741  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I will invest the money to buy the land in Bitcoin. on: December 04, 2023, 05:00:11 AM
Well, assuming that what you say is true, because in this section there are many invented stories and we have no way to verify that you are telling the truth, and considering that you are only looking for profit, surely now is a good time to buy because we are at the beginning of the bull market. If you buy now and keep the investment for a year and a half or so you will most likely get good profits.

The only thing I would recommend is that if $11K is all you have, don't invest it all. It is more basic for example to have an emergency fund for 3 to 6 months of expenses. Once that money is set aside, you can invest the rest in Bitcoin.
742  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Hits $40,000 for First Time Since April 2022 on: December 04, 2023, 04:54:03 AM
We can expect Bitcoin price to reach $45,000 by the year 2022.

Correct this, as I am sure it is a typo and you are referring to the year 2024. And as for reaching that figure, it is normal that we will reach it at the beginning of 2024 or maybe even earlier, it would not be unreasonable to reach it this month. It is clear that we are starting a bull market, although as is logical and with the volatility of Bitcoin, there will be ups and downs.
743  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Spanish citizens to declare foreign crypto holdings by end of March 2024 on: December 04, 2023, 04:48:25 AM
I think that the amounts will decrease every year in order to force all citizens to declare their assets in cryptocurrencies. Innovation and repression always start with the largest and richest owners of cryptocurrencies, and then they will follow ordinary users. But I’m still sure that they will use data from centralized services.

That is the view I have as well, but it is not widely shared on the forum, which does not mean that others are right. I also had a similar view about mixers some time ago, very little shared, and look what has happened. And what you say about quantities is what is going to happen. In the same way that cash payment limits have been imposed and have been lowered lower and lower (with the recent exception of Italy, which will change downward again as soon as the government changes), the same thing is going to happen with this. The goal is total control of the population, first financial and then in general, with the help of CBDCs and European digital identity.
744  Other / Politics & Society / Re: French man attacks and kills tourist in Paris on: December 04, 2023, 04:28:32 AM
There seems to be some confusion about the motivations or the context of this attack in particular, in my opinion.

You didn't get the irony, did you? If the murderer had been a white Frenchman who voted for Le Pen we would have his face all over the media explaining how the ultra-right has committed a murder, but in cases like this the media always find an excuse to downplay the drama of what happened, in this case saying that the murder has nothing to do with his radical Islamist views but that it was a poor fool who killed because of his madness.
745  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is forum reputation enough to influence mixers? on: December 04, 2023, 04:19:23 AM
Mixers are just going to get a little more innovative and find different ways to advertise. There's a ton of dirty money out there that apparently is worth risking prison over. The forum isn't the only place to advertise.

The forum is an advertising platform and just one of the advertising platforms...

They will find other places to advertise for sure. They would prefer to continue on this one because it is the largest Bitcoin forum and the one founded by Satoshi but at the end of the day there is a lot of money at stake and they will move their advertising elsewhere.

How can they change the way they mix their coins, their "job" is to obfuscate the source of your coins and they are definitely not going to request for KYC before mixing, because that defeats the purpose of a mixer and thus nobody is going to use that service. Mind you that mixers aren't doing anything inherently wrong, i am surprised that majority of users here aren't seeing the crackdown on mixers as an attack on Bitcoin, but instead that mixers are the problem. Undecided

Right. Mixers will continue to work as they do now until there is legislation that prohibits them, which between the slowness of the administration and the steps that the laws have to follow to be approved can take years.
746  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: JJG's Bitcoin Investment Ideas (Sustainable Withdrawal / Portfolio Maintenance) on: December 03, 2023, 08:02:12 AM
~snip

Lol. What happens with this guy? Is this an account created specifically to troll JJG?

Adding of the dollar value did really highlight that a 4% withdrawal rate is likely quite a bit too low in terms of a sustainable amount, even though it might be an acceptable withdrawal rate if the goal is to allow the account(s) to continue to grow... so if the goal would be to attempt to mostly maintain the value of the account,  most likely the withdrawal rate would need to be quite a bit higher than 4% per year, perhaps double or more.

I suppose we could take advantage of this depending on the personal moment we find ourselves in. If we are at retirement age it would be more reasonable to have a higher withdrawal rate and just try to maintain the value of the account, while if we are not retired or if we are but we do not have other assets, as we talked about in the previous post, it would be more logical to withdraw less and try to make the account still grow.
747  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bank stops all my payments to exchanges. Now what? on: December 03, 2023, 07:50:46 AM
This is not uncommon for certain amounts, but the best thing to do would have been to talk to your bank and tell them to allow you to make the payment. They cannot block a payment of your money to buy a legal asset.

