1201  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do wager affect outcomes in any provably fair games on: August 06, 2023, 07:45:25 AM
I don't think so, in my opinion, it's just one of mind biases.

What you think is correct, even if you have no arguments to back it up other than that you simply think so. You have the reason in the first reply:

No...... there are no link between previous bets and future bets...

To think otherwise is a fallacy well known as the gambler's fallacy. But no matter how many times it is explained, there are hundreds of millions of people who think otherwise.
1202  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Reasons for Doing your own research on: August 06, 2023, 07:37:08 AM
I recommend DYOR not only for Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, but for personal finance, and life in general. Knowledge is power, and the more things you know the better.

Though doing your own research is an important aspect for personal growth but if one get false information then such person is doomed with it, except he/she get the truth before he/she becomes victimised which is  maybe unlikely. So please, how do I know a good source for legit information with consistency?

It is paradoxical that you write the post you have written and end up with that question, because based on research you should be able to answer it, but I advise you one thing: even when you have a reliable source of information, always be skeptical, because from time to time you can also sneak false information (on purpose or by neglect).
1203  Economy / Reputation / Re: Hhampuz using his position on forum to vindicate scams on: August 05, 2023, 07:48:45 AM
I don't know how the support looked like the day you created this thread, but "everyone" supporting the flags is simply wrong. They currently have only BitcoinGirl.Club from the DT club that supports them together with a few non-DT members.

If we take into account that the flags reference a post from April 19, and we read the neutral tag he left on May 6, I give even less weight to the flags.

1204  Economy / Economics / Re: Are short-term rentals to blame for the lack of housing? on: August 05, 2023, 07:38:17 AM
For country-level solutions, it's simple, build more! More housing than demand lowers the price making it more affordable.
Do nothing solution and wait, another thing that will work since the law of economics will start biting also, there is an influx of cash to the homeowners, there are people who spend more, thus prices in that region become higher, once the price becomes higher it becomes less attractive for most digital nomads who do this for cheap housing and start moving to the next city.

On a personal level, nothing that you can really do without compromises.
Earn more spend less or move away!
It sounds simple enough, even though that doesn't directly solve the housing crisis, as newly constructed blocks of flats are usually sold for personal occupation and are subject to extremely high prices. There's a block of flats being constructed here as we speak, and all the apartments have already been sold at extraordinary prices for the average citizen.

That's simply because it's in an area with little supply, and building a little doesn't expand the supply enough to bring prices down significantly.

I think the Airbnb phenomenon has been seen all over the world, and digital nomads is a growing phenomenon as well. If you are looking to rent in a city where prices have gone up because of it, you have several solutions, go further away from the center, and even to towns several kilometers away from the city, or rent something smaller or look for a way to increase income and be able to pay more.

What happens is that you see that your parents were able to pay for a house in a few years in an area of your city that is now considered downtown and where you can't even pay the rent. Well, you have to adapt to the new reality and act accordingly.
1205  Economy / Lending / Re: I want a 24 hours collateral btc loan. on: August 05, 2023, 07:25:04 AM
Why am I not surprised by this? I could smell trouble the moment I read his thread.

The following quote was prophetic:

You and Wolf are welcome back in a year or so and apologize to me, im in no rush and I am much bigger then both of you and don't let my feelings control my actions.

The thing about his emotions he demonstrates in almost every post, lol, and he continues with the idea:

See you next year Wolf.

Sign me up again for next year too, you seem to have forgotten about me.

I'm not buying it though: the email address was changed after suchmoon left OP negative feedback.

1206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Miami Mayor Francis Suarez to accept presidential donations in bitcoin on: August 05, 2023, 07:14:36 AM
Though Mayor Francis is a Bitcoiner, he has no chance of winning as president. RFK Jr who is more popular than him had proposed bigger stuff like backing the USD with BTC.

Sadly Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has little chance of winning.

I doubt Mayor Suarez has a good chance to become the next president of the country.

I see the bottle as half full. The next president of the USA will surely not be a bitcoiner, but the fact that certain candidates are bitcoiners gives very good publicity to the subject. I would like to see that in other parts of the world, that in the next presidential election there would be at least one pro bitcoin candidate.
1207  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: The story of Betnomi.com (Exit Scam) on: August 04, 2023, 11:20:00 AM
Carding as in copying/duplicating credit cards and "getting 18k worth of goods a month".

What Is Carding?
Carding is a general fraudster term for using stolen credit and debit card data for personal gain – which can be selling the data, using them to buy goods, or using them to power further fraud.

One of the employees of Betnomi had posted some screenshot of the conversation with Sorsis in 2020. Where Sorsis said that he "was carding over 18k USD worth of items weekly". Sorsis also claimed that he had compromised 28k computers by creating a rat (remote access trojan).

