Look at it this way. The life expectancy of doctors is still under 80 years on average. So, if these smart guys don't live that much longer than the rest of us, why would we think that they are telling the truth about much of anything they say?

Don't doctors want to live longer? And if they can't make themselves live longer, why would anyone think that they can prescribe the truth to somebody else?

Cool

Why do you even bother going to doctors or hospitals?  Just pray to your Lord!

All religious people should have faith in God, not hospitals or doctors.

1262  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Atheists/agnostics, do you feel afraid or fear that what if you are wrong? on: June 04, 2019, 01:32:05 PM
I was once a firm believer in God.

I just thought it made sense to believe in a God who's all powerful, all knowing, and I thought that's the only way the universe began, by the creation of God.

I was a believer not blindly, but, by choice. Because, my logic said that there is a God.

It's my same reasoning that has turned me into an agnostic today.

When I question, why was the universe so unorganized? Why did God create that piece of black holes thousands of light years away if his focus was on human beings, why would a God be so selfish that he wants eternal praise, what was God doing before creating everything and does God doesn't know something which he doesn't know?

I got the only answer, "you are human and can't understand God as he's beyond logic".

Hence, my weird questions got no satisfaction.

Today, I believe that the universe is itself eternal. Matter can neither be created nor destroyed and needs no God to create it.

However, I'm open to the idea of big bang as well as maybe, a powerful force (which can be called God) created it.

But I don't know, I can just believe. I can never know.

But since I was believer before, one of my part sometimes call me back saying you are wrong. You are on wrong path and just don't want to believe by your own choice. You will be I'm hell for it. And I get scared.

What's your opinion on it? Do you get this feeling too, how do you cope with it?

How did you determine that the only way to create the universe was 'by the creation of God'?
Nobody knows how the universe was created.  Never mind one specific 'way'.
We do not know how Physics laws work on objects smaller than Planck's time or length.

As for being on the 'wrong path', well, my epistemology is sound, and I have no doubt that all religious dogmas are products of the human mind.  The evolutionary psychological trick to help you survive in a magical, dangerous world.

Religions cannot even agree about what 'God' is or it wants.

The fact that there are many religions, denominations, sects, cults should tell you that they are just cultural artifacts.

Religions are time capsules from the time when they were created.  They provide answers to unknowns.

^^^ Actually, it is the idea of protection that isn't crazy.

Tinfoil hats can be worse than not using them. Why? Because they allow radiation to enter from the bottom, which is open. Once the radiation passes into the tinfoil hat, it is focused by the conical shape, and can do more damage to a single spot in the brain than regular un-focused radiation might do to the brain as a whole.

Consider the cooking ability of a solar cooker.

An improperly formed tinfoil hat might be just as dangerous regarding RF.

The point is to think about it before shaping your hat, no matter if it is tinfoil or something else.

Cool

Why do YOU even worry about it?  If you develop cancer, you will be with your Jesus sooner.  You should look at this as a solution, not a problem.

You should be looking forward to death and flying off to heaven on a white horse.

If you want to really get on a fast track, I recommend you convert to Islam and become a martyr.  You will immediately join God in heaven.

This RF issue should be no brainer for people like you.

I recently heard this breakdown of exactly why this system is a danger that I thought was quite eloquent and does a good job getting past the "conspiracy theory" aura around this discussion and covering factually possible application.

Move away from the densely populated areas. Buy a simple phone: https://www.punkt.ch/en/products/mp02-4g-mobile-phone/#buy

Go through Wi-fi and LTE data withdrawal.  Switch to a simple phone/text plan.

Eliminate Wi-fi around your house, use Ethernet.  Limit social media use.

Read books.  Talk to people.  Exercise.

Don't worry about it.

That won't be possible when they want to bring on global WI-FI at blazing speeds that will be shooting through our skulls.  It will be everywhere and you won't be able to avoid it.  Expect IQ levels to drop, cancer rates to rise, and migraine headaches.  Human's aren't adapted to deal with this stuff.

