@mirakal. Did you see what happened in the last game between the Raptors and the 76ers? I do not know if it is the team or the coach but there is something wrong with that Raptors team. There might not be a game 7 versus the Bucks if they play them.
6742  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Game of Thrones - Who will rule? Odds and betting discussion [Odds updated!] on: May 10, 2019, 03:52:07 AM
@Cloudbet. Will Game of Thrones return?

@bbc.reporter - I'm just trying to find out, not sure if the lines have come down as a result of the leaks or if it's just temporary. I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything.

If you are looking for leaks/spoilers for Episode 5 and 6 the best place is probably /r/freefolk on reddit, they have a lot of confirmed sources on there.

I've already read them so i'm trying to hold off on commenting here too much in case I give anything away, but there's always a chance the leaks have come from the alternate endings that they claim to have filmed for each character.

Got to say, I'm not hugely impressed with the last couple of episodes. Good entertainment value and some fan service, but the lack of common sense from some characters who have previously been built up as intelligent is a bit frustrating and breaks the 4th wall at times.

Ronnie @ Cloudbet

It’ll be interesting to see if sportsbooks reintroduce betting for Game of Thrones, at this stage I feel they’ll not be bringing it back as the leaks are already out. @Ronnie there’s way too many spoilers there, and I feel we’ll should avoid it otherwise it’ll ruin the show for us. Are you referring to Tyrion if yes have you considered the possibility of him being in love with Daenarys, which I feel is the case hence he’s unable to see her faults.

Yes, there is a really big possibility Tyrion is in love with her. However, he might also be killed by her because it appears that he and Varys will betray Daenarys and support Jon for the throne.
6743  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Grin Observer - GRN/BTC - Price Movement and Discussion on: May 09, 2019, 03:25:15 AM
@Febo. No, not if bitcoin was $20k. I ask in the present circumstances. Bitcoin holds its value better than grin so it is more sensible for the miners to dump grin and hold everything in bitcoin after expenses.

Is someone trying to tell the cryptospace that grin is what bitcoin should be hehehe.
6744  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Game of Thrones - Who will rule? Odds and betting discussion [Odds updated!] on: May 09, 2019, 02:58:08 AM
^^
How much did they offer for the death of the dragon happening in the last episode?
Also yes they closed the lines for the prop bets around the same time the episode aired because they were still advertising to place bets on the show.

for me the bet was which dragon to die first ( push on no death ) , odds for Rhaegal to die first was X1.39
there was some alternative bets on cloudbet as I remember before they took the lines down , there was total dragons alive after the end of season 8 ( over/under 1.5 dragons ) but don't remember the odds

I remember Missandie to die before Grey Worm was around 3.60 , that would had been nice to take but everyone was expecting Grey Worm to die first

It was more than 5.00 before episode 3, I reckon. Death of Melisandre to die in episode 3 also had similar odds.

@SyGambler. Does the leak include spoilers for episodes 5 and 6? Can you send links in my inbox? Thank you hehehe.

I want to know if my bets have a chance or not.
6745  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 NBA Season on: May 09, 2019, 02:31:21 AM
@rdbase. There are no Irish in this Boston team, however hehehe. Also, the Cavaliers coming back from a 1 - 3 in an NBA final was something very special that might not be repeated again for a very long long time.

In any case, only one more game for the Raptors! They were no Barneys in the last game.
6746  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin just broke $6000! (2019) on: May 09, 2019, 01:43:01 AM
Tom Lee must be very happy that his clients will stop bothering him about the price hehehe. He has been very quiet about bitcoin, however. His latest comments were about the latest US stock market dump and how it is a buy for him. Typical Tom Lee. The world might end to tomorrow and it will always be a good day to buy.

@Slow death. The solution is for the exchange to be smarter than the thieves. The thieves will never stop trying as long as there is something valuable in the vault.

Wondering why people put so many btc in their accounts, exchange is good for trading, but not for storing values.

Those people are called whales. They trade cryptocoins by the 100s of thousands of dollars or maybe more in each trade.

Also, I do not know why a rollback was in the discussion for Mr. Changpeng hehehe.
6748  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-05-08] Binance Confirms 7000BTC ($40m) Security Breach on: May 08, 2019, 02:54:49 AM
The biggest and most trust worthy exchanges in the cryptospace should not be hacked. This will not give the users any confidence to trade or to deal more in the cryptospace.

Binance is collecting millions in fees. Can it be given an excuse to be this incompetent?

Changpeng Zhao, CEO of popular cryptocurrency exchange, Binance has confirmed that the platform witnessed a security breach for the first time with the hackers being able to withdraw 7000 BTC ($40 million) in one single transaction. The confirmation came after several leads within the crypto community rumored that such funds had left Binance’s hot wallets before the exchange announced a sudden “unscheduled server maintenance.”

As per the update released by the exchange, the incident took place on May 7, 2019, at 17:15:24 (UTC). The hackers employed a variety of techniques such as phishing, viruses and other attacks to obtain “a large number of user API keys, 2FA codes, and potentially other info,” Binance said.

