721  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Using electrum.blockstream.info server? on: June 22, 2020, 05:30:31 AM
that is why i said "lower chance".
it is not only about the company wanting to do it themselves, it is about how easier it is for the government to put pressure on a company to do what they demand than it is to do it to an individual.

I think an average individual is more likely to buckle under government pressure, they might not have the resources to fight compared with a well-financed company.

722  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Using electrum.blockstream.info server? on: June 22, 2020, 01:02:17 AM
random nodes run by individuals has a much lower chance of recording your information.

Individuals can often be easily bribed or otherwise corrupted, vide Mycelium creator who went on to start Chainalysis and sybil-attack the Bitcoin network. Blockstream and the people behind it so far haven't proven themselves to have such inclinations, on the contrary their block explorer provides privacy tips (which by itself may not be much but it at least gives some insight as to what their motivations are).
723  Local / Polski / Re: Jak rozpoznac adresy SegWit? on: June 21, 2020, 10:25:50 PM
Jeden zajął 960 byte a drugi 1400 byte

724  Local / Polski / Re: Jak rozpoznac adresy SegWit? on: June 21, 2020, 12:08:23 AM
725  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum bitcoin wallet review 2020 on: June 20, 2020, 09:01:46 AM
There's also an Android version but it isn't as feature rich and it doesn't support hardware wallets (although I heard there were some plans for that).
726  Local / Polski / Re: Buying / selling bitcoin in Poland on: June 19, 2020, 11:54:56 PM
Bitbay and or millenium may report you to the local IRS with tour transaction history so what you have to think about is that by making any profit using bitbay and your polish back account you need to file a tax report to IRS

The tax office is called US or Urząd Skarbowy here. Other than that I think it's pretty obvious that if you go through KYC or withdraw the proceeds from selling bitcoins to a bank account, taxes have to be paid if you don't want this sword to be hanging above your head for the next ~5-6 years...
727  Economy / Economics / Re: FATF meeting about crypto on: June 15, 2020, 03:53:54 PM
all of that was happening a year ago. bitstamp began EDD with source of funds questionnaires in 2015, with more exchanges doing so every year since then. and the binance.SG incident simply went viral on crypto twitter, that's why people are aware of it. here is another instance from over a year ago where a bitfinex user was questioned about coinjoin transactions and subsequently had his account closed: https://www.reddit.com/r/WasabiWallet/comments/beqj8r/bitfinex_lock_account/

i feel like you're taking me out of context. i'm not saying "literally no exchange has changed their AML/KYC policies in the past year". i was responding to someone who said 1. this FATF meeting in 2 weeks is a good reason to now verify on exchanges, and 2. implied this FATF meeting will immediately catalyze major changes across the industry. the june meeting last year certainly did not do that, although i was shitting bricks at the time.

Bitstamp actually started with invasive KYC questions already in early 2014 (possibly even earlier but not 100% sure on this one as that was quite long ago).

I can't prove to what extent are all these changes are specifically related to FATF (or AMLD, banks, something else etc.), but with the direction we're heading FATF is just another nail to the coffin of general BTC usability, even if it had no influence on so-called VASPs' increasing hostility towards their users' privacy, there's no telling it won't get any worse (it likely will).

The Looming Bank Collapse.
729  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: It's possible to trace a bitcoin transaction? on: June 13, 2020, 12:48:01 AM
Hello,

Recently I have sent btc to a guy who was selling some stuff and till now I haven't received what I paid for, so my question is if it's even possible to somehow get back the coins or trace the guy who received the coins?

You can try looking up if the coins ended on some known exchange or service, if so, you can report the crime at the police and send them the police report, they might freeze the coins at least.
730  Economy / Economics / Re: FATF meeting about crypto on: June 12, 2020, 11:59:37 PM
Common let's not believe everything that cointelegraph writes just to make their article a little spicier.
There are only two countries on the FATF blacklist and those, Iran and NK are not mainly there because of KYC or AML.

