821  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are the Bitcoins to been exhausted ? on: August 20, 2016, 08:38:11 PM
As for equipment, by the time you reach the end of mining, you'd probably have to pay to get rid of your equipment. If ASIC's get obsolete in a year today, I imagine how much they'll last in a 100 years from now. The rest has already been answered.

I always question why some people put so much thought into this? This is going to happen once you've likely passed away, ergo it won't matter to you.

I think it's a valid question. It won't happen to you or to us, specifically, but it will happen to your children. That alone should be enough to raise questions in one's heads. Yes, we have a long time to think about it, but we also had a fair share of time to think about scaling and blocksize...
822  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should BTC Opinions be valued based on your BTC wallet size? on: August 20, 2016, 08:29:11 PM
Should BTC Opinions be valued based on digital signature verifiable wallet size?

No. There are people with a lot of money that don't really say/do/support anything good and there are a lot of poor people with great ideas (some of these people get ignored simply because they don't have money).

Opinions are already based on money with fiat currencies. We definitely do not want that with Bitcoin.

EDIT: this made me remember this thread. Maybe an interesting read for you. Reading my posts quickly, I can say my opinion didn't change much since then.

Correct, I was editing my post with the link Cheesy Thanks.

There's already a thread about this.
825  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese miners controls Bitcoin Bloomberg Confirms! on: August 19, 2016, 05:03:54 PM
Numbers on the Bloomberg article aren't really exact. So why is Rimbit better? Haven't heard of it yet.
826  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 0.13.0 Binary Safety Warning on: August 19, 2016, 04:51:46 PM
2 days later, 3 pages later and there is still no clue as to what this threat may be and how to cut this issue from the root up.
I guess the information is there, but it isn't public. I do recall reading on IRC that maxwell talked to cobra.

Then the information isn't there. There should at least be an explanation on why the information isn't being disclosed in case it's something private. Sorry being so critical about this, but this is what I think.

I guess I'll have to start hanging around on IRC.

2 days later, 3 pages later and there is still no clue as to what this threat may be and how to cut this issue from the root up. Domain admin has probably seen these kinds of posts already, so I think it's imperative for him or someone more knowledgeable of this situation to give us a bit of update on why this warning was issued.
828  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two things are certain: Bitcoin and Taxes on: August 19, 2016, 12:24:43 AM
Easy money comes at a large price.

Nothing in life is free.

That's true, and Bitcoin isn't easy or free.

WHEN LARGE FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS ADOPT BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY IT IS BECAUSE THEY SEE ABSOLUTE UNTESTABLE POWER.

It's up to each one of us to decide to use a private blockchain or not Cheesy
829  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Announcement ;) on: August 18, 2016, 05:53:40 PM
WTF did I just read... When I thought I'd heard about everything something even more weird comes up. Roll Eyes I can't see what did the author of the "giveaway" had to win with all this.

Quote
“By the way, there are laws about giveaways in every state,”

I don't think this is relevant with Bitcoin, but I'm not a law expert.

If you want a gambling script, you can use this one.
831  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 0.13.0 Binary Safety Warning on: August 18, 2016, 12:53:58 AM
Saw the warning and came here to post, when I saw this thread. I am very concerned about this, pretty curious on who's threatening Bitcoin binary distribution and what does it have to win with this...

Way better this way. Next year we'll see what they come up with...
833  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cold storage n cross plataform malware on: August 17, 2016, 05:57:41 PM
do you face any issues with size limits of qrcodes for transactions or everything goes fine? Thanks Unamis, will dig into it.

Yes, I do. Sometimes my camera doesn't have enough definition to capture a big QR Code and I eventually have to scan 2 or 3.

Fair point, I didn't check. Remembered reading on this quite a long time ago, guess I have to update myself Cheesy

You need to be synced to be able to play.
To sync with bootstrap there are some instructions in OP, don't know how far it's up to date or even if it still works. Pls confirm when you try.

yeah its not syncing and is not connecting even if i turn on the proxy .

Sad

There are nodes listed on the second post of this thread
835  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Block disappeared - wtf? on: August 17, 2016, 12:56:59 AM
Still think you and blockchain caught some kind of fork. Anyways, blockchain craps out a bit easily, so... yeah.
836  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How can i pass on my bitcoins in case i die? on: August 17, 2016, 12:54:48 AM
Rent a deposit box in your bank and in will of bank write name of your loved one so that he can claim all money you have in your bank and also deposit box there in which you can put bitcoin paper wallet as well as instructions on how to get that bitcoin in form of cash in hand because many are still new on using bitcoin.

Better to give those passwords of your wallet to your family first before you die. . or always give those gift and make a note to your table one you die they can read the note for your bitcoins to use from your inherit after you die..

i think just give them your private keys and then show them how to use it and when you will die they will be able to use those bitcoins

All of these require trust...

Or better way, buy a safe and lock down your private keys there, and use safe key as a necklace. so they can open the safe only when you die!

This isn't a bad idea, indeed Smiley

Do you have a workable setup using linux with QR code? If so, if you can give some directions because lack of info about a working/known solution.

Just use qrencode, simple and effective. Links: 1, 2

I remember reading long and hard about this subject when I was using Electrum on two computers with USB cold storage signatures.  I was mostly reading about Linux 100% on both computers.  Configured without auto-start for USB's a solid Linux setup to my knowledge has never been "tagged" by malware.  Bitcoin use via USB implementation as described in this thread seems pretty safe.  I hope someone will point out a direct link to any article confirming such an attack has taken place in the "wild" with a BTC loser and transaction cited.

I was using a VM on my "hot wallet" debian computer that was only operational during btc activities.  Seemed to make sense to isolate BTC activities from daily workspace, which is where most if any malware jumps on board a computer.  Electrum is a great product and its so simple to use.

There are known exploits that work via USB. However, I can't link any to Bitcoin. I don't take risks with USB's, however...

What do you think use two different kind of linux for cold n watch-only?
Would have any benefit regard malware efficiency cross plataform?
As there is no practical solutions besides using usb sticks would be nice to make it harder for malwares n keep benefiting electrum asy to use cold storage.

doubt there is any difference since all linux distros are based on the same linux kernel. and also as long as you are keeping things in cold storage there shouldn't be any problems.

when you boot from the USB you shouldn't mount anything, shouldn't have network,...

Do you have a workable setup using linux with QR code? If so, if you can give some directions because lack of info about a working/known solution.

read the topic unamis76 posted above: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1166021.0
there is a solution posted there by CIYAM, although i haven't a single clue how it works but i am looking into it!
you may want to ask the Author himself.

Cannot find anything regard ciyam+electrum........ in electrum github there is open issue regards electrum+zbar

I don't think that the product CIYAM refers to exists/is released.

1. why are they not securing customers funds in the same manner as their own reserves, for them to think customers funds could be lost but their reserves could not be

Now this is a really good question Cheesy

Talk is cheap.

Exactly... Advertising their service this way is also cheap too.

Using this vehicle, the Omni Layer Foundation will engage market making in the EUR/USD pair across both decentralized exchanges and other exchange partners.

No! We want USD/BTC and EUR/BTC...

EURT is fully backed by a banking trust in Taiwan on a 1 to 1 basis of deposits to coins issued.

This doesn't sound good at all.

It looks like this will complicate things instead of simplifying them, I think... You will need an extra token to trade another token, so to speak.

Make a will with clues on how to obtain instructions to uncover the private keys. Leave instructions teaching how to spend them and/or pointing to them... I guess that's pretty much it.
