One thing I don't get: If the coins were never moved (is that certain?), then wouldn't a simple backup suffice to recover them and move them to a safe place? And even if there were no backups, it's often possible to recover lost files unless the attacker made a conscious effort to overwrite them.
Also, what about adding a sort of blacklist to the client, to make sure that these coins can never be moved in the future until further action is taken?
In Windows...when you move a file, there are traces which can be recovered. In Linux...when you move a file, you're fucked. Their fault for not having backups.

I've edited my post, for the following reason: those 7GB/hour should mean 7GB in 1 hour, when the traffic flows for real. The rest of the day it pumps out as much as it does in that hour EDIT: I'll be damn 40,6 PetaBytes/s Don't ask cause i dunno what it was. Just found it funny as hell. Even a massive DDoS would't push all this traffic lol 1024b = 1Kb 1024Kb = 1Mb 1024Mb = 1Gb 1024Gb = 1Tb 1024Tb = 1Pb (Petabites) I hardly doubt you or any server could push 1 let alone 40Pb a second.

4.9 cents?
That's what Bitcoins will be worth, IF you're lucky. The government is going to ban your little scam currency into oblivion. Get out while you still can. Don't say I didn't warn you. You're a Potato.

Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Creating a master database of honest traders

I think going as far as taking information about people breaks their anonymity. I believe the users should be allowed to pick-and-choose what information they share, aside from the information already public ( http://www.whatsmyip.org/more/ ). If you look at twitter, they have this option to allow yourself to be verified ( http://twitter.com/help/verified ). Using an option like what twitter offers, will give a trader more credibility but not more trust. Trust would still have to be earned through trading. Information, if chosen to be verified, will be stored on a database (with a website) over a hidden private network (VPN, NO NOT TOR) between the site owners. In order to access the information, you'd have to get in-contact with the site-owners. There will also be a private chat (forum, IRC...something...I don't know yet) that will let users discuss trade privately. Ideas are still going off in my head, and the more feedback about this project the better. Oh yeah...I'm not an artistic site designer in any way.... Development on basics (and maybe some of the advanced parts) of the site will be done over the holidays where as I will only have an iPhone with 3G for 5 days.

1) Yes, always use escrow! 2) Never just assume someone is trustworthy because of proper grammar. I've written many essays (4-5 pages) on how Social Engineering works. 3) I, along with a few others, plan to start developing a Web-of-Trust solution for all traders. It will be a lot faster than using http://bitcoin-otc.com/. I find it a great site, but insane waiting time to register. So, the site in mind will be an instant register. But you have some sort of trust to be able to +rep or -rep someone. If you look through my post, I've made one somewhere about my idea. I'm heading on vacation Monday, so that night I'll start working on it.

The site isn't opening. The site I'm using for hosting had some problems with attacks from different countries. Since I'm on a shared host, there are a few country blocks. Once I start making a little bit of money from selling games...I'll setup a VPS on the open network. I have my wallet sitting on the public network for faster transactions, and my site on a firewall'ed network for secure transactions. Anyways, you can still PM me to initiate a transaction.

For it being a used account with banned games, you'd probably only get 50-60BTC (max) from it...which is still hell of a deal. Using the steam calculator doesn't account for selling your account nor the diminishing prices of games (as well as play-ability) nor what you actually bought the game at (discounts). I wish the seller the best endeavors to selling this account, and if the buyer (or any-one else) would like to buy more games for it...they can talk to me. [NB (to my store)]: I don't sell accounts, so buying from TheGrapist would be an amazing deal. Unfortunately, I've never had any encounters with TheGrapist, so I can't necessarily vouch for them.

In programming, it takes more coding to remove the comma. Most people know not to enter it, so programmers don't usually modify the string for it. PHP $string = preg_replace(",","",$string); ...something like that.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcion ATM [video]
|
on: August 14, 2011, 01:45:03 AM

Maybe you could just license + buy one and set it up outside your front door then? I'm more concerned about: User interface and Physical security If someone rips open a bitcoin ATM, they cannot jsut steal the money inside, they can also rob the bank (as the ATM will either have a bitcoind node running or at least some credencials to a remote node). Bitcoin ATMs need built-in guns if people get too touchy-feely. And a face of Samuel L. Jackon yellin "Nuh Uhhhhh Mothafucka" Maybe it can have a sensor that detects movement, and if it does it just shoots the bitcoins to another wallet offline. It also has 2 stun gun probes that shoot out and take care of the attacker. ATM provider would have the private keys to each ATM wallet, so the machine could erase itself upon tamper. How about a mechanically triggered weight that smashes the hd platters? Soak the currency in fuel... On Tamper...light the currency on fire and shoot the BTC to an offline wallet...
