1621  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How old are you now in bitcoin investment? on: May 16, 2023, 04:08:33 AM
In my case about 5 years, but at the beginning I only bought small quantities. Since 2 years ago or more I started to make more regular purchases.

In the end there are many things that influence, how long ago is one, how much you have bought another, and another very important one is: how much have you sold? You see many people on the forum with many years of antiquity asking for loans in the lending section, which makes you think that all income obtained with bitcoin was spent.
1622  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoins held by the US government on: May 16, 2023, 03:58:09 AM
Right, they will not just simply dump it just because the litigation is down, not unless the court really gives them the order to sell it right away. Of course, it's better to sell those to recover some money from the seize Bitcoin, but they will have to find a suitable time to sell to at least get a good amount.

Not sure about the impact though, we don't hear news until the transaction has been done. But there could be some individuals following those addresses and then report it to the public. Whether their intention is bad (create FUD), or just simply wanting to let us know that the Bitcoin seized has been sold already, OTC or some other ways.

In any case, this will be just another bump in the road, like a wave that should not affect those of us who invest in Bitcoin in the long term. As I said in a previous comment, I would not be surprised if in the future they realize that they will do well to buy Bitcoin, or even mine it. With a little foresight they would hold these. Let them sell, I will continue to hold mine.
1623  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you spend more-do you get more? on: May 16, 2023, 03:21:59 AM
There is an opinion that the more money you spend, the more you get in return, it is interesting to find out who really works in this direction. I spend enough money, but I have a fixed income, therefore I will not be able to get more. I don't have rich relatives, and I don't expect an inheritance either. I want to get rich, not to deny myself, but I have to save on everything. Who really faced big expenses and received even more? How does it work, maybe I don't understand the essence of it correctly?

That's just garbage that will keep you poor.

If you want to get more money, what you have to do is worry about it, study it, and above all study the differences that those who have a rich mentality and those who have a poor or middle class mentality have.

One way to have more money is precisely the opposite: control income and expenses and save, and then invest. Investments are money that will generate more money, and if you start from a poor base that is achieved by saving, contrary to the advice. Besides, along the way you can come up with ideas to earn more, through your work or other sources of income.

1624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OG Bitcoin Wallet Addresses Suddenly Active - Are they being hacked? on: May 16, 2023, 03:11:40 AM
You are kidding right.

This has been long debated in the forum and the odds are so low as to be ridiculous.

I mean theres tons of addresses out there so its like how could you not hit one
Because there are this many possible valid 12 word seeds:
340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456

And there only approximately 30 million bitcoin addresses with balance on them. Divide those two numbers and you get a roughly 1 in 11 million trillion trillion chance of finding a collision. (Now, this is not quite accurate since any seed can generate potentially billions of addresses, but you get the idea.)

If we were talking about 24-word combinations, they are exponentially much smaller.
1625  Economy / Reputation / Re: How much longer will JollyGood take to reverse his feedback? on: May 15, 2023, 04:42:32 PM
I think there are too many evidences in this thread not to wait any longer to negative tag the OP and Zilon.

In the case of the OP, having seen him give explanations I doubt he could say anything more convincing. In the case of Zilon maybe, but what are they going to say about the ibb account that is created with only one username and one email? It was created by the same person . It doesn't make sense otherwise.
1626  Other / Meta / Re: Restrict newbies from posting in the lending board? on: May 15, 2023, 04:17:31 AM
That being said, I would be in favor on giving this suggestion from OP.a try and restrict new users from participating in that board, for some weeks and see what happens, if the results are not satisfactory, it can be reversed and deal with it with the usual tools we already have: ignore lists, red tags, trust, etc.  Wink

Has that ever happened in the forum? I mean that of doing a temporary test to see the results and decide. As far as I remember, theymos takes his time to make changes, but when he makes them they are permanent, he doesn't test to see.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I just don't think it's the way he usually acts.
1627  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why? on: May 15, 2023, 04:12:57 AM
Talking about BTC wallets, how can I create one in my android.

Just download one. You can use Mycellium wallet or Electrum for example. They are easy to download and install.
1628  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Hunger and unending wants on: May 15, 2023, 03:52:45 AM
We shouldn't quote by imaginations or assumptions,

No imaginations. Facts.

You mean those countries were better in the past? What about countries like China or Mexico, that do not appear there, where people used to die of famine and today they have an obesity problem?

If you claim hunger has been drastically reduced what happens to countries where workers earn below their daily expenses, How about countries where their currency have little or no value.

