1701  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Apr 2023] Fees quite low! Use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: May 01, 2023, 08:15:36 AM
That poor sap will learn the cheapest lesson possible: don't act on headlines but actually read and understand before doing Smiley If he learns this lesson here instead of in "invest your pension in cloud mining", I call that a win.

Well, it's true that it looks clickbait and if the poor sap reads the OP he will see that you are talking about a good time to consolidate there, although it was written on January 30, 2018. Let's hope that he also reads the last page of the thread.

What was the reason?  The device went bad fast or was it the data leak?

The data leak. At least that we know of it happened twice.

1703  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ledger Order Help on: May 01, 2023, 04:42:36 AM
Thanks.  So you have ordered from them more than once then?

Of course I haven't ordered from that crappy company more than once. Once and no more.

This is my second time.  If so, you used same email or that shouldn't matter?

The second time works like when you order a second time from another company in general, if you use the same email address you will still receive the promotional emails that you already received, if you put another one you will receive those emails to your two different email addresses but for the purpose of the order going through there is no difference.

Also when trying to make the order, you have to put your phone number right?

Yes, usually for the courier, just in case.

Also... it seems there is option for Fedex or DHL?  That normal?  Thought they only ship DHL to the US

I don't know about that.
1704  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ledger Order Help on: May 01, 2023, 03:59:28 AM
On ledger site when making order, it ask for your email address.  A while back years ago i did order and use email and plan to use same email for this order.  Any issue with that?  As of now i still get those ledger emails.

Wasn't it exposed in the Ledger database hack? Mine was and since then I receive a lot of spam but apparently no more data was leaked.

I consent to receiving emails from Ledger about products, updates, and industry news.

Do I check that or not?

I never check it.

My email already gets those ledger emails.  I must have checked it last time years ago when i bought a nano device? So the part above the bold is for everyone but the bold part is your option?  However, i'm already subscribed to ledger emails.

Then I don't know why you are asking. If what you want to do is to stop receiving them what you have to do is uncheck and then in the last promotional email you received from them go to the unsubscribe option.

Want to make sure the order goes through.

It doesn't affect the order. I always leave that option unchecked for orders and get them.
1705  Economy / Economics / Re: I bought Apple stock because iPhones are garbage. on: April 30, 2023, 08:44:08 AM
Iphone is a great product and apple is a great company. I don’t understand why you said their phones are garbage. They outlive every android product in existence. People still use IPhone 6s’s today and they still work fine. How many years passed since Ip6s happened? 7? 8? I think their stock is always a good buy too. Every investor should own some aapl in his portfolio.

I agree about the company but not about the product. How many people still use the Iphone 7? It won't be even 1% of Iphone users. Apple has a great business precisely because of the opposite, because they have a lot of people (many of low incomes) that go running to change their Iphone for the new one, in many cases refinancing it.

In the consumerist world we live in, the business is to sell a lot of phones, every year if you can, and in that Apple has a big business.

1706  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can i make 100 $ daily from online casinos on: April 30, 2023, 05:11:57 AM
But it take back profit.. I have 2k balance.. is there method

To get 100 $ per day

I don't usually comment in this kind of mega-threads but just in case, to the OP and whoever reads this, I will say that although it is theoretically feasible, this would be very difficult, even for someone skilled in poker, which is a game where you can make money in the long run, unlike casino games.

With $2K you could play NL100 having an aggressive bankroll management in a high traffic volume site like Pokerstars, where a mediocre winner earns about 3bb/100, an average one about 5bb/100 and a good one about 8bb/100.

In Pokerstars you can play up to 8 zoom tables but I would not recommend playing more than 4 because it stresses a lot and the winrate is affected downwards. With 4 you would make 1000 hands per hour. So, assuming an average winrate of 5bb/100 is $50 an hour, and $200 in 4 hours of play.

The reality? NL100 winners rarely make more than $2k a month, which works out to about $65 a day.