Moving further, the exchange said the hackers were patient enough to “wait, and execute well-orchestrated actions through multiple seemingly independent accounts at the most opportune time,” thus allowing them to bypass existing security checks.

@vv181. No. It takes away the enjoyment from watching the series to betting on the series. Cloudbet and Bitcoinrush also removed the odds from their sites because of the leaks. Also, what were the cheaters expecting? Sportsbooks can certainly cancel their bets.

@Cloudbet. Will Game of Thrones return?
6750  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XVG is a scam ? on: May 08, 2019, 01:39:23 AM
hi guys do u think XVG is scam ?
a few months ago XVG price was 220 sat
and now 120 sat and i guess it can fall more
a lot of investors bought at +200 sat and they
are in big lost now u think devs are selling
their coins ?

10 satoshi is to much for xvg. If you want a coin like xvg buy Doge. Much cheaper much better.

Also, dogecoin is merged mined with litecoin which makes its blockchain very much more secure than Verge. Verge was 51% attacked last year and the hackers stole $1 million.

@crypto1998. I recommend that you wait for grin to be sub $1 then begin buying.
6751  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Grin Observer - GRN/BTC - Price Movement and Discussion on: May 08, 2019, 01:11:36 AM
I reckon that it might also take years on grin's monetary policy. This is very possible, check Zcash's weekly chart. Zcash has been making new all time lows with small pumps in between. However, it might also occur similar to dogecoin based on the similar monetary policy.
ZCASH has to stop, because it can not make its new all time lows for hundreds of times, I believe that we have witnessed one of the last all time lows of ZCASH. The coin gradually falls and sets up its new all time lows because people were overvalued its months ago, that's all. Then, when ZEC actually hit its all time low, everything will be fine, it will bounce back and start its slow recovery from its real all time low, that likely not too far from its temporary price, in my opinion.

However, the market will not listen to what you want or believe. It might be worse for grin because of its monetary policy which was designed to give more priority to distribution and coin circulation than a priority to become a store of value. This is not a get rich quick cryptocoin.

In any case, ask yourself what is more possible, grin to $0.50 or grin to $10?

I'm not an Illuminati conspiracy theorist but I'm with squatter here: if there is a "global money laundering ring", then it's not Bitcoin or crypto that's only had little over 10 years to set up the ring and convince the ringleaders of the old world to come aboard.

If there is a ring (and I think you'll find plenty of theories saying there is), then it's the really old names with ageing ringleaders washing old money. I'm talking really old money here, made off conflict, slavery and extermination, etc.

It is a good article, nevertheless, if only because it offers one explanation for why the NY AG is gung ho. Politics? Dead right.

However, there are drug cartels, corrupt politicians, dirty bankers and others that bitcoins and cryptocoins could serve. The cryptospace made money laundering easier to coordinate and easier to transfer money. Alexander Ginnick laundered billions of dollars by using BTC-e. Money laundering might be the no.1 reason that BTC-e was built.

In any case, read Bitfinex's response to the New York attorney general hehehe. I reckon ICOs can learn from this.

“… the Attorney General does not even try to explain how tethers qualify as securities or commodities covered by the Martin Act … the Attorney General should not be afforded the drastic remedy of a preliminary injunction, or an order requiring the Respondents to address blunderbuss document demands, without establishing the basis for its authority to even regulate in this sphere,” Bitfinex’s legal counsel writes in the filing.

39k sats, an All Time Low and all is well...

Grin coin has hit its all time low, and double bottomed, so it is time for Grin coin to gradually recover from 39k satoshis. Grin coin is a good altcoin, it was just over valued by people whom FOMOed at the beginning days of Grincoin. From now on, from the bottom around 39k satoshis, a new cycle, and a real growth of Grin coin will be started. The recovery and growth of Grin coin from bottom might require months to fully rally, but it is more safely to see the coin grow slowly but solidly like this.

I reckon that it might also take years on grin's monetary policy. This is very possible, check Zcash's weekly chart. Zcash has been making new all time lows with small pumps in between. However, it might also occur similar to dogecoin based on the similar monetary policy.

@Febo. Badder news, the other exchange is Trader Ogre. This is an exchange that we cannot fully trust for more than $1000 hehehe. I reckon maybe less.

A Poloniex relisting would be perfect. That would bring back some optimism to the project.
6755  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XRP] Ripple Speculation on: May 07, 2019, 01:16:48 AM
Actually, BTC is one of more centralized ones, both by pools (3 or 4 big ones can do 51% attack), and by country (China alone can attack it)

Agreed! Bitcoin mining is becoming centralized. However, this does not change that Ripple is a centralized platform. It will only stop being centralized if Ripple finds a decentralized consensus process on adding nodes in the Trusted Nodes List.

For the hundredth time, the nodes that take care of the consensus are decentralized and open to anyone !!!

