1261  Other / Meta / Re: Charles-Tim merit source application on: July 24, 2023, 04:40:01 PM
I see your initial merit source application hasn't been accepted by Theymos just yet, but i think you have a stronger case here, since our local board is somewhat new and undermerited, giving us a merit source might be something Theymos will consider doing. Goodluck with your application and i'm certain you'll make a good merit source when accepted.

I believe that this will be like the creation of the local board. Only after much time and insistence, theymos decided to create it. I am sure that if theymos were to add more merit sources now, Charles-Tim would be one to consider, but he may not do it now, as Rikafip says.

Anyway, good luck to Charles-Tim again.
1262  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC appeals XRP ruling on: July 24, 2023, 04:27:40 PM
I did not understand in what order the appeal will take place. If this is a new lawsuit, that will take a very long time.

What it means is that the judge's decision is valid as long as there is no higher instance that contradicts it. As this can take two years for a new trial by appeal in a higher instance, Ripple knows that they can rest easy for a long time. For the time being, they have been granted, and now it is the SEC that must strive to take it away in the appeal to a higher instance.

1263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Farmer's Bitcoin Investment on: July 24, 2023, 04:20:49 PM
It's almost assured that it will happen, except something very unusual disrupts the Bitcoin circle before then. Next year is halving, it's a price chase from there till 2025. I believe Bitcoin will do above $120k in its next all time high expected in 2025.

Well, but from these levels it would be an X4 or X5, not like changing anyone's life, and even less if you don't want to sell everything.

Stories of this style don't usually stand up to simple mathematical analysis, but the OP's could be real, as between 2019 and 2021 the price went up considerably. His uncle could have made X15 if he bought near the bottom and sold near the top. He could have even sold part of the Bitcoin making a good profit without selling 100% of what he bought.

We will see the future, as I doubt we will have X15 returns in a single cycle. From the current level it would be almost half a million in one cycle. I hope so, but I don't think so.
1264  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: $1,080 Billion powerball lotto winner in the USA on: July 23, 2023, 08:40:54 AM
I'm confused, how would you type out one billion eighty-five million? wouldn't it be $1,085 Billion? so, why would a $1,080 with a "billion" next to it be mistaken for a trillion? I also wrote Billion next to it for more clarification.

$1.08 billion

You have it written in the description of the same Youtube video you link. Come on, edit the title.

Regarding the news, I am partly happy for her but partly cautious. First because she has shown her face to the cameras and second because it is too big an amount of money. Knowing that 70% of lottery winners end up bankrupt after a few years, I can fear that such an amount could drive people crazy.
1265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Appeal to the Average Joe and Jane Bitcoin Investors: Buy Bitcoin Now! on: July 23, 2023, 08:18:04 AM
This thread is going to be, if anything, more useful for the OP to receive some merit than because it will make any impact on Average Joe.

The worst advice to convince the Average Joe and Jane to invest in Bitcoin is when someone force them to start buy now when they still not understand what's Bitcoin, how's Bitcoin work and the reason they want to invest in Bitcoin.

This

Most of people are invest in Bitcoin for making money, but if they're invest in Bitcoin because of decentralization, inflationary, security, privacy and be your own bank reasons, they're definitely long term holder and not care about FUDs.

Well, you can also invest for both reasons, as I think most of us do, but you are right that there is an essential difference in the one who invests in Bitcoin only for the economic motive and the one who does it knowing its intrinsic properties.
1266  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC appeals XRP ruling on: July 23, 2023, 08:11:22 AM
Of course they have the right to appeal, but I guess the first ruling will stick and I'm not seeing that Gary will get any attentions with this appeal. It's done already, Ripple is not a security.

You guess that based on what? A hunch?

The first judgement is already an edge and to upturn it may seem that the court is biased.

You say that because you know a lot about laws and trials, don't you?
1267  Economy / Lending / Re: ⭐💲⭐💲⭐ CCs Mini-Loan Service ⭐💲⭐💲⭐ on: July 22, 2023, 01:16:58 PM
I see you as too reactive to present yourself as a supposedly altruistic person. If you are such a good person and do so well in offering this service I don't know why you get so angry. And the last straw is your signature, which does not correspond to your reactions.

You and Wolf are welcome back in a year or so and apologize to me.

Lol.

What his intentions are, I don't know. Just from my point of view they are not bad. Maybe he just wants to help out those who need it, but also look like they can actually pay it back.

Giving these low-amount loans to people who need them only deepens financial ruin.

Rasied the amount to 22 from 20.  Wink
8$ interest and 1.5$ transaction fee are not too much for 22$?

