622  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coins.ph hacked, $6 million lost? on: October 21, 2023, 10:48:36 AM
Yeah, Coins.ph hasn't confirmed the hacking allegations yet, but they also haven't disputed them, which, in my opinion, should have been their first response if the news isn't true.

Indeed, quite a peculiar post. It wants to be somewhat reassuring for its users/customers, but by not denying the hack.. everybody can understand whatever they want, even the worse case scenario.
Since I do have the seeds of negativity in my thinking, I will for now assume they did get hacked and didn't want neither to openly admit it (to avoid panic, especially as you said, it's not that a big amount), nor to deny it so they don't get caught lying.

Thank you all for the generosity and for the opportunity.

Multumim 1miau.

626  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What if the internet permanently shuts down on: October 15, 2023, 02:08:22 PM
I'll focus on finance, so I'm thinking what will happen to the bitcoin inside wallets, what will happen to every fiat currency in bank accounts, if everything erases as a result of internet total breakdown?

The bitcoins are not in the wallets, the wallets only hold the keys. The bitcoins "are" on the blockchain and copies of it are in a lot of computers all over the world.
The amounts of fiat in the bank accounts are written into databases which for most banks I expect to be backed up securely too.

In both cases people relying on the technology will have to wait patiently until the internet is restored, the things continue from where they left (especially bitcoin) and they get access to their money again.

The fact you compare one forum with a decentralized network like Bitcoin tells that pretty much want this pointless discussion that was started many times before.
An attack like you're saying would come from an intelligent race from outer space. And if so, each and everybody will have more urgent issues than their money.
627  Other / Archival / Re: [banned mixer] - Premium Bitcoin Mixer | Launched in 2018 🛡️ on: October 15, 2023, 01:59:58 PM
Edit: The mix was successful. However, the page that tells you to deposit never says the deposit has been confirmed. It is stuck at "awaiting confirmation...", but it's strictly a frontend issue.

I've also done today a test mix (with Tor browser). And apart of the fact the mixed coins have arrived almost too fast after my sent ones (less than one hour), all was OK.
I've also noticed this message and I wanted to say about it, but I see there are already two reports Smiley
628  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Robert Kennedy Jr. Promises to End White House War on Bitcoin on: October 15, 2023, 10:26:29 AM
He is almost certain to lose. Unless Biden or trump drops out at the last minute.

Sadly this is true. Unless he has some very well hidden overly strong backing, he has not much of a chance.

Would be nice to see him shake up economy by actively pushing crypto.

It would be nice, but I think that the number of Americans who would actually vote for him because of his stance on crypto is not that significant.
Plus, as it was said before, he seems to be oblivious to the fact that he will not be able to push his agenda by himself.
629  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the selling pressure in the ATH level can be a problem to reach $100k? on: October 15, 2023, 10:15:30 AM
And many of them who bought around 69k price were still holding their Bitcoin today. Maybe they think that if Bitcoin reaches this price, it's time for them to sell.

Somebody who knows what he's doing and has bought at 69k (although I'd say that the one who knew what they're doing have bought much cheaper) has either sold when the price started showing a downturn (55k) and maybe bought back when the price started showing some recovery (~20k?), either will wait much longer than just 69k and some change.

But 100k si a psychological target and I expect quite some (even much older holders) will sell around then, creating a temporary sell pressure.
But a good keyword here is temporary. Compared to the whole length of the bull run, the 100k "pause" might not even become that much visible.

Something draws me to the Seedsigner as well.

Me too  Cheesy

Can these devices be bought fully assembled?

From what I've seen on websites, yes. Just afaik there's more to read about SeedSigner, for example I think that it doesn't work with Electrum (it may do with Sparrow) and you have to generate the seed separately yourself.
631  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger's laying off employees. Thoughts? on: October 15, 2023, 08:47:06 AM
You have to set up your wallet when you first get it. You have to install the crypto apps from the Account Manager and upgrade the firmware, which also requires installing a certain version of the Ledger Live. After that, you can avoid using the LL, unless it's time for another round of upgrades.

Actually I had a situation last summer, I had only the phone with me abroad and I needed to use my Ledger on a let's say unexpected setup and after trying the two Android wallets that I knew they support Ledger HW and they both gave error, I had no other choice than to use LL. Maybe I'll recheck the steps of what I've done and I'll write it detailed some day.
The point is that LL can be needed in other cases too, as wallet, and in the light of that seed recovery crap, ... it's somewhat unsettling.

All hardware wallet manufacturers have lied to their customers that sensitive data can't leave the secure element.
Then stick to permanently airgapped hardware wallets such as Passport, and your data can't leave the device at all.

I strongly agree with both statements from here  Cheesy

Bafta!
635  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Oct 2023] Fees are lower, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: October 08, 2023, 09:36:38 AM
How do you see it?

Imho it's about how much you would usually spend at once, because you want to have such tx with one input. If you have big enough inputs to choose from, you are fine.
On the other hand, you can consolidate anyway to be on the safe side, to avoid getting too easy small inputs later as change from the 100$ inputs when you spend 95$ of them. (and you spend before they become 500$)
I hope I was clear enough, not sure now how to say it better.

637  Other / Meta / Re: Switching to Presearch search engine for bitcointalk? on: October 08, 2023, 08:26:42 AM
Wouldn't it make sense?

This forum needs to be somewhat optimized for major search engines to get new people in here and maybe ninjastic.space needs to be better linked/advertised to the existing users can use a proper search. That's all we need. The tool you try to promote doesn't seem to bring anything really new or useful into the equation.
638  Local / Minerit / Re: Timp estimativ minat Bitcoin on: October 04, 2023, 03:42:34 PM
1.

639  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin devs really needs to focus more on making user interface easy to use on: October 03, 2023, 05:01:51 PM
I am not sure if OP actually talks about Bitcoin, since his post is filled with altcoins and altcoin related tools.
Now, the fact that wallets may need to become easier it was discussed a good number of times, just search.
However, that's not necessarily Bitcoin devs' problem, one can use whatever bitcoin wallet he wants or even make himself one. Even more, while we can give advises, it's not really OK to complain about free software.
I think that a more constructive approach would be to make or fund a wallet that's much more user friendly. But I've never seen anybody trying to go in that direction.
640  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Apart from the bitcoin core, are there any other way to store bitcoin? on: October 03, 2023, 04:41:15 PM
From what I could deduce from OP enquiries, OP is really wanting to know which is the best wallet as a newbie but there are lots of wallets OP can subscribe to which have already been made known here for OP perusals. What I will say is that OP should be able to get acquainted with the easiest and secured ones first while learning more about the higher sophisticated wallets.

I don't know if it's an unfortunate choice of words or you're using it wrong, but one doesn't subscribe to a wallet. A wallet is just a tool one installs and uses.
If you, by chance, make an account at a website telling you that it's a wallet, that's actually a service holding a wallet for which you usually don't hold the keys. And you may know the saying "not your keys, not your coins".

Also a newbie may play with very small amounts or it may go big, since bitcoin price may grow fast. And if one has a couple thousands invested he may want to make sure he uses a safe wallet. Not a difficult one, not a sophisticated one, but surely a safe one. And that requires a little bit of knowledge.