The hypothetical assumption posed is very weak because the tables today are very tough, and having only 20 level stacks it is a matter of time before a bad streak forces you down a level, and if you don't go down I go bust. The average winrates in zoom are low because it is a modality full of regulars and even the fish select the starting hands, and so on.

With a lot of dedication, time and effort, it is more realistic to reach $50 a day, but if you start today it may take you at least a year to reach that level with the necessary knowledge and practice.
1707  Economy / Economics / Re: I bought Apple stock because iPhones are garbage. on: April 30, 2023, 04:58:27 AM
In my country the iPhone is the most sought-after product and many people are even willing to buy it on credit, even though they don't have cash because it's hard to get a job nowadays. What I saw in this product is nothing special, more or less the same as other products such as Samsung. They have controlled the market and generally use this product by the upper middle class, but unfortunately in my country there are almost many teenagers who extort their parents to buy these goods. The goal is nothing but to show his friends that they are people who can afford it and no longer buy products based on user needs.

This is what I mean, Iphone purchases are usually more emotional than rational, almost of faith I would say. A lot of people expectantly awaiting the unveiling of each new Iphone and lining up to buy it when the reality is that it's a little less shitty than the last one and that a $300 Android works just as well if not better.

It is also a way of trying to appear status, in a crude way, because if you have a Ferrari you are seen with status but almost nobody can afford it. On the other hand, people with very low income believe that with the apple on the back of the phone they look like they have a certain status or prestige.
1708  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What would the Bitcointalk Forum be like without Signature Campaigns? on: April 30, 2023, 04:25:39 AM
This as far as I remember has been discussed other times already, and the general consensus is usually that traffic would be reduced a lot.

If you compare this data with any other board, you will find that by removing signature campaigns, the number of content in the forum will decrease by an estimated percentage, and 95% of accounts may stop posting.

Most likely. Signature campaigns incentivize posting, and just as they can incentivize posts of mediocre quality in the Gambling section, for example, they also incentivize posts of great quality.

Many of the people who use their time in this forum and earn money, if they stopped earning money here they would surely find ways to earn money elsewhere on the internet, so it would be normal for them to leave this forum and dedicate themselves to it.

1709  Economy / Economics / Re: I bought Apple stock because iPhones are garbage. on: April 30, 2023, 04:11:28 AM
Wait, so did you actually buy Apple stock or not?

Yes I did. But I did it for the opposite of what would be logical at first glance: it would be logical for me to have bought shares because I believe they sell good products, and I did it for the opposite, because they sell bullcrap at the price of gold.

Would this mean that you already have enough Bitcoins (I am not sure what that means though) and you started diversifying? Cheesy

My conception of how much Bitcoin to own is far from that of the maximalist user of this forum. I have not started diversifying now, I have been diversifying for a long time, my Bitcoin holdings are a small part of my net worth. Having all your net worth in Bitcoin is too risky IMO. Anyway, tech stocks like Apple are second only to Bitcoin in profitability over the last 15 years. It's not like I've stopped buying Bitcoin to buy some asset that gives me a 2% annual return.
1710  Economy / Economics / I bought Apple stock because iPhones are garbage. on: April 29, 2023, 03:32:02 PM
So, I had been an Android user for a long time, specifically a high-end Samsung, except once when I got a Huawei or Xiaomi as a present, I don't remember.

I recently decided to buy an Iphone to see for myself what was good about it and compare it with Android, because I had seen eternal debates on the internet and I preferred to decide for myself.

I bought the Iphone 14, paid in cash, without insurance or shit, and after a few weeks of use, the only thing I see better than Android is the camera. The operating system sucks, and has disadvantages like it sucks to copy and paste conversations on Whatsapp, or not being able to edit a word you are writing when you see that you made a mistake in a letter without deleting the whole word. The swype keyboard sucks. The same for phone numbers: if you make a mistake while typing or you copy and paste a phone number and you want to add the international prefix, you can't do it, you have to delete the whole number and write it again without the error or with the prefix at the beginning, depending on the case.