In the example above, do you think someone who is having trouble coming up with $22 you are doing him any favors if you charge them $8 in less than a month? In the UK and many European countries such loans are illegal. That's more than 500% APR.

1268  Economy / Lending / Re: ⭐💲⭐💲⭐ CCs Mini-Loan Service ⭐💲⭐💲⭐ on: July 22, 2023, 08:04:11 AM
I had seen this thread but had not paid much attention to it, since only I come to this section from time to time, trying to go through as many sections of the forum as possible, not because I am interested in borrowing or lending. I came and read the thread when I saw the other one in the Reputation section about DireWolfM14's neutral tag.

I have to say that the thread smells fishy to me. I mean the OP registers in February and a month later starts offering a non-collateral loan service of low quantities and short term:

I don't offer collateral loans.
...
« 1 »
Maximum lend amount is crypto worth $88 Maximum duration should be 21 DAYS

It's not clear to me why the OP is doing it, but either he wants to build up trust, or collect KYC documents or some other motive than the purely altruistic one he wants to appear.

1269  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC appeals XRP ruling on: July 22, 2023, 07:53:49 AM
Breaking news.

A baldish man speculates that his hairline is growing back and he thinks that he is never making a mistake on this speculation.

The source of this breaking news? The baldish man.

I don't quite understand this, which I assume is irony. FYI, I have a good hairy head.

Do not make the mistake of being tricked by the baldish man. This appeal is created to spread fear, uncertainty and doubt.

Instead of continuing to make fun of the bald guy, explain one thing to me: according to you, if Ripple and the rest of shitcoins are not securities, what are they?
1270  Other / Meta / Re: Icopress ' Merit Source Application on: July 22, 2023, 07:48:42 AM
~snip

I didn't know you weren't a merit source. I guess since you earn merits at almost 4 times the activity, I've seen you give out quite a few merits.

Anyway, I believe that icopress' contribution is so remarkably positive to the forum as to be appointed merit source. The only thing I can think of to prevent it from happening is that maybe theymos does not want to appoint any new merit sources for now.

1271  Economy / Reputation / Re: DireWolfM14 abusing the trustsystem. & stalking people on: July 22, 2023, 07:38:09 AM
Really? This for a neutral tag? You can get mad all you want, OP, but a neutral tag like that is not abusing the trust system. In general a neutral tag is not, unless it is clearly negative in spirit but neutral in color, something like "CYBER_COWBOY is a fucking scammer, don't deal with him." That could be a case of trust abuse if it is not supported by anything other than opinion.
1272  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How is your Gambling Pattern Like? on: July 21, 2023, 03:37:56 AM
I'm curious about your own gambling lifestyle. Do you set aside specific times each day or week for gambling?

I used to. I just now play when I feel like it.

When it comes to visiting casinos, do you play at one today or this week and then try out a different one the next time you want to gamble?

I only go to one physical casino, which is the one closest to me, and I hardly ever go.

As for bankroll management, do you track it using an app, Excel, or any other methods?

Playing poker, simply by looking at the money you have in your account, you know how many stacks of the level you have. Also by using Poker Tracker or Holdem Manager you keep track of the highs and lows. Although in them you do not see the withdrawals you make.

And regarding your environment, do you prefer playing at an online casino while listening to music in the background, or do you prefer a quiet atmosphere? I

I play podcasts on the background.
1273  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can't do something else offline, is this something wrong? on: July 21, 2023, 03:19:42 AM
....

From what you say, it would make sense to focus your efforts on Bitcoin-related businesses. I understand that investing in other businesses is for diversification, but if you see that you are not passionate about it, just buy good dividend paying stocks or a fund indexed to the S&P 500 for some diversification and focus on Bitcoin.

The businesses you are talking about are active, they require someone actively managing the business, instead you can buy passive investments with the money.
1274  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Seed phrase and passphrase backup on: July 21, 2023, 03:10:37 AM
Sometimes it is inevitable to have many wallets, especially when you are using Bitcoin and Altcoins; and also for privacy and security reasons.

Like 5 wallets? In my opinion that depends on the amount you HODL, as I said before.

Multisignature wallets do not reduce the backups or make it fewer, instead it increases it. Let's say you have just one wallet, but it is a 2-of-3 multisignature wallet, you will need to back up three seed phrases and three master public keys, which invariably increases the backups.

