1561  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Doing scam for Using AI Tool in Signature Campaign on: May 28, 2023, 03:08:30 PM
I will refrain from tagging bbigtart in this case. I know my opinion is not the most popular here, as I understand that it is one thing for someone to engage in massive copy-pasting of AI-generated texts and another to use AI to gather information and from there rewrite, modify or extend what is generated. I see that in the case of bbigtart we would have both cases.

While here in the forum the debate focuses on how to stop AI from being used on it, outside this cave the debate is simply how it is already being integrated into our lives. The latest is that google is going to integrate it with the search engine. In the same way that first google lens came out and now you have it next to the search engine without having to go and open the App separately, the integration of AI with search engines will allow us to get more accurate information faster and with even less effort.

The debate reminds me of the people you would still meet years ago who refused to have cell phones because they said the powerful would have us monitored and such.
1562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Crypto will never reach mass adoption if it does not before more user-friendly" on: May 28, 2023, 08:19:09 AM

Is it so difficult for crypto developers to create a UI or anything that would make crypto easier/ more accessible to people.
The internet was "difficult" once...but now even grandma can surf the net. When crypto will be easy enough gor grandpa and grandma, mass adoption is in.

There is a part of reason in this. If Bitcoin were to one day be used with the same adoption that the internet and cell phones are used today, there should be very user friendly applications, but I don't think it will ever be used with that level of adoption because of how valuable it is. Most likely it will be CBDCs or some shitcoins that everyone will use on their mobile, while Bitcoin will tend to be treasured more as something valuable. Even with highly developed LN or other solutions it doesn't make much sense to spend Bitcoin and store dollars or CBDCs, rather the trend will be the opposite.
1563  Economy / Economics / Re: Bravo: Ron DeSantis bans CBDCs on: May 28, 2023, 08:11:56 AM
The concern of people is the abuse of this instrument and what we are seeing from some of these IRS agent is close to this, if they can track a transaction of $600,  they are coming to track a transaction of $50 in the future.

Well, actually, I don't know why you put a lower limit. The ultimate goal is total control of all transactions, and with companies moving towards cashless more and more, they are going to have it easy, CBDC or not. Although as there is always going to be illegal business, and even corrupt politicians who need to handle undeclared money, there will always be an escape route to control, be it cryptocurrencies, precious metals or whatever.
1564  Economy / Speculation / Re: If history repeats itself: 2023 vs 2019 on: May 28, 2023, 04:39:04 AM
There is no doubt that we are going to see a massive bull run in 2024-2025. The point of the OP is that if history will repeat itself, then we might see $50k at least for this year before the big bull run that we are expecting right after the block halving in May.

Basing the assumption on technical analysis. I recently saw that China may change its position on cryptocurrencies. I am more confident that that could give the price a nice boost and it will go to $50K in no time than technical analysis which is probabilistic and serves rather more to try to understand the past than to predict the future.
1565  Economy / Economics / Re: Bravo: Ron DeSantis bans CBDCs on: May 28, 2023, 04:28:53 AM
The ban on the use by citizens of both national CBDCs and CBDCs of other states is a completely stupid step on the part of this politician, especially under such a noble pretext as protecting personal finances. It's like banning the use of cars on the pretext that when using them, many traffic accidents are committed and people die because of this. Any bans on the use of new technologies do not lead to anything good. People should always have the right to choose, especially in the financial sector.

What is really stupid is to draw a parallel between cars, which are privately produced, at least in the free world, and CBDCs, which are politically created. Although seeing the garbage you promote in your signature I'm not surprised at the poverty of your argument.

Did Desantis invest in bitcoin...

Yes he did.

8 Facts About Ron DeSantis Including Investments In Bitcoin, Ethereum

Another who also invests in Bitcoin is Ted Cruz who I recently heard explaining that every Monday he buys Bitcoin, the same amount, which for those who don't know is following the strategy known as dollar cost averaging.

In any case, going back to DeSantis, it is clear that he knows what he is talking about and that is why he has Bitcoin. What I fear is that between his stance on this, and his stance vs the Fed, if he were to get to the white house I think he would be in danger of a JFK-like event.
1567  Economy / Economics / Re: Which stocks to buy? on: May 27, 2023, 03:52:29 AM
This is a bit of a matter of taste, but I prefer companies that are established, boring, and have a long history of growing dividend payments, the best representative being J&J.