Lol. Since you could play poker at Betnomi, I was thinking of something like being good at cards, not this kind of fraud.

I imagine they took advantage of the "no one everyone is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt," which I've been talking about lately on the forum.
1208  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: The story of Betnomi.com (Exit Scam) on: August 04, 2023, 07:26:57 AM
The exit scam of Betnomi won't be a big thing for Sorsis if his carding story is true. There is no way to verify anything until someone meet him in real life. He could be an idiot too, you will know everything before us if you take steps with the information which you have acquired.

- the bragging about carding skills, aka literally scamming people (crime)

Can you explain what exactly "carding skills" means on this context, please? Because I have carding skills and I don't scam anyone. I must be missing something here.
1209  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Buying food with BTC on: August 04, 2023, 07:21:14 AM
I have seen some places that accept Bitcoin. Like a burger place I went to the other day, but it was run by a private individual who accepted bitcoin for payments, and in a cab recently as well. But in these threads I always say the same thing:

It would be nice to avoid Fiat altogether and use BTC to buy our life necessities.

What are you going to do? Save the fiat and spend the Bitcoin? It doesn't make sense. The only way it would make sense is if you get all or most of your income in Bitcoin, to avoid converting to fiat so you can spend but not even 1% of people are in that situation.
1210  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can you tell me the best indicator for long term investment? on: August 04, 2023, 05:23:33 AM
There is no need for any indicators in long-term investment, for example you invested in bitcoin ATH before $69K and the current price is $30K half ATH from the previous price, if you believe in the 4-year cycle then at $30K it is time to enter with your investment, while many speculators that the upcoming ATH is more than $100K.

Indicators are more precise on trading, but long-term investment is quite simple buy, then HODL.

This.

I was just thinking about the same thing.

I invest for the long term and I don't look at indicators. I look at the essential properties of Bitcoin and its history, which makes me think that the price will continue to rise more and more during the following cycles. Therefore, at what price I can buy now is not so important. I do DCA and that's it. But even if I had a lump sum to invest for the long term, holding it for a couple of cycles, I would invest it today at the price it is, because trying to get it right if the price goes up or down a bit is not going to make a significant difference in profitability, and you can always be wrong.
1211  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is the Binance the next to bite the dust or FUD? on: August 04, 2023, 05:13:02 AM
Why is America very much important for CZ and he is beginning to be so annoying for uncle Gary and the SEC?

For money, basically, and prestige. The GDP of the USA is $23.32B, while that of Belgium mentioned by Babygun is $0.6B. There is a big difference. Leaving the US and leaving Coinbase as number 1 there doesn't seem like an interesting move from a competitive standpoint either. Other than that I guess they will have a legal team looking at possible future actions, and the SEC has had a setback in court recently that you echoed.
1212  Other / Meta / Re: Search function stuck in pre 2020? on: August 04, 2023, 05:06:02 AM
Search function is not working properly. You can try using Google search and put site:bitcointalk.org after whatever you try to search.
If you could see my face you'd probably ask if I was rolling my eyes and laughing at you, but I'm not.  It's just so awful that one has to do what you described in order to search the forum--and I know damn well what you say is true; the search function is and has been broken for a long time now.

This does not happen only in the forum. I have repeatedly encountered sites that have an internal search engine that searches worse than google. And I guess not all of them are broken. In the end I go directly to google every time. It is worth considering whether it is worth having an internal search engine, although I guess that in this forum it makes much more sense to have one of its own.
1213  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: ~If you must trade~ on: August 03, 2023, 04:21:44 AM
But I had to narrow my scope to just the emotional and patient factors. I am sure many traders can relate better with this two factors compared to the rest this lead me to seek the answer from traders and prospective traders which do you think should be handled with more caution and between the two which has higher chances of helping a trader have at least 70% of total control of their profit cycle.

I don't see the difference here. Patience is an emotional component, it falls under emotional factors. It's not like the calculations you can do or the charts you can plot. And I think that in his answer dansus021 also speaks only of emotion, because he does not see that patience is something different from it.

Anyway, from the way you talk it seems that you have not had good experiences with trading, so I would tell you to consider a longer term investment in which emotions do not play such an important role.
1214  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My new favorite betting method. on: August 03, 2023, 04:04:32 AM
The logic behind this betting method isn't complex at all. You bet $2 on x2 and on the next bet you sum +1 to the bet amount and it looks something like this:

Code:
$2 - x2
$3 - x3
$4 - x4
$5 - x5
...
$10,000 - x10,000

It sounds to me like a variant of the Martingale, but more sophisticated.

