581  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nowhere is safe part 2 on: December 21, 2023, 10:26:48 PM
I remembered when I posted this some time ago and some people kept saying to be safer you need to be on an off/hard wallet.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5469814.msg62971784#msg62971784

And here, I talk about Hacks that happened both in Cex and Dex
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5471139.msg63031458#msg63031458

I said it, if we are in this cryptocurrency ecosystem, our first safety comes from us. No matter what you want to use, there are times when what we believe is the safest won't be the safest. In my post in that link above, I talked about navigating how to be at least 60-80% safe with your assets.

I just got this news that some users lost over $600k from hackers on their Ledger wallet.

https://www.dlnews.com/articles/defi/a-ledger-employee-got-phished-defi-users-lost-thousands/?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=organic_social&utm_campaign=

Well first off steer clear of any exchanges to store any coins obviously.  But in terms of safety it's real easy.  Air gapped computer, gen up a cold wallet or even paper wallet.  Throughly wipe the computer and bam ypu have yourself a safe wallet that can't be hacked.  I don't think it's as hard as people are making it.  Problem really lies with people taking the easy way out and not learning crypto storage safety it's not really hard at all.
582  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: December 21, 2023, 10:22:53 PM
Joel Embiid really went off yesterday. Scoring 51 points against a team with the best record in the NBA and likely defensive player of the year. I’m actually impressed. I was thinking it would go the other way and Embiid would struggle and his team would lose. That was one of those games people get reminded about when the MVP voting starts.

I think I can say that Joel Embiid actually single-handedly was able to win them the match.  Of course, he had support from another player, Maxey.  However dropping 51 points in a single match is definitely something to appreciate.  Well, it is pretty sure that if he actually did struggle,  his team would have lost. But of course the opposite happened. He was able to score and his team was able to win without any problem, to be honest. The team definitely got the win because of him.

I wasn't all in on embid getting mvp but he is playing with a chip on his shoulder it seems.  Dude is having the best year of his career and NO ONE can stop him.  What a great move shedding Harden from this team.  So long as embid is healthy they will certainly contend for the Eastern Conference Champs at a minimum. Very early on but dude looks different this year.
583  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What's your view on this? Is it fun or addiction? on: December 21, 2023, 10:20:23 PM
Just one stop away from generational wealth lol.  That is the worst kind of advertising no matter the level of truth about it.  It pulls at every gambling string an addict has.  I don't know what it's for but Id say steer clear of any groups that pump this nonsense and are serious about it.

Saw this and thought it was hilarious!

Quote
The Giants are mathematically alive for both the playoffs and the No. 2 overall pick in the draft.

@ChiBitCTy, you should shrink images when quoting them.

Yeah that is kind of wild.  I mean both are so far fetched but this late in the year the fact that both are possible is exactly what the nfl wanted by adding that third wildcard to each side.  My guess is they miss the playoffs and are somewhere between 7-9 in draft seeding.  Far enough away to make trading up for a qb too costly.  They go OL or WR in the draft.  WR would be a terrible pick but that's well...what the giants do.
585  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which one is fun, watching with bet or without a bet? on: December 20, 2023, 11:12:50 PM
Just trying to get the communities opinion based on their experience about the topic.

Personally, a a bettor, I find it very stressful when watching the game you are betting especially if it will end up a losing bet.

If we have the same experience, how do you cope up with that problem, after all, gambling should be fun but why we have this kind of feeling that we feel disappointed when our bet loses?

