6341  Other / Meta / Re: Quote posts from locked topics? Why it's not allowed? on: June 11, 2019, 10:00:06 AM
I understood what you meant. By now, we are unable to directly quote posts in locked topics, and it is truly inconvenience.
However, in the meantime, we have a subsitute for it, that is not perfect, but we can use it.
Methods:
- Using quote block
- Adding link to posts that we want to quote
For example:
This topic: Recovering hacked/lost accounts is locked, but if I want to quote the OP, or just part of it, applying this code (typing author=link to post you want to quote). Official guide is there: SMF Bulletin Board Code
Code:
[quote author=author]quote[/quote]
Code:
[quote author=https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5089777.0]
If your account was hacked

Email recoveries...@bitcointalk.org, ideally from the account's email address. Include your username and a brief description of the details of how/when the account was hacked. A signature will likely be required (see below).
[/quote]
Result:
If your account was hacked

Email recoveries...@bitcointalk.org, ideally from the account's email address. Include your username and a brief description of the details of how/when the account was hacked. A signature will likely be required (see below).
That's it.

Unfortunately, this method has its own disadvantages:
- Time is not be shown
- Problems occur with nested/ pyramid quotes;
- Unable to see hyperlinks;

I don't know why we are not able to directly quote posts in locked topics, maybe it is limitations of SMFs.
6342  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin Transaction Fees - Everything in one on: June 11, 2019, 04:14:11 AM
Generally, bitcoin transaction fees depends on what's going on on bitcoin network. Whenever bitcoin network become more crowded and clogged up by more transactions waiting to be confirmed, transaction fees for miners will be boosted up. Fees will automatically become higher. However, transaction fees have its cycle, that highly correlated with bitcoin price.

Three best tools

Jochen-hoenicke.de
With this site, you can discover timezone impacts on transaction fees. Details below.

In general, if you are not hurry, please choose the timezones at which fees usually are     low to move your funds.
You can compare the data from this study with the data generated at Johoe's Mempool Statistics page: https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#1,2w. Here's a random 2 week sample I took from last September (click for full size):
The dates along the bottom are at midnight (00:00) UTC. So you can see from this sample, there is a spike in fees on most days between around 10:00 and 18:00 (when Europe and then later America are awake), at which point they start reducing, and hit a low point around 01:00 - 04:00 UTC. This certainly ties in with the data from OP's study.

It's something I've casually noticed, but never given much though to. But considering it now, I wouldn't have expected such a constant and similar drop given that China has more people than Europe and North America combined.

mempool.space has upgrades in their website graphics and more features. In the past, you can not hover mouse on the chart and see fee rate bands like with jochen-hoenicke.de chart.

[Telegram Bot] Bitcoin Fees - fees and tx tracker to get its notifications.

This bot: @BitcoinFeesAlert_bot

If you are not hurry, and can wait 1 to 3 days to see your transactions finished, you can apply those tricks below.

Overview of network situation:
Please visit this page to check total unconfirmed transactions:
https://www.blockchain.com/btc/unconfirmed-transactions
To have better overview, you can get the chart of unconfirmed transactions there: https://www.blockchain.com/charts/mempool-count?timespan=60days
From the chart, it is clearly that we have been in good period to move bitcoins.

There is a better site, https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#1,8h (look at the third graph).
Thanks @o_e_l_e_o.
This a poor graph to use to visualize the mempool in the context of working out a fee. A better choice is the third graph on Johoe's site here (https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#1,8h) entitled "Mempool Size in MB".

The reason for this is because the graph you linked to shows the number of unconfirmed transactions, whereas the graph I've linked to shows the size in MB of these unconfirmed transactions. Why is this important? I'll use two examples to illustrate my point. Lets say first of all that the mempool contains 10,000 transactions, but each transaction is less than 250 vbytes in size. This means the mempool is actually relatively empty at only 2.5 MB, and could completely empty in only 3 blocks. Conversely, lets now say the mempool contains only 1,000 transactions, but they are all huge consolidation transaction from various exchanges, and each one is 30,000 vbytes in size. Now the mempool is the fullest it has been in months at over 30 MB.

So using the graph you linked, if we see 1,000 or 10,000 transaction, we don't actually know how full the mempool is because we don't know the size of those transactions, which is what actually matters. Blocks are limited by size, not by number of transactions. A block could contain anywhere from 0 to over 4000 transactions.

Check historical chart of transaction fees:
Please check it there: https://tradeblock.com/bitcoin/historical/1w-f-tfee_blk_avg-01051
1W fee-chart
1D fee-chart
Generally, as of writing, transaction fee has been on its upwards trend, as same as bitcoin. Fortunately, it is likely that fees have decreased dramatically since its latest peak around 4th - 5th June 2019 (you can see it in the 1D fee-chart.)

