1181  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sudden Wealth Syndrome (SWS) In Gambling on: August 10, 2023, 07:23:12 AM
Do you think people who have a chance to make a lot of money should be aware of this

I think the probability for the average citizen is so low, like winning millions in the lottery, that it is not worth spending a lot of time worrying about it.

and do you know what you're going to do if you won a big amount of money?

If there were many millions, a part, at least 10%, would be donated. The rest I would invest in such a way that I could live with passive income and dedicate my time to whatever I wanted, and the rest I would squander without any consideration. Even if I have been managing my finances well for a long time and I have become rich, the possibility that I could win an exorbitant amount all at once scares me a little. Having a lot of money, no obligations and all the time in the world ends up with more than one in rehab or dead from overdoses, things like that.
1182  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Control of wallets with a balance of $10,000 or more in the USA when buying good on: August 10, 2023, 05:51:17 AM
I do not find this surprising. It is in line with AMLs policies in general. What I also believe is that these thresholds will be lowered over time, in the same way that cash payment limits have been lowered, or the limits above which bank transactions are reported to the IRS or equivalents in other countries. The public authorities want cashless societies and totally controllable, economically speaking, and they move towards that path little by little, slowly boiling us like a frog that does not realize it.
1183  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Invoices through Crypto on: August 10, 2023, 05:44:58 AM
I see no point at all using invoices in crypto.

All blockchain transactions are open and you can see all of them for free. Why would you pay 1% to see the transaction in the blockchain?

I don't see the point either, but not only for that reason. I can issue you an invoice using their service in the same way that I can write on a piece of paper with a pen that you have paid me x amount with x thing or in a pdf document. But an invoice to be legal you have to be registered as self-employed or a company, if not, it is not an invoice is rather a private receipt. The receipt you can do as you wish, I do not see that your service provides anything to pay 1% more fees, and besides as you say the proof of payment is in the blockchain.
1184  Other / Meta / Re: Igebotz Nigerian Local Board Merit Source Application on: August 09, 2023, 06:25:20 AM
Are we even sure theymos even reads these threads? He hasn't really been so active posting lately, just the dt log.

I will support this as well.

I am pretty sure he reads, especially Meta threads. Another thing is that he doesn't write much, but that doesn't mean he doesn't read.

I support the Igebotz application, just as I repeatedly supported the creation of the local board for the large Nigerian community on Bitcointalk. I think the board would do better with Brainboss having some help as a merit source, and as far as I know, theymos now has at least two to choose from, Charles-Tim and Igebotz.
1185  Other / Archival / Re: 🌀 [banned mixer] - CoinJoin Mixer | Your Anonymity Is Our Priority! on: August 09, 2023, 06:04:32 AM
For these things it is always good to have a PO box, regardless of how much we trust the forum member who is going to send us the cards or other physical items, because this way he/she simply knows more or less where we live, but not the exact address. He doesn't know if we live next to the post office or 5 or 30 kilometers away (because it is a post office that is close to our work, for example). Although POs boxes are not usually cheap, it is worth getting one if you are going to use it regularly.
1186  Economy / Economics / Re: New Research found Work from home workers to be less productive on: August 09, 2023, 05:48:03 AM
These researchers found that if you work from home you will be less efficient and productive than people who from their office. Can we say the same about freelance workers?

It depends on the type of work. If you are a freelance article writer and you are paid per article written, you don't need to go to the office and you can work from anywhere in the world. Besides, you are not employed in the company's staff, you are paid as an external. Now, in most office jobs, what you've seen is this: everyone has some downtime when what is the main task they have to do runs out. If you're at home, when you're done with the task, you go watch TV, lay on the couch or whatever, but if you're in the office and you see your bosses walking by you find things to do so they don't see you standing around, like organizing old files, going to talk to the partner or section chief about how to change the website and things like that.
1187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin decentralization debate on: August 09, 2023, 05:37:04 AM
I wouldn't waste too much time with people who tend to believe in conspiracy theories. In the end, rational arguments do not convince them.

