6721  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Grin Observer - GRN/BTC - Price Movement and Discussion on: May 16, 2019, 01:54:00 AM
@Cryptotourist. We should not become exceedingly excited. If you are bagholding, you should relax and do not make an error by buying more. Remember grin's inflation and monetary policy. This is also a miner's coin, especially in the beginning.

In any case, where can we check a chart of grin's all time hashrate?
6722  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: May 15, 2019, 03:12:19 AM
@Febo. Which people hehehe? Be careful of people in the cryptospace. I would only listen to opinions of people who have established trust in this community and I am not only talking about forum trustratings.

The people.

Have you noticed AEON gained 40% value in last 30 days?  Can you imagine that?

Why do you make it appear that I am talking rubbish? Gained 40%, however, with an orderbook similar to Aeon, it has no significance. I would sell some of my coins and it would be down 40% again and it does not take that much to push the price down, I reckon.

@jwinterm. Thank you. I will look and try.
6723  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AEON [2019-03-20: current version is 0.12.9.0] on: May 15, 2019, 02:46:32 AM
Everyone is very quiet in here hehehe. I reckon that the grassroots cryptocommunity model similar to how bitcoin started does not bode well for altcoins. There might be some altcoins that rode that wave and have reached its own success, however, if an altcoin has not achieved success by today, would it ever have a chance to be successful in using the grassroots community model?

How does one define a successful altcoin?

Everyone has been quiet the past month or so in the altcoinsphere. BTC price has appreciated nicely though. People dumping BCH for BTC?

There is not always a need to post daily activities. I have been reaching out to a list of business' for Aeon integration purposes. Seems many people are waiting on the fork to make any sort of move.

High transaction usage on the blockchain, high trading activity in the exchanges, listed in the biggest exchanges, a higher market capitalization than where Aeon is presently, a growing development team of good developers, a growing community made not only bagholders hehehe.
6724  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-08] Binance Confirms 7000BTC ($40m) Security Breach on: May 15, 2019, 02:04:13 AM

Besides, making the code public will also help hackers, it will be simply a toss of a coin, who will find the flaw first, a good guy or a bad guy.

That's absolutely NOT how open source code works. It's actually the safest code because it is picked apart by the community to ensure that it is safe before it is released. When has Bitcoin been hacked? Closed code is notorious for having security issues & vulnerabilities, plus you have no idea what's in that code of course.

The bitcoin code has proven to have flaws a lot of times and a lot of times new versions fixed have been rushed.
And this is exactly how open source code works, you let people know your code, you let everyone know how the code is written and how it works. Just because 20 guys said: ok this version is ok it doesn't mean it is.

And the supreme argument why it is not better like that is that nobody is doing!!!  Grin

I reckon that the only reason none of the exchanges are doing it is because none of them want their code to be copied and have a competing exchange with the same code. However, if the code is opensource, it would be developed and improved upon faster, patches for bugs and flaws will be coded faster and it might be the most secure code that an exchange can have.

Also, the closed source model has already been proven that it is not immune to attacks which they are protecting their software from.

@figmentofmyass. I speculate that it might be a combination of all 3 that has come into an agreement that it would be better for the cryptospace, and them, to support Bitfinex and profit than leaving it to die. Which I agree with.

@LeGaulois. Agreed! I reckon something only positive will come out of this if Bitfinex is saved.

6726  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-04-26] CNBC: Bitcoin price falls on NY AG Bitfinex probe on: May 14, 2019, 03:48:19 AM
@figmentofmyass. This goes back to my argument about money launderers who might be using the cryptospace to run a global money laundering ring. Who would support Tether again for the stablecoin to continue going?

I reckon the other stablecoins might be harder to use for their purposes because they are more closely monitored. Tether appears to be immune of regulators and it has no clear auditing process.
6727  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cryptos would only have value in a dystopian economy said JP Morgan on: May 14, 2019, 03:09:33 AM
News update.

The world is beginning to enter the stages of a dystopian economy the higher in value bitcoin becomes, according to Jaime Dimon. Listen to his words hehehe.

Also, the United States' stock market might fall because of Trump's ongoing tradewar against China, a tradewar that Jaime Dimon is defending.
6728  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 NBA Season on: May 14, 2019, 02:47:04 AM
@milewilda. Agreed. The 2 teams in their respective divisions and conferences will be in the finals. However, what should the Raptors do to win the eastern conference? I reckon they have a balanced team that might be good enough to play versus the Warriors, if they are lucky enough to win versus the Bucks hehe.
6729  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-08] Binance Confirms 7000BTC ($40m) Security Breach on: May 14, 2019, 02:22:13 AM
@squatter. This brings to us a question if it would be best for an exchange to have their code opensource for everyone to check and see for weaknesses in security and bugs.

