1144  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.877 BTC for 180GH/s on: April 18, 2014, 04:00:43 PM
Just wanted to post an update on my BTC refund situation. Months back, I accidentally overpaid by 2x the amount on an order due to blockchain.info issues at the time.

Ive been hammering bitmain w/ emails and been getting responses off and on since then about a refund of the overpaid amount. Initially it seemed they understood I wanted the BTC returned to my addy but they instead credited my account w/ a coupon of the overspent amount which is what I didnt want.
I never did spend the coupon and proceeded to keep hammering them w/ emails, finally this morning I woke up to find the overspent amount back in my wallet.

Finally bitmain came through =)

Now, the moral dilemma , to spend the coupon that still sits on my account for the overspent amount and consider it 100% interest for holding my btc for months....or not use the coupon at all =P
1145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC transfer are too damn slow! on: April 18, 2014, 02:52:42 PM
I wonder something...

How does mining difficulty affect transaction speed ?

Mining difficulty adjusts automatically every 2016 blocks to try to keep the confirmation speed close to 10 minutes per additional confirmation after the first confirmation.

The difficulty has no direct effect on transaction speed.  Transaction speed directly depends entirely on how well connected your wallet (and your recipient's wallet) is to the rest of the network, what the internet bandwidth is of the peers, and whether your transaction has extremely small outputs.

Yeah, transaction broadcast speed is quite amazing actually.
1146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC transfer are too damn slow! on: April 18, 2014, 02:51:19 PM
Technically a fully confirmed transaction has 6 confirmations ...

Up to 6 confirmations there are several documented attack vectors that can be used against it....

It just hasnt happened because the cost of doing so, is astronomically high.

Much like anything in computer security, it all can be hacked, but time & cost make many attacks not worth it.
1147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Energy and Enthusiasm is Dying. Bitcoiners are Growing Tired. ZZZZzzzzz.... on: April 09, 2014, 05:04:59 AM

Danny,

I'm not a skeptic, I'm hopeful. I've invested quite a bit in mining equipment and still continue to mind this day… It just seems as if it's such an uphill battle, that never ends.

Hey, at least if the price crashes low enough, miners will jump ship, diff will go down and smart miners can once again get a "decent" amount of coins ...

Mining demand ALWAYS follows price....

People get this backwards for some reason and often.
1148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Energy and Enthusiasm is Dying. Bitcoiners are Growing Tired. ZZZZzzzzz.... on: April 09, 2014, 05:03:29 AM

I'm looking forward excitedly to the next 2 to 5 years.

Yep yep! You said it! Just look at what took place in the Bitcoin "world" in the last 2-3 years... we've come a damn long way!
1149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Energy and Enthusiasm is Dying. Bitcoiners are Growing Tired. ZZZZzzzzz.... on: April 09, 2014, 05:01:40 AM
This has ALWAYS happened after the hype starts dying down, shit starts blowing up, panic lovers leave bitcoin, media quiets down... It stays like this for quite sometime until the next world crisis happens or the next country "discovers" Bitcoin ... then the hype train starts back up, people get excited, its all over the media, prices rise.

Its all part of the growing process for something as new and potential to be a game changer as Bitcoin.
In fact, during the period of Bitcoin seeming "all but dead" ... is the time for "smart buying" =)

Unless it dies…
Updated my post to explain those events =)

The only time it will permanently stay down if Bitcoin is compromised at the core in a way that effectively breaks its usefulness & security and/or all major world governments ban the fuck outta it.
Also theres one other case, which is the entire population of the world deems Bitcoin entirely useless(hence having no more value).

1154  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-04-01] New Zealand Bitcoin ATMs Unveiled, First Set of Two Lamassu Machine on: April 03, 2014, 04:49:36 AM
These machines are pretty freakin cool... their price and ease of use, also ... each weighs 110lbs ... obviously some thick freakin steal protects the cash...

Anyways, would be awesome to get more of these in public, it would make Bitcoin that much more easily accessible for the avg joe.