If you can't watch the game you are betting on then it's time to stop betting on those sports.  Gambling should be fun and at the point that it's not you should look for something else to do.  I always say to myself once I can't deal with the loss it's time to stop and bet on something else or reduce my bet a little to where I can watch.
586  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When #Bitcoin goes up to $200,000, what do you think the #decred will be? on: December 20, 2023, 11:05:07 PM
How many of you remember $dcr #DECRED HuhHuh Smiley

That name brings up memories but I don't think a nice bitcoin run will do anything for decred.   Haven't followed it in awhile but I think that's another coin that will end up in the graveyard.  Bitcoin runs only affect alt pumps for coins that have an active community and volume on exchanges.
587  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is Michael Jordan a gambling addict ? on: December 20, 2023, 11:01:58 PM
Real story I was at balls in Atlantic city playing blackjack one day with my friends.  Dealer mid hand told us to turn around which I thought was weird but low and behold jordan was about 10 feet behind us getting ready to go into the VIP room.  Dealer told us everyrime he came in the play the 76ers or the Nets he would come in and play in the VIP room all night.  Wish I knew I would take the under on his point total those games! Lol.  Was a lot taller than I pictured
588  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: December 20, 2023, 10:56:52 PM
Poll Question: First team to get 20 wins?
Celtics - 10 (50%)
Magic - 4 (20%)
Bucks - 1 (5%)
Sixers - 0 (0%)
Timberwolves - 3 (15%)
Nuggets - 0 (0%)
Mavericks - 0 (0%)
Thunder - 2 (10%)

Total Voters: 20

Half of the voters guessed it right! Boston Celtics is the first team to get 20 wins.
Do you have any idea for new poll? Let me know so I can change it. For now I'm going to change it to first 30 wins.
It may change this time because Bucks and Timberwolves are going great as well.

Change it up to best record at the all star break.  That's a key point in the season everyone is driving to.  With that being said Memphis is waayyy behind but with Ja back they just look like they got theor swagger back.  I expect them to make moves through the western conference.
589  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Craze for Meme coins never ends? on: December 19, 2023, 10:59:30 PM
It will soon end just like any other fad.  These coins and tokens provide no purpose other than to enrich its creators and their very small inner circle.  Most times people buy in and just become exit liquidity for "the team".  Ask yourself this before you buy in, are they solving a problem where this is needed.  If not than you can almost guarantee at some point it will become worthless.  That timeline is the million dollar question.
590  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Trend or long term projects? on: December 19, 2023, 10:57:15 PM
Crypto is mostly unexpected and we don't know which token will give us high profit. sometimes we expect a big pump in the token and we believe that this project has a lot of potential but this token performance remains low throughout bull and bear season just like DOT and Cardano while some coins we often called them scam and spam pumped hard like ORDI, Pepe, Floki. It's all about trend when trend end then no one want to buy these coins.

What is your suggestions about profit from altcoins. Should we rely on only buying long term projects or we should invest according to trend despite of looking that trends coin will have no value in future?

I don't think there is a good answer for this other than in the long term pick projects that have value, dollar cost average in and increase your stack steadily so long as it shows promise.  Trends usually bring along the scammers and empty promises.  I like to stay away from these but if you do go in on them make sure you are ready to hop out and don't get stuck with a bag.
591  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you remember when Twitch banned gambling? Now they allow nudity! on: December 19, 2023, 10:47:52 PM
Very easy, sex is very profitable.  Companies tend to look the other way when something becomes highly profitable for them.  Engagement on gambling probably didn't net them more views whereas nudity will.  Not that I agree with it but that's how capitalism usually works.  As long as there is money in it, it will be allowed
592  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: December 19, 2023, 10:46:04 PM
Many here are talking about the Warriors and other teams, but no one is talking about how the Clippers are playing right now.
Why is that?

I mean they just won against one of the best offensive teams right now in the league Indiana Pacers, and they're currently on an 8 game winning streak. They have a record of 13-2 in their last 15 games, and right now, they are in the top 5 in terms of defense, and offense which is quite rare nowadays. Everybody is talking about Harden and his acquisition, but aside from that, there are 3 reasons that I think the Clippers are playing better right now.