It has worked for operating systems and some of the best cryptocoins, why can it not work of an exchange.
6730  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-04-26] CNBC: Bitcoin price falls on NY AG Bitfinex probe on: May 14, 2019, 02:04:39 AM
News update on this issue.

I shake my head. Bitfnex raised $1b from private investors depsite the United States government is after the exchange and a payment processor has $850m of their money. Who would be willing to take that risk? Do the investors know something?

Also, there is a chance that the case versus Bitfinex might be settled. What a win hehehe!

In the midst of legal uncertainty, Bitfinex has supposedly raised a billion dollars for their IEO token, LEO. The exchange has made no official announcement, but CTO Paolo Ardoino’s tweet has been interacting with Twitter users to explain the situation since his announcement.

In an alleged private placement, the company raised money from giants in and out of the crypto industry; the minimum issue was for a million dollars and some investors made a contribution over $100 million dollars. If true, this is possibly the fastest billion-dollar capital raise in any market. The timing of this placement has been immaculate considering their internal liquidity crisis.

The exchange has not made a statement regarding the arrest of Reginald Fowler from Crypto Capital, but they have announced support for Crypto Capital claiming that the authorities wrongly seized their funds. However, Bitfinex has shown immense public resilience no matter what the internal situation may be.

With judge Joel M. Cohen asking Bitfinex and the NYAG to hold discussions and come to a reasonable agreement, there is a possibility that the legal proceedings against Bitfinex will disappear. This will be an incredible victory for Bitfinex but nothing is certain until both parties have met.

@BitBustah. I reckon not very high. I would speculate that it is less than 100 copper memberships paid for in grin hehehe. It would be easier to pay for it in the cryptocoin they already hold.

28k sats and all is well...

Man that's a depressing chart Smiley I'm having a hard time analyzing whether or not with the infinite coin generation if that will end up hurting or suppressing prices.  If you want to buy grin you can always wait until tomorrow when its lower.  I know most coins are in the reward phase and new coins get generated daily but the end is known not so with grin.  Love the coin just dont know if I want to go in on it  Undecided

In the beginning the more than 10% of supply inflation in the next 10 years might surpress the price, however, in theory the surpressed prices might not be that bad. It might cause the price to be more stable, in theory.

@BRE. He is forced to be a warrior. Anderson Silva only wants to collect his paychecks from the UFC while his body can take it, I reckon hehehe. He has a family to feed and bills to pay hehe.

@Slow death. The solution is for the exchange to be smarter than the thieves. The thieves will never stop trying as long as there is something valuable in the vault.

You can only hire so many pen-testers. At best, you can outsmart most thieves, but never all of them. That's why there has been so much emphasis on reducing losses to limited hot wallets in these situations. All in all, this could have been a lot worse.

Agreed. However, if you cannot run a secure exchange that holds 100s of millions of people's money then you have no right to be running an exchange. There will always be thieves that will certainly never change.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in 2018 there was a 'successful breach' in Binance. The hackers was able to get the users logins thorough phishing link, installing API access on the affected accounts. So in a sense, Binance by that time should have step up their security. But I guess the hackers was again, always one step of the game and this time they are very successful. I guess, no one is really safe, even though Binance, in my opinion, have implemented security features after that breached.

How high is the possibility that the hack was only a show used as an excuse to release Binance's secure asset fund for users, also known as SAFU? Would Binance be capable of this or are they plainly just incompetent?
6739  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Grin Observer - GRN/BTC - Price Movement and Discussion on: May 11, 2019, 01:48:34 AM
Bitcoin holds its value better than grin so it is more sensible for the miners to dump grin and hold everything in bitcoin after expenses.
It happens with not only Grincoin, but also with other altcoins, so that is why when bitcoin moved up to above $6000, altcoins turned into Red. There are less investors whom want to own and hold their altcoins at the moment. Because they tend to be greedy and want to join and enjoy the ride of bitcoin. They likely bought bitcoin recent days and hope that Bitcoin will keep increasing to around $10000. Haha. Personally, after cashing out my bitcoin, I still keep accumulating cheap altcoins recent days.

Agreed. However this does not make grin a better investment than other altcoins. This is a common mistake made by bagholders. We look for excuses for our bad decisions by saying that it is ok because of reason x or reason y.
