Software is never really done until at least version 3.1

Like Windows 3.1

And DOS 3.1

1903  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Everyone Panic. There's a lawyer among us. [FinCEN Walkthrough on p2] on: February 11, 2014, 04:17:14 AM

In there you say "A money transmission license is not a right, but a privilege."  Worded that way, it sounds believable.  But, considering they are applying it to person-to-person trading, is this really true?  Does the constitution protect our ability to trade between each other items that are not illegal?

For US Constitutional support you can start with Article 1 Section 10:

Quote from: US Constitution Article 1 Section 10
SECTION 10.

No state shall enter into any treaty, alliance, or confederation; grant letters of marque and reprisal; coin money; emit bills of credit; make anything but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts; pass any bill of attainder, ex post facto law, or law impairing the obligation of contracts, or grant any title of nobility.

No state shall, without the consent of the Congress, lay any imposts or duties on imports or exports, except what may be absolutely necessary for executing it's inspection laws: and the net produce of all duties and imposts, laid by any state on imports or exports, shall be for the use of the treasury of the United States; and all such laws shall be subject to the revision and control of the Congress.

No state shall, without the consent of Congress, lay any duty of tonnage, keep troops, or ships of war in time of peace, enter into any agreement or compact with another state, or with a foreign power, or engage in war, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent danger as will not admit of delay.

What two people contract amongst each other ought not be impaired by the state.

The state is relying on "guidance" from FinCEN here which is thin and untested in any court, so the thugs picked what they see as an easy mark to roll for the first impression.  Likely will get plead out like most in US federal.

Hi,Thanks for your reply. You stated anyone can buy them. Directly you mean? I have looked on your website(?). Am I looking in the wrong place? Cheers.

You can get them direct from me certainly, but there are better places if you are after just a few.  HardBTC.org, AgoraCommodities.com, Bitgild.com to name a few, and there are many others depending on where you are.  On ebay you take your chances, we've come across some fakes.

The distribution model allows anyone to join the project because the more you get, the better the premium is.  This means if you are getting them from a high volume retailer, you may also get a better price than if you get them from me as the retailer may pass on savings.  Generally they are also better at doing retail sales and are more responsive.

You can also combine a purchase with others to get a better price, and some folks earn theirs just by doing that sort of organizing for their meetup group.

This is to allow anyone who wants to start a Bitcoin business, but is not sure what to do, and wants an easy way to get started, can do so.
You essentially get a franchise without the franchise fee and responsibilities.

Very interesting. If you plan on attending the upcoming conference in Austin, it would be great to meet up again and discuss this.

I just received my order, BTW, and they look great!

OK, I'll pick up a ticket and see you there.  Smiley
1908  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 10, 2014, 06:49:29 PM
There was not nearly enough bid depth to sustain those prices. Two exchanges (finex, BTC-E) got wiped out with a single order.
Many trustworthy. Letīs say some sociopath basement guy with 300k+BTC can do this again a few more times, just for the lulz if he wants.
Keep on hodling Hodlers  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Not in your wildest fantasy.

There is exactly one person in that situation, he is not selling, and never has.

That would allow us to do much more than we are already to take bitcoin to places where the internet doesn't reach.

By "us" do you mean the bitcoin community in general or New Liberty Dollar?

Just wondering if you have ideas/plans for helping bitcoin work offline.

By us, I am referring to the folks working on the Bitcoin Specie Project, many are not affiliated with NLD.

For bitcoin working offline, the specie pieces are the first effort.
The specie pieces are essentially offline value tokens for bitcoin, that also do not take any bitcoin out of the blockchain transactions (so no risk of lost bitcoin).  In the endgame, when bitcoin has a more stable value, is accepted most anywhere at point of sale (not just online), and there are vastly more transactions needing processing, using specie for small transactions will make a lot of sense.  No delay for confirmations, no miner fee, no blockchain transaction record, complete fungability, as well as solving many of the other criticisms common to bitcoin's critics.
We suspect that there will be others doing something similar, and are happy to assist those that would like to try.  Competition is good, and as mentioned, this is not a way to get rich.  Making money on creating circulation pieces doesn't make sense to us, anything we would make on those would debase them of their circulating value.
The collector pieces we DO sell at a profit, and that pays for a fraction of the expenses, so we keep costs low and mostly are volunteering the time and effort.

We do have other plans to extend this, including paper wallet and/or warehouse receipt using highly secure printing methods for anti-counterfeiting.  We have some expertise in this as well and would be happy to contribute when there is sufficient demand to support such an issuance.
1910  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Bitcoin Specie Project sponsored by the makers of New Liberty Dollar on: February 10, 2014, 04:20:27 PM
So many words...

In summary those are just regular silver coins with a bitcoin logo yes?

I'd be happy for more silver coins everywhere to have bitcoin logos and less national logos.
1911  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Bitcoin Specie Project sponsored by the makers of New Liberty Dollar on: February 10, 2014, 04:11:47 PM
Why are your rounds only available to a select few?
Charging over the top premiums is just plain greed.

Thank you for the question.
Anyone can buy them.
As many are made as people want, they are limited only by market demand.

