1501  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling is not a steady income haven on: June 10, 2023, 04:03:02 AM
Making a living from gambling would never be advisable because it will be difficult for us to win. We can only play gambling for fun; if we are lucky to win, that is a bonus for us, but we don't need to continue playing gambling because that can make us experience defeat. It's better for us to find other ways to make money so we don't feel like we're losing money, especially from gambling. Once we can find a way to make money, we can use a small part to gamble to get the two things we want. We have to be wise regarding gambling because many people have lost and run out of money at the gambling table.

What you say seems to me to be extremely reasonable and is what I recommend for casino games, which is what I think the discussion in this thread has focused on. However, I would like to remind you that playing poker you can obtain positive results in the long term, that is to say, you can win money on a regular basis. It is not the only discipline poker, also sports betting and it seems that horse racing, I do not know if any more.

Winning poker players do not usually like poker to be included in the concept of gambling, but for legal purposes it is.
1502  Economy / Economics / Re: US Advisory on Payment App Risks and Bitcoin’s Position as a Secure Alternative on: June 10, 2023, 03:51:17 AM
Same here - but I don't really trust banks even though they offer annual interest as funder's benefit. I tend to think that my money will only be safer when I keep it private in a safe - this is meant to be a solution to prevent the bank from preventing me from withdrawing all my money when one or two problems occur.

Well, a safe, despite its name don't think it's very safe if the thieves know what they're doing. What it is better for is to have your money at your disposal immediately but I don't know about how much you are referring to as in Europe it doesn't help to have a lot of cash because there are countries with cash payment limits as low as €1.000 ($1.075).

I know asset diversification is a smart option - but banks are becoming less and less trusted as safe depositories for much of our money over the long term. You know that the bank gets very suspicious when we want to withdraw all the funds from the account - so they're bound to ask us a few questions where we want to spend it.

That is if you have a lot of money in the bank. Tens of thousands of dollars at least. Amounts like $5K you can have in the bank and you won't have any problems withdrawing it and much more depending on the country.
1503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Crypto another form of gambling? on: June 10, 2023, 03:41:51 AM
Now, do you agree that crypto should be seen as a form of gambling?

Some people behave when dealing cryptocurrencies like when they go to the casino, so yes, it is somewhat similar. What I do not agree with is that the regulation is the same. The same thing happens with the stock market, there are those who trade like those who go to the casino and you can imagine how they end up. But there are intelligent investors who make a good profit from the stock market. Therefore, for me the regulation of cryptocurrencies should be more similar to the existing regulation on the stock market.

Lol:

"an exchange with what appears to be an inbuilt mixer for inbound/outbound transactions"
Every exchange, casino and bank (!!) is a "mixer" to the outside world. Not all information has to be public.

 Grin

I don't have much technical knowledge, but even I know that. With a basic knowledge of how transactions work you know that casinos and exchanges consolidate inputs in certain addresses and when making withdrawal payments they do them from those addresses, so for an external observer those coins are mixed, there is no need to "build in" anything.
1505  Economy / Lending / Re: I want to borrow $250,000. I hv BTC as collateral. What lender do you recommend? on: June 09, 2023, 07:36:31 AM
But how would you like to receive the 250k? Like cash or bank transfer? In any case, it is not a very simple thing.

This is key. Even if the OP has no history or reputation on the forum the deal could hypothetically be done through a trusted escrow. The only advantage I see of doing it here on the forum is that it would be P2P, which is not small if he cares about his privacy, but if not, there are entities that can give him the loan putting the Bitcoin as collateral.

The other issue, OP, is that it is a very large amount, and the lenders on the forum will have seen or will soon see your post. If there is someone with that amount willing to do the deal they will contact you or post here, but I think any of the lenders here have a lot of track record and great reputation.
1506  Economy / Economics / Re: US Advisory on Payment App Risks and Bitcoin’s Position as a Secure Alternative on: June 09, 2023, 06:10:23 AM
This being a financial watchdog , naturally they are going to tell us to store our funds in a bank, it being "FDIC insured" and all. But we all here know better than that, right? Non-custodial wallets are the best, should you use them properly.

Yes, non-custodial wallets are the best, but I prefer to have my net worth diversified. Bitcoin in HW, money in the bank, stocks and mutual funds in broker, a small amount of gold and RE. If something happens to one of my assets I still have another.

