Do you guys know if any other exchanges are planning to add XMR any time soon?

It was #1 on cryptsy voting for quite some time last summer/fall, even before they allowed paid votes for XMR. they acknowledged to add it at some point.

Not sure why they have not added, tbh. Perhaps they are waiting for the "official" database release.

Interesting find on that timeline from 2006! (Plural of Mongoose = Variety Jones)

Quote
In an article from High Times magazine dated July 2006, the journalist Chris Bennett, who covered at the time the overgrow arrests, gives an interesting description of the "megabyte megalomaniac" Plural of Mongoose:

PoM was like a puppet master, and it was eerily intriguing watching him pull the strings on the forums that made people dance in the real world: Business transactions fell apart, people retired nicknames and dropped from view, court dates came and went - but when the chance arose to interview PoM, I decided to pass. By that time, I had it from a reliable source that PoM deposited things on people's PCs via e-mail that gave him access to their personal desktops and files.

544  Other / Off-topic / Wallet Recommendations (fiat not crypto) on: April 26, 2015, 10:51:12 PM
I've been using a clear plastic wallet I got from Daiso for the past year and it's starting to get embarrassing. Anybody have a cool wallet they recommend?

I like smaller wallets that I can fit in my front pocket, just enough to hold a few cards and maybe some paper money.

Bonus if cool features like RFID blocking tech.
545  Other / Off-topic / Re: Please Help - Ransomware has stolen my files and I need to pay in BitCoins on: April 26, 2015, 05:58:16 PM
OP: have you tried Coinbase? They have an "instant-buy" option if you verify your account with a Visa or Mastercard credit card (along with verifying your bank account).

I'm not sure how long the verification process takes as its been awhile since I did it. If you don't do the instant buy method, the turnaround time for receiving BTC is 4 business days.

As others have said, it is difficult to buy bitcoins with your preferred payment methods (paypal, MC) as they are reversible, bitcoin is not.

I had to Google "Esperanto," I had honestly never heard of it. I would suggest Latin as a universal foreign language, although it's certainly not an original idea. Esperanto would be an original idea for a physical crypto coin, so I think if that's what you're trying to do- go for it. I also think you should definitely have "1 Troy Oz .999 Fine Silver" stamped on the pure silver coins as suggested above. Pure silver coins, rounds, bars, etc. should always have their assay information stamped on it somewhere. This way, if Monero ever crashed and became totally worthless (I'm not saying this will or won't happen), the owners of these coins would still be able to sell them for their Silver content, and it would be slightly easier for them to do so if it were stamped. However, whoever buys it from them will still probably want to test it first anyways, because these aren't universally known Silver rounds like American Silver Eagles. I think stamping that info. on the rim of the coin would be cool as OP suggested.

Esperanto is relevant to Monero because Monero means "currency" in esperanto.

Thanks for the support. If others are also feeling the same way, it must mean that we are getting close to the point where nobody sells anymore coins (unless they do so for a loss, which is unfortunate but also possible).

548  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 22, 2015, 09:07:26 PM
I have to confess I have been selling some of my stash over the past few days.

Why? Huh Because I had about >95% of my total worth in XMR, which I know is an insane proportion. I still have a comfortable amount of XMR. I held for so long at a loss during last August-December, never selling a single XMR and buying more instead. I can't endure that again, so the opportunity to temporarily exit some of my position while I'm still above water is why.

I am about to attend a coding bootcamp for 18 weeks and will have no income during this time, so I can't take that much risk. Anyway, I will be seeking to apply knowledge as a developer and I plan to contribute more in the future beyond just buying & using XMR.

Why did I post this? So you know it's not some botnet miner dumping coins. Just life happening to someone that is very enthusiastic about Monero. Carry on.  Cheesy

Edit: For reference, I am done selling XMR. Doesn't matter where the price goes, I hold what I have now.

My very first XMR transaction of any sort, thank you for the honor!

You're welcome, I hope you enjoy the coffee! You can expect it to arrive on Wednesday.

Anybody else interested some premium coffee beans for XMR?

@saddambitcoin, @myagui, thank you for your replys. It turned out I did make a new address at mymonero. I guess I'll have to take a better care of my stash. Is there an exponential term for Ambarresed? I'm getting old....

No need to be embarrassed, so you recovered all the funds?
552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: April 19, 2015, 08:40:41 PM
Hi, guys, need a little help here...or even big one for that matter.
On early march I sent some xmr from Polo to mymonero wallet. I did it before with great success. I was probably among the first to use it since I'm not familiar with command line etc.
Today I loged in to my account, I paid 10xmr for blockchain to sync and it seems it is updated. However, two trx from early march are missing.
I checked again at Polo and it seems I sent xmr to a different address as I usually did. How that happend? No idea, but the address was correct since the tx went throuhg. I only have one address at Mymonero.

I would like to skip the part how I feel right now and what you think of me...so the question is: is there a way to.....do anything at all? Did anyone got any xmr into his wallet and have no idea where did it came from?

I can provide all the details but the way I see it this aint gonna end pretty for me Sad

Your original MyMonero wallet from March - was it created by MyMonero? If so, then you should not have had to pay 10 XMR fee. It sounds like you are loading a simplewallet generated seed because that is what the 10 xmr import fee is for.

Is it possible you have written another wallet seed somewhere?

Woohoo I found my French press at my sister's! I'm still interested whenever it's convenient, possibly with maybe another type of coffee too. Any you might recommend?

Just let me know when you're going to Chicago for another pickup.

Right now I have these in stock: (4) Colombia Nariņo, (1) Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Gedeo, (1) Kenya Nyeri Ndia-Ini.

1 bag = $18
2 bags = $30

Price includes USPS priority shipping. Order over the weekend and I'll ship out first thing on Monday.

My daily coffee is the Colombia Nariņo, nice full bodied coffee.

I plan to move from the US permanently after the next BTC bubble, live in Japan and work in a sake brewery in the winter time. I already did it in 2014 but for only 1 month. The pay is not much and the work is hard, but you get to drink excellent sake on demand, stay in good shape, and enjoy the satisfaction of helping create a quality product.

Wish me luck  Wink

Probably the best way to strengthen the network would be to provide content on:
http://getmonero.org/knowledge-base/user-guides/

To contribute, just fork https://github.com/monero-project/monero-site and make a pull request?

Would this also work on a RPi B+?

No the ubuntu distro he is using is only for pi 2.

It can be made to work and the static build has been compiled for a b+ but the instructions will be somewhat different.

Hilux, I first tried building on Raspbian but I had problems easily installing the most recent Boost libraries. Hence the switch to Ubuntu.

One thing though.... I tested the Berkeley DB implementation on my laptop and on a VPS, and it was taking ages to sync. Let me knows how it works out for you on the Raspberry Pi.

Hopefully LMDB issues for RPi will be fixed soon.

Yes, Berkeley database is slow. I think it's going to take about 4 days to sync fully.

559  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB] BP gas cards on: April 15, 2015, 08:04:24 PM
Thanks guys. Already put in a PM to Razick, wasn't sure if he was still active since his thread is locked.

Gyft and egifter do not sell gas cards.

It's frustrating, you would think by 2015 we would be able to buy gas with bitcoin now.

Is there anyone selling gas cards for BP?