...

You don't have an infinite bankroll. Eventually, you will hit a losing streak so large that it bankrupts you.
...

The casino sets its own betting limits based on its risk profiles. Nobody would take this bet because it could bankrupt a casino.

Precisely the reasons why it is impossible to win in Martingale.

Trying such a strategy temporarily because you want to complete some wagering requirements to level up, reach the VIP level in the room or something, I could understand it, but at the end of the day you are playing an EV-game. You will not be able to beat the HE, no matter what strategy you use.
1215  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did Bitcoin Bring a Smile to Your Face? How Did You Make It Happen? on: August 03, 2023, 03:55:10 AM
Well, the smiles I remember are from when we were in bull market and Bitcoin kept beating ATH after ATH. That was a couple of years ago, and I remember that all the predictions gave a price peak for the cycle much higher than it ended up being. But they were sweet times while they lasted. People who leave work to focus on Bitcoin are because they somehow set up a business related to it, or switch to a Bitcoin-related job. For those of us who invest a small part of our income, it's not enough.
1216  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation overpowers the value of money on: August 03, 2023, 03:45:14 AM
The causes of high inflation can be attributed to the following:
1. Excessive Government borrowing
2. Unwanted and unstable domestic policy
3. Unsatisfiable or lack of domestic production

You left out a very important one: high energy prices, which affect everything. If gasoline and electricity prices go up, you not only pay more to fill up the tank and for the electricity in your house, you will also pay more for groceries, for example.

In fact, the inflation we have been experiencing for a couple of years now is mainly due to energy prices and massive post-covid printing. Then it was exacerbated by the Ukrainian war, but it started earlier.
1217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Bitcoin was stolen from Atomic wallet on the 3rd of June on: August 03, 2023, 03:38:58 AM
Did they discover how their wallets were hacked?

It seems to be unclear, but in the thread on the subject they say this:

The hacked activities were made by their team who is behind on this major issue?  (because I'm thinking this way)
We can only speculate, but from what i have read about the hack, many people are suspecting this to be what happened, it was probably an inside job, maybe someone in their team added something malicious to their code, but until Atomic Wallet tells us what happened, we can only speculate, that's why closed source wallets aren't good.

The point is to avoid closed source wallets like the plague.

Its a warning as you have pointed out, dont trust Hot wallets, hardware wallets are the best places to store your Bitcoin and crypto.

Yes, but while you're at it, you'd better choose an open source one.
1218  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: August 02, 2023, 07:31:38 AM
I don't quite understand the addition of Timelord2067 to DT1. There are about 7 DT1s that trust him and about 17 that distrust him. Didn't he drop out of DT2 because of that?
1219  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for August on: August 02, 2023, 04:30:04 AM
Take a look at this Bitcoin Monthly Return 2023 Table, all the downs and ups each month have been recorded and it's just a matter of seeing what the market conditions are.

Source: https://bitcoinmonthlyreturn.com/

Interesting table. As I see it, the cycle-wise years that would correspond to this 2023 are negative return in August. So it happened in 2019, 2015 and 2011. Although history need not repeat itself, this makes me more pessimistic than I would have been at first, before seeing the table. And September has not historically been very good in this respect either. Hopefully the statistic will be broken this year.
1220  Other / Meta / Re: re: "how to earn merit" topics on: August 02, 2023, 04:15:27 AM
If you are referring to those who create these threads, not asking, but explaining, it is curious because it is clear that some are alts trying to fish for merit. Seeing someone who has little to no merits explain in detail in an OP how to get merits or write quality posts is a big LOL.
this reminds me of a user who talked about how plagiarism is bad and should be avoided, and then he got caught and reported plagiarising and then get banned because of it. I don't disagree with what he said but it's funny getting caught and banned for doing the things you warned people not to do.

Yes, well, speaking of curious cases, there have also been some cases of people protesting in the Reputation section for a tag (sometimes even for a neutral tag) that what they have done with it is to draw the attention of the DTs, who ended up discovering more dishonest behaviors such as ban evading, merit abusing, etc. and ended up with many more red tags.

The question is why would a newbie even come to the forum and begin to create this kind of topic, even if the newbie was referred to the forum by a friend who really told them how the forum works. But it's not ethical to just come aboard as a newbie and Begin to claim that he or she knows everything.

Well, as I said, I believe that in most cases they are alts. The simplest explanation is usually the correct one and in this case it is simpler to think that there is someone who knows the forum and knows that merits are usually given to newbies in the B&H section, who tries to farm up another account with threads like that to get merit. That it is a new person on the forum who makes that kind of thread because he was referred to the forum by a friend seems unlikely to me.
