If you can afford 2.4GH/s for mining, why can't you afford an additional $60 for BF3 ? Is this post a joke ?
2222  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 1x VTX Radeon 6990 HD on: October 02, 2011, 12:38:10 AM
No interest? At all?
I'm sure people are interested, but your price ($750 AUD / $730 USD / $750 CAD) may not be attractive to some considering shipping is extra and most can buy a 6990 for $750 brand new off the shelf...myself included, so by the time it's shipped internationally, it's worth more than a brand new card.

Considering it is USED and has been an OC'd Mining Card, you may want to reconsider and try sell it for 'Gaming-Card-Prices' rather than 'Bitcoin@$25-USD-6990-shortage-pricing'.

Just a thought.

Could you let me know what models they are from this link (memory amount ? dual or single fan etc):
http://xfxforce.com/en-us/products/graphiccards/hd%206000series/6870.aspx

I am assuming they are matching/identical cards as well ?

Thanks,

Fishy or not, stock photos don't provide a whole lot of proof of ownership.

Dude, he's selling on ebay. When is the last time you bought something there from someone with 100% feeback, paying with paypal yet demanded "proof of ownership"?
I have spent 10's of thousands of dollars on Ebay on Computer parts, Car Audio and Car parts for my Skyline GTR resto project using 3 Ebay accounts that total over 2,000 feedback as buyer/seller and 100% rated, have a Paypal account that had a rating of nearly 2,000 before the rating system was done away with and I have only been burned ONCE (International shipper, damaged item, no Paypal protection).

100% feedback you say ? from a seller with 3 unique buyers, 4 sales under $20 and a fluke 5970 sale ? I'LL TAKE THE TIME TO COVER MY ASS, as I have always done in the past. THANKS.....

It's too bad that you are using stock photos for everything and didn't include any pics of the actuall products because I am in Canada and would have bid the shit out of nearly everything posted under that Ebay user profile.......

Fishy or not, stock photos don't provide a whole lot of proof of ownership.
2226  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER CPU/GPU miner, GPU overclock+monitor+fanspeed in C for linux/windows/osx on: September 19, 2011, 05:46:46 AM
in windows7, how do u guys restart your cgiminer every 30 mins? in case there is card that crash, at least it restarts

I'm using a scheduled task that runs a batch file using grep for Windows to check the log every so often for the word DEAD. If it finds a line containing that, I have another set of batch files that then run to make a backup copy of the log for later analysis, clearing the log, and restarting cgminer. Not the most elegant solution, but it seems to do the job.
Or, an even less elegant solution is just scheduling a 'kill task' and 'start task' every 30 minutes regardless of the state of things. Nothing fancy, but it works.
2227  Economy / Goods / Re: WTB: HD 5770's on: September 16, 2011, 03:51:07 PM
I have 2. You can have them for €130 excluding shippig from the Netherlands
I appreciate the offer, but they would be somewhat overpriced and closer to brand new local pricing by the time they reached Canada.

Thanks anyways.

Considering I have been mining for about a half a year, I almost feel stupid for having to ask this question....BUT;

Why do some pools produce up to 10-15% stales at times, while other, using the EXACT SAME SETTINGS produce less than 1-1.5% ?

I have no clue what it takes to set up a pool for mining, but I assumed it was pretty standard yet I notice that some mining software is more friendly at certain pools than others.

On my PPS Pool, I am able to get away with about 1% stales (CGMiner kicks ass!), while on a Proportional Pool that I mine on, I get approx 10-14% Stales constantly and the only thing that differs in my settings are the login details......LOL

I used to notice the same while using Guiminer and switching between Phoenix & POCLBM, depending on which was faster on certain pools and generated the least number of stales.

Any comments ?
2229  Economy / Services / Re: Rent my 7 Video Cards 5870 on: September 16, 2011, 06:05:17 AM
Hi all,
I have a 7 ati radeon hd 5870 that I offer you. Here is the deal:

You can rent 1 card for 1 week for 19USD
You will need to tell me where you want the card to mine - pool, username and password. ( in many pools you can make a separated miner account )

Each card work with around 440-450 mega-hashes / second

I accept paypal ( send a payment as a gift ), moneybookers, bank transfer to EU bank.

You can rent more than 1 card.

Regards,
Saykor

I would consider a 1 year/52 week contract, but might need a $1/month discount, as renting each card for $19/week over a 1 year period might be a bit expensive for me in the end ($988 for each card for 1 year)....
Perhaps someone could tell me, is $980+ USD/year a good deal for the rental of a 5870 ? ...LOL

Perhaps we can work out a deal on partial trade ?

I have a $25,000 Car that I could rent to you for $2,500 per week, but I would need a 20 week commitment from you on the car.

Let me know.

PING: Windows Miners (perhaps Win7 x64) ....or anyone who has had VOLTAGE CONTROL problems.

I can't seem to get VOLTAGE CONTROL working on any of my cards. Could anyone offer advice ?

