681  Other / Meta / Re: Huge donations to bitcointalk on: July 31, 2020, 01:49:13 PM
The forum has - if I recall correctly - over a million dollars in reserve. Besides, the donations don't pay mods; it's from ad revenue.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=155000.0

The total number seems to be closer to $16 million dollars at current USD/BTC exchange rate. So way more than enough than any online discussion forum could ever need.
682  Other / Meta / Re: Huge donations to bitcointalk on: July 29, 2020, 07:28:08 PM
These days if you're happy to donate 50 BTC to become an official donator then more power to you but you're likely to be in a microscopic minority. Once upon a time that was 50 bucks and less which is when many of the donations would've been made.

*~$100 (BTC didn't got below $2 since theymos started accepting donations in return for Donator and VIP titles).

Sometime i feel that forum is missing a lot of funds by not using google ads. With the sort of traffic, this forum generates, google ads could generate a lot of revenue for the forum, but then it will not remain as clean (ads free) as it is now.

Bitcointalk.org is primarily a discussion forum, not a business ran to maximize income. There are many reasons against having Google ads, such as: privacy, preferring to have more control over which ads are shown on the page, and not wanting to censor more content than necessary just to please Google (to be compliant with their gambling policies, among others).
683  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase is not safe! on: July 29, 2020, 06:55:28 PM
And it's because they're so regulated by the US government that they are actually "safe".  Ever since I've been a member of this forum, I've seen tons of scams perpetrated by exchanges that weren't regulated, and with basically no oversight they were free to steal their customers' funds with impunity.

And yes, Coinbase can terminate anybody's account, and they don't have to give you a reason--but I don't think I've ever read about cases where closed accounts resulted in lost funds on Coinbase.  That's not something a highly-regulated exchange could get away with.  Compare that to an exchange like Yobit.  It's remarkable that they haven't pulled an exit scam yet.

"Safe" except for all those people who lost millions due to SIM swap SE attacks. A big company like Coinbase should have known better than to allow it's users to use SMS as 2FA. I also recall many complaints with orders not going through during bigger price movements, usually to the disadvantage of the user.

684  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Can i get wallet.aes.json from Wallet identifer? Lost password on: July 29, 2020, 06:09:22 PM
There seems to be no help from the blockchain.info team.

Have you tried contacting them and their people on reddit, twitter, and wherever else you can find them?
685  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Investing in Nexo. Is it worth it? on: July 29, 2020, 05:17:46 PM
What if BitGo gets hacked? Nexo holds their coins with BitGo, so they would lose everything, including their user's coins (like yours). However, since BitGo has insurance, they return the coins to Nexo.

If BitGo gets hacked, they will give the coins back to Nexo.

I wonder what's the biggest amount of stolen or otherwise lost bitcoins that was covered by some sort of insurance and where the insurance company actually covered the losses. I can't find anything approaching anything close to the $100M that BitGo claims to be insured for, for example.
686  Economy / Exchanges / Re: WEX.NZ on: July 29, 2020, 04:21:22 AM
BTC-e was fined $110M by US authorities back in 2017, so that coupled with what happened with funds held at Liberty Reserve or Silk Road, I think the chances of any of the rightful owners seeing that money are very low.
687  Local / Polski / Re: Wysokie fee za wypłatę z portfela on: July 29, 2020, 04:09:44 AM

688  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Kremlin vs bitcoiners. on: July 25, 2020, 01:23:05 PM
all out "strange" law as to me. It  "decriminalized" cryptocurrency but prohibits to buy any of goods/properties with it. Looks like it’s for the benefit of a  small circle of topmost officials who have billions in bitcoin and can spend them for buying luxuries  being abroad. I can’t explain it any other way.

Which would make sense. Let FSB thieves spend Wex money and anyone they turn a blind eye to, and confiscate bitcoins of anyone else who's found not compliant with the new law.
689  Local / Polski / Re: Czemu KYC jest skrajnie niebezpiecznie i pozbawione celu on: July 25, 2020, 12:06:35 AM

690  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitmain co-founder in legal war against shareholders of the company on: July 24, 2020, 11:42:18 PM
I haven't been following this dispute, but has it had any effects on miner shipping times? Could both of them actually produce ASICs separately, without working together?
691  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Kremlin vs bitcoiners. on: July 24, 2020, 11:18:47 PM
Finally they made it and approved the bill regulated the turnover of assets associated with cryptocurrencies. But the solution is a half-hearted one as always. On the one hand, it is allowed and legitimized but on other hand the only body which is eligible to decide who can buy cryptos is the Central Bank of Russia. Whose side is the ball on now?