That, in general, they are better off than in the past, although there are always exceptions.

Currently agriculture is not promoted has it was in the past, many are turning into soft works except for countries where mechanised agriculture is rampant. .

What is there to promote in agriculture when it is highly mechanized? In the past it took dozens of men to produce less than what can be achieved today by a single person using machines.

Maybe this is all about the capitalists dictating the market price for the homes...

You have no idea. Capitalism does not dictate the price of anything. If there is real capitalism prices are set by a balance of supply and demand. Those who are in the business of dictating prices are those of the ideology you like, who are the ones who have caused the most millions of deaths by starvation in the world:

Soviet famine of 1930–1933

Great Chinese Famine
1629  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 2024 halving less than 1 year away on: May 15, 2023, 03:39:06 AM
But otherwise do you generally the bull market will start before or after the halving, or otherwise more or less immediately after the halving, and do you think there will be any other relevant factors other than the halving?

Interested to hear your thoughts...

What I want to see in the next cycle, after halving, is how far the peak goes. This cycle has been the most disappointing in terms of returns, failing all forecasts that were made in 2021. For the next one I would expect $100K to be passed, but what if it doesn't happen? A lot of things would have to be rethought. Passing $200K is much more difficult. If for example the peak of the next cycle was $140K, it would be a 2x, coming from a 3.5x the previous cycle.

The point is that as the price goes up, it is more difficult for the returns to be spectacular. The only good thing I see is that volatility tends to decrease as well.
1630  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Third graders and Bitcoin on: May 15, 2023, 03:27:26 AM
They probably see or heard it in Tiktok or Youtube or any other social media. That's how kids are nowadays as compare to let's say 50 years ago wherein the knowledge of money is not with us when we are young.

However, I totally doubt that they knew blockchain or what Bitcoin as far as technical terms.

That's just what I was thinking. By now Bitcoin is well known and it's not uncommon to have heard of it. Who hasn't heard about Bitcoin today? They usually don't know much, other than having a vague idea, and even less so at that age.

Ideally schools should teach about money, what fiat is and what Bitcoin is, why it was created and things like that, but governments are not interested at all, so we are not going to see it in curricula.
1631  Economy / Reputation / Re: How much longer will JollyGood take to reverse his feedback? on: May 15, 2023, 03:11:58 AM

How many coincidences today. Smiley

I see a pattern here.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5449784.msg62156205#msg62156205

I don't know if these multi-account holders have a plausible deniability plan in advance if they are caught to avoid getting negative tags. The same thing happened in that case.

The explanations he gives are within reason, but they prove nothing. That Zilon and dbc23 write on different boards may obey a pre-established plan precisely to try to make it appear that there are different people behind the accounts.
1632  Economy / Reputation / Re: How much longer will JollyGood take to reverse his feedback? on: May 14, 2023, 02:34:54 PM
My account is clean of all accusations. I can as well decide to transact with anybody on the forum any day any time and thereby moving funds across wallets

No, it is not. What do you have to say about sharing addresses with the other accounts?

1633  Economy / Reputation / Re: How much longer will JollyGood take to reverse his feedback? on: May 14, 2023, 12:43:55 PM
Later on I'll come back and take a good look at the thread and links to decide if I take an aggressive approach on this issue. But if I understand it correctly, we have pretty clear indications that the OP has not only bought the account, but has other accounts that have been red trusted previously, or have committed plagiarism, no?
1634  Economy / Reputation / Re: How much longer will JollyGood take to reverse his feedback? on: May 14, 2023, 10:37:19 AM
As I always been mentioned by most of users, neutral tag is fine since it doesn't ruin your reputation.

A negative tag either.

However, it should be noted that some neutral tags may affect the ability to earn through signature campaigns. For example:

... do not apply if you have neutral feedback from actmyname.

In this case and drawing a parallel, JollyGood's neutral feeback could affect the OP's ability to earn through signature campaigns.
1635  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My experience with memorizing seed phrases on: May 14, 2023, 04:29:38 AM
I don't see the point. Relying on your memory has big risks, and having your memory as a backup plan apart from having the seeds saved in another way has the problem you mentioned:

...because if I'll go a few months without refershing my memory, I'll probably forget big chunks of it. That's why memorizing should be viewed as an optional bonus and not a part of overall seed storage.

