8041  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Best way how to prevent BTC wallet from hackers on: November 06, 2014, 06:13:41 AM
Is not download any soft or file from file uploading sites or E mails ? Grin
What do you guys think ?

Anti-virus.
Anti-virus softwares aren't 100% foolproof. Anti-viruses cannot detect every single computer malware that exist in the world. There are plenty of FUD viruses which have signatures not recorded in the Anti virus database. Anti-virus may not always identify the virus you download. The best way is to avoid downloading shady stuffs and keep a cold storage or at least enable 2FA features on the sites you use.
8042  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: blockchain.info on: November 06, 2014, 06:06:35 AM
if you have fast internet connection and some free space on your system
then you are recommended to download bitcoin core wallet to avoid such issues
Fast internet connection doesn't matter. If you have a celeron CPU and HDD with super fast connection speed, you are going to sync slower than another person with core I7 and SSD with slow connection speed. IO speed and CPU processing speed is also one of the factors in syncing. It's going to take sometime even with those speed. You must go to options, wallet and ensure the option, spend unconfirmed change is checked.
8043  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Invest 122$ in gawminers for 8mhs scrypt on: November 05, 2014, 04:30:38 AM
I don't like so much your investment, awful rest. Consider the idea to invest in PBMining, which is a good cloudmining platform !

Please tell us more.  I think GAW is bigger by far.  What makes PBMining better?  Do they have proof of not being Ponzi?

I personally don't like mining in the cloud. To much trust in certain companies.  Some sure are great others are not.

Though it is new, the current rate of cloudmining.website is better than both. It is 0.001 BTC/GHs. And they are already paying...
Paying doesn't mean they aren't a ponzi. They are quite new and I haven't seen any actual proof of them mining using their hardware. They can very well be a ponzi. For GAWminer, I have seen their proof of hardware actually functioning and their payout and shipment of hardware have been quite timely. For PBmining, I haven't seen any proof of actual mining going on.
8044  Other / Off-topic / Re: Post your Internet speed on: November 05, 2014, 04:25:55 AM
Where can I test my speed?
speedtest.net tests your ping, download an upload speed. Quite a useful website and smooth UI IMO.

Does it make a difference if I use autobet in betting?

nope, manual and autobetting same fate, you will lose in the long run.

how do you know he's gona loose in the long run. alot of people win
There's no strategy in gambling, with the house edge, you are more likely to lose your bankroll than winning. If you're lucky, you may win a few runs but you will eventually lose all of it.

So how is TOR safe if someone can do this?

Tor is pretty safe as long as you download all the updates. The latest Tor update disabled SSL3 and it is not possible to MITM attack with the newest version.
8047  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Play Flappy Bird on your Android Phone and win FREE BTC! Faucet + 0.001 Bonus on: November 04, 2014, 08:45:04 AM
This app is slow and bugged. I would prefer not to deposit any coins as the app isn't finally ready and still lacks so many features and contains a lot of serious bugs.

The owner vineyard has been the most nice person in maintaining his site , bitcoinscratchticket , now we all believe him ..

Maybe your phone is slow rather than his App
Hm, iPhone 5s with 64gb memory will be slow? lol.
Thanks for the comment btw.

Probably. You may have a lot of apps running. Memory does nothing here, amount of free ram and processor speed is the main factor here. On my HTC One M8, it works flawlessly. IPhone 5s have only 1GB of ram while other phones have 2GB++.
8048  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Was mining with the Raspberry Pi ever profitable? on: November 04, 2014, 08:23:56 AM
Obviously now it would not be but I wonder a few years ago was it ever feasible?
If you're saying hooking it up with a high end ASIC miner, it would be most probably profitable. Raspberry Pi is a machine which uses only 3-5watts. The core is a 700 MHz Low Power ARM1176JZ-F Applications Processor. If you try to mine it, the temperature would definitely go above 100 degrees Celsius with no fan and cooling. You would most probably just damage the CPU.
8049  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-qt 0.9.2.1 Won't synch on: November 04, 2014, 08:08:21 AM
In Nov 2013 I used v0.8.5 to buy a few BTC and learn the system. No problems. It did what it said on the tin.

After a crash in August 2014 I installed v0.9.2.1 (saving wallet.dat). It took a week to synchronise with the block chain. Thereafter it has refused to synchronise at all. Often it throws an exception, but if not it just seems to be inert.

I have 32 bit Windows XP Pro, an AMD triple core pentium running at 2.31 GHz and I have 1.75 Gb of RAM.

Is it obvious to you guys what's wrong ?

Can I help myself by using a "thin client" like Electrum bearing in mind that I don't understand what a thin client is ?

Although I only have a few hundred dollars in the wallet, it's making me a bit annoyed to lose control of it !

I see references in other posts to "having 10 connections to the bitcoin network". I don't know what this means. Should I know ? How do I find out how many...  ?
Windows XP and 32 Bit system MIGHT be the cause of the reason. I have seen a lot of people having problems with windows XP. Bitcoin Core should use less than 1GB of ram based on my experiences. How much disk space do you have?