And it is not my case but cash in a bank I would have up to the limit guaranteed by the Government which is already high enough, and it doesn't make much sense to have more than that amount and not have it invested.
1507  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can bitcoin die? on: June 09, 2023, 05:48:45 AM
Everything that is born or created at some point dies or ends, although I think you are specifically referring to whether Bitcoin could "die" in a short period of time, say 10 years from now, not 1,000.

Impossible it is not, but extremely unlikely. It's a question that made more sense in the early years, but now, with the level of adoption, even institutional, with El Salvador having Bitcoin as legal tender, it's extremely improbable.

1508  Economy / Reputation / Re: who is JayJuanGee is he or she a human? on: June 09, 2023, 05:43:10 AM
It seems JJG had not read this thread until today. We can see that he has given out a few merits earlier today to posts in this thread, and I doubt very much that he wouldn't have done it earlier if I hadn't discovered it. Also, it sounds to me like he doesn't have any forum notification system enabled.

In any case, it looks like we have two AI-enhanced humans on the forum so far. JJG and DdmrDdmr. Could we add someone else to the list?

1509  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bkex Locked Users off Their Money For 9 days and Counting.. on: June 08, 2023, 04:29:00 AM
There is something shady: why suspend withdrawals and don't lock deposits?
Also on they webpage there isn't any warning about: so they want people continue to deposits?  Huh

This look like an exit scam. Hope i'm wrong....

That's the first thing I thought of but now there is a link about the suspension of withdrawals as soon as you enter the on top page.

Quote
BKEX Announcement on Suspension of Withdrawals

And it leads to the page cited by the OP. Anyway, I don't know why it took them so long to put it up but it sounds fishy because withdrawals had been suspended for 9 days already yesterday, no matter how much they want to appear honest now putting the explanation visible on top.
1510  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Understanding the Dynamics of growing in ranks in the forum on: June 08, 2023, 03:52:36 AM
I am a newbie. And though I read a lot before registering on the forum, well I still need clarity and detailed explanation on how I can successfully grow in ranks in this forum.

The first thing I'm going to do is to welcome you.

That said, I have to say that expecting us to hand you something on a platter that you can easily find on your own doesn't give me a very good impression. Besides the fact that your interest in the ranks makes me think that you are more interested in climbing the ranks to earn money than in participating in the forum out of genuine interest. It would give me a much better impression if after having read as much as you are supposed to have done, you would like us to help you understand more about Bitcoin, for example how it works, what are its most debated issues, like scalability and second layer solutions, things like that.

You need to read and search before posting. [Guide] Searching effectively

In 2023 it should be obvious, and also by simply using the forum regularly he would learn these things without having to explicitly search right at the beginning when he's just registered.
1511  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is ready for $40k on: June 08, 2023, 03:40:03 AM
Yes of course, getting ready for $40K but the question is when. Considering that it is a 50% return from the current level I don't think we will get there this month, as I see no reason for a parabolic rise like the ones that occur in bull markets. On a more sustained basis I would expect us to reach $50K in the coming months, as well as $50K, because if a pattern similar to previous cycles is repeated, the pre-halving year should see such a rise, followed by a subsequent fall, to enter the bull run proper after the halving.
1512  Economy / Economics / Re: To Hodl or Lend: What is your take? on: June 08, 2023, 03:30:04 AM
What is your honest take on bitcoin lending?

It's just BS. Bitcoin is already profitable enough in itself to give up your private keys for a small extra percentage of profitability. It's not worth it, it doesn't make any mathematical sense.

The best thing to do with Bitcoin is long term B&H, for at least one cycle, or DCA. When I say minimum one cycle I don't mean sell it all in the next cycle, you can sell a small part of your holdings. On how to accumulate over time and make partial sales at certain times, JayJuanGee has detailed explanations in several forum threads that, in my opinion, are very accurate.

What happens is that the most profitable and safe thing to do is boring, which is not usually liked by eager traders or lenders.
1513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I was shocked that my Neighbor also used bitcoin as mode of payment on: June 08, 2023, 03:22:43 AM
Finally, someone sees the way I see using Bitcoin as means of payment, it doesn't make sense to buy something you can eat using 1$ or more as transaction fee, how much is the thing you trying to pay for? It's not just worth it.