The moral of the story is that they are blocking money that is yours, which means that the money we have in the bank is less ours than we think.

The paypal option is not bad, but in any case if PayPal discloses what the money is for, they will send it to the tax authorities in your country, not to the bank.
748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Paradox of Privacy and Decentralization: Banning Mixers on Bitcointalk.org on: December 03, 2023, 07:45:17 AM
The problem I see with this is that it is just one more step in saying goodbye to privacy in Bitcoin. Mixers have been banned here because it won't be long before there will be regulations expressly prohibiting them. I said it some time ago: services that serve to obfuscate the origin of funds cannot have much future.

The casinos that have been so important in the history of Bitcoin and Bitcointalk will have to end up operating like fiat casinos, with everyone perfectly identified from the beginning among other things.

We are on a seemingly unstoppable path of loss of privacy in general, and Bitcoin is not going to be an exception.

749  Other / Politics & Society / Re: French man attacks and kills tourist in Paris on: December 03, 2023, 07:35:32 AM
Sure, better to emphasize that he was French and was a man, only to then when the news says that he was a radical Islamist to qualify that he had mental problems. I do not know what happens that Europe is full of murders due to mental problems of that kind, because of course, Islamist radicals do not murder unless they have such problems.
750  Other / Archival / Re: 🌀 [banned mixer] - CoinJoin Mixer | Your Anonymity Is Our Priority! on: December 02, 2023, 12:55:36 PM
But, as far as I know, we will still be able to talk about the great articles provided by Unijoin, no ?  Grin
I am sure that we won't be banned if we talk about interesting articles!

I think we will be allowed to do that...

I was thinking that what happened in the forum would be enough to write another chapter of the book, even if it were a corollary, being a gloomy episode in the history of Bitcoin. That the forum Satoshi founded bans mixer advertising is no small matter.
751  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can you make gambling a profession - a full time job on: December 02, 2023, 03:21:08 AM
I think the answer to the thread is summed up in two of the answers already given:

My classmate was a guy of such sort. He really dedicated all his time to figuring out how to beat slot machines, exploring various loopholes. Nevertheless, he eventually ended up producing slot machines himself.

This is an example of how a dedicated gamer, spending a lot of time searching for the perfect strategy in the game and turning the game into his actual job, ultimately understood the system so well that he switched sides and stopped playing.

This would be the correct answer for EV-games, such as slots. The only way to make it a profitable profession is to be on the other side. Not of those who bet but of those who offer the service.

There is only one way to make gambling a profession and that is to become a professional player in the games of skill world like learning poker at that point that you can make a living out of it,I know people at Pokerstars who do just that.

This would be the correct answer for games of skill. The only thing is that people often underestimate the time, dedication and effort involved. Nowadays it is very professionalized and it is more and more difficult and takes more time and effort to become a professional, but it is possible. Although what is easier and within everyone's reach is to earn a little  monthly extra income with games of skill.
752  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 📝[Discussion topic] Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns📝 on: December 02, 2023, 03:12:34 AM
This sucks big time. Signature campaigns will be effectively limited to casinos.

Not only casinos. There are also exchanges that advertise on the forum, such as Best Change or eXch.cx, although they advertise much less than casinos.

For January I would expect a drop in available signature campaigns, but I think that little by little there will be a reorganization, and maybe some casinos and exchanges will take the opportunity to advertise more, and also other services that are not advertised now or advertised currently as mixers that will be reinvented to meet the new rules, such as bitcoin to monero exchangers or non custodial wallets with coinjoin.

Examples of things that are not banned mixers include exchangers (unless they have a mixing function), CoinJoin-supporting non-custodial wallets, and Monero.
753  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 02, 2023, 03:03:03 AM
I just looked at your trust page to figure out who left what, and I have no clue what you're talking about.  Did someone leave a neg for something you said related to the issue at hand, or do you have a persecution complex?  I'm genuinely curious.

Og might be thinking that someone excluded him for saying something nasty about mixers, but the reality is that he started attacking people for wearing Chipmixer signatures (like LoyceV and myself and a few others) after he got called out on his own shenanigans.

