8941  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: dust coins on: June 23, 2014, 12:25:30 PM
Most of the faucets do not pay out, until you accumulate +/- 5000 to 6000 satoshi. Does this qualify as dust then? They mostly do that, to decrease tx cost, when they send it to you.

What amount can then be defined as "dust"

Should it not be defined as "dust" when the tx fee to send it, is higher than the amount itself?  Huh
I believe for an output to considered as dust amount, the output must be less than 5430 Satoshis.  If you consider it not to be dust when the transaction fee is higher than the outputs, people would be spamming the whole network with one satoshis.
8942  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Martingale System on: June 23, 2014, 12:19:21 PM
Are you the type who can risk 1BTC for 1 satoshi? Maximum you can get is 0.001 which have a huge risk of busting before that. Once, I used 0.01BTC to win 0.07BTC. And you know what happened almost immediately after I started my 9th round with 0.02? Bust within minutes, with the same odds, same amount of starting bet and increased bankroll. It can bust within a few minutes after you start the game, imagine how long it takes to earn 0.001

Well couldn't you say that about all gambling? Are you willing to risk 1btc for 1 btc, 0.10 for 0.30 etc. People try use the Martingale and start off with small amounts because they think it's less of a risk, and in the short term it usually is, but it's knowing when to quit/cash out.
But for most small amounts, it usually cannot make a decent profit, subtracting the fees. Most people usually want at least 1% of profit before quitting , this can take some time.
8943  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin transaction times on: June 23, 2014, 12:17:02 PM
Hello,

I've been doing a lot of research on bitcoin and its weaknesses. I realize that bitcoin is software and that anything about it can be changed. After using it for a few months, I think the greatest annoyance is the long transaction times. For large purchases such as transferring money or purchasing a house, the transaction times are fine, but if bitcoin is to really take off in day to day life, it needs much faster transaction times. No one will want to wait around for 15 minutes for confirmations.

My question is, since bitcoin is software, will the transaction times be decreased in the future? I think they absolutely must be or else another cryptocurrency will come along and do it.
I don't think this can affect a lot of users. Transaction times are hardcoded into the system itself, in order to alter it, a fork must happen. There is no need for this to happen as compared to most purchases done online, this is actually the fastest payment method. Some merchants offer faster confirmations feature by waiting a few minutes to make sure it is fully populated, the risk would be lesser compared to those who consider it as paid immediately when they see the transaction. Disabling incoming connections, only connect to well connected nodes is a precaution the merchants can take.

If you are looking for wallet generators, https://github.com/pointbiz/bitaddress.org have a good interface. If you are looking for those who host your wallet, I think blockchain.info is the best.
8945  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Martingale System on: June 23, 2014, 12:02:16 PM
is it really worth the try. i'm curious about it and want to try it on freebitco.in. I also found a script online.
dont try martingale for long term i'v try a couple time on many site if you use for longterm you loss everything because system can read your trick
so if you want try it on short term i hope you have luck with this method

I've also tried in on long term using a script and after a while i start losing, what do you think on how much time before the system knows if i am using this system?
Gambling sites predetermined bets and show you the encrypted hash. They cannot change the result when you roll. If you want to have more security, use a unique client seed. The fact that you lose in the long run is because variance occurs and long losing streaks are almost guaranteed to happen.
8946  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Martingale System on: June 23, 2014, 11:59:36 AM
Martin gale will work on small ammounts on a big balance. Just quit whilst you're ahead and don't get greedy.
Not really, you can also bust on the first few rounds, even if you have a big balance, the risk is actually higher here.

This gambling system works so that you must take ever escalating risks to potentially receive a small reward that does not increase with your increased risk.
It isn't worth is to use 1BTC to get 1 satoshi. If you actually want to use it to make a decent profit, example, 0.01, you can bust within the first few rounds, variance occurs so you might get a very bad streak immediately.

But you won't just win 1 satoshi. You could start betting 1 satoshi each time but if you've got a 1btc balance eventually you'll have a big loosing streak and eventually win where you make a little profit. Rinse and repeat.

I know the odds and I didn't say it was foolproof. You're unlikely to hit 23 loses for a while and obviously you take the gamble that this wont happen on your first rounds. Get greedy and gamble all day and you'll most certainly lose out.