Quote
Cryptocurrency related operations and cryptocurrency exchanges will have to comply with banks, as they will also be assigned the role of implementing additional requirements, while also analysing investors to determine who is or isn’t qualified to purchase cryptocurrencies.

Seems heavy-handed, but essentially it's not entirely dissimilar to what an average BTC buyer faces elsewhere, i.e. their bank can decline a bank transfer to a cryptocurrency exchange. Russia only codified this it into law.

Thanks! I ignored it and it worked just fine. Not sure why you suggested downgrading to 3.3.8 though? Since that message is showing in both versions, what difference would it make?

I think the potential problems with signing transactions are related to this: https://blog.trezor.io/latest-firmware-updates-correct-possible-segwit-transaction-vulnerability-266df0d2860

Już jest coś podobnego, PLN coin: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/plncoin/
i PolishCoin: https://coin.market/crypto/pcc

Jako że nie wróżyłbym sukcesu kolejnemu tego typu projektowi, to nie przejmowałbym się nad ewentualnymi skutkami ubocznymi.
696  Economy / Gambling / Re: bustabit – The original crash game on: July 17, 2020, 10:59:55 PM
Well, Daniel has been around long enough to see a lot of casinos go bigger than bustabit and a lot of them crash and burn. I remember back in the day there was something called moneypool that was connected to rhavar as well, might be different name, maybe not moneypool, but something that was in general as an idea to have a collective bankroll for multiple casinos, just one bankroll, and countless other casinos all tied to that bankroll all together so they wouldn't need to have a bankroll.

There was a website there that eventually started using something called ruby as well. That website basically became the biggest casino there ever was in crypto for like.. a month? Then crashed and burned and nowhere to be found now. So, what I am saying is, Daniel knows what makes a casino big, and what makes it keep going as big without going down.

697  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: (KYC on Vindax) This proof further convinced me that KYC is really not important on: July 10, 2020, 11:58:50 PM
Just because basic KYC verification is seamless (in this case unusually so Wink) doesn't mean there won't be any trouble when actually using the site and withdrawing more than a bitcoin or two.
698  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PSA: Most Stablecoins Can Be Frozen, Even When in Your Own Wallets on: July 10, 2020, 11:23:50 PM
As ever these things are nothing more than Paypal with extra paranoia and desperation to yield to The Man. There'll be plenty more of this in future.
At least with PayPal you have reliable support, you are quite sure your $1 will still be worth $1 tomorrow and can solve any issue way faster. Have problems with a cryptocurrency? Good luck getting out of your own sh*t fast enough without having to be considered some sort of criminal by the authorities.

Only few days ago did I say over here that stablecoins may be good short-term "safezones" for Bitcoin parabolic changes. I'm now taking back my own words. Better have a 30% overnight paper loss than have 100% of your balance frozen and blacklisted.

PayPal and similar services masquerading as banks are not exactly a paragon of reliability. PayPal especially is infamous for freezing funds for 6 months for spurious reasons.
699  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [OFFICIAL]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: July 10, 2020, 04:13:16 PM
Has bitfinex turned into some kind of train wreck?

Were they ever a perfect exchange? Haven't used them in a long while now but they now not only ask for KYC but also about source of funds.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/aw95wt/my_bitfinex_withdraw_is_locked_they_ask_me_the/

Could be the same thing here. Maybe try again or with a smaller withdrawal, if it doesn't then you probably have to contact them and see what they want from you.

But pages shouldn't take this long to load, try a different browser if it still runs like that.
700  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTCpay Server: A Real e-Commerce Game Changer? on: July 10, 2020, 04:02:21 PM
Bitpay's days are numbered, wouldn't you agree?

They will remain one of the most popular choices for anyone who doesn't want to deal with the hassle of selling coins for fiat by themselves. Medium-sized and bigger companies will also tend to prefer to work with someone more established in the space. But it's always great if the barriers of entry are lowerfor non-technical enthusiasts as well as for those who don't mind the price volatility, perhaps due to fat margins.

And for most businesses volatility also might not necessarily be a huge issue so long as cryptocurrency payments are a small percentage of their total payments.