In this case, simply by him studying a bit about what bitcoin is and how it works, if he wasn't too narrow minded, he would understand. There is some centralization, as ranochigo comments, but compare that with how almost all shitcoins or the fiat system work, and you will see that bitcoin is much more decentralized than these.
1188  Economy / Reputation / Re: Hhampuz using his position on forum to vindicate scams on: August 09, 2023, 05:24:56 AM
I don't see what the problem is with the OP using an alt to make this case, I'm with DireWolfM14 on this. What I also don't see much point in continuing the thread, because what the title says is false to begin with, and from the time the OP created the thread until now, what that statement has done is even lose more strength. Continuing the thread is only going to further piss off the OP, as you can see, and others. So my advice is also to lock it.
1189  Economy / Speculation / Re: Adam Back's Bullish Bet on: August 08, 2023, 09:33:36 AM
Do you think Adam Back's prediction is realistic? Are you as bullish as him?

Not very realistic. It's not impossible for that to happen, but if the pattern of this cycle resembles previous ones in Bitcoin's short history, there is no way the price will surpass the $69K ATH in what's left until halving. Patterns need not repeat themselves indefinitely, however, and this cycle is an example of that, but on a downward trend.

But as mentioned, him betting only $300 is not very bullish.

1190  Economy / Exchanges / Re: *warning* Huobi insolvency rumours on: August 08, 2023, 09:18:56 AM
If I had even just one satoshi there, I would have withdrawn it from Huobi by now.

Normally, when the first rumor of insolvency reaches us, we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg, so it is best to act as soon as possible. This, in addition to the fact that, as has been said, it is not advisable to leave your Bitcoin in centralized exchanges. But if for whatever reason you have the money there (let's imagine that you have an amount with which you trade), better withdraw ASAP and look for a more reliable site to trade.
1191  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: do anyone have done this? with gambling platforms on: August 08, 2023, 06:17:45 AM
anyone deposited very less amount and luckily won a big jackpot like a 100x or 500x or 1000x of base bet and withdrawn without kyc or without facing any problem from the platform?

if yes, how much was that amount? and what was the casino?

i seen many people complaining about they don't give big wins easily or just don't give by making unanswerable queries like very hard KYC, freezing accounts, etc. this problem is very common with trusted casino's also/

I don't play a lot of casino games, but I have gotten some 100X. What you have to think is that in casino games, if you get a 100X it is because the objective probability that you get it is lower. In other words, it will take you on average more than 100 times to get a 100X, this is what is known as negative expected value. Apply it to 500X or whatever amount.

In poker the closest thing, although in this case it may be EV+, would be to win multi-table tournaments, and I don't play many but over the years, I have won some and other times I have reached the final table or other prize positions.
1192  Economy / Economics / Re: Big companies will never let you have the financial freedom on: August 08, 2023, 05:56:17 AM
How shocking, eh?

I don't know if you have stopped to think about the fact that you are only presenting the consumer's point of view. Of course, if you are a consumer, companies are not even going to think about your financial freedom.

Become an investor in those companies, or create one, and see if things change.

I am talking about companies in general, not only in the crypto world. The example you give of the Paypal stablecoin does not surprise me, a centralizedshitcoin and that they can freeze. What you should not do is to use it.
1193  Economy / Economics / Re: Europe unemployment rate hits record low, employment record up on: August 07, 2023, 07:11:37 AM
It is nice to see threads of this positive style.

On top of that, we have to add to this 3.5 million work permits issued this year for foreigners that want to work in this craphole called EU.

This is a good sign. If the EU were a shithole, no one would want to go to work there.

Anyway, within the positivity, can you think of any negative aspects, or do you leave those to the critics? For example, over-regulation and an energy policy that could be improved are two weak points, but even so, the EU is better off than many parts of the world that are shitholes.
1194  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: The story of Betnomi.com (Exit Scam) on: August 07, 2023, 06:50:50 AM
Why wasn't Betnomi booted from the forum if warning signs were there from the very beginning. Could it be they've gained trusts because of sig campaigns and paying for competitions?

Because of what I commented before. The trust system is a fact finding system, a posteriori, rather than a preventive system, which is how I think it should be used.

So, the majority opinion is that this type of cases in the forum should be treated as if it were a criminal case in which someone is only convicted when there is evidence beyond reasonable doubt. Then, potential scammers take advantage of it. Just by being careful they can scam or set the stage for it for a while.