2^23 and that 1BTC is gone.  It most likely won't happen on the first bet, but it very well could.  The fact you fail to understand odds is saddening.  Whatever the final exit limit is can be calculated at 2^(X-1) - X is the number of times you can fail before loosing everything.

This is the reason casinos have table limits to keep absurdity out.

Either use a escrow or only trust the person if that person is reputable and trusted among the community. I believe this type of scam is quite commonly seen.
8948  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Remembering all of those passwords without sacrificing security on: June 23, 2014, 07:42:52 AM
Bruteforce use a dictionary of words. So use a password with no words. example {#.#--#.#}_GLLo--->>69 {Mixture of Uppercase and lower case and symbols and numbers}

But as a previous poster said, if you get keylogged, NO password is strong enough. Or if you webcam is not covered, and your keystrokes streamed, via cam and logged, hmmm well you f$%^.

So cover those cams guys and girls.  Grin

I'm curious about keylogging. What happens if you use a password manager? Like, does it just give hackers "CMD+V or CTRL+V"? Auto form filling?

My password generator is currently set for 23 characters. How long until somebody comes up with something to break that?

-W

It can be possible for hackers to steal your passwords by infecting your computer. Some keyloggers can reveal your clipboard history. Your password should be secure enough for a long time, an even long time if you include nonstandard characters like (#?$&!). Your password should not be a common word which most people can think of.
8949  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin (difficulty) on: June 23, 2014, 07:25:24 AM
Bitcoin Difficult can stop increase if no one mining Bitcoin again
because i guess difficult speed depend of how many miner
Actually, it is impossible for everyone to stop mining bitcoin. If no one mines it difficulty will decrease, difficulty will stay constant if the hashrates stays constant. Hashrates affect the network, not the amount of miners, one miner can have a few PH and increasing it every month and the difficulty will still increase.
8950  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain miners fee on: June 23, 2014, 06:23:10 AM
recently i send BTC 0.132 to another wallet
The Fee must be 10k satos, but they charge me 60k satos !
Is that depend on how big the transaction ?
Can you tell me the example of the transaction that cost big fee ?
thanks

You can set the fee yourself, however, if you have alot of inputs or outputs, you will need a higher fee as the size is bigger. The calculation method is stated below.

Code:
Transaction priority is calculated as a value-weighted sum of input age, divided by transaction size in bytes:

priority = sum(input_value_in_base_units * input_age)/size_in_bytes

Transactions need to have a priority above 57,600,000 to avoid the enforced limit (as of client version 0.3.21). This threshold is written in the code as COIN * 144 / 250, suggesting that the threshold represents a one day old, 1 btc coin (144 is the expected number of blocks per day) and a transaction size of 250 bytes.

So, for example, a transaction that has 2 inputs, one of 5 btc with 10 confirmations, and one of 2 btc with 3 confirmations, and has a size of 500bytes, will have a priority of

(500000000 * 10 + 200000000 * 3) / 500 = 11,200,000
8951  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Help? Signature advertisement? on: June 23, 2014, 06:12:57 AM
I'm fairly new with this forum but I heard about earning bitcoins by using your signature spot to advertise. How do you go about doing that?
with signature adv you can earn some Bitcoin by just put their adv every posting your make, but not many signature available for newbie member, i suggest increase your activity by posting min 14 posting for 2 week because activity only increase 14 / 2 week
after you reach jr.member you can join with signature adv
There are a few newbies campaign, the post must be constructive, not just random post.
8952  Other / Meta / Re: HOW TO PROTECT MY ACCOUNT FROM HACKER ? on: June 23, 2014, 06:11:31 AM
recently i saw many account have been hack... Sad
Is secret question can doubling my account protection ?

Need more suggestion guys...thanks

1. use strong password with many special characters (min. 13 characters)
2. use best antivirus and firewall programs to protect your PC from malware and keylogger
3. don't use guess-able secret questions answer
4. don't install suspicious programs, it can make you hacked

we must be carefull since higher level account can use for signature campaign and many of them sold in markets