Either you have to be constantly refreshing or you will forget at least parts of it, so all the time and effort spent will be for nothing.
1636  Economy / Economics / Re: 199,983 companies went bankrupt in Europe because of the energy crisis in 2022 on: May 14, 2023, 03:33:25 AM
It contradicts your previous lies about the German bankrupcies:

In a recent interview in German TV the head of the Federation of German Industries BDI, Siegfried Russwurm pointed out the increasing number of insolvencies in the country. 30% have already declared bankruptcy while about 60% have claimed to go insolvent this season. Only about 11% of the German businesses has claimed to have no issues! Majority of them claimed that they are going to take their capital outside Germany.

While he is generally a quality poster, you made me remember that he said that half a million families had gone homeless in the UK, which I quickly dismantled, and I've been looking for the post to quote it but I don't know if he deleted it because I can't find it. It seems he only wants to see the speck in his neighbours eye.

This thread is also quite illustrative:

The Economist: 335000 people could "freeze to death" in Europe

How many will have died directly from not being able to heat themselves at the end? Not even 1%. Unless we consider "freezing to death" that people over 90 years of age with various risk factors have died after contracting influenza, COVID and other diseases.
1637  Economy / Economics / Re: Bravo: Ron DeSantis bans CBDCs on: May 14, 2023, 03:16:44 AM
Biden is explicitly for more crypto regulation and CBDCs, he's made this clear.

A politician who advocates big government socialism advocates a currency that allows total control of the finances of its citizens. How shocking. I can't believe it!

The bad thing is that there are very few politicians who are against CBDCs. Politicians in general like control. And with CBDCs their power to control will increase exponentially.

I had originally opened this thread in the P&S board but since it has two components, one on politics and one on economics, I am moving it to the Economics section where I think it may get more responses.
1638  Economy / Economics / Bravo: Ron DeSantis bans CBDCs on: May 13, 2023, 01:39:11 PM
Is anyone surprised that a Republican politician with big balls and who is proud to stand up for what he thinks is the first to sign a law against CBDCs? Certainly not me. What would have surprised me is if he had been a Democrat.

The other day I was listening to Ted Cruz talking about how Bitcoin is freedom and why Democrats hate Bitcoin, just like cash, because they are things they can't control and he sounded like a forum Bitcoin maximalist to me. Explaining that every Monday he buys Bitcon (DCA) etc. etc. etc. etc.

But let's get down to business:

Governor Ron DeSantis Signs First-in-the-Nation Legislation to Protect Against Government Surveillance of Personal Finances

Quote
Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill (SB) 7054 and SB 214 to protect the personal finances of Floridians from government overreach and woke corporate monitoring. SB 7054 prohibits the use of a federally adopted central bank digital currency (CBDC) by excluding it from the definition of money within Florida’s Uniform Commercial Code. Additionally, the bill prohibits foreign-issued CBDC to protect consumers against globalist efforts to adopt a worldwide digital currency...

“The government and large credit card companies should not have the power to shut off access to your hard-earned money because they disagree with your politics,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Biden’s Central Bank Digital Currency aims to increase government control over people’s finances, and we will not allow it. In Florida, we value personal freedom and won’t allow self-interested elites to chip away at our liberty.”

I don't know to what extent he has powers or Biden could pass a superior law to counter this but bravo Ron DeSantis.
1639  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Hunger and unending wants on: May 13, 2023, 01:31:36 PM
Hunger on the other hand has also increased...

That's BS and I am not going to stop to comment on the conclusions you draw, the premise being false.

Hunger has been drastically reduced around the world. If you are going to defend the contrary, you should explain why when the posh guy who never worked in his life (Marx) was born the population of the earth was around one billion people and today it is just short of eight billion. Shortly before Marx was born, the visionary Malthus also advocated a food catastrophe under the argument that humans were growing in geometric progression while food production was growing in arithmetic progression.

Another thing you could explain is why in countries where malnutrition abounded a few decades ago, now there is an obesity problem. Or why hunger and its descriptions were a constant in literature until not many decades ago and have now disappeared.
1640  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Signature campaign post quota on: May 13, 2023, 07:03:22 AM
Are they willing to pay more for that amount of posts, or they expect to pay the same as those who ask for ~25 posts, which kinda became a forum standard?

With the current competition for the highest paying campaigns I have seen in the Services section people being removed from the campaigns, having written just the 25 posts of the quota or maybe up to couple more, as an indication of little effort. The competition between campaigns has changed since CM is not here, where there was a clear difference between the top 50 paid and the rest. The maximum total payout for a campaign has been socialized let's say, but at the same time there is a lot of competition from forum members to access the $100-$150 weekly payout campaigns for Hero/Legendary.