I am using the latest version of CGMiner w/11.8 Drivers and have a selection of 5770, 6870 & 6950 Cards that do not seem to recognize the voltage flag in my BAT files. I have also tried changing values INSIDE of CGMiner and again, failed....so, same results.
I know that a few of my cards will never work properly (Asus 6950 DCU II cards) in terms of voltage control, but most of my 5770 & 6870 cards are all REFERENCE models and SHOULD work....but seemingly, do not.

I simply added:
Quote
--gpu-vddc 1.2
....along with my regular settings and none of the cards seemed to be affected by the voltage increase as confirmed in CGMiner & GPU-Z.

Complete BAT file looks like:
Quote
cgminer -o http://pool:port -u username -p password -I 8 -Q 10 --auto-fan --gpu-vddc 1.2 --gpu-engine 975 --gpu-memclock 300 --temp-target 70

Everything works EXCEPT for Voltage increases.....Help ?

Thanks in advance,
Allan

damn, this software sucks balls... guiminer FTW !!!!!
What do you find that sucks about Cgminer ?

I actually used Guiminer up until about a week or so ago, then switched to Cgminer and could never go back.
Cgminer has it all. Mining, Management, Monitoring and Overclocking all-in-one and if you can write a simple BAT file, you are on your way and takes FAR LESS TIME to configure than even Guiminer, which I had to admit, as nice when I was a complete mining noob.

I don't see how anyone could NOT love this software.

2235  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER CPU/GPU miner, GPU overclock+monitor+fanspeed in C for linux/windows/osx on: September 13, 2011, 12:41:54 PM
Just thought I would share this little tidbit for unfortunate Windows miners, such as myself......lol

I was having a difficult time with my OVERCLOCK settings being applied at startup in my BAT file, when auto launching CGMiner.
I use Windows7 x64 on all my mining rigs. I only found this problem happening on my 69xx rigs and think it has something to do with POWERTUNE.

It seemed that my settings would not be applied if the ATI Control Panel took too long to load and I confirmed this using GPU-Z.

My initial BAT file was very simple:
Quote
cgminer -o http://server:port: -u USERNAME -p PASSWORD --gpu-engine 900 --gpu-memclock 300

I downloaded the SLEEP utility from here and pasted a copy of it into the folder where my BAT file is:
http://www.computerhope.com/dutil.htm

I added a 20 second delay and now my BAT file simply looks like this (simply change the value for your own requirements):
Quote
SLEEP 20
cgminer -o http://server:port: -u USERNAME -p PASSWORD --gpu-engine 900 --gpu-memclock 300

This gives the ATI control panel roughly 20 seconds to load before the overcloking settings and actual mining portion of my mining startup script starts (shortcut to BAT file in the STARTUP folder in Windows, BAT file in cgminer home foler).
Now my overclocking settings are applied without any problems each time.

**Again: This only applied to my HD6950 setup. My 6870 & 5770 Mining rigs running Windows were NOT affected and did not require the SLEEP app. I think this had something to do with the Powertune setting in the control panel, as that is the only thing different between all of my rigs.

Hope this helps someone,
Allan
2236  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER CPU/GPU miner, GPU overclock+monitor+fanspeed in C for linux/windows/osx on: September 09, 2011, 04:34:42 AM
Changing S will not significantly change much of anything at all I'm afraid. Your GPU will probably finish a work item in significantly less than 1 minute and then get more work. The 1 minute cutoff is used to decide the latest possible that a solution would be allowed to be submitted. So if you find a share in say 30 seconds, you have up to 30 more seconds to submit it (bad network conditions will limit that). cgminer only gets work as often as it needs to keep your GPU busy, and GPUs should never run out and hit the 1 minute cutoff unless you significantly increase the number of threads per GPU. The other thing is cgminer can use existing work to generate more work (rolltime it's called) to keep getting useful shares out of the same work for up to 1 minute. If you significantly decrease -s to less than how long it takes for your GPU to find a share, you are more likely to throw work away unnecessarily. All in all, don't bother changing it, but it would be ideal to get at least 1/m Utility (i.e. 1 accepted share per minute) per thread, which would be 2 per device.
So -s can't be used as an easy-share cherry picker ? low -s, perhaps -s 15, so that your GPU gets 15 seconds to solve otherwise it moves on. This combined with a large que should theoretically help with a higher output, no ? A sort of 'PPS cheat'....LOL, just pick off the easy ones and dump the rest....lol
2237  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER CPU/GPU miner, GPU overclock+monitor+fanspeed in C for linux/windows/osx on: September 09, 2011, 04:12:14 AM
you're supposed to use two way vectors, and 256 worksize when you underclock to around 1/3 or sometimes a little higher or lower

so I use -w 256 -v 2 -I 8 --gpu-engine 755 --gpu-memclock 250 on my 5750
Thanks for the tips so far. They have all really helped. I will give this a shot as well. I completely forgot about toying with WORK size as everything has just been so impressive thus far.

Onto the next step in optimizing....

Could someone please help by explaining the '-s <arg>' flag ?
Is this simply a work timeout ? Like with the default being '60', if a worker thread is unable to calculate/submit a hash within 60 seconds, it simply ditches the work and moves on to the next work unit ?, rather than being stuck for any longer and wasting time ?

