I am having an issue with the 0.4.0 server which I installed. I modified the config file to enable to API. The server is running and I browse to localhost:7886 and see the UI. I get the UI and select Add Account. Use Existing, put in my pass phrase and press "Save". The dashboard is empty, it shows no activity for my account. I have some more questions for the community.
A few people mentioned giving out bounties for tasks to help grow viacoin adoption/community. What kind of things (and amounts) were you guys thinking about?
I'm not sure about that. But, I think it depends on the project. Also, I would suggest people do stuff that doesn't try to replace main stream. Like one alt coin I sadly was involved with had a guy creating an ebay like web site that used the alt coin. The problem is, there is no way this site would replace ebay. Now, come up with something that allows me to pay for the ebay bids with Viacoin... that can help. Also, I love the concept of purse.io... perhaps we can approach them to support Via coin as well. That site is what I think is a great idea. So, yea, I think bounty size depends on project size and complexity. I know in the NXT world the bounties were generally done by the top wales, because they new giving out bounties for projects that will help grow adoption would only help increase the value of the coin. Of course, NXT was a bit different since it spawned 100% of the coin at genesis so bounties also increased distribution. Do we have any community funds? Or a board that controls them and offers bounties and accepts bounty requests, etc? |

I think part of the success of a coin is its volume. Volume shows adoption or at least interest in the coin. Low volume coins don't inspire confidence (at least to me) and are way easier to manipulate.
A good PR by the developers is another good factor imo - having them explaining their long term vision and projects for the coin. Even if it's a community projects it needs strong and active lead developers to motivate the community members to do things by themselves as well.

The multigateway MGW is a service that allows you to convert coins like BTC, BTCD, LTC, Doge, Dark etc into NXT asset tokens. There is no fee to use this service other than the coin miner fees and the 1 NXT tx fee.
The NXT Asset Exchange is a decentralized exchange. It runs on the NXT block chain and it cost the NXT minor fee (currently 1NXT) to place and/or cancel an order. Those fees go to the forgers.
So, MGW is fee free, but NXT AE trading is NOT fee free.

-make sure you have the correct version - make sure the db is in the same file structure (nxt-default.properties will tell you) - make sure properties points to the file (again)  I've never tried this service or on windows, but I've heard this works somehow. What version of client are you running?
If you have just upgraded to 1.4 .16, you have to delete the 'lib' folder too.
But it sounds like you might be using the installer version of Nxt rather than NRS?
Thanks for the responses. It turns out I was running the wrong version!! I was running the installer version when I should have been using the NRS. I just downloaded the NRS and it seems to be working now and the blockchain file I downloaded is now recognized although strangely, 1.4.16 didn't work once the lib folder was deleted so I kept it. The NRS doesn't slow down my computer as much as the installer version too which is good to see although I'm not sure why this is the case. EDIT: I decided to switch to version 1.4.15 of the NRS instead but everything else is still the same. Right, when it was said to "delete the lib folder" it means the lib folder of your current version not the new version. I always do this. I get the updated version. I delete all the files/folders in my Nxt folder except for the Nxt_db folder, then I copy the new version into the Nxt folder. This way if files are delete/changed I am guaranteed to be running all the newest files. |

Hm thanks. But its risky giving away the passphrase to a third party, isn't it ? But its ok to have some small amounts for paymant there... Is there something like a litewallet under development ? Those wallets don't store or know your password. Everything is done client side in the browser. trade.secureae.com is another, while it emphasizes the AE, you can still do simple sends as well. I thought they still store your wallet backups, just in an encrypted way. I also wonder why NXT still don't have a litewallet. I'd definitely use it if there is any one available. yes, the encrypted version of your wallet is stored on their servers. But, the password used to encrypt it isn't known. Until they move to off-chain transactions, it's always going to be based on the bitcoin network, which is about 1 block every 10 minutes. Unless they move to a faster blockchain like Via for example which has 24 second block times. Off-chain makes gemz instant, can bitcoin also be off chain for instant transactions? Sure, why not. Coinbase, Circle, Bitpay and some other online wallets do off chain, instant transactions. |

You can turn it off in the settings section available when the emoticon selection slides pops-up while typing, all the way on right. I turned it off to test it, tapped on the setting button on the right side of the gif and put the first option to off (which i think is something with manual), but how do i put it on again? Good one... I have no clue. When you shut off 'manual suggest content' then no suggestions will pop up, when you put it on off you get a notification 'turning on smarticon can be done in the app settings' although i don't see the option of turning it on, there is 'Enable Animations' but its already enabled while emoticon suggestions is still off, it might be a bug don't know, but if you want to shut it off, i suggest turning off 'auto suggest content' and not 'manual suggest content' since with turning off auto suggest content when you for example type 'hi' no emoticon/gif suggestion will pop up but the word 'hi' will be highlighted in blue, incase you still want an emoticon/gif suggestion you just click on 'hi' and they it will pop up. Too complicated for average user. Is a monkey riding a unicycle managing this project? No even a 5 year old can do it. Just shut auto suggest content off.  Are there no native English speakers editing your app text? "This is how an in message icon should look like:" sounds like some bad machine translation. Better options: "This is how an in message icon should look:" "This is how an in message icon will look:" "This is how in message icons appear:" "In message icon sample:" etc. I also think technically "In-message" should be hyphenated in this case as well: Generally, hyphenate two or more words when they come before a noun they modify and act as a single idea. This is called a compound adjective. |

I thought his address was blacklisted? Even if it was blacklisted by the exchanges, whats to stop him moving it around into different accounts with a new address? I meant, I thought his account was black listed by the NRS to not allow any outgoing transactions from it. I thought I read that in one of the change logs. This would never be allowed (and it obviously wasn't the case here). A centralised decision maker cutting people out of the blockchain a bad precedent. It would only be a matter of time before they make decisions a majority wouldn't agree with or just to benefit themselves. And these would of course be 'for your own good/protection/safety' Can't people vote with the version they forge with? If more than 50% on the NXT was forging on a version with his account blacklisted then it wouldn't be a centralized decision. But, I guess I'm remembering wrong. (I'm not talking about the re-org fork). |

Why can not I log in counterparty. This is the message: " No counterparty servers are currently available. Please try again later. ERROR: The server is not fully caught up to the blockchain. Please logout and try later. (Most likely this message is due to the server being updated.) " This puts into question my safety. I do not feel safe with GEMS. Counterparty server does not work and so I did not have my GEMS. I do not like this whole GEMS. Peled1986 voice heard. The application also do not mix.
If you do not like them, you should sell them. That said, your GEMS aren't stored by counterparty servers, they are stored on the bitcoin blockchain. You could probably also create a script to spend them with a normal bitcoin client to, if you were so inclined. |