SPV client aka. Thin client is a bit different from normal Bitcoin Core. They do not download and synchronize with the blockchain on your computer. Your private keys are generated on your own computer and it isn't shared with the server. The server just allows your client to request information and broadcast your transaction. Electrum is open sourced so you can verify and compile the code yourself. The security risk isn't huge unless you have malware on your computer. The best method of securing the wallet is to generate a paper wallet offline and send your funds there.

Having 10 connections means that the client have 8 outgoing connection and 2 incoming connection. It doesn't help you to sync since 2 incoming connection means others are connecting to you to get blocks. The main factors are CPU verification speed, disk IO speed and peer's speed.

You can also try to download the blockchain by torrent to sync faster.
8050  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie Gambler on: November 04, 2014, 07:57:36 AM
If a newbie gambler wants to play with bitcoin gambling sites, where should I play? Preferably dice games, with affiliate program or signature campaigns and with chat and invest?
There are a lot of gambling sites, almost half of those have no reputation and have the potential to run away with your coins any moment. For example, dicebitco.in and diceninja. Even though they appeared to be trusted, they shut down and ran off with investor's money or got 'hacked'. Personally, I think primedice is one of the best choice, they suffered a loss because a whale gained 2k profits. They also have affiliate program, their signature campaign is closed to staff members a few months ago. They used to run the biggest and the most trusted signature campaign before forum spam became a problem.
8051  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help - bitcoinc ore 0.9.3.0 won't complete sync on: November 04, 2014, 07:47:27 AM
If your old bitcoin machine is still up you can addnode or connect to it from the new one (in the conf or command line).  That way you can sync accross your lan a lot faster.

From: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Running_Bitcoin
Quote
-addnode=<ip>          Add a node to connect to and attempt to keep the connection open
-connect=<ip>          Connect only to the specified node(s)
He did it before and it didn't help. The peer's block were way above 297402. His client should have continued to sync since the peers have newer blocks. Even if you add more nodes, it won't be of any use since Bitcoin Core only allows 8 outgoing connections which means there will still be 8 outgoing peers.

Is blockchain.info the best online wallet for hot wallets?
It is one of the best as its open sourced with features with two factor authentication, no one would able to access your coins. Compared to coinbase, which have full access of your coins, blockchain.info do not have unencrypted private keys which means a hacker who can hack into blockchain.info online wallet would possibly never get your BTC. The best online desktop would still be Bitcoin Core, you would be getting the fullest control over your private key as no one else have access to your private key regardless of whether it's encrypted. Blockchain.info still have control over your encrypted private key but it would be hard to brute force. For the best online wallet with best security, blockchain.info would be recommended.

in ANY casino there is a limit to how much the casino can afford you to win, before they have to ask you to leave. dont sit there and criticise me, if he carries on. Edward came on the other day and said.. if he carries on, the site would close.. so pardon fking me for commenting.
I highly doubt primedice would lose in the long run. Look at AKcoinminer, he started off well but ended with a huge negative profit. House always wins in the long run, no matter what. If you stop him from betting right now, you would lose the chance of regaining 1k BTC.
8054  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ask for help: How to get start in bitcoin world on: November 03, 2014, 09:50:58 AM
actually, I am Chinese and I found it is hard to use CNY to deposit to buy BTC Sad Sad

maybe you will ask why don't use Chinese exchangers or why not ask in a China forum. cause I suppose the foreign one is more reliable.
AFAIK, there is a Bitcoin ATM which you can use to purchase Bitcoins. If there isn't, localbitcoins.com would be the best choice.
8055  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ask for help: How to get start in bitcoin world on: November 03, 2014, 09:48:57 AM
Understand basics like the following:

1. Learn to back up your wallet balance
2. Learn to save your private keys and do not share them
3. Learn bitcoin balance typo errors can be made eg: 0.1 when you meant 0.01
4. Learn bitcoin is a non reversible payment
5. Learn to use reputable escrow with +1 or higher
6. Know in the bitcoin world of business anything can be gone within in instant.

Is backing your btc wallet really necessary?

I suppose, it is unnecessary if I just buy/sell. is it right?

Yes if you want to keep your bitcoins online without having a wallet on your computer, but I don't know if that is very safe.
If the site goes down or is hacked, you could lose control of the bitcoins. : /
Online shared wallet are not 100% secure. The operator have full control of your Bitcoins, try using wallets like blockchain.info and enable 2FA. Since they do not have any control over your Bitcoins, you will not lose them if they get hacked or run away. It is pretty much secure from hacker too compared to normal desktop wallets as they need 2FA code to access your account.

so to protect my wallet well is the most important thing. Can I copy the wallet to another place then delete it after I update it?
You can but there is a risk. A hacker may seize the chance to get your wallet before you delete it if you do it offline, I suppose there is no problem.

I recommend block erupters. BEST value in SHA256 MH/S.
Are you in 2013? USB ASICs are not even profitable right now, they can't even breakeven with the skyrocketing difficulty. It is only a collector item now, you won't be able to earn with a USB ASIC.

» 10GB SSD HDD
» 1000GB Trafic / 1 tera

» Price : $15

Is this the price per month?Huh

I can get such VPS for half the price for a whole year !!
The specs have been upgraded so it would be more worth it. However, take note that the VPS is hosted in Singapore. For many other VPS, they are hosted at low cost datacenter thus their price would be cheaper. VPS in Singapore tend to be more expensive due to its location.
