Hey cats!  Has anyone used the serial connections on the SP20 to connect multiple units to one controller?  Does that function work?  Is it documented?
It was a mistake done in the interview by the reviewer. The serial console is for debugging via a special cable, not for connecting multiple units.
763  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive SpondooliesTech SP35 Setup [HD] on: January 06, 2015, 11:27:55 AM
There seems to be some conflicting information here. If the PSU's are Artesyn DS1600SPE-3, then they can operate on 120V according to that datasheet; they'll just limit themselves to 800W.

Of course that's not enough for hashing, but shouldn't it be sufficient to boot up the controller and web interface? That's what I'm trying to find out: can I power the SP35 on 120V just to configure the pools (no hashing), and then plug it into 220V when ready to mine?
That's correct, 800W
So, just to confirm, will the SP35 boot up at 120V and allow one to change settings (such as pool information) on its web interface? Assume it is not hashing (e.g. not connected to the internet).

If the answer is "yes", can you provide an estimate of the SP35's power draw while in its idle (i.e. non-hashing) state? Again, thanks in advance.

Yes, we'll check power draw on Sunday.
Any update on this?
No problem powering the SP35 at 120VAC.
No problem hashing at that voltage as well but performance will be low due to the 800W limitation.

This was tested (for example, FCC tests were done on 120VAC and 800W).

When not hashing power consumption is very low. the management board consumes less than 10W and the fans can consume up to 65W if running @100%. Fans will only run at this speed until SW is loaded. At this point SW will reduce fan speed and fans consumption will drop to few watts.

Bought this Fractal Design Newton R3 1000W 80+ platinum value PSU, suits SP20 perfectly

The platinum PSU draws 450W for 1TH, for 0.5W/GH, it can deliver 1.2TH at 600W (need more powerful fan on SP20 to keep it cool). Cheap 80+ platinum PSU is the way to efficiency

Nice. Cost?

myminer.io which re-directs to spondoolies-tech.com / sails ORM finds your miners for you. how often do these miners phone home and what information is being sent ?
* Device ID
* LAN address
* External (WAN) address
* Firmware version

It can be disabled in settings.

cool, but SP20's price is no longer competitive

the bitmaintech price drop for the s-5 was very big.

Don't forget you get what you pay for.  Bitmain hardware, unfortunately, now has a reputation for being lower quality.  Also their customer service tends to be pretty poor as well.

M

well I have 8 sp20's and I sold the one demo s-5 given to me.
And you declared the SP20 winner.

in my home where stacking counts. the sp20 works better for me,but sell me the s-5 cheap enough and I will go back out and buy some just to tear down and fuck around with.
No thank you, we're selling only quality hardware.
For cheap open plastic stuff, look somewhere else.  Grin

OgNasty measurements:

Bitmain Antminer S5
Using the default frequency of 350M my S5 was able to get 1.13TH/s while using 661 watts (0.58W/GH) and exhausting 122 degree heat.

Spondoolies SP20
Using a voltage setting of 0.62 my SP20 was able to get 1.2TH/s while using 640 watts (0.53W/GH) and exhausting 124 degree heat.

BFL Monarch
Using stock settings 2 Monarchs were able to get 1.2TH/s while using 1040 watts (0.84W/GH) and exhausting 152 degree heat.

Asicminer Prisma
Using stock settings my Prisma operates at 1.2TH/s while using 1240 watts (1W/GH) and exhausting 150 degree heat.

hoping someone can help with this:

an SP20, which was running (underclocked) on the same PSU as my S5 is not accessible (GUI)

the S5 had a burnout yesterday and is dead, but ever since that, I can no longer access the GUI on the SP20 which was on the same PSU at the time of the burnout.

I can SSH into the miner.

how can I get the GUI visible again? i need to change some settings.

I must admit it a test we didn't do ...
Try the micro SD recovery.

Will the New Year's GB still be going on Monday?
We didn't decide yet.
RoadStress decided, we'll extend to Monday midnight.

Sounds good.  My OCD kicked in and I went ahead and ordered 4 more through the GB.  Support and a solid metal unit wins out. Thanks!

yeah I sold the s-5 demo since the unit 's sound and lack of stacking do not work well for me.  I have 8 running sp20's and although I know I should not buy any more I want another 2. Must resist.
So, can we declare a winner here?

 for me the sp20

 as  the noise levels on the s-5  and lack of stacking rule it out in my home.  but that is my house.  other homes the s-5 will be the better choice.

I have to post a photo of my final sp20 six pack stack in my garage.

Let's revisit within a month and check failure rates.

I hope you are not implying I'm going to have problems with my SP20s  Grin

C'mon Spondoolies, I'm trying to be good here. I don't need emails telling me to pull the trigger on the SP20s sitting in my cart. Tongue
They're asking to be adopted in a nice, welcoming home.

I'm just a small fish, so if you are talking about quantity, I'm out.  But if you are referring to the SP20 vs S5, build quality and the GUI goes to SP-T!!  Performance and price, no clear winner except the consumers that now have a choice.

Lots of SP31 inventory or are they running out? A 2 pack of those for 3k would be a nice New Years sale and on par with the December SP20 $\ghash deal.
No, but you can contact us for bulk deals.