People tend to see the speck in the other's eye, and in Og's case he sees a lot of problems with mixers but apparently sees no problem with living in Arizona and advertising in his signature an illegal casino in the USA:

Why is Stake Illegal in US? | Alternatives

Back to the central theme of the thread, it's a bummer, but probably necessary to prevent greater evils, although it leaves the outlook for the future looking very bad indeed. Bitcoin transactions are on their way to becoming more and more like banking transactions, where the authorities know who is sending the money and who is receiving it. It's a thing that will take time if it eventually ends up happening that way, but that's the trend we're on.
754  Economy / Reputation / Re: Royse777 will not pay anyone for the last week /Sinbad campaign/ on: December 02, 2023, 02:50:24 AM
Good luck getting any support for that flag, any rational person would evaluate the accusation in its full context not just the part that says "Royse777 did not pay me"

There is no flag, as far as I can see.

But seriously, who wants to be on OFAC list for a hundred dollars or so?

No one. The fact that no one from his campaign has protested demanding that he be paid is significant. If I were the OP I would simply lock the thread because leaving him open looks like it will only garner more opinions against him.
755  Economy / Reputation / Re: Updated weekly: DT1-election: Rank up pipeline on: December 02, 2023, 02:45:02 AM
The interesting part is that theymos' algorithm could produce results uncomfortably far from the optimal solution. It would be interesting to see if you reach DT1.

Lol. Well, as you may know, in the end it seems that the imperfect and improvable algorithm favored me, achieving DT1 status at the bottom of the list.

Theymos reshuffled DT1.

Added:

30. Legendary Poker Player (Trust: +1 / =0 / -0) (1863 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)

In any case, once reached, personally nothing changes, but I did not expect to reach DT1 so soon.
756  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Spanish citizens to declare foreign crypto holdings by end of March 2024 on: December 01, 2023, 04:50:16 AM
Very much expected move! I am sure many other countries will follow the same path where it will be made mandatory to declare the crypto holdings of an individual. That includes both domestic and foreign exchanges.

Well that's on the one hand, the part of individuals, but legislation on the way from the EU also wants to force all service providers to KYC to the maximum, although it seems that some have some brains left and leave a €1,000 cap:

EU lawmakers impose €1,000 cap on anonymous crypto, cash transactions

Regarding this particular legislation, the "foreign" thing is a bit of a laugh. It seems that they assume that everyone has cryptocurrencies in exchanges, but you would have to see what they consider about people who have HW, because technically speaking they are neither in a country nor abroad, you from your HW have the private keys with which you manage those cryptocurrencies that are on the internet.
757  Other / Archival / Re: .... is down, why people leave negative feedback for LE? on: December 01, 2023, 04:40:37 AM
In my opinion there is nothing wrong with leaving negative feedback on that account as long as we don't know that it really belongs to FIOD from the Netherlands, which could be easily proven. Another thing is that it seems likely that it is, as JeromeTash comments, and that is a bit of a concern. Can you imagine the FBI creating an account in a similar situation?

758  Economy / Reputation / Re: After Sinbad, which mixer is Next To Be Shutdown? on: December 01, 2023, 04:31:27 AM

That's what I'm afraid of. We are heading towards societies where the public authorities will have total information about the population in real time with tools such as CBDCs and digital identity. It is only a matter of time before laws against mixers are passed. Since the administration is slow and passing laws takes a while, it's not going to happen tomorrow but I won't be surprised if in a couple of years or so we see the first anti-mixer legislation.
759  Other / Archival / Re: Wearing Bitcoin Clothing in Public on: November 30, 2023, 04:13:31 AM
As I see it, most people do not support this action of yours because it can endanger you by people with bad intentions.

Yes, in general it is a bad idea. It is one thing if you are in El Zonte (El Salvador) or Bitcoin Island and wear a Bitcoin t-shirt there, but wearing a t-shirt or other merchandising item with the Bitcoin symbol is putting a bullseye on yourself that all it has are risks and no benefits, so for me the decision is clear.
760  Economy / Economics / Re: Black Friday deals and your plan to hold bitcoins. on: November 30, 2023, 04:01:48 AM
This thread is another of several around the forum that is based on a false premise which has already been dismantled:

For example, a lot of individuals or bitcoin holders may sell significant amounts of their cryptocurrency during this time because they wish to purchase items that will affect their investments. Black Friday deals can affect your plan to hold bitcoins, and as an investor, you have to be careful and be disciplined enough to control yourself.

Most people are not going to rush to liquidate their bitcoins because they already have a bank account balance which they can use to take advantage of Black Friday deals and buy stuff.

It is very unlikely that this would be the case.

Within the total percentage of holders I do not deny that some may do this, but they will be a minority who do not act very intelligently with their investments, to say the least.
