621  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: January 31, 2015, 05:26:41 AM
Disappointed in the cloud mining offer as it is too costly to buy into it.  I want to thank you for the sp20 miners I purchased they are nice.

Looks like BTC is in for a rough ride the next 2-4 months.

The  cloud  contract is  just not competitive. 449usd for 1 th and $1.90 a day  is just not working for me.

I have to hope for 0 diff growth and more then 1 year to pay out.

I can get an s-5 hosted in china 340usd for 1.15 th  and 1.45 a day to host.  And I actually own the s-5. I get to chose 3 pools plus I get to view my miner mining.

Is not there any way you can get closer to this for your cloud deal. you are miles apart from them.

I'm fully aware of Lee's group. We're working on ways to reduce maintenance fees, but it will take time.
622  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: January 31, 2015, 04:52:59 AM

Yes, read back.

Sorry, your past reply to my present question eludes me. Perhaps I could ask it again and receive a straight answer =>

Does SP-T expect to offer cloud mining contracts at some point in the future, albeit 'fair ones' with cryptographic proof of hardware existence  ?

No matter. It was just a rhetorical question Smiley

I've missed your question. I went back and replied.
623  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: January 31, 2015, 04:50:30 AM
I've been reading your recent comments re: new features in your 4th gen. Is it fair to assume that SP-T is preparing to distance itself from its promise to never set up a SP-T DC ?
Currently we don't self mine, except with a small number of fixed RMA units in our 1MW DC in Israel, during low cost electricity hours.
I'm using those BTCs mainly for refunds, compensations, advertisements, etc.
Due to a huge cancelled PO, we still have considerable large stock of 2nd gen equipment in store at Flextronics Israel.
We might be forced to mine with this equipment, but I'm holding it off as long as I can. We're selling the equipment at a satisfactory rate.

During 2015, I believe that the retail market will die. We do plan to sell hardware but most of our equipment will be deployed as part of JVs with local experienced operators at places with low cost electricity. The form factor we're planning isn't suitable for home mining.

Does SP-T expect to offer cloud mining contracts at some point in the future, albeit 'fair ones' with cryptographic proof of hardware existence  ?
We're already providing cloud mining contracts as part of our partnership with Genesis Mining: http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/pages/cloud-mining
We might extend this partnership model to other cloud provider we judge legit.
With Genesis Mining, we're sending the hardware to cover the contracts after the sell, they're buffering while the equipment is in transit.
We hope to allow each customer to select her/his own pool preferences in the future.
Yes, we intend to work with cloud mining providers to integrate the features we're developing, detailed in previous post.

Guy,

No someone is just having a bad day

On a side note I'm getting ready to buy a 3some of sp20 and would like to buy a few looseRockerbox for my personal project to ship at the same time if possible.

Would I just contact sales@ ?

Let me know

My predictions, three months ago: Bitcoin TLV `14, #25 - Guy Corem - Mining Forecast
BitFury revealed their mining address two days afterwards. I didn't expect to see AntPool grow so much.
Let's see how the rest of my predictions will be in 2015. It was based of BTC value of $400

I think that it was one of the best Inside Bitcoin conferences ever. Kudos to Meni Rosenfeld.

Updated?

General comments now Guy on what you think is going to happen in the next few months?
I believe I have good visibility, however I can't give specifics due to NDAs, investors relations, etc.

Guy

Bullcrap. Listen, if you are going to hide behind the NDAs and put yourself out of the community like that then don't even mention anything at all. This Bitcoin forum should be for all to collaborate and share information, once you start putting a hierarchy on who gets to know what then you are turning it right into the same financial system we have now and why a lot of people are here. Suggestion, don't sign anymore NDAs so you don't have to say, "can't give specifics due to NDAs. This of course is my opinion.

I understand your frustration. However, in the normal course of doing business, you really need to sign NDAs.
Also, sometime the competitors, which with most of them I'm on friendly terms, tells you things and expect you to keep them confidential.
I can reveal only general stuff, and I did it more or less in the presentation.

Guy

Since you already said you are aware of information related to bitcoin you cannot disclose to the public, and other manufacturer's, investors, people who paid up, just will eventually turn this community into one big ponzi scheme and it will eventually tumble. Once the top hierarchy sucks all the money out of the peeons, then it falls. What we are getting are just bits and pieces of the bone you guys throw at us to keep us tagging along. If everyone knew how deep and wide some manufacture's pockets go they would be schickled shocked!

Come on bitcoin, RISE TO WHERE YOU ONCE CAME!

You confuse me with someone else.

I see it as a real threat to Bitcoin.

The nice thing about open source crypto-currencies is that there is always another one (or two or three) waiting in the wings !
Unfortunately, I'm all Bitcoin (and Sidechains).

Well, that seems to be the flavor du' jour at the moment Smiley

for bitfury maybe its not only about the money maybe they just want the have more then >50% hashin power.
Whit whole DC infrastructure already put in place, replacing the boards wont take to loong.
It will help the Bitcoin ecosystem flourish. Not.
You probably noticed the announcement that they bought Allied Control.

Really disappointed about that news. Seems to me the only reason they would do this is because they don't want everyone else to also have IC.

I guess we will be seeing more ghetto warehouse datacenters this year.
Not my words, but I fully agree:

"BitFury was already once in the position to dominate the market and it did (GHash + MegaBigPower, etc.).
...
But unlike with their first monopoly that was broken by a healthy competition, breaking the upcoming will require huge efforts that no
single competitor will be able to met alone."

Don't ask for the source, but I believe he won't mind me quoting him.