If you build a portfolio of stocks in this style you get cash flow from the dividend payments, plus a likely appreciation of the stock. The downside: you probably won't beat a low-cost S&P 500 index fund in total return. But dividend investing in blue chips has a psychological component as well. When you invest in a fund, you tend not to want to sell the fund and if you need cash you get rid of part of the investment and, in advance, you will not be able to know if you have chosen a bad timing to sell, while with dividends you get a cash flow that you can reinvest or spend as you see fit without selling your shares.

I am not sure if this thread belongs here, perhaps Service Discussion would be a better place for it? I also use bpip.org every now and then, it has quite a bit of functionality and I've been using it for a while now to see the 120 day merits. It's pretty good for viewing merit earned ranking and other rankings as well.
1569  Economy / Reputation / Re: Feedback that are fun to read (collection) on: May 26, 2023, 04:47:50 AM
I don't know what you expect with this thread. It's neither a collection nor do I see the fun to read feedback. It is a neutral feedback, therefore with little repercussion, if any, and it is surely true that joker_josue wrote a low quality post at the time, for which I personally would not bother to write a feedback if it is only one, but I don't know what's so funny about it.
1570  Economy / Economics / Re: For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance on: May 26, 2023, 04:22:43 AM
This discrepancy isn't biblical. This probably isn't what the holy scriptures meant. The reality is that this is all about power and influence, not about whatever spiritual force there is in the world.

I agree but apart from power and influence, governments provide facilities and tax incentives to those who create jobs and generate economic activity. This is very good for governments because then they collect taxes, which they like so much.

So let's not think that the tax incentives given to Musk are given altruistically or because of the power he has. It is by giving those tax incentives that the government also ends up collecting, in the form of income tax from the employees of his companies, or VAT from the Teslas sold and things like that. Also, if Musk innovates with SpaceX, the government is spared from doing so.
1571  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The huge amount of motivation MERIT give newbies on: May 26, 2023, 04:15:08 AM
I wonder how newbies found out about this forum. Are many of them long-time lurkers before they finally signed up? It seems many of them arrived here with ideas on merit and ranking up already.

Either that, or the OP has other accounts on the already forum. He may also be part of a farm. The thing is, threads like this are not uncommon from people with great ideas about merit who haven't earned a single merit yet. And they seem to know that creating a thread especially in this section talking about merit can bring them benefits in the form of merits. The OP hasn't gotten it yet but let's wait a bit because it won't be uncommon for him to get some.
1572  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Biden administration will kill Bitcoin! Says Ron DeSantis. on: May 26, 2023, 03:23:39 AM
The pity is that it looks like DeSantis won't be the next candidate for the Republican party and Trump doesn't seem to like Bitcoin. Neither him nor Biden. Hopefully somehow the tables will turn and he can be the nominee. A pro-Bitcoin US president would be awesome.
1573  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DeSantis promises to protect bitcoin in presidential campaign launch event on: May 25, 2023, 07:55:48 AM
Satoshi never wrote in their whitepaper that they want Bitcoin to be a store of value that always goes up and at exponential rate. The stated purpose of Bitcoin was made clear - a payment system that doesn't discriminate and can't be shutdown, and that's what we have right now. But this can change in the future if the users will stop upholding these values.

An invention, especially with time, ends up differing from the initial idea of its inventor. When the cell phone was invented in 1973, the purpose was to be able to talk on the phone without a cable, moving around. It did not occur to anyone at the time that it could serve as a flashlight, for example.
1574  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DeSantis promises to protect bitcoin in presidential campaign launch event on: May 25, 2023, 06:04:32 AM
With recent hearings, testimonies around FTX, SEC, I believe that the core approach of The Republic party is opposite than from the Democrat Party. They want to make big changes that bring more friendly environment for that industry....

In general, it is more in line with their ideology. That of the Democrats is based on the state as the best guarantor of rights and freedoms, while that of the Republicans is based on the individual. Although individual politicians may differ from this line or even be hypocritical, as when right-wing politicians devote themselves to increasing taxes and public spending.
1575  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DeSantis promises to protect bitcoin in presidential campaign launch event on: May 25, 2023, 05:50:07 AM
If I were a l33t cypherpunk bitcoin maximalist ninja, I would have wanted Bitcoin to get banned or at least heavily regulated. Because it would have driven all the "get rich quick" investors out of Bitcoin and only people who use it as a currency would remain.