The customer is always right. If no one will be using their Wi-Fi or 5G networks, they will have to disinvest.

Problem is that most people are imbeciles. They want faster porn, snapchat, tons of useless data-hungry apps, online games, maps, movie streaming or whatever else they use their cellular data for, without thinking about the consequences.

It will be what it will be.  The only thing you can do to opt-out of that wireless 'nirvana'.

the West promotes tolerance in their society only and spreading hate and war in other regions of world. You are exploiting Africans from years and using their resources and when they raise their voice against you people you call them intolerant and same is happening in different oil rich countries. What about venezuela North Korea, kim jong is extremist ?

"The West" is not protected from criticism. "The West" does not wag their finger at you telling you that you are Westophobic when you criticize its flaws. "The West" doesn't throw people off of roof tops for being gay, or stone women for being unfaithful. "The West" does not seek to kill people who abandon its Western values. "The West" is not a religion. I assume you are Arab based on your name, excuse me if I am wrong there, but as an Arab you have some cantaloupe sized balls talking to a Westernerer about exploiting Africans. Do you have any knowledge of the ancient (and modern) slave trade run by Islam out of Africa? Every crime you point at the West for Islam has 3 more skeletons in its own closet it is trying to hide. Perhaps instead of pointing your finger out and making excuses you should start looking inward, because the excuses and "whataboutisms" aren't enough any more.
because the West is not a religion, or a belief have no followers. And islam is a religion with over a billion followers and you stereotype all because of few that’s why we hate this freedom of speech and stops world from criticising islam

Islam's ideology will always be criticized because it does not belong in the 21st century.  Nevermind its supernatural claims.

The year is 2019, not 719.  Women and men regardless of their sexual preferences have equal rights.  Slavery has been abolished.
Women can vote and wear whatever they want.  Adultery is legal, so is drinking of alcohol.

Muslims have been terrorized by Islam.  You guys are afraid of your own bullshit.  You cannot criticize Islam, you cannot even draw the main characters from your 'holy' book.  You live under a religious dictatorship.  You are afraid what your family or friends will think of you if you even doubt the bullshit in the Quran.  Islam has you by your balls.  You are a prisoner of your religion.

In short, you are fucked up.  So is your religion.

In your posts please, stay away from anything related to Holocaust.

So 'the science is settled' eh?

I am bringing this up so that you don't have to. That chapter has been closed in Nuremberg a few decades ago. I am seeking a serious answer, political answer, on how Poland could play the ball, maintain moral high-ground, free itself from being bullied by Israel and USA and most

Obtain and apply some Vaseline because the Zionist probably won't.  It's going to hurt.

importantly, avoid being taken over by Israel. What is the best political move that Poland can make to cease these compensation demands, made by no-heirs or by institutions that in no way represent Poles of Jewish origin that died of German national-socialists hands?

You'll be taken over.  My advise would be to brainstorm for how to break out when the time is right and make prepartions to do so.  Stockpile some previsions.

They need to stockpile nuclear weapons now.  Increase the military budget, become the Pakistan of Eastern Europe.

Without nukes, nobody will treat them seriously.  Bullies only respect other bullies.

1269  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do Atheists Hate Religion? on: May 20, 2019, 11:59:55 AM

I think science outpaced our linguistic development.

We humans will never be able to escape our neurophysiologically hardwired,  linguistic meaning making mechanisms - it is rooted to the core of our being. But science has indeed prodded religious linguistics as a superficial kind, a kind that needed a rude awakening, a disillusionment if you will. Yes, it is through the applied methodology of science that religious members became disappointed, dissatisfied  and utterly discontented with the cheap spells that their various sects have so lavishly kept casting on them to keep the poor parishioners illusioned  and falsely enchanted throughout the entirety of their miserable lives.