It took time to BitFury to fix rev1 and start deploying massive amount of hash power, directly, without partners (ask CEX, MBP and others...)

With rev3, the deployment will be much quicker and much more dangerous to the eco-system.
I see it as a real threat to Bitcoin. Pretty words about transparency, smart contracts (they misuse the concept to present cloud contracts provider as a reseller of hash power provided by BitFury in their Immersion Cooling DCs) won't mask it.

In addition, we're working on a way to provide cryptographic proof of hash-rate without interrupting customer contract hashing.
If we'll implement both features successfully (our target is to do it in our 4th gen), we intend to contribute it as an open source Verilog implementation to allow other HW manufacturers to integrate them into their ASICs as well.
Looking forward to more information on this as well, especially as you're referring to an on-silicon solution for a problem that could (arguably should) be tackled in software (for the most part).  Regardless, kudos to you for planning to release it as open source (and presumably royalty-free).
- Locking the ASIC to a specific customer until a specific block height - open source Verilog, royalties free.

- Split mining (to allow uncrackable rev-share - if someone read it here for the first time, please go to original post first) - close source hardware implementation.

- Cryptographic proof of hash-rate - should be open source, royalties free. We're still researching the best method to do it.

Guy

A timeline estimate possible or not?
We hope to complete working on the specs draft with Blockstream within the next couple of months, publish it, get feedback and implement first version in our 4th gen ASIC management layer.

Yes, we've started initial discussion with Blockstream about "Smart Property ASICs".
The idea is to allow locking of an ASIC until a certain block height to a specific customer.
Both features will provide transparency and ease of mind to cloud mining customers. It will serve to fight the endless ponzi schemes in cloud mining.

Can you go in to more detail? I understand and like the idea of locking an ASIC until a certain block height but I'm not sure I understand the cryptographic proof of hashrate.

Where will we go to see if they have the claimed hashrate or not? Will it be embedded in the blockchain? If so wouldn't it be easier to just disclose a mining address?
Not yet. We do intend to open the spec before actually implementing.
Revealing mining address won't help, since I hope that in the future each cloud contract customer will be able to choose her/his own mining pool preference.

Customers will be able to choose a cloud contract provider with such hardware features, and he/she will know for sure that their contract is 100% backed by real hardware.

It won't fix all the cloud providers problems, see for example: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2u1kiz/latest_email_from_cloudhashing/ (unbelievable, IMHO) but it's important step.

In addition, we intend to add another close source feature, enforceable rev-share (split mining). It will allow selling subsidise hardware and do a rev-share by mining to two different pools / wallets. No conspiracy theory please, the feature will be activated with the customer FULL knowledge and consent and it will be only optional.

Both features will promote de-centralisation of the network, even after home mining will, unfortunately, be over.

Tim Swanson (@ofnumbers), I know you read this thread since I've read some of my posts in your blog. Please stop spreading the nonsense about kill switch. No sane manufacturer will add such dangerous double edged sword.

Snapshot of the manufacturers poll Philipma1957 ran before the mods killed it off

I find the mods action unbelievable.

Guy

Edit:
I opened a meta thread to discuss the poll removal by the mods, without any explanation:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=938782.0

Who has the best firmware? Someone that always buys Bitmain products isn't going to have a clue who has the best firmware, or customer service. To truly get honest feedback from those questions the user would need to have products from all the manufactures listed. Since I only own two of the manufacture's listed in the polls, I really can't answer them accurately.
I agree that it wasn't a good question. Maybe better questions would have been:

- Which manufacturer firmware has more useful features
- Which manufacturer is more attentive to customers features requests

btw, you can say the same about the support questions, etc

@edgar, @thomas_s please contact support after the weekend.

do you mean tomorrow? (Sunday)

On my last attempt (#13) after a prolonged off period, i did get the alternating (xmas) leds

upon removal of the sd card & powering off/on - i am back to noisy fans and zero mining.

as though the recovery didnt 'stick'
...
...
...

ive tried 3 more since writing that - no joy at all

My guess is some management board problem. Yes, Sunday. It's 2 days from now for us.

I voted when poll was here, so did the data transferred to google or we shall vote there again?
Google poll requires login with google credentials, not btctalk-this is kind of defeats the purpose.
yeah  if you do not have a gmail account you can't vote there.

Surveymonkey is free for the first 100 responses and doesn't need a login. You'll also be able to limit people to voting by 1 per computer, IP etc in case there is any abuse.
I have one that only requires a webserver to run / take responses.

I've even made some questions but stopped seeing as there was a google form, if SP would like what I've done so far / to see it I would be happy to show them / give it to them.

Its a bit more detailed. If they send me a PM / email I'll show it to them and make changes if they request and finish it =)
It's Philip thread, he runs the show.

I am looking to back off here. As I am a little dog.  I would like us to try to create a decent survey So thomas_s  shoot me a pm  and one to sp-tech. I will look at it. We can brainstorm it a bit. Since this is more of a joint effort. It will at least be some kind of effort to make a fair clear cut survey.
I can't actively run a manufacturer survey.

Nice video. That forecast did not include the bitcoin exchange rate, which is the most uncertain variable for mining as a business: Racks of machine can become paperweight when bitcoin price dive below $100

Home mining however are not affected as much since many of them are not profit oriented
Thank you. I wish I could forecast the bitcoin exchange rate Smiley

Have you ever considered in forming an alliance like OPEC to limit the hash rate race?  Wink  I just saw Bitfury said that their cloud service would only add hardware based on demand, is this a trend towards more cloud based service?
It's funny to read it from mega self miner.
No, it's illegal.
