It is a great chance for bitcoin to come out of darkness. Porno industry is the largest market and like it was with blu ray and hd dvd it may help bitcoin to become popular.

Yeah , but bitcoin doesn't offer the "rebill the cc card of the idiot till he finds out" option.

You can see how much impact that has since sites that accept btc charge almost double for a month compared to cc payments.

Does the title of this thread bug anyone else?
I keep seeing "embarrass", when it is clearly meant to be "embrace" (though I suppose it could be either, I think the OP meant embrace as it is slightly punnier.)

Aside from our great resellers, I wanted to let people know that Tealet.com has a deal on their Bitcoin Tea Box, that includes our Bitcoin keychain.

See our Bitcoin keychain resellers here:

Quite a list.
Can't get enough of these keychains.  Everyone that sees one wants one.
1743  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Bitcoin 2014 in Amsterdam on: May 11, 2014, 11:11:31 PM
+1 to NewLiberty...I live in North-Amsterdam (Noord) and can totally recommend it...anyone want to buy a Russian submarine?

You will need a bicycle, but there are a 1000 bike rental places.

Noord is like the Amsterdam SOHO.  Many ethnicities all blending in harmony with lots of artistic flair, parks.  Close enough to all the action but far enough to have quiet time.  Its the hidden gem of the city.
1744  Economy / Goods / Re: Market Testing on: May 10, 2014, 08:12:34 PM
so these silver ones are not pure silver correct, and does any know who sells pure gold bitcoins?

.999 fine silver, yes.

These are Bitcoin Specie, from the Bitcoin Specie Project.
We are working on the gold versions as well as different sizes of the silver.  Please expect these shortly.
There is a more detailed explanation of the goals of the Project at the link in my sig, but the essence of it is to create a useful pocket change for Bitcoin.
There is no bitcoin stored in them (in the same way that there are no dollars stored within silver dollars)
The value does fluctuate with the prices of silver and bitcoin and is continuously available at Coldhardca.sh (that is where the QR on the specie silver piece takes you).  The premium over silver is also listed there and you can see by changing the quantity that it decreases.  This is to encourage distribution for those that buy in high quantity and sell or use in small quantity.  This activity is rewarded by its pricing mechanism.
Pricing is competitive with the national pieces such as Silver Eagles, but our quality is higher, and they are more collectible.

In the endgame, we will contend with many issues.  One of these is the volume of transactions hitting the block chain.  The block chain is an expense to bitcoin.  Use of pocket change for small in person payments as an off block-chain transaction helps to reduce the cost of the bitcoin currency.

Additionally, these are purely anonymous and not pseudononymous.  Cash and carry type transactions can be easily facilitated with them as a store of value.

Also in the endgame, our expectation is that bitcoin will not have the volatility that it has currently, increasing the utility of these.

The project started last year at the Spring Bitcoin Foundation conference and so is only a year old.  It is not profitable (there are still too few bitcoin folks, and too spread out).  Nevertheless, we will persist in the effort and welcome those who would join the project.  There are many opportunities.

Beware, there are some counterfeits but they are easy to distinguish if you know what to look for (the one pictured is not a counterfeit).

1748  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Reddit’s science forum banned climate deniers. on: May 09, 2014, 04:48:22 PM
Science is all about questioning the "experts".  Once that stops, it is no longer science.

wasnt the basic of science was to have a hypothesis, questions to the unkowns, and to show facts? that was my view of science was suppose to be based on.

According to the human made climate change supporters, this is exactly what they've been doing all that time. The people who question their methodology are the non scientists, and should be banned.

Is your assertion that scientists should not question methodoloties, or just with this particular case?

Or are you just not a fan of Richard Feynman?

Gold obvously doesnt have such big dips like bitcoin but in the long run bitcoin will win

If only we could compromise and get like a gold or silver bitcoin  Grin

Coming soon.

cool, luv it, I can sell.. but I need to touch it before  ... kind of tangible stuff .. real ,,, I saw it Wink

There are a bunch of problems with the earlier efforts, that we are looking to overcome.  Some security, some protocol, some legal, and a few more...  The goal is to advance the state of the art rather than simply do what's been done before with gold.