You can also check the average time to find blocks to get overview of network transactions: https://www.blockchain.com/btc/blocks

If you don't want to join fee wars and unknowingly help miners to increase transaction fees for their benefits, you should use this page to get recommend fees:
https://coinb.in/#fees
Quote
This page will give you a guide on the lowest fee to use to get your transaction included within the next few blocks. It works by predicting the size of a transaction and comparing it to another transaction in a recent block to determine an appropriate fee.
There are some options for you, and you should choose appropriate one for your interests
As of writing, and for few coming blocks, recommended fee is at 2260 satoshis for a transaction of 260 bytes (1 input - 148 bytes, and 3 outputs - 102 bytes)
Fees depend on other factors, like numbers of inputs and outputs (please see the image below for more details).

Other sites
There are other sites to check recommended fee:
https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx
You can see that if you choose fee < 20 Satoshis/vbyte, your transactions might have to wait more than 12 hours to get confirmations. That is a hint for you to consolidate your small bitcoin with cheap fees (that presented in LoyceV's topic).

https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/ (the site gives predictions on delay time with specific fees. It means you can know how many blocks and minutes your transactions will be waited to get confirmations at a specific fee.)

There is a site: whatthefee.io, that gives you a detailed table in which you can find pairs of fees and waiting-time to get confirmation. The site dynamically updates their information corresponding to the bitcoin's network status.

In addition, applying guides of LoyceV to move your coins when network provides you great chance to move funds around with low fees.
[MAY 2019] Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs!
I added some images to visually describe how to enable manually editing fees feature and how to manually set fees:
Choosing the address you want to send your bitcoin from that, for example, I have an address that have 0.00125 BTC in total; I click on Max button (only do this if you have small amount of bitcoin in that address); then type fee (at 1 satoshi/ byte); I can see total available bitcoin to send after subtracting fees is at 0.0012489 BTC
Now, what if with the same address, same amount of bitcoin, how many bitcoin will be availble to send if I set fee at 100 satoshis/ byte. Only 0.00114 BTC will be left to send. Please look at it:

Bitcoin transaction fees (in sats/kb). Sunday, Saturday are best to move BTC

One of the craziest period of crypto market, with all time highs of bitcoin price and bitcoin transaction fees.
@gentlemand, that $500 million spike looks really weird (around 1/1/18)... Must have been when a lot of people pulled out as their money hasn't returned to this market yet (since we aren't at $20k).
It's more likely it was caused by the very high fees at that time, 800 sat/byte was "normal", resulting in $25 or more in fees for a small transaction, and many thousands of dollars for a transaction with a lot of inputs and outputs.

Bitmex:
Bitmex just launched an analytical website, and one of the pages is dedicated to the fees:

6343  Economy / Reputation / Re: Report a Signature Campaign Spammer! on: June 10, 2019, 01:02:13 PM
Strict rules to select participants at the start will solve all spamming issues.
Inclusive criteria should include:
- Average post quality in the past two - four weeks;
- Time gaps between posts (to exclude burt posters);
- Limited numbers of participants to have selective and competitive selection process from applications.
More competitive, higher quality in average for sure.
At least three criteria will exclude spammers from Stake campaign, then Stake.com will get benefit from their campaigns. Higher post quality, more attractive their posts are, and more benefits for the owners.

6344  Other / Meta / Re: If you're banned because of plagiarism, you can't create another account (?) on: June 10, 2019, 01:34:45 AM
since they already know what it feels like to get banned after reaching a Hero level.
It is not absolutely right with old generations of forum users, before merit system since shitposters ranked up to Hero or Legendary with old rank system likely don't care too much about forum rules. And, before the activation of plagiabot in early of May, there is not to much serious threats for them and their plagiarisms. I meant, before May 2019, plagiarism reporters likely had to find plagiarism manually, then it was not a productive process, definitely. Consequently, people likely felt safe, and don't care too much about rule on plagiarism. Plagiabot started a nightmare, from now on people have to more carefully with their posts, and their intention to plagiarise.

Everyone can find a piece of metal and engrave seed words in such plate, but there is also finished products that can be ordered, something like this : https://cryptosteel.com/
Using this service means we have to let them know our seeds, that are risky in my opinion. I agreed that we should separated seeds and store them in different locations, with different means of storages.

Keepass is a powerful tool to safely store passwords and seeds. However, it is always be true that whatever tools we use, our security depends on our ways to use those tools and our habits on Internet space (web-surfing, downloading, and so forth).
Write down your seed in a piece of paper and never store it online, never take any pictures of it as well.

@BTCgrinders.com,

For 2-factor authentication codes, users should do following things:
- Backup 2FA codes before activate this feature;
- When install 2FA code for your account in apps, users should not use the option "Scan 2FA code". Reasons: You can not recheck the correctness of 2FA codes that you backup. Backup 2FA codes, then manually type them in apps is better. If your codes backup wrongly, you will know it.
- Should backup code in paraphrases, not images.
6347  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I want to know the purpose while this forum Bitcointalk was created as a newbie on: June 09, 2019, 08:18:28 AM
The forum is the place mainly for bitcoin-related things. There are some things you can see:
- In the top of the page, there are boards for bitcoin: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php
- The Welcome topic written by satoshi (a founder of bitcoin and this forum): Welcome to the new Bitcoin forum!
From those ones, it is clearly that the forum has its main purposes for bitcoin (developments, discussions, etc.). Over years, there are more things integrated in the forum, including altcoins; but core purposes of forum are always for bitcoin.