In the end, I think it's at the very least equal to, if not worse than any $300 Android, which I came to the conclusion that if Apple has managed to sell shit at a gold price, I wanted to be part of the deal and have bought Apple stock.

I know people with low incomes that finance the Iphone for 24 months and when the new one comes out they go to get it by refinancing (although they also get a discount for returning the old one).

Apple has managed with the Iphones to sell an idea of status or prestige that has no justification in the quality of the product, but in the faith that their followers have in them.

Therefore, I think it will continue to be a very good business for many years to come.
1711  Other / Off-topic / Re: Working over 20 years still poor on: April 29, 2023, 03:46:32 AM
The same work some do for 5 years and make it in life, other may do it for over 20 years and still feed from hand to mouth. Can we conclude that such are individual destiny?

Look, I'm going to speak plainly because with that mentality you're not going to progress in life. To talk about destiny is to have an extremely magical-religious conception of the real world, which is not going to serve you on a day-to-day basis, or to believe the garbage communist ideology that makes you believe that because you are a low-skilled worker you are going to stay that way all your life because capitalism oppresses you.

Nowadays you have more opportunities to progress than ever, much more with the internet. If you have a job that pays you little, train yourself better, look for another job, or even if you find it difficult and you can't, look for ways to earn money online. One way in this forum are the signature campaigns, in which many people participate. What they pay is a good extra income if you live in a developed country, but in a poor country it can mean a whole income.

It is true that negative circumstances sometimes prevent us from progressing and that there are people who have bad luck, but the people who progress the most are those who believe that they have destiny in their hands, despite the circumstances, instead of the other way around: believing that they can't do anything because of destiny or the supposed oppressive capitalism.
1712  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in-$200 FreeBTC⭐Win Lambo🔥0.2BTC DailyJackpot🏆$32,500 Wager Contest on: April 29, 2023, 03:30:41 AM

It keeps happening to me almost every time I use martingale strategy for betting.
Out of 10 times, I would have lost money 9 times and came out in profits just once.
Sometimes what I do is I quit the auto bet while I'm in profits and quit for the day thinking I am in profits.
But then the next day I play again and lose all what I had won earlier. LOL. Still it's fun to sleep thinking you won for the day.

Martingale is still the go strategy of a lof of players allthough we all know in the end, you will always loose. To be honest, I am sometimes still tempted to do it even though I know it can go or will wrong, which happened already to me a couple of times lol.

The part that has been left unexplained by pawanjain is that those days that he goes positive he wins very little in relation to what he loses on the days that he goes negative (most of them), because in martingale, the garbage strategy used when you lose is to double the bet, so you are risking 100% each time to win only the initial bet.

The ones that I bet that are very happy with so many people practicing martingale, are freebitco.in and casinos in general. For them it is very profitable.
1713  Economy / Economics / Re: Food Crisis - Improved, Worsen or still the same in your country (No Change)? on: April 29, 2023, 03:14:58 AM
I don't know what you mean about food crisis other than price increases. Where I live at least there have been no shortages. In that sense the food crisis would fall under the global inflation crisis that was exacerbated by the Ukraine war but started before that due to massive printing and restrictive fossil fuel policies.
1714  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Binance sees a large uptick in the amount of BTC held on their exchange on: April 29, 2023, 03:03:55 AM
What are your thoughts on this?

I have mixed feelings. On the one hand centralized exchanges are not ideal, they deviate from the initial idea of Bitcoin, they require KYC and they can sell your data or hackers can steal it. On the other hand, they are largely responsible for the price rising from less than a penny to tens of thousands of dollars because of the great liquidity they provide.