1. Westbrook's adjustment from being a starter to now a bench player. For me, this is the main reason why they're playing better now. 2 ball handlers can't be playing together at the same time, and it's a good thing that he adjusted for the betterment of the team. Now he's mentoring those young players, and he's willing to adjust if that means winning the title... or will they? Cheesy
2. Kawhi and PG are more healthy than they are. F*ck the load management. Now they're playing better already. Kawhi didn't miss any game while PG missed only 1 game. Now look where they are right now. They're better, and I just hope that either one of them will not get injured when the playoff comes.
3. Harden is back to his old self. I believe Harden is starting to come back to his old self already. Not the Harden when he's in the Rockets where he's a scorer, but the Harden we used to see when he was at Brooklyn, and Philly. The passer-type Harden and this is a good thing for the Clippers.

The chemistry is starting to build up already, and we've seen it in their past games. The only question right now is will they sustain this type of performance until the end of the season? If they will play like this all throughout the whole season, I believe they will be at the top 4 at least. Smiley

They have always been second fiddle.  It's like the Mets and Yankees.  No matter how good the Mets are they don't get a lot of air time because everything equates ny baseball with the yankees.  Same thing with the clips and Lakers.  Knicks just played both, got blown put by the Clippers and handled the Lakers.  2 completely different vibes in the stadium even though they play on the same court.
593  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NFTs worth millions of dollars were stolen just now on: December 18, 2023, 10:48:14 PM
so, who dares to buy a stolen NFT because there’s no sense in that. Unlike normal crypto tokens/coins, no one can tell your ETH from the other ETH. But this? what would they use it for?
If it was bid cheaper than floor then bots can bought it or some are probably not aware of the hacked. Or possibly some have bid offer to it and got accepted even though its not on their prefered price. If you are hacker then you thinking to liquidate it as much as possible its not like you hold them and wait for it to go up. So nfts being stolen are probably gonna drop in price. Im thinking high level nft like bored ape, and many more.

Definitely, these hackers already know how to liquidate such stolen NFTs.
Because if they are not seeing any value on this, why would they go such route of stealing?
Maybe they already got their bidder on this. Or better yet, they are just testing their hacking capabilities.
And more than likely, they have already next in mind which one will be their next target victim.

Yeah but each nft is unique so if it was tagged as stolen it would be very easy to see and most trading platforms can just flag it.  I'm not huge into the nft world but I would imagine that this would also open the doors to track down the people who stole it.  Just seems dumb to hack nfts unless it's just for the lols
594  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who lost money due to dogecoin? on: December 18, 2023, 10:45:00 PM
So we all remember the time when dogecoin first came out, it was such a hyped-up altcoin, and everybody was excited about it. People start investing into the coin, and then it ends up sky rocketing! Who here was one of the people who invested into dogecoin while it was around the 60 cent mark, and wanted it to go up even higher, but then ended up losing a ton of money? Well I’m one of those people, and currently, dogecoin seems to be doomed, and I haven’t seen it get past the 10 cent mark in so long, and doubt that it will anytime soon. Coin doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, so for that could we get an RIP dogecoin in the chat? 😢🙏

Trust me I'm not a huge doge proponent but it's in too many hands at this point to just die unless something major happened.  Doge percentage wise is down just like most all other altcoins.  It will see a pump when bitcoin starts mooning again just like every other cycle.  Because of the endless 10k minted coins each minute it will eventually stop going up because supply will outweigh demand.
595  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: December 18, 2023, 10:36:55 PM
The Boston Celtics are the first team to reach 20 wins this season by successfully and easily beating Orlando Magic and this will be a message for them and a chance to improve their play because there will be a higher chance that they could meet up in the NBA playoffs and the same scenario could happen unless they find a way to stop Tatum and Brown offense. Just like that, we are now a few months away from NBA all-stars week, and after that, the real game begins for the playoff teams.

Celtics beat Magic back to back. Magic was one of the thoughest teams in the East but Celtics show them they are not at same level. I see only Sixers as a competition for Celtics.
As for All-Stars, Tatum and Brown will definitely be in there, but I think Porzingis also should be in the discussion. His stats are pretty good lately.

Yes, so far celtics and Sixers the teams that are showing some great consistency, but don't count the Bucks yes, especially the Miami Heat as they were the team that made suprises last playoffs. With Jimmy Butler's being healthy, they are still a big threat even if they will not end up with a good standing, remember they were the defending ECF champions.