As a PPS Miner, I would really like to get the highest share/hour count that I can....which also brings me to effective worker thread counts. CGMiner is a great monitoring tool to help with this in small incriments during optimizations that one might try.

On average, what would be a sufficient Mh/s per thread ? what would be counter productive ?
With Default being 2, my 5770's @ 220 Mh/s seem to work quite well. With this in mind, should I change to 3 threads for my 6870's (300 Mh/s) and perhaps 4 threads for my 6950's (just under 400 Mh/s) ?

Would using a combination of a lower work unit timeout (-s flag) and increased thread count (1 thread per 100 Mh/s) be an effective optimization strategy ?

Hopefully I understood the concept of the -s flag, otherwise, this post was mostly a waste and it's back to the drawing board....LOL

try underclocking your mem clock to around 300 mhz or so, or about 1/3 of your core clock
I just finished underclocking the memory on all my DEDICATED RIGS that use 5770's, 6870's and 6950's......AND THE RESULT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE (based on my past testing anyways....).

Another small performance increase on all platforms, TEMP seems steady with no real change to mention.

This has NEVER worked for me before and has nearly always resulted in excessive stales, poor performance and instability, especially with the 6xxx series cards.

That also reminds me, forgot to add another thing to my list above:

What I have experienced:.....continued.
- Constant 6-9% (5-7% w/1:1 mem above, 6-9% w/300Mhz Mem) performance increase on 5770, 6870 & 6950 Cards using unoptimized/default settings.
- Dead-Nutz Clock, Temp and Fan control using the 3 cards above.
- the cleanest/easiest installation yet.
- UNDER 1.5% Stale shares. Most times, single digit stales on triple+ digit accepted.
- Definately Love.....LOL

I am not sure if this makes a difference, but all my Mining Rigs run Windows7 x64 with atleast 4GB of RAM (some have more, because I have it to spare). Also, all my rigs are Intel LGA1366 Based i7 desktop CPUs or LGA1366 Quad-Core Xeons (because I had them, no other reason). For my dedicated Miners, My excessively-SPEC'd CPU/Motherboard setups are in NO WAY a reflection of my desire to increase performance...they were just put to use because they were already here and I didn't have to purchase anything else, for the most part.

Can anyone suggest any other CMD LINE optimizations that I might use in my Start-up BAT Files to further increase performance ?

Cheers,
Allan
2239  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER CPU/GPU miner, GPU overclock+monitor+fanspeed in C for linux/windows/osx on: September 09, 2011, 01:16:34 AM
I don't understand how this is possible.

CGMiner is the FASTEST miner I have ever used and accomplishes equally impressive results on 3 different generations/sub-generations of cards that I mine with.

There have been other miners that are better suited for 69xx or 68xx cards or even 57xx or 58xx, but nothing I have come across that performs well on all platforms.

To the lay person (as well as myself at first), I almost felt that by trying this package, that I would almost be going BACKWARDS. but that couldn't be further from the truth, as I replaced MSI Afterburner & Guiminer with simply CGMiner as a do-all program. Comparing dedicated identical machines side-by-side told me everything I needed to know.....

What I have experienced:
- Constant 5-7% performance increase on 5770, 6870 & 6950 Cards with NO OPTIMIZATION (all auto settings).
- Dead-Nutz Clock, Temp and Fan control using the 3 cards above.
- the cleanest/easiest installation yet.
- Love ? .....LOL

For hopeful longevity, I DO NOT INCREASE VOLTAGE on any of my Rigs. Here are the basic settings and contents of the BAT files I use:

5770 Workstations (Mild Static OC using ATI CPL, Dynamic -I)
------------------------------------------------------------
cgminer -o http://pool:port -u username -p password

4x 5770 Dedicated (Simple setup - No problems)
----------------------------------------------
cgminer -o http://pool:port -u username -p password -I 8 -Q 10 --auto-fan --auto-gpu --gpu-engine 950 --gpu-memclock 950 --temp-target 70

4x 6870 Dedicated (Even using -Q 10, still reports Server can not supply work fast enough)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
cgminer -o http://pool:port -u username -p password -I 8 -Q 10 --auto-fan --auto-gpu --gpu-engine 935 --gpu-memclock 935 --temp-target 70

2x 6950 Dedicated (-I 9 too agressive, driver errors, -I 8 stable)
------------------------------------------------------------------
cgminer -o http://pool:port -u username -p password -I 8 -Q 10 --gpu-powertune 20 --auto-fan --auto-gpu --gpu-engine 900 --gpu-memclock 900 --temp-target 70

To say I am happy, would be an understatement. I will definately support and donate to this project.

Corrupt Open CL/APP SKD....I had the same problem and tried multiple miners before I found the problem.
Uninstall the SDK, re-install and everything should be OK.

To confirm this before doing anything, just open GPU-Z and it should open with an error telling you that there is an Open CL problem.

Hope that helps,
Allan