Delete your old bumps. It'll make your thread look cleaner and helps the forum reduce spam messages.
It is not only help to make the service thread looks cleaner, but also help OP to avoid forum rule violation. Please read these rules:
13. Bumps, "updates" are limited to once per 24 hours.[2]

21. Old bumps should be deleted. [2]

Crypto abbreviation, I think I don't need to create another thread for this. Let me know guys if I should create another thread for this post.
It is obviously that you should not create a topic on this, because the forum has a very comprehensive and old topic on crypto abbreviations. You can leave replies and suggest to update OP with new abbreviations found. I knew that yogi has been inactive in the forum, but if there is no new terminology or abbreviations, I don't think you should create a new topic.
Please check it there: Terminology, written by yogi.

I just added your content on OP. Hope you don't mind at all.  Wink
You are welcome, but you have to leave a source of my post, or use quote block. I suggest you to use quote block to avoid plagiarism, and you have to edit your OP as fast as possible to avoid risk of permanent ban due to plagiarism. In my opinion, it should be the best if you use quote block. I saw you deleted that part in the OP, but if you really want to add that content, posting it inside quote block is fine. You don't violate forum rule by using quote block.

                - Email: Users can choose if they want to show their email address to anyone or not.  If ticked then no one can see your email address.
I recommend you to emphasize one point on register email address. Users should choose "Hide email address from public?". Reasons behind hiding email addresses is to protect your account better. It can be called as preliminary protection for user accounts. There are so many attackers, whom will find email addresses and send phising links to email addresses. When they find you, you will be under risks of phising attacks.

This topic is not about add-on or userscripts, but it is a good guide on How to change the appearance of Bitcointalk to dark (Dark Theme)? (written by wwzsocki). I thought it is relevant and helpful to list that topic here. I will watch that topic and see the author will make comparisons between available add-ons for Dark Themes. If the author does it, I will let you know. I am not a big fan of add-ons, so I won't use them and won't be able to make comparison myself.  Wink
In the meantime, enjoy it when you have time and if you are a big fan of Dark Themes.

It's cool to know that Whitepaper of Diamond will be adjusted, and the coming v4 will include Smart contract features that will allows every validator a right to vote (from DAO governance). This version has still been developed and scheduled to release in late (Q4) of this year. One of the most favorite features I waited for is offline staking. I still can not imagine how offline staking can work. Does it still require VPS at least to offline staking? Roll Eyes
There are Diamond's official tweets on upcoming v4:
The upcoming #DMDv4 with #SmartContract features which will be ruled by #DAO governance where every validator will have their voting rights

The estimated release date will be Q4 2019.

The future is bright for #DMDcoin !
Keep in mind that #DMD 4.0 is coming later this year with tons of exciting updates like, offline staking feature, Smart Contract features which support DApps/token creation, DAO governance, etc.

Stay tuned for more updates!

The answer could be yes and no IMO. Yes, everyone can be anonymous while playing on primedice (as long as your IP's country allow you to play on primedice), but it could be No too, especially when you want to cash out big amount, the withdrawal will be processed by manually by them, it means, they (might be) asking KYC for your withdrawal
Thank you for your reply and others for their replies to my curious question on anonymity on PrimeDice site. I understood better that Primedice has good security method to protect their users, but users themselves have to be careful with their habits on Internet as well as on Primedice site. For KYCs to do big withdrawals, I don't think I will fall into such cases, so I can eliminate it from potential risks of losing my ID. Even someone have to do KYCs for their huge withdrawals, I don't think probability to see data leaks from such reliable and very big site like PrimeDice is so rare, barely unable to occur.

I am curious that whether gamblers can be truly anonymous if they don't use TOR when logging in accounts on PrimeDice. I guess the answer is NO, but can you confirm this, please. I believe that basically, online casinos can not guarentee privacy of their users, in terms of users' logging IPs if they don't use TOR when log in their accounts on PrimeDice. Even Primedice does not have intention to disclose user IPs publicly, there are risks of data leaks somehow. Consequently, the best way to stay anonymous for gamblers is using TOR by themselves.

I do see their site isnt still wiped out but they do retain that mixing using through TOR. Theres no such updates or whatsoever on their current condition thats why
we cant conclude anything yet as of this moment.
I thought the same. It is too soon to judge everything with BitBlender. I agreed that BitBlender reacted and communicated badly with their users this time (very short announcement, and did not state how long withdrawals will be opened for their users before the site totally shut down). However, I have a vague feeling that (maybe) the BitBlender was just over panicly with the shit happened with Best Mixer, and reacted this way. Let's see what's next weeks. I hope that when things cooled down, they might communicate more transparently and allow their users more time to withdraw funds.