make sure always logged out before shutdown your PC and use 2FA more added security for your account
Bitcointalk doesn't offer 2FA. Why do you want to log out before shutting down the PC, I see no effect if its your own computer.
8953  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Recently deposited 1.15btc and I believe it has been compromised.. (support req) on: June 23, 2014, 05:57:54 AM
Services like Coinbase, JustDice, Primedice all moves your funds once it have arrived in your wallet. Can you specify what service are you using? Most of the services either moves it to the hot wallet or cold storage to enhance the security. If you still cannot see the amount in your wallet, recheck the address and see if you typed it correctly. If you typed it correctly, contact the support, I believe they will solve it out for you. Shared wallet mostly displays the amount on your wallet but moved it to their storage.
8954  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan wantd .009btc on: June 23, 2014, 05:19:49 AM
Well I want to use it for something good for ROI any ideaS ? Ive had decent luck at poker made 8 chips at seals wit da freeroll^^
You can lose a lot in gambling. People usually don't lend to gamblers unless they provide a good collateral.
8955  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: P2Pool vs Normal Pool - Which one better ? on: June 23, 2014, 05:18:46 AM
Since P2Pool is very small it has a higher variance as it's small size creates a greater chance that it's two week luck will be something other then 100% this can work for or against you
In the long run, both p2pool and big normal pools can have the same amount of payout, I believe p2poool will have a bit higher payout.
Why would p2pool have a higher payout? There is nothing to support this (AFAIK)

The problem is that when difficulty increases a "luck" of 100% will be less, so if your luck is 90% during one period of difficulty and then 110% luck the next difficulty then your total reward will be less then if you had 95% luck over both difficulty periods (assuming a 20% increase in difficulty).

Additionally p2pool does not generally offer any kind of merged mining while most major pools do.
P2pool actually offers merged mining options. Pools usually require a fee, and due to the fact that most of the pools have high latency, you might experience a higher amount of rejects. With p2pool, you can setup your own node and you can experience a lesser latency. The luck will gradually even out. I don't think the luck affects much of the payouts. No pool can experience good luck for the whole time, the luck does not actually affects the payout since sometimes p2pool find blocks faster than normal pools.
8956  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sending BTC on: June 23, 2014, 04:53:52 AM
If a TX is not confirmed by the network after 24 hours the nodes will "forget" the TX and the BTC will remain in the address that you tried to send it from.

That's not entirely true. I've had unconfirmed transactions (specifically, those sent without fee), that have been unconfirmed for 2-3 days, but eventually were confirmed. So I'm not sure what the hard-and-fast rules are here.
This may have been an exception to the rule. My understanding of the Bitcoin protocol is that nodes should delete unconfirmed TX after 24 hours. I looked on google to double check and couldn't find anything concrete. One thing you could do to take care of this issue would be to send a TX that uses at least one of the same inputs as the unconfirmed TX with a bigger fee and this should be confirmed by the network.
Different clients have different behaviour, some rebroadcast for a long time if it remains unconfirmed. Some stop broadcasting after a period of time.
8957  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Remembering all of those passwords without sacrificing security on: June 23, 2014, 04:24:32 AM
+1 for keepass.
It is free, user-friendly, open source, and you can make random strong passwords with it. Smiley

If you lose your credentials to your keepass then you will lose your credentials to everything. If your keepass file somehow gets corrupted or otherwise inaccessible then you will lose access to everything.

You can always write all your password down on a piece of paper and place it somewhere which is secure.

8959  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan wantd .009btc on: June 23, 2014, 03:49:36 AM
You can't blame us, people made different kinds of excuses to loan a small amount of money, only to default later. This often happens with newbies and Jr member. Forget about cloudmining, you can never make a profit or even ROI, the difficulty is rising too fast and the price is too high.
8960  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: After 2140 - Last Bitcoin mined. on: June 23, 2014, 03:46:42 AM
Mining is essential to keep the network going. The 25 BTC with a block is called a block reward because it is what it says it is - a reward for successfully hashing the block.
Read up on the protocol documentation to find out more.

When 21M BTC are rewarded from blocks, there will be no more blocks that have a reward, but miners will still be rewarded with all the tx fees, just as they are now.

If everyone shuts down their ASIC units, the difficulty will go down, and GPU mining would then be back. But it's 2140, who knows what's gonna happen in 100+ years.

To be honest, I'd be very surprised if bitcoin survived that long. I think there could be existential threats (such as new decryption methods that threaten public/private key security, etc) that loom within that time. Hopefully not, but.... Undecided
We can make a fork to another algorithm, however, ASICs would have to be redesigned. I believe bitcoin can stay secure for a very long time or even forever.
