dumb, I'm still finding hard to understand the  cycle thing.
First point to note is that last events are not always indicative of future actions. There's no guarantee on what will happen during the next cycle and the one after that and ten or twenty more down the road, the only thing that's certain is the protocol.

Cycles are pretty much easy to understand and need not be complicated;

• Halving creates scarcity,
• This scarcity reduces supply against demand, increasing the price,
• The Price increase causes Fomo and even more demand,
• This continues till the price hits a ceiling and needs to undergo a correction,
• Investors panic sell to avoid losing out,
• This causes fud and the market continues to tank considerably till we hit the support,
• and repeat...

In-between these periods the price goes up and down based on so many other factors.
514  Other / Meta / Re: An empty OP of a pinned thread in Archival? on: December 18, 2023, 10:59:49 AM
When a sticky topic is moved to another place, it retains its sticky status in the place where it was moved to. This topic was sticky in the Russian section, so when Ratimov moved it, it remained sticky in the new place.
This seems counter productive.

The stickie feature should only be allowed on the board it was stickied in and if moved around it should lose that feature, same way self moderates threads are no longer self moded when they are moved to a board that doesn't support it.
515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ordinal blockchain irking me, causing almost $40 median fee now... on: December 16, 2023, 08:00:25 PM
It's a pain, but the only option is to wait. Consolidating multiple small inputs have been impossible impractical since October and looms to remain so for sometime more. It's ridiculous the amount of fees paid on regular transactions, much less one with lots of inputs.

If you're in a hurry, try using a transaction accelerator and a lower fee (above the minimum for the mempool now).
516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 20,000 btc moved on: December 16, 2023, 07:31:04 PM
Hey
Breaking
20,0000 moved from unknown wallet to coinbase
I just also moved my screw driver back into the tool box

Exactly, no one cares.
517  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Risk only what you can afford to lose on: December 10, 2023, 04:51:45 PM
Do not scan QR code you find online, only scan when paying to another crypto wallet or you want to sell your BTC on an exchange, QR codes can come with malicious things too.
In a proper airgapped wallet you should not be scanning any QR codes not related to a transaction detail, when switching from a watch only to the wallet for signing the transaction. You should not even be sending out from the wallet cause it should be a cold wallet.

100% security exists technically, but is difficult to attain, but we should try to get as close as possible.
518  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I’m a newbie here on: December 09, 2023, 06:34:55 PM
Thanks but I’ll like to ask if this platform is all about bitcoins and it’s advantages, uses to us and it’s help financially
The platform is primarily made to discuss the different aspects of Bitcoin, as you can see from the name, but there are other sections of the forum such as discussing economic situations, politics, technological development, selling goods and services, and even a section for altcoins.

You. An discuss preety much any topic which is available.
519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Aren't I still paying the same transaction fee with Lightning to open a channel? on: December 08, 2023, 02:16:59 PM
So basically Lightning is impractical for a small one time purchase, which makes switching over to cryptocurrency note expensive than dealing with fiat  Embarrassed
I don't know how you reached the last assumption. LN is not practical for a single small transaction when you factor in feesbto open and close the channel, but it's very practical for use over several months.

When compared to fiat you have to check other factors which affects the price of Bitcoin transactions.
520  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Alternative source to invest in the Bitcoin since the price gone scarily high on: December 08, 2023, 02:12:01 PM
Thank you maybe preferably to say an " Alternative source to funds and accumulating more of Bitcoins to my Bitcoin investment goals since the price has gone scarily high"
Alternate gives the impression that it's a different source of income, but it doesn't apply to your story. This is the exact same source of income just being received through a different payment channel.