Another bitcoin conference took place in Moscow, Russia just a couple weeks ago http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/23racb/bitcoin_conference_is_happening_now_in_moscow/

I have my layover in Moscow for TBF conference in Amsterdam.  Aeroflot...
I'm hoping to test out the new regulations that let you leave the airport on layovers in Russia without a visa.  Will let you know how it goes.  Would love to see the city for a few hours.

1753  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The porn actress/actor will embrace Bitcoin ... because of the banks ! on: May 09, 2014, 04:32:03 PM
There are much larger markets, lol... real estate, cars, international remittance, internal corporate settlement.
There's no money in porn since broadband.

The take home message is that the FDIC handed us a list of the types of businesses that they are handing over to Bitcoin.
The banks are apparently so flimsy that they can't handle a few porn stars making deposits or not making them.  That is too much risk for those poor widdle banks.
No worries, Bitcoin to the rescue...
1754  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The porn actress/actor will embrace Bitcoin ... because of the banks ! on: May 08, 2014, 03:01:01 PM
In Europe, some banks started blocking transfers to Bitstamp, MtGox and other BTC-related companies for "safety reasons" (ha!)

In any case, I believe with this move they are only shooting their own legs. It is perfectly possible to operate a business without using their services, and after a while people who flip over will never want to come back at all.

It is possible, though it does create a few awkward moments when you are dealing with "normals"

I adore the blockchain.info model of doing without any banking from day 1.  I relish the purity of that, but they do have the luxury of only dealing with bitcoin folks.  When you are at the edges, and doing outreach, and etc, it forces some conversations when you have no bank (which are excellent conversations to have and great opportunities to explain the issues).

Each of us was once a "normal", this is the first generation of this new capability.

The mere fact that porn actresses are lumped in with we coin dealers shows that they are in very good company.  Wagons are circling.

I've been noticed from BofA on the New Liberty Dollar LLC coin dealership...
Accounts will be closed by the bank.  No explanation is given.

Need to add a bit more rock and roll...
1758  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Rand Paul Thinks Bitcoin Should Be Backed By Stocks on: May 02, 2014, 08:51:29 PM
+1

Naked short selling is just a cute way of saying "counterfeiting". This is done regularly to manipulate prices. If Bitcoin "value" gets attached to paper instruments the way gold and silver have then we're screwed.

Only if the instrument to do that naked shorting is used to set the prices of bitcoin in the p2p economy.
If we choose to ignore it for price determination, then the central banks can print as much money as they want to sell it naked short and no one will care.  Then that strategy will impoverish them and show their weakness.

Unlike gold and silver, taking delivery of the actual bitcoin is swift, easy, and doesn't require some insured massive vault and armored trucks and air-force planes to protect the delivery.  It happens swiftly and at low cost.
1759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Rand Paul Thinks Bitcoin Should Be Backed By Stocks on: May 02, 2014, 08:45:18 PM
It will be better if Bitcoins are backed by stocks, bonds, bullion and other investment material. The Bitcoin foundation can create a centralized Bitcoin exchange, and the profit from that can be used to purchase these assets.

Ugh... whatever.
TBF can do that, some folks might care, and if so it would be a central point of failure and attract attacks.

Better is what is already happening and what Rand Paul (and you) seem to be missing.
Bitcoin is backed by the full faith and credit of the p2p community of people that value it.
It is not backed by force, it is backed by our own goods and services.

For my own part, I am backing bitcoin with silver and gold.  Last year I committed to back it with 84 Million ounces of silver, redeemable on demand, and minted into Bitcoin Specie (link to the thread below).  Today that backing is inadequate and it has had to increase along with the value of bitcoin.
Anyone can participate in the DECENTRALIZED bank of bitcoin and back it with their own assets and services.  We all do this every day.

So what Rand Paul is hoping might happen, has already happened.  Many times over.  This decentralized system of valuation based on our own market making activities is far more robust than any central bank could hope to be, and much less costly.  We do not need a giant army to defend the fort where our gold is hidden, it is scattered all over the globe and individually protected.

We are the army, we are the bank, we are the issuers of the currency... and we need no central authority to give us permission to be that, it is an accomplished feat.  Done.

I have to admit that it looks like Stamp is moving more on its own the last 2 days or so. Maybe people finally realize following China is just stupid.

There may be some folks that would rather not do their trading within the China borders due to the legal environment.