FATF is a cooperation force, it simply issues guidance, it has zero legislative powers.

Being blacklisted is the worst the can happen, but there are steps in between that can be taken and that can affect the country's economy or competitiveness, such as various 'high-risk' labels.

right, so we're in the exact same situation we were in a year ago when the travel rule was originally published. Wink

the FATF and national regulators are no doubt coming, but they move at a snail's pace. my comments were a direct response to this:

Binance causing problems to users withdrawing to Wasabi wallets, more exchanges asking about source of funds, I wouldn't say we're in the same situation as a year ago.
731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Warning when transaction fee exceeds sent amount for bitcoin wallets? on: June 12, 2020, 11:29:17 PM
I wonder that there are any bitcoin wallets have such a warning?

Bitcoin Core with default settings won't let you send a transaction with a fee exceeding maxtxfee (0.1 BTC), the same applies to raw transactions.
732  Local / Polski / Re: Pospekulujmy o aktualnej i przyszłej cenie BTC. on: June 12, 2020, 10:30:13 PM

733  Local / Alternatywne kryptowaluty / Re: Polish Hyde Park - altcoiny & tokeny on: June 12, 2020, 10:21:24 PM

734  Local / Alternatywne kryptowaluty / Re: Polish Hyde Park - altcoiny & tokeny on: June 12, 2020, 02:30:11 AM

735  Local / Alternatywne kryptowaluty / Re: Polish Hyde Park - altcoiny & tokeny on: June 10, 2020, 11:18:22 PM

736  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Trx Fee on: June 10, 2020, 11:08:18 AM
While this is true, i doubt that a lot of people did change their settings to relay transactions with a fee lower than 1 sat/B.
The majority of the network won't accept them, and it will probably never reach a miner (and even if it does, i doubt they would accept them given the fact that there are almost always transactions with at least 1 sat/B waiting to get confirmed).

Except for busier days, it doesn't take long for 1 sat/vB to be included in a block (occasionally even as soon as in the next block), so if miners were willing to accept them, transactions cheaper than that would also be getting included in blocks. But that won't be happening until Bitcoin Core is released with lower default minimum relay fees.
737  Local / Alternatywne kryptowaluty / Re: BAT / Brave; split z: gdzie rozdają kryptowaluty za darmo? on: June 10, 2020, 07:38:42 AM

738  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi Wallet 1.0 Is Released on: June 08, 2020, 09:37:42 PM
But the interesting part is they mentioned "Dutch FIOD has started promising technical research into behavior and demixing of Wasabi transactions", it's interesting how they achieve that (assuming it's true), would they look for another user behavior,  vulnerabilities in Tor or even vulnerability of the blind signature itself?

My guess is that a lot of users aren't careful with their post-mixing behaviour (many mistakes can be committed here, often unwittingly).

That being said, i do fear that the attention of law enforcement towards coinjoined transactions might end up in some kind of law that forces exchanges or payment providers to either block these funds or make us go trough even more hoops in order to spend our funds.

It's already often the case without relevant legislation if there aren't enough hops between a deposit or a withdrawal. They can also just ask everyone for source of funds.
739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Documented Timeline of Exchange Hacks on: June 07, 2020, 09:09:45 PM
It's missing quite a few entries. It also says it's a list of exchange hacks, but includes wallets such as inputs.io while failing to include other online wallets such as MyBitcoin or Instawallet.
740  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bittrex - source of funds on: June 07, 2020, 08:18:23 PM
Some companies will ask to have a skype/video conversation in lieu of asking for a selfie to ascertain the account isn't stolen (or created using someone else's dox), so asking for mugshots seems tame in comparison.

But the proof of source requests take the cake, it's a shame they have become significantly more prevalent in the past few years. My experiences with banks have been a lot more positive even in cases where I'm certain the bank didn't/couldn't have much info about higher value transactions.
