982  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 17, 2014, 05:56:56 AM
cAPSLOCK, that was my first thought and then I read this.....

"But fear not, within the next week or two we are going to have a way you can donate to the ongoing development of Monero whilst still getting something directly."

Aha?

i'd like to rent a girlfriend for a few hours with monero
983  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: -> Monero Community Hall of Fame <- on: August 17, 2014, 05:41:09 AM
Brothers, Monero needs our help. I plan on increasing to the next level very soon. Perhaps some others would like to join in!

Quote
We are always quite hesitant when it comes to discussing donations, but they have been quite thin, which does make our job that much more difficult. With our increased download and testing equipment costs, we are spread quite thin. But fear not, within the next week or two we are going to have a way you can donate to the ongoing development of Monero whilst still getting something directly. In the interim, please do not forget that the donation addresses are in the OP, and that it is your ongoing support that is helping us plough ahead with development!

.003/.00299015 on Polo.
Red everywhere.

i'm with amino. my initial target (called just after the last peak) was for august 20 reversal. since i've made that public, i fully accept it will not be correct, but historically these prices have never lasted long in monero world.
985  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero (XMR) Speculation thread on: August 16, 2014, 10:15:34 PM
Buying XMR under 3 mBTC is like buying BTC under $500. It's just a good price and it won't last long.

Buy buy buy

Trying to buy some more monero, the bank stopped my bitcoin purchase and froze my account. Im a bit confused I thought it was my money.

Is there any easier way to get monero directly.

are you in the US?

if you want to send me some cash in the mail i'd sell small amounts of monero
987  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [MRO] Monero Blockchain Explorer monerochain.info on: August 16, 2014, 02:29:41 AM
Anybody know what's going on with Monerochain?

Are there some good alternatives to use while the site is down?

Thanks.
988  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero (XMR) Speculation thread on: August 15, 2014, 10:43:03 PM
is monero still a strong coin in long term invesment? whats your thoughts? ty.
How long term are we talking? Several months? I don't think the price will grow due to the high inflation of ~21,500 coins per day. Monero emits around 86% of its supply over 4 years. Not sure why they chose such a horrible emission schedule, it certainly hurts investor confidence.

It's a great emission schedule. It ensures that there will be a sufficient amount of time for many adopters to get XMR at a good price before bubbling up. Block reward is constantly decreasing, in fact now it is below 15.

LTC emits just as many coins per day so it is not really a fair argument to say that Monero is not capable of sustaining a higher price due to the inflation rate.

Depth of XMR buy orders has increased by 100+ today, currently sitting at 390 BTC.

Prepare for liftoff.

Update: Now at 425 BTC.

i'm sick of this guy who has been around for about 4 months genuinely thinking we're trying to scam people out of money by promoting monero. on the contrary, we're trying to help the world achieve monetary privacy and be honest about it, no need for trust.

it's like the movie THEY LIVE...you try to put the fucking sunglasses on someone and they refuse!

You could continue mining Monero with your GPUs, check out http://monero.cc/

As for the ASICs, just keep them running and hope that eventually Bitcoin will rise to higher levels (it will).

992  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What if bank closes account for trading btc? on: August 13, 2014, 08:02:03 PM
Instead of trading the BTC for fiat back and forth like a madman to make profits, why not just go FIAT->BTC and stop worrying about banks messing with your money?

Hopefully I'll be in the position to do this in a few months I would love to do it at the moment I still have things to pay in fiat

I can only speak to my experience with a major US bank and Coinbase, with which I have made regular buys and sells for over 1 year now. Before that I simply bought BTC with cash directly from miners or anonymously through Bitinstant.

As long as you're not doing huge volume and its for your own personal investment, they shouldn't bother you.

Start selling BTC online and having randoms making cash deposits to your personal checking account, might raise a red flag.

994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to keep your bitcoins secure if you suddenly disappear (jail or prison) on: August 13, 2014, 07:46:02 PM

Paper wallets handed out to family and very close friends, use password.  Could also bury one somewhere.
I don't think this would work very well. What if the government were to talk to your family/friends, find that you have given them papers to keep, then get search warrants to seize anything you have given your associates?

Ok let's say they do manage to grab the paper wallets from your family. They still don't have the password, they can't spend the funds. Unless they manage to coerce it from you.

Bonus: If you destroy the public key and ONLY save the encrypted private key of your paper wallet, Gov won't be able to figure out your bitcoin address.
995  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to keep your bitcoins secure if you suddenly disappear (jail or prison) on: August 13, 2014, 04:00:35 PM
Option A: BIP38 paper wallet. Spread multiple copies out amongst family across the country and internationally if you have people you trust.

Option B: Stamp out the encrypted private key on a piece of metal and bury that somewhere safe where you can retrieve it years later.

Do both if you feel like it, why not be as safe as possible?

Crazy Option C: Get the encrypted private key tattooed on you but change 1 digit that only you know of.

996  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero (XMR) Speculation thread on: August 13, 2014, 01:23:48 PM
They're just troll/spam accounts that for some reason have now adopted a strategy of posts that are just as poorly written as the previous I-hate-XMR posts but are now I-love-XMR. Why they are doing this (other than increasing post count) I have no idea.

They must have an anti-XMR agenda and they are trying to distract us from honest discussion, is how I see it. It's enough for me to start up a few sockpuppets and go populate the DRK threads with stuff like this.
997  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Petitioning Major outlets and Exchanges for Monero on: August 13, 2014, 05:18:53 AM
Monero developers need to make the wallet easier to use and offer public wallet service like blockchain before an average user such as myself will consider using and investing in Monero.

And maybe you should read the Monero Missives or watch the google firechat the next time Wink

The monero devs have not released a wallet.

they have released a great command line wallet and they have announced a GUI wallet to come...

Rpietila and other observers are kind to share their research, findings, and opinions with the community - this is how I feel. If you disagree, I am sorry.

How do you feel this way when he can't even answer a simple question like how is XMR less volatile than BTC as he claims?

You would think as a gifted analyst he would be able to answer this right away instead of avoiding the question altogether.

He did explain it in the Monero Economics thread somewhere - I'm trying to find it.

Basically, the volume weighted average price of Monero over its entire existence is somewhere around 0.004. There have been several spikes but none beyond an order of magnitude (10x). Bitcoin has been much more volatile...of course.

I understand you are comparing the volatility of Monero compared to the volatility of Bitcoin during the last 2-3 months, we are talking about volatility of Bitcoin All-Time compared to volatility of Monero All-Time.
999  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero (XMR) Speculation thread on: August 12, 2014, 05:47:42 PM
Monero price is not cheap even now, but it will not stay this cheap for long. And the reason is this:

Wow, you are _really_ bad at this. You don't have any sort of upper hand on how the alt markets work, you just have waaaaaay too much self-confidence and ego, probably handed down to you from your parents.

How much money have you lost people since you crowned yourself King Analyst? Do you realize most people go to school, receive some sort of training and on-the-job experience before they are given the title "analyst"?

Have fun losing the rest of your inheritance money, just don't expect us to jump down the rabbit hole with you.

It is everyone's responsibility to do their own due diligence. The mantra here used to be "only invest what you can afford to lose". If someone needs to be protected from mismanaging their funds, they may need to reconsider bitcoin altogether. Cryptocurrency teaches us, quite unforgivingly, to assume complete responsibility for your money.

Rpietila and other observers are kind to share their research, findings, and opinions with the community - this is how I feel. If you disagree, I am sorry.

This is kind of what it feels like to hold Monero.
