2901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [SOLVED] Bitcoin's chicken and egg problem on: March 19, 2012, 09:01:39 AM
member growth rate already slowing down. so much for the chicken&egg problem....
Yes, although I see potential in ogrr, this thread title is laughable.

CHICKEN AND EGG PROBLEM SOLVED! JUST GOT TO SOLVE ANOTHER CHICKEN AND EGG PROBLEM (OGRR COMMUNITY) FIRST!
2902  Other / Off-topic / Re: An Anonymous Bitcoin Board: No Mods, No Masters on: March 19, 2012, 02:18:19 AM
Theymos is an anarchist and literally only stops postings when they don’t follow one rule or would cost him the forum.
And that’s why he is suited to be an admin.

BUT NOOOOOOOOOO! NO MODS, NO MASTERS! Cry

Even 4chan has mods, you fool.
2903  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's called a correction (waveaddict's bitcoin charting subscription thread) on: March 18, 2012, 07:37:38 PM
Haha, alright.

No, for me it’s cut off at "In other" and I only see a quarter of the next line or so. Huh
2904  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's called a correction (waveaddict's bitcoin charting subscription thread) on: March 18, 2012, 07:30:27 PM
Am I the only one for whom 105.png is cut off so I don’t see the rest of 7) and can’t see 5)?

I fully agree with what it says BTW. I was quite tempted when there was good liquidity in the 5.3s. I used to only sell into bid walls as they broke, but unfortunately we don’t have many of them anymore. Not really big ones at least.
2905  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-Qt, bitcoind version 0.5.3 released on: March 16, 2012, 10:18:30 PM
both Wladimir and Gavin disagree with reverting the progress bar fix, sorry.
Why? What sense does it make? A 99% bar is simply useless.

If most of the users do not like it (as is my impression), then I see no reason why it should not be reverted. Maybe vote?
2906  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-Qt, bitcoind version 0.5.3 released on: March 16, 2012, 05:29:41 PM
I would like the old progress bar back. This one is just useless.
2907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: worth the wait? on: March 15, 2012, 06:04:15 PM
I think if I had been in this position I'd have been buying more over the past couple months to lower my average price.
I did this last March/April when it went down from a dollar.

If you are certain about Bitcoin’s future, I would recommend it. Or best yet, put aside a bit of money every month if you have an income and save it in Bitcoins.

It should be cents, not dollars, based on present need, and tens of cents or maybe a buck net present value based on the potential (no, it's not INEVITABLE!!! no matter how many people try to convince you of that) that it could become a really big thing.
Too bad the market is disagreeing with you for over a whole year now. Grin
2908  Economy / Economics / Re: The early-adoptor unfairness on: March 15, 2012, 04:35:00 PM
The risk for the early adopters was that all the time they spent writing and testing code, all the money they spent on electricity for CPU-mining, all they time they spent disseminating information, all of that might come to nothing.
You didn’t have to do any of that except spend a bit on electricity to qualify.

I’m sorry for these early miners, they really took a huge risk just like the people who do folding@home. Can’t imagine what it must be like to be afraid that the CPU electricity you invested might all be for nothing. Grin

As I said, I firmly believe the bigger risk was taken by the later adopters when Bitcoin valuation rose quickly and the infrastructure began to collapse.
2909  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitscalper back to business on: March 15, 2012, 03:46:14 AM
I'm still wondering how so many of you guys fell for this scam.  Cry

"Give me your money and I'll give you unthinkable returns forever by using the 'magic of technology'." Isn't this the most basic of scam beginnings?

Am I missing something?
You forgot something: Trusting a completely anonymous person with your capital.

And yes, Bitcoiners are probably the must gullible people I heard of.

2911  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitscalper back to business on: March 15, 2012, 12:18:04 AM
Am I the only one tired of seeing these bitscalper threads around here?  Often I'll see that there are new posts in my favorite speculation forum only to find that they're happening in this thread.
No, I’ve been wanting to complain for weeks, but I thought it would go away if I just ignored it.

It doesn’t even have anything to do with price speculation.

Help me report all this crap.
2912  Economy / Speculation / Re: calling the short-term top on: March 14, 2012, 11:03:46 PM
i just think we'll retrace to $5.20 before resuming UP.
Why on earth would one even bother to call this micro stuff?
2913  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin up. on: March 14, 2012, 09:44:59 PM
There is data out there that QE's have diminishing effect. The game is up and deflation is upon us. All assets but cash will fall in this scenario, gold and stocks and in most countries housing are the first to the block.
My goodness, a Bitcoin bearish Vladimir? Grin Grin

i think Bitcoin surprises everyone.  look at the last few days since gold has been plummeting.  Bitcoin UP.
Really, I’m not sure on this one.

My fear is that Bitcoin is viewed as such a risky asset that it’ll be the first to be sold off once people really NEED some cash. Also that in times of depression, people won’t have the time and resources to build up the fragile hobbyist thing Bitcoin is atm.

I sure hope it will surprise me though. I’ve always viewed it as the next Gold.

Done multiple deals with NothinG in the past, all went smoothly (purchases of Steam games).
2916  Economy / Speculation / Re: Nagle on: March 14, 2012, 12:34:47 AM
Nagle, are you long yet? You are suspiciously quiet.
2917  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin up. on: March 13, 2012, 09:30:52 PM
And you still think Bitcoin won’t be affected by a USD deflation?

To me it seems like the first asset to be liquidated in terms of risk.
2918  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin up. on: March 13, 2012, 09:11:11 PM
If there is a bubble with gold it's a small/medium one at best.
You must be kidding me too.

Do you really think you can just about buy the same stuff with Gold as you could 10 years ago? All just inflation? And if there has been growth in purchasing power, that it is all natural and not at all speculative? Grin Grin Grin
2919  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica on: March 13, 2012, 09:01:28 PM
Why did you people not listen?
2920  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold is collapsing. Bitcoin up. on: March 13, 2012, 08:57:05 PM
Gold is not going up. It's the dollar that's losing value.

If anything in the marketplace should be the yardstick of value, it is gold, not USD. So you should price USD in terms of gold and you will see a very different picture. Don't let the "upward run" of gold deceive you. Gold isn't changing, the dollars are.
Are you kidding me? The gains in Gold the last 10 yrs or so reflect much more than just the inflation, it’s a speculative bubble.