Just have a look at the list of validators here: https://xrpcharts.ripple.com/#/validators
Out of the total 117 nodes running on the main net, only 7 are controlled from ripple.com ! (yes I actually counted all the nodes one by one to make sure since CTRL+F was returning a little bigger number)
This is just 5% of the network controlled by Ripple!! 5%

--- shortened the quote ---

The above numbers show us that after 1 year...
  • 2300 million XRP have left the escrow and 2299m of them are in circulation right now, the 1m XRP difference are burnt coins.
  • From 15% of the coins held by XRP in the end of March 2018, we're now at 13%.
  • Considering the XRP held by Ripple and the XRP distributed as "coins in circulation" and the XRP placed in escrow as "coins to be mined", XRP had a good yearly inflation rate of 4.74% (for comparison, BTC had about 4.5% and ETH about 7%).

Ofcourse Ripple stills has the potential to earn 51billion of XRP , but this will take about 50 more years.
Ripple promises that they sell their coins on OTC deals which shouldn't affect the trading price in exchanges, but even if they were to dump 100% of the coins they earn to the market, the impact would still be similar to BTC miners dumping 100% of their coins or Ethereum miners dumping 70% of their mined coins.

However does Ripple let everyone or have a consensus process on who to include in the Trusted Node List? Also to who or where did they distribute all the XRP sold by Ripple? I reckon to a few trusted parties by Ripple, correct?

Who holds the XRP in escrow?
Who holds in escrow?
A:

A mathematical formula wich releases 1 billion xrp a month and put the unsold back into escrow.
In btc they call that mining.

Can you explain more how that escrow system works? Can anyone participate in mining Ripples? I reckon the community should participate in this to help secure the Ripple ledger.

First of all, "Ripple" is the name of the company that created this blockchain and all the business software that uses XRP.
"XRP" is the name of the coin which is used as the backbone in some of their software.

None can "mine" XRP. The escrow/algorithm releases a stable amount only to the Ripple company who sells or gifts it to partner companies and/or for marketing reasons, I don't think we have the exact details of how they use this monthly XRP income but we should be able to tell by watching the blockchain.

However there's no reason to panic with this method, since the coins are NOT SOLD to public exchanges, they are sold OTC (Over The Counter), for example I might want to sell 1000 BTC, but instead of dumping them on the market and driving the price down we could both agree that I transfer you the BTC and you give me 5.50 million through a private channel. Since the exchange is not going through the public Exchanges, the sale does't affect the coin's price.
This method allows Ripple Labs (the company) to benefit by having a monthly income without pushing the coin's price down. The coins are distributed the same way they'd be distributed if people were mining it, but instead of paying for hardware and electricity bills, they pay Ripple Labs.

Ok, it is nothing like bitcoin mining like what MemberBerries was making it appear to be hehe. It is only a monthly distribution process for the people behind Ripple to distribute tokens for itself. I was almost excited.

You can read an interesting article and find some graphs about it here: https://ambcrypto.com/uae-is-top-destination-for-token-sales-in-2019-iota-pumps-by-17-as-jaguar-integrates-it-for-data-sharing-access-and-more

As for the actual coins and who owns them, those are locked behind a smart contract which releases the coins in small amounts every month.
Personally I check the "XRP Supply" section found on the bottom of this page: https://ripple.com/xrp/market-performance/, it's updated every month and if you write down these numbers every month  (like I've been doing) you'll get a nice picture of how those coins are handled.

For anyone interested, here is a 1 year comparison of the XRP,
25/03/2018
TOTAL XRP HELD BY RIPPLE 7,097,884,501
TOTAL XRP DISTRIBUTED 39,094,520,623
TOTAL XRP PLACED IN ESCROW 53,800,000,024

14/04/2019
TOTAL XRP HELD BY RIPPLE 6,486,676,982
TOTAL XRP DISTRIBUTED 42,004,966,728
TOTAL XRP PLACED IN ESCROW 51,500,000,013

Tom Lee also mentioned in a tweet that this will have a negative impact unless the purchasers of the IEO are new to the cryptospace. Also, as already reported, $600 million of the tokens have a ready been allocated to bitcoin whales and Asian venture capital firms.

How much of that investment is new money?

Dovey Wan, the founding partner of Primitive Ventures, revealed that Bitfinex was planning to raise $1 billion through the sale of company-branded crypto tokens through an on-platform initial coin offering, more commonly referred to as an IEO.

Per a document published by Chinese cryptocurrency investor Zhao Dong, first reported on by The Block, however, the IEO is entirely legit. As Wan revealed, Bitfinex does intend to sell $1 billion of the cryptocurrency. Funnily enough, however, Larry Cermak of The Block has said that $600 million of the funding round has already been allocated to private investors, reported to be industry insiders, Bitcoin whales, and Asian venture capital firms.

While this news seems to be independent of the broader cryptocurrency market, Tom Lee, Fundstrat’s head of research, has postulated that this $1 billion raise could actually be a negative price action catalyst for Bitcoin. The prominent commentator explains that $1 billion worth of new tokens will have a negative impact on BTC and other digital assets, as the market needs to “absorb” an influx of LEO tokens.

As Lee notes, “Bitcoin miners sell $7mm per day, so a $1 billion IEO is essentially 142 days worth of miner selling taking place in one day.”