You can have a 2-of-3 multisignature wallet where 1 is held by a company, like unchained.com, which I guess a lot of people won't be a fan of, but it's an option, and you only need 2 backups.
1275  Economy / Economics / Re: What are some financial secrets that you know of? on: July 21, 2023, 02:56:33 AM
There's no secrets. If you want to get rich, or as I prefer to say it to improve your economic situation, do it simple, slowly and boring.

Save an emergency fund, get rid of consumer debt, increase your income and then invest, reinvest and keep reinvesting.

That's it.
1276  Other / Meta / Re: Lol. Has this ever happened to you? Merit sent again after refreshing. on: July 20, 2023, 03:10:35 PM
Double clicking or reloading the page both had the same result. It's actually the reason theymos implemented the 60 second delay, but that doesn't stop all cases as you found out.

Not really. If you see the OP's image, there is a difference of less than a minute but between two different posts. The merit that I sent to the same post when refreshing the page is about 7 minutes apart from the other.

I just tried to do the same and couldn't, even waiting for longer than 1 minute (I gave you two merits but because I tried twice separately).

I would lock the thread but this is Meta, I don't think it will last long here without being locked if there isn't some meaningful discussion going on.

Edit: I think what has been said is enough. Locking it.
1277  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation is making a mess of my savings. on: July 20, 2023, 03:00:02 PM
Even before the inflation went high and before the pandemic, people were already having a hard time earning money for food.

I think it is important to point this out, because the high inflation started before the war in Ukraine, something that Biden and other leaders have insisted on hiding. It was mainly due to the massive printing accumulated over the years, but especially the one that was exacerbated in March 2020 and later, apart from energy policies. The war only gave the coup de grāce to the previous breeding ground.

No matter how we say it, I know we need to find another source of income, but still, it is very hard to do it unless you are already earning a lot.

As you say, the best thing to do to beat inflation is to earn more, and I would add that if you can save, invest what you save to beat inflation (provided you already have an emergency fund). I have said it in several threads about it, the period of high inflation that started in the fall of 2021 caught me with a big increase in my income, so I almost didn't even notice it. I saw prices going up, but since I was earning more I could afford the increase, spend more and even save and invest more.

In other words, to people who are in the OP's situation, I would recommend that they try to get more income.
1278  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Seed phrase and passphrase backup on: July 20, 2023, 02:39:01 PM
If you have 5 wallets and want strict security measures for each of them I hope you have at least 5 Bitcoin or their equivalent between Bitcoin and altcoins, otherwise it seems to me that you are too paranoid. It's a problem I see with Bitcoin, if I have $100K in the bank, hypothetically authorities can seize it, or freeze it, or make it difficult for me to move it if I want to move to another country, but I am not at risk of losing them due to a $5 wrench attack.

Since you don't give more data, what I would do would be:

1. Have fewer wallets.
2. Consider that some of the wallets should be multisig.
3. Have fewer backups.

And I would never store anything online neither seeds nor passphrase.
1279  Other / Meta / Re: Lol. Has this ever happened to you? Merit sent again after refreshing. on: July 20, 2023, 02:25:24 PM
I'm getting old: there are now Legendary users who just discover the flaws in the Merit system that were discussed shortly after it was introduced:
Occasions where the same user merited the same post twice at the exact same time
26 posts received the same number of Merit from the same user in the same second. This is caused by double clicking the Send button[/b]:

I am getting old too but as far as I know, we are not talking about the same thing. Your quote talks about double clicking the Send button, and I am talking about having refreshed (or reloaded if you prefer) the page. Not about meriting the same post twice at the same time but after a while.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if you've talked about exactly that elsewhere in some of your many posts.

So, i had the tab with my merit history open and I don't know how I refreshed the page...

And I wouldn't say it's a flaw either, it's more of a curious thing.
1280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kuwait Bans Bitcoin and crypto payments, investement and mining on: July 20, 2023, 02:18:08 PM
I personally wasn't expecting this, especially with their neighbor (UAE and Bahrain) doing the total opposite.

I think so too. We will have to see what influence this has in the area, but I do not think that the United Arab Emirates, with the amount of business that Dubai moves with cryptocurrencies, will change its policy. I would like to think that eventually in Kuwait they will realize their mistake and reverse the policy but you never know.

Most Gulf countries are like that actually - if crypto is not improving their economy by supplying an influx of blockchain companies and startups, they'll just ban it and be done. Most of these countries do end up reconsidering their bans as the crypto landscape changes shape and new policies & developments are made (the most infamous example being Russia which has banned and unbanned crypto no less than four times over the last 10 years).

Lol. Let them take a cue from Dubai then, instead of beating around the bush.