There are several of us who have raised this point in the thread but so far the OP has not come back here to clarify it. Let's hope that this does not become a spam mega thread in which the OP opens a thread and does not deign to come back here.

Does anyone willing to pay bitcoin?

That's the central question of the thread, and as skeptical as I am it makes me think it's BS, a made up story like the many you see around here to meet the weekly quota, as well as trying to fish for some merit.
1514  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Established members and newbies on: June 07, 2023, 06:55:47 AM
Obviously you are using indirect way to seek and campaign for merit by sugar-coated some words concerning merit, let me inform you, merit doesn't come through this process...

That's what I thought. It's a typical post in this section of someone trying to fish for merit by talking about merit. Usually they are users who have not achieved any merit so far, and sometimes they get lucky and achieve their goal. That's why we have threads like this every now and then. For my part I don't see that they are worthy of merit, and I act accordingly.
1515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I was shocked that my Neighbor also used bitcoin as mode of payment on: June 07, 2023, 06:46:00 AM
Nice story, but, assuming it's true, it doesn't seem to me the best time to accept Bitcoin payments in a physical store, being the fees to get a transaction confirmed in the next block around $2. If I'm going to buy $10 worth of items in the store why should I have to wait ten minutes on average and pay a 20% fee if paying with cash I don't pay fees and I don't have to wait.

Using LN would make more sense, but you would have to open a channel with each customer, so neither.

1516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Deciding to save money in Bitcoins for the future of the child on: June 07, 2023, 06:38:31 AM
I see several issues here that the OP has not yet answered, such as where he plans to store those Bitcoin holdings.

Being from Bangladesh, I don't know if he will be someone rich from there, but if he is not, he better keep the Bitcoin for himself and in the future his son will already inherit. That of keeping something for your son if tomorrow you may have financial problems, I do not see it.

Better to build up an estate little by little and have as much Bitcoin as you see fit, always planning a system so that your heirs can manage the private keys if you die unexpectedly.
1517  Economy / Speculation / Re: Time to Hodl or buy the Dip? on: June 07, 2023, 04:37:02 AM
... at the price of $25k do you think it is a good opportunity to Hodl or buy the Dip in the current market?

Both. You HODL what you have and keep buying. Like Oshondy says:

My advice for now is to continue to DCA.

Trying to time the market is very difficult and most times counterproductive. DCA is better but it is not necessary to follow the simple DCA strategy, which consists of always buying exactly the same amount on the same day and at the same regular interval. You can take advantage of low market moments to buy more and bullish moments, when ATHs are beating, to make partial sales. We are now clearly in the first case.
1518  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Atomic Wallet hacker sends crypto to mixer used by Lazarus Group: Elliptic on: June 06, 2023, 08:42:42 AM
First, I believe that the appropriate board for this topic is not Reputation, but Service Discussion.

Seems to me that it's going to be a bad day for Sinbad.io and the people that's promoting them with campaign signatures.

Are there any mixers that will get rid of this? By their nature, apart from serving privacy-conscious people, mixers will also attract scammers who want to launder money. Or is there a mixer that is going to reject funds for mixing because they are "tainted"? I don't think so.
1519  Economy / Reputation / Re: Stake flags for ponzi schemes here on: June 06, 2023, 04:58:19 AM
Just because one person says "You're wrong!" doesn't make it right - the rest is just an echo chamber.

 Huh

What about 10 people saying you're wrong?

Lol. So, I've just seen the locked thread in question and what I think is: how much time wasted and how much energy in dismantling a conspiracy that only he believed, right? I see you took your time in dismantling his arguments very rationally, which I see commendable. I don't have so much patience for that. That's why some time ago I used the wonderful ignore button.
1520  Economy / Economics / Re: Getting an MBA before starting a company or directly starting a company? on: June 06, 2023, 04:36:30 AM
It depends on the business you want to set up. Fifty years ago the answer was clearly: start the business. Today, if you know the sector very well, you have a clear idea of what you want to do and you have a certain idea of doing business, you can start, but to scale the business you will probably have to hire people who have MBAs. This is if we are talking about a business as such that can be scaled, if what we are talking about is a small freelance business, as if you open a physical store where you sell things, such as a greengrocer, you would not need it.