The premium goes down with volume, it is less than the US Mint charges for their eagles.
... and these are better in so many ways.

Maybe it looks like greed to you, but it feels like philanthropy to us and our accountants.
We aren't really making any money on this project, and don't expect to though it would be nice if we did.  That would allow us to do much more than we are already to take bitcoin to places where the internet doesn't reach.

Bitstamp is back to the niveau before the Gox news Smiley

Feels like the end of the DarkAges. Smiley
Should we stop using the term Gox and replace it with Clown ?

Or go back to MagicTheGatheringOnlineeXchange
1913  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC Utilty "The Hooker Point" on: February 10, 2014, 03:21:01 PM
If you are looking at trends, within the last month or two the number of hookers accepting bitcoin on MyRedBook.com went from 2 to 32.
The biggest growth was in Las Vegas and seems to have occurred around the time of the Bitcoin conference there.

Banks and users can choose to only deal with addresses that are "clean" with some identity tied to it.

Then block-reward coins will have a different values then circulated coins.
This is already occurred.  Fresh coins never spent can be sold for more.  Never having been exposed to a shipping address or any transaction, there are those today that may seek these above all others.
1915  Other / Off-topic / Re: Child pornography is evidence of a crime on: February 09, 2014, 03:26:39 AM
Point is, so long as there is a crowd for pedophilia, there will be CP; the only way to stop this is to cure pedophilia, not attack those who look at it after the crime has occurred.  The only effect of persecuting people who look at CP is an easy way to put anyone in jail if you can get the CP on their PC without their knowing; the fact that CP is still around on the dark web is enough to show us that the law is ineffective,

What was effective was the Anonymous Collective DDoSing every child porn site on the dark web.  That shut it down for quite a while and got a lot of heat off of the rest of their playground.
1916  Other / Off-topic / Re: Child pornography is evidence of a crime on: February 09, 2014, 03:23:51 AM
What I am getting at is that things like the Tor network and a DNS system that is based on bitcoin will make things like child pornography impossible to stop. "think of the children" is one of the things often said in going after certain technologies. Child pornography should be illegal and the makers of it and anyone who profits from it should be pursued and brought to justice... but the pictures themselves are evidence of a crime.

They are contraband as well, not simply evidence of a crime.  It is illegal to possess even if you have no knowledge of it.

Someone could make a post here on bitcointalk with an embedded picture of child porn, set to width 1, so you never even see it, and if it shows up in your browser cache, your computer can be seized and forfeited and you face being on a list for life with no chance of getting off and all your neighbors for the rest of your life will think poorly of you and try to get you to move for fear of their property value declining.

Tor and distributed DNSsec or anything else won't change that.  If you don't like it, talking about it here does nothing.  Write a bill and lobby to get it passed, anything short of that is you wasting your time.

For myself, changing the laws governing child porn is not anywhere near my top hundred list of things to do so you're on your own there.  Have many other fish to fry.  I wish you well.
1917  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Bitcoin Specie Project sponsored by the makers of New Liberty Dollar on: February 08, 2014, 05:24:12 PM
Maybe it's an idea to create your own webshop so that everybody can see what coins you currently have available and in stock. It's a bit confusing to find out what coins are currently for sale.

Would you like the job?  Smiley

I am reluctant to take on retail operations (even though that is where all the profit is).  There are very excellent folks doing a great job of selling direct and my focus on the quality of the pieces and the overall mission of the project are my highest priority.  The actual selling activities are a lot of work and I have deep respect for those that accept that challenge.
1918  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Bitcoin Specie Project sponsored by the makers of New Liberty Dollar on: February 08, 2014, 05:19:29 PM
I am contemplating making a small modification to coldhardca.sh to alert folks who scan one of the known counterfeits to alert them.  There are some technical challenges with this but it may be doable.

These counterfeits are of such poor quality that it is pretty easy to not get fooled but the sellers are using pictures of the real ones to sell them so if you are buying online, best get them from a trusted source.  There are so many differences that it is easy to tell a fake in person, but part of our job in this project is to make it even easier.  We will add some additional anticounterfeiting measures to designs going forward with additional scuplted elements and hard to replicate details in case these counterfeiters decide to get real.

The first batch of 2014s is shipping out today ...

If you show up at the Silicon Valley Meetup again, I bet you will have several buyers. Let us know in advance.

Thank you for the kind words.    Smiley
I was there for Andreas's last talk a few weeks ago Jan 28, and a few folks hit me up for some.
I expect to be in the area again on Feb 28-Mar2 for bilconference.com.
1920  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: North American Bitcoin Conference - Miami Beach - Jan 25 & 26th, 2014 on: February 08, 2014, 04:42:09 AM
No kidding. And Moe Levin (amonymous), the conference organizer, and OP of this thread, hasn't said a word here since January 14th.

He is actually a secret agent, usually out somewhere saving the world, and thus typically not available to answer questions, or disappears for months at a time. That also explains why you always see him in a suit, and why he seems to have come out of nowhere into the bitcoinsphere, and rocketed right up to "Hosting conventions."

He is such a good secret agent, that being a secret agent... is just his cover.