Honestly I'm impressed with the sixers.  Joel embid is indefensible right now.  They need consistency from their other players but he is playing with a chip on his shoulder right now.  I think the sixers are way better without Harden on the team with them.  That was definitely addition by subtraction.
596  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who should quit, and why? on: December 18, 2023, 10:30:15 PM
Hey house someone need a few clips here, don't know if a post of this exact nature has been discussed though.

In a situation where the both spouse are gamblers. Husband gambles, wife gambles, how can both of them manage the situation in terms of finance and the family affairs especially when children are now involve so that the time both spends on gambling doesn't affect family moments and affairs in general.

Would it help if  one of the couple quit for the other and if that's the case who should quit for who.

I don't see what the point of one quitting would do.  In most cases both people combine theor finances so in this case if one of them quit the likelihood of the other one just betting more probably increases.  I actually think if they split theor funds it's better to hedge theor bet that way so they aren't all in on one particular bet.
597  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Risk management and responsible gaming on: December 18, 2023, 10:26:31 PM
Unsure of the direction of this thread but if you are saying that governments put in controls to help people I'd say it's minimal and I don't see an issue with that.  It's like smoking cigarettes, not much countries are doing about that addiction either.  I'd say it revolves mostly around all of the money they rake in from people's addicitions it's sad.
598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: 10k investment on: December 16, 2023, 10:48:16 PM
Hi,

I’m looking to invest 10k, I’m trying to decide if to go with XRP or ADA.

In terms of holding I can do it for 1-3 years no real time limit. Not sure what returns I might get short term vs long term. ADA for example i might get 3 to 4 x return, however with XRP that might be a lot more should they win the court case.

My slight worry is what happens if XRP lose.

P

I'd first ask if you have bitcoin or not.  I wouldn't recommend buying either of those before ypu had a decent amount of bitcoin as a hedge.  But if I had to chose it would definitely be ADA.  XRP is centralized and to me barely exists as crypto.  Ripple controls too large of an amount for me to ever take xrp seriously.  What if they dumped into the market, then what would hold the price up?  Too risky.
599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: About Altcoins Investment Experience on: December 16, 2023, 10:45:57 PM
I did invest in lots of altcoins and i received many tokens from bounties as reward. I experienced that, most of the tokens turns into shitcoin or dead after a few months. Some Altcoins performed very good for a certain time then all of those lost 90-95% of values and still traded on exchange with so called volume. Thus process is continued. Even top altcoins also replaced by new altcoins. 2017 vs 2023.

Moral: I think BTC and ETHEREUM is better option for investment, Can be trusted blindly, profitable for long. Low Ranked Altcoins, Memecoins and shitcoins are just headache and reason of huge losses in long time. But anyone can invest his money wherever they want.

I mean isn't that a given at this point?  Most every altcoin is made as either a straight up scam, cash grab or project with intentions it will never meet.  Most people buy into them not even understanding what they are for but just hoping they go up a lot so they can get back into bitcoin, eth or even fiat.  Greed drives the altcoin markets.
600  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NFTs worth millions of dollars were stolen just now on: December 16, 2023, 10:44:10 PM
I wanted to ask what they are stealing an NFT for and I forgot that it has value, pardon me NFT lovers Grin. I’m imagining if it was Bored ape that was stolen too, haha! Anyways, is there a sense in stealing such things if you won’t be selling it? Now that brings me to the question; people know an NFT has been stolen, people know which exactly has been stolen, so, who dares to buy a stolen NFT because there’s no sense in that. Unlike normal crypto tokens/coins, no one can tell your ETH from the other ETH. But this? what would they use it for?

That's the same question I had.  You can send crypto through a mixer and even if you don't it takes decent analytics to get caught up.  Nfts are unique and they have to be known as stolen, what's the point except to troll someone and steal theor stuff only to never use or sell it?  Am I missing something here?