Its stuff like this, my friends, that will bring Bitcoin to critical mass...
1155  Economy / Speculation / Re: point of maximum pain on: April 03, 2014, 03:33:38 AM
Im gonna call a low of about 250 a la pain trade, but after that the last bull has become a bear, thats when you buy, because when everyone is a bear there is no one left to sell. Ive seen 2.5 bubbles, I got in at the end of the 32 one. I think we will here continuous bad news from china and other governments, going for the kill when its weak, but I think that the VC money pouring into SV, and professional exchanges and services like circle and secondmarket, will establish bitcoin again, so long as the americans dont ban it. Since I am honored to be around some old timers Id like to hear projections about time to next rally and price estimate? or is everyone think the show is over lol..

Kinda veering from the thread here but.... I dont think it matters how much VC money is going into Bitcoin, what it comes down to is if the critical mass wants something like Bitcoin bad enough. If not, those VC's will simply vanish and lose their money as well.

What we need to do is keep spreading the word about what Bitcoin offers, so that way it reaches as many peoples ears as possible, and the more people collectively want it, the less the Gov & press can eventually screw with it! Simple as that.
1156  Economy / Speculation / Re: point of maximum pain on: April 03, 2014, 03:01:04 AM
Capitulation will probably start when we cross the 400 USD mark.

This

Funny you mention the 400$ number, earlier today I Was thinking to myself "when we hit the 300's its othing but a fast decline from there, mass panic sells at this point"

Whether I should just hold my btc or diversify into other stuff.... at this point, is the question. No way am I cashing into fiat, Ive already traded some out into other commodities.
I guess the rest of my btc I will just hold till either 0 or da moon =)
1157  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Confessions of a Bitcoin Addict on: April 01, 2014, 10:06:04 PM
Hehe, we need bitcoin addicts like all of us! We are the ones who will bring it to the masses =)
Its the only way we can prevail! Keep up the addiction and the fight gents!!!
1158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is Bitcoins Purpose? Or have we Forgotten.. on: April 01, 2014, 02:58:05 PM

If you think about it, the usd/fiat system is a pyramid scheme too..

Assuming that's true, does that justify the pyramid promotional model of Bitcoin?  More importantly, is this model sustainable?

As for USD, I don't have to buy-in at higher and higher prices to get them.  They are issued for the work we do and thus, everyone has access to them.  Complete opposite with bitcoins.

Hrm ... not sure where you are getting the higher and higher prices buy in.... in case you havent noticed bitcoin has been going down.

Also, sure w/ USD everyone has access to them ... the sad part is hardly anyone gets enough of them and if they do, they become more worthless as time passes ...

Bitcoin is far from a pyramid scheme ... lol

If your the type of person that looks at Bitcoin and says "oh its a pyramid scheme" ... then ur the type of person that looks at EVERYTHING that way.
1159  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Idea] Decentralized Press based on Bitcoin's Protocol on: April 01, 2014, 02:47:52 PM
Something like this could work, I had the same idea in using it as a "library" in sort of ways. But, putting data other than text in it would explode the blockchain size and make it nearly impossible to be stored in a p2p fashion. So, media is outta the question =/

The blockchain's purpose is to really serve as a historical set of records that are the truth and cannot be changed or duplicated. All done w/o a central authority. So, anything else other than a currency this could be advantageous to in the digital world ... would be the next step of the blockchain. Kinda like the digital asset proof scheme being worked on next.  Is there any other type of data that could benefit from this type of system? hrm... I dont know...
1160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is Bitcoins Purpose? Or have we Forgotten.. on: April 01, 2014, 02:44:07 PM

Makes sense...draw in the investors looking for a quick buck, then they'll draw in more in hopes of increasing the demand and price of the crypto, leading to wider adoption, until the choice comes down to the majority or rest of the population to accept it as a currency or not, even though it already functions and is used as a currency.

That's called a pyramid scheme and that's why Bitcoin's not working.  You can't have a currency with the mantra of "buy and hold", when they need to "buy and spend".  Otherwise, Bitcoin is not useful and it remains poorly distributed.  Doesn't matter how many business jump on the free advertisement hype, people can't spend what they don't have.  I'm not sure what Bitcoin's purpose is other than "to the moon".  Good for speculators (maybe) useless to the general public.

If you think about it, the usd/fiat system is a pyramid scheme too..

If you think about it harder, the whole human existence is a pyramid scheme too...

Some pyramid schemes are just necessary for our survival.

And fiat, luckily, aint necessary for survival =)