But don't just paint the pretty part of the story. In that idyllic scenario you paint, the price would easily be in 3 figures and the use as a currency would be relegated to the deep web, casinos and a few P2P-trades.
1576  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A Nigerian Father Rejects Son's Gambling Win on: May 25, 2023, 03:31:17 AM
I am certain that the father is very religious to let off that much money especially that this incident happened in Nigeria.

Yes, I think there is a consensus in the thread about this. Anyway, the boy has enough money to live on his own for a good period of time, especially considering that in Nigeria the cost of living must be cheaper and that $82K could last him quite a while. What I don't see is any reference to the boy's age and whether he could legally emancipate himself in the country. Because if not, I don't know what option the boy has left. Maybe bury the money somewhere hidden so he'll let him in the house.
1577  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Basic help using Abra (beginner!) on: May 25, 2023, 03:16:56 AM
Hi everyone,

A friend of mine needed to send me 500 USD (that I had lended to her a few years ago). However she now only uses cryptocurrency and I absolutely know nothing about it. I downloaded Abra and created an account.

She sent me 500 USDT but the amount doesn't want to show up in my wallet. I noticed afterwards the following message: "Minimum deposit 1000 USDT. Please top up deposits below the minimum amount to credit your USDT wallet"

...

I don't know how Abra works but I find it strange what you say, as the limits are usually much lower. I have searched and I see this:

Does Abra have a minimum transaction amount?

Quote
Deposits:

ACH: You can only deposit the equivalent of $5.00 USD or above via US or PH bank. You can deposit less than $5.00 USD via cryptocurrency.

Wire: You can only deposit the equivalent of $5.00 USD or above via our wire program.

Crypto: Some cryptocurrency deposits will require a minimum in order for those funds to reflect in your wallet,

On another page I see that they also talk about limits as an example lower than $1K:

Quote
Minimum Amount Issues:

For any ERC-20 deposits below the minimum amount, users will need to top up their deposits to the minimum amount before we credit the wallet. For example, if the minimum deposit amount for ETH is 0.1 ETH and a deposit of 0.085 ETH is made,

So that would be $165 at current prices.

Also:

Quote
For example, if the minimum deposit amount for BTC is 0.005 BTC and a deposit of 0.002 BTC is made

That would be $120 at current prices.

I'm not saying it's not as you say, the low limit of $1K for USD but you better double check it.

In any case, if it is confirmed that it is as you say it is, it seems to me a shitty platform with those limits and you would have no other choice but to deposit another $500 in USDT, but I don't know if it would be of much use if you want to make a bank transfer. Maybe the solution in that case would be to transfer the total $1K to another site where you can convert to local currency and they have a lower limit for bank transfer that allows you to execute the operation.
1578  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the bull run near already? on: May 25, 2023, 02:52:16 AM
Nah. News such as this does help Bitcoin in a PR-perspective, but it's not near huge alone to actually cause a full-fledged bull market. I remember us having a decent number of positive news deep in the 2020 bear as well, but those news did jack shit besides a temporary small cute pump.

I agree with this, and if a bull run were to start now it would be by chance, not because this caused it. Anyway and historically, the year before the halving there is usually a mini bull run followed by a fall, to get into the bull run proper after the halving. Let's hope it happens again.
1579  Economy / Economics / Re: The impact of artificial intelligence, chat GPT on the crypto market. on: May 25, 2023, 02:43:54 AM
On a related note, I recently saw that artificial intelligence is estimated to increase the productivity of S&P 500 companies and with it profits, while at australopithecustalk the debate is how to prevent it from being used in the forum rather than how to embrace it.

Of course it is going to have an impact on cryptocurrencies, and on society in general, in the same way that the internet or cell phones have had.
1580  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Wearing Double signature (Shan85) on: May 24, 2023, 04:41:20 AM
Not really smart though, maybe mindful and sneaky.

I agree.

In these cases, as in the case of the exchange that has just disappeared, probably being an exit scam, I wonder what it cost them to continue doing things legally, without being blinded by greed. Well, in the case of Shan85, he will no longer be able to do business with this account, and it will cost him to build up another one from 0 if he does not have other alts to be able to receive the income he already had. He could have done things with patience, and at the same time that he was working for a campaign he could have created an alt and build it up so that in the future he could have two accounts for which he could get paid in two campaigns in a legal way, without anyone being able to red tag him. He could have been rich in a country doing this, but greed blinded him.