And then what happens is that when they have already scammed a lot of money and don't show up on the forum again, then they get 17 red tags on their profiles and flags massively supported, when it's too late.
1195  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [don't have such a mindset] Bitcoin accumulation/investment not a competition. on: August 07, 2023, 06:42:23 AM
Damn, the supposed friends of the OP have money to compete to see who can buy more whole Bitcoins. I see it as not being a competition in finance in general, not just with Bitcoin. When you improve your financial situation, do it within your means and don't compare yourself to others who are much better off than you, because if you want to get where they are you're probably going to try too fast and with too many risks, which will probably leave you worse off than when you started.

Whether accumulating Bitcoin or with your wealth building plan, be a turtle that progresses slowly but surely. This is not about buying jets and private islands, it's about getting better and better as the years go by.
1196  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BlackRock owns 8% of MicroStrategy on: August 07, 2023, 06:30:13 AM
It's still quite fearsome because we all know that they won't just keep on buying Bitcoin. A time will come that they'll have to sell, dump and get profit from it but we don't know when.

Not necessarily. If we listen to what Saylor says, they are not going to sell Bitcoin, and in any case if they need liquidity, they will borrow against it. According to the theory, an asset that does not stop appreciating, you can refinance it and spend the cash without selling and having to pay capital gains tax. This is how many billionaires do it.

Another thing is to what extent we trust Saylor, but in this respect I would not be surprised if he would follow that plan, perhaps with some small exception such as selling a small amount as he already did for tax purposes:

Bitcoin’s biggest buy-and-hold evangelist sells BTC for first time ever after spotting lucrative U.S. tax loophole
1197  Economy / Reputation / Re: Stop see alt's everywhere you look! on: August 07, 2023, 06:23:36 AM
Okay, now who's stalking whom?

Did he send you that message via Telegram?

But I'm sorry, I have no interest in meeting you face to face unless you reform yourself from the shady scammer you've proven yourself to be.

I would be quite wary of meeting someone from the forum IRL, but if I ever do it will be someone with a much better reputation than this one, and who does not show signs of mental instability and anger issues.
1198  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: The story of Betnomi.com (Exit Scam) on: August 06, 2023, 12:57:17 PM
Is it 'no one' or 'everyone'?

It's obviously "everyone". Thanks for pointing that out, I've edited it.
1199  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Introducing: the bitcoin cycle calculator on: August 06, 2023, 08:09:44 AM
The thing is Bitcoin cycle is independent to the previous cycle because the event and circumstances makes every cycle unique and unpredictable using calculations.

Hmm, the cyclical analysis doesn't guarantee any type of exact information related to the market price or rally, it just presents how the rally can go all the way long in the longer time frame.

I agree. I would not want to disappoint the OP too much but I am not confident that the tool will help us too much, predictively speaking.

After years in this volatile and unpredictable market, I focus more on fundamental charts with historic cycles and market psychological cycle. I don't use too many technical indicators and charts and avoid to make predictions which are all inaccurate and useless.

Same here. I couldn't have said it better.
1200  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can 1 satoshi be worth $1 in the future? on: August 06, 2023, 07:58:56 AM
Who is John Galt? explained well. It's not mathematically impossible, but I don't think it will happen in a time frame that we can see. For this to happen, both the dollar must depreciate enormously and Bitcoin must rise rapidly. In such an environment, 1 sat = 1 dollar won't make much sense anyway. I would focus on the rate of 1 sat = 1 cent. We're much more likely to see that in the future.

That would be 1 Bitcoin= $1M. Many of us dream of it and it has been predicted several times that it would come faster than it actually will, starting with John McAfee, who predicted it for 2020.

I believe it will eventually arrive but by then $1M will be worth considerably less than it is now.

Two and a half years ago I proposed,
without much success it must be said, to call bitcoinaires those who had a net worth equivalent to the price of a median US home at that time, and 10 times the median US household income. That was equivalent to $1M at that moment. With inflation, as of today a bitcoinaire should have about $1.15M of net worth, following the definition.

By the time Bitcoin reaches $1M the median house in the USA if it hasn't reached $1M it won't have much left. I estimate that by then bitcoinaire should have about $2 and $3M in then dollars.