But one thing that is alarming is the fact that people have returned back to trusting the centralized exchanges in holding their bitcoin again after all the saga caused by the FTX scandal. Personal I see this as a bad thing because people haven’t learn their lessons that it is best to have control of one’s funds than trusting even the top exchange. FTX was ranked third on list of top exchanges and still got into trouble same thing happened to Mt.Gox then, so i don’t see anything good in trusting binance once again

That's another one, that some exchanges may be scams or ponzi schemes like FTX, but hopefully this will become more and more unlikely.
1715  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The psychology of betting..... on: April 28, 2023, 04:12:27 AM
As humans, we are conditioned to look for patterns in life and we gamblers try to make predictions based on what we see, while we are gambling. The reality is that these patterns does not exist, but we like to pretend that they do because it helps us to bring order to the chaos that are gambling.  Roll Eyes

Some people seem to think that your bet size will increase your chances to win, but that is simply a myth. The reality is that it simply means your payouts will be bigger when you do win.

A lot of my friends believe that it is better to spin the Slots manually, because "Auto spin" are rigged by the casinos... but that is also a myth...

What patterns do you see and how much do you believe in it?

When you learn the mathematics at the basis of gambling you realize that there are no patterns, but that patterns are constructions that we humans make when we try to see regularities in the observed phenomena. This happens not only in gambling but in life in general, and, for example, in trying to predict the price of Bitcoin. We look at past data, construct patterns based on it, and extrapolate it into the future expecting it to be so... until at some point in the future the data disproves our pattern.

Perhaps the only pattern I see that is not clearly defined but one that I can see in a generic way is playing poker. A person like me who has played millions of hands over many years, when I am winning extraordinarily above average for a while, I know that those extraordinarily positive results cannot last much longer, and conversely with negative results or bad streaks. But it is not something absolutely definite, nor is it based solely on intuition but on the mathematics of variance. You can use variance calculators to see how likely a bad streak is to last based on your winrate and number of hands played.
1716  Economy / Speculation / Re: this pump is because of russia? on: April 28, 2023, 03:58:20 AM
Well, no one has the accurate answer why we've got the pump. And when the price corrected, we also don't have any idea why it had happened.

Well, it's not exactly like that. We can speak in terms of probabilities, since correlation does not imply causation but neither does it preclude it. In this case, it is difficult to know and a priori it does not seem that the return of Binance to Russia is determinant for the pump, but there have been other cases, such as when mining was banned in China, where there was a price drop and we can assume that with great probability it was caused by it.
1717  Economy / Economics / Re: Investing Addiction. on: April 28, 2023, 03:09:53 AM
Now talking about investing, I think it is possible to become addicted to investing so much that it begins to affect your wellbeing, like the person stops spending on other important things like good food, good clothes etc. just so they can have more money to invest? Do you consider that kind of addiction dangerous and not good?

Hey buddy, I think you are confusing investing with trading. You can't get addicted to investing because it takes a lot of capital to invest, and you can't be investing every day. Even if you have a high income, say $200K in the US, the normal thing is that you invest if you do it in Bitcoin or in the stock market, a few thousand dollars a month, but once a month, or two at most.

On the other hand, with short term trading that tries to buy and sell hoping to know if the price is going to go up or down, we can talk about addiction similar to those who are addicted to gambling.

OP may have confused investing with gambling,

With short-term trading, rather, as I have just explained, which especially for retail investors with little knowledge and a lot of impulsivity is very similar to gambling.

With these reasons, I hereby inform Poker Player to remove the negative tag on my profile including to those my customers cos we do not deserve it except Martyns that had had a contact with 1xbit.

Thanks for taking time to read through.

As the explanation seems reasonable, I have changed the feedback to neutral, and will leave it that way as long as no more data comes out.

Ban evasion:

The moderators could take a look at the latest research on the subject, which shows that the ban evader either has many more alts accounts or is part of the same ring with other accounts that engage in unethical use of the forum.

So, I reread Avirunes' post more carefully, I looked at the profiles of the accounts involved and when I went to look at the recent merit of the first account, in no particular order, I saw this:

So, I've taken an aggressive approach on the subject.

I've updated my trust list, btw.
