I presume there are individuals with thousands? What do they do with them?

^ Yesh.
1843  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just got hacked all Bitcions gone!! on: June 13, 2011, 09:28:18 PM
i had radmin viewer running to check my miners... than left to visit a friend.. forgot to turn it off...
Port scanners are a bitch.
Anyways, sorry this thing happened to you.

Maybe looks around and see who could have gotten access to your computer (radmin) in that time-frame.
I leave my incoming firewall logs running 24/7 (pfSense) just in case something like that were to happen.
1844  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cant mine bitcoins on: June 13, 2011, 09:19:12 PM
Cheers, UNP setting fixed it!  I'm aware a mining pit yields consistent gains, I'm a bit of a gambler and don't mind mining for 1-2 months for nothing for the chance of a 50 BC bounty Smiley
That's probably the best game with some slower computers.
At my rate it would probably take me anywhere from 20-31 days to get 1 BTC. Might be safer just to solo it and gamble.

Seems like you may have fallen asleep with a teamviewer session live?
If your bitcoins were transferred it is possible it could be a bot, as I don't know of any code to push data to an exe whilst its running (though I have seen it before) but have you seen the encryption?
The second most probable cause (other than the teamviewer idea) may be a RAT.

What kind of AV are you running?
1846  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Forums Hosting? on: June 13, 2011, 09:07:31 PM
They probably have some limits on RAM.
With the boost in popularity; it could be possible that the person who's paying the hosting bill doesn't feel the need to upgrade just yet.

^That's what they use, I believe.

In your settings (bitcoin.exe) there should be a setting about UPnP; make sure that's checked.

If you want to mine as a pool look at https://deepbit.net/ or http://www.btcguild.com/

I'm waiting about another month to see how the market works out before I dip into stocks.
I've been watching this project for a year, but for some reason it just boomed.
1849  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cant mine bitcoins on: June 13, 2011, 09:00:39 PM
Well, if you notice...you don't have any connections on your Bitcoin.exe

I personally wouldn't solo, but that's up to you.
1850  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am I the only newbie just buying bitcoins? on: June 13, 2011, 08:57:48 PM
If I didn't have computer knowledge as far as how setups work, I would probably be in your boat right now.
I'm a Stock freak.
Right now is a GREAT time to stock up on current BTC.
1851  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Python miner problems on: June 13, 2011, 04:03:05 PM

I'm having the same problems.
Just have to wait it out.
1852  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help with some coins on: June 13, 2011, 03:22:36 PM
I had requested like 0.01 BTC from BTCGuild and it took till the next day to get enough blocks to be sent to me.

I would of recommended GUIMiner to get started.
Python's more experimental in my opinion.

If bitcoin didn't have a cap (or maybe the cap could be like population control), then I would possibly look into investing in some stocks. Grin

Update (15 June 2011)
Keep looking at this new domain and already have the name I want to get; just need to get 3BTC.
Maybe if I can get people to donate towards the the domain I could list your name on the new site once it's up (thinking about starting the site anyways and worry about the domain later).

The site will have a Donators tab (clearly noticeable) with the list of people who contributed to the project (at the top will be the people who contributed to the projects first 3BTC to get the site going).

Username - Amount Donated - Donation Address

Username can be Anonymous upon request.
Donation Address is optional and can be updated via PM.

Don't want to burst your bubble, but Google does check out the website (domain) that is generating the revenue.
If the information doesn't match, the account gets suspended and Google just made more money.
I've got nothing wrong with Google; just trying to save you some time.
That's not true, you can add as many domains you want, as long as they follow the TOS of Google.
Well seeing how your content was just posted public, I'm sure it wont take long for some Spider to pick it up.
I'm not bashing your idea; just trying to help you out.
1859  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Laptop Mining on: June 13, 2011, 02:39:47 PM
The liquid cooling would mainly be for show (~200$) and would keep my computer bellow 150*F-190*F(yeah, I do a lot of stuff ;P).
I don't think I've ever seen my laptop bellow 110*F.
1860  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: DDoS war on: June 13, 2011, 02:28:50 PM
It could be done by anyone who wants a competitive advantage in mining.  If you run a solo mining factory, and own a botnet, this would be the thing to do (assuming you are evil).
Even if you aren't evil it's a good idea to prepare for attacks.
Such as not putting all your assets into 1 pot (deepbit or mtgox...etc).
So far, my assets are stuck in one pot. Grin