But you are right, we need new linguistic jargon that will unleash the exploring minds of humans, but keep us grounded in the materialistic reality, through which science has granted us a much fuller, clearer (disenchanted) and sense driven understanding.

Ok one last post before I go because this is so earily similar to something I just read. Uncle Screwtape from the the book by C.S. Lewis would absolutely agree with you here dippididodaddy.

“Jargon, not argument, is your best ally in keeping him from the Church. Don't waste time trying to make him think that materialism is true! Make him think it is strong, or stark, or courageous--that it is the philosophy of the future. That's the sort of thing he cares about.
The trouble about argument is that it moves the whole struggle on to the Enemy's own ground. He can argue too; whereas in really practical propaganda of the kind I am suggesting He has been shown for centuries to be greatly the inferior of Our Father Below. By the very act of arguing, you awake the patient's reason; and once it is awake, who can foresee the result?

Even if a particular train of thought can be twisted so as to end in our favor, you will find that you have been strengthening in your patient the fatal habit of attending to universal issues and withdrawing his attention from the stream of immediate sense experiences. Your business is to fix his attention on the stream. Teach him to call it "real life" and don't let him ask what he means by "real."” - Uncle Screwtape

That is the root cause of the problem.  There is no 'us vs them'.  There is just 'us' in this vast universe.  A constantly evolving lifeform that is capable of being aware of where it is and what it is.

The sooner you realize that the sooner you'll shed the veils of your delusion.

I guess the best advice I can give you is don't jump to conclusions of "what happened or was before the Big Bang", "was there before the Big Bang" or "what is the Dark Energy or Dark Matter" without fully understanding and having evidence to support your conclusions.

Otherwise, you'll look like a delusional, babbling fool.

As for your constant references to the religious cult you were born into, well, they carry no weight in the real world.  As good as any reference to any fictional characters from thousands of other cults humans developed over the years.  You are barking at the wrong tree.

I urge you to re-educate yourself in science, it will provide you with a much clearer picture of what is happening to you and others around you.  It will become abundantly clear that there are no ghosts, spirits, heaven or hell or any of the supernatural constructs human minds managed to contrive.

And that unknown, undefined entity of yours is not it.  If it is undefined and unknown, let it be that.  Don't assign any additional properties to something you don't know or understand.

Try MIT OCW https://www.youtube.com/user/MIT/videos

PS.
Since you like what other people say on the subject, I'll leave you with what Paul Dirac once said:

"I cannot understand why we idle discussing religion. If we are honest—and scientists have to be—we must admit that religion is a jumble of false assertions, with no basis in reality. The very idea of God is a product of the human imagination. It is quite understandable why primitive people, who were so much more exposed to the overpowering forces of nature than we are today, should have personified these forces in fear and trembling. But nowadays, when we understand so many natural processes, we have no need for such solutions. I can't for the life of me see how the postulate of an Almighty God helps us in any way. What I do see is that this assumption leads to such unproductive questions as why God allows so much misery and injustice, the exploitation of the poor by the rich and all the other horrors He might have prevented. If religion is still being taught, it is by no means because its ideas still convince us, but simply because some of us want to keep the lower classes quiet. Quiet people are much easier to govern than clamorous and dissatisfied ones. They are also much easier to exploit. Religion is a kind of opium that allows a nation to lull itself into wishful dreams and so forget the injustices that are being perpetrated against the people. Hence the close alliance between those two great political forces, the State and the Church. Both need the illusion that a kindly God rewards—in heaven if not on earth—all those who have not risen up against injustice, who have done their duty quietly and uncomplainingly. That is precisely why the honest assertion that God is a mere product of the human imagination is branded as the worst of all mortal sins."
1270  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do Atheists Hate Religion? on: May 20, 2019, 12:19:14 AM

Do we know anything or are we just supposed to trust the book?

Empiric knowledge can take us pretty far.

We can use such knowledge to strip away and examine the various layers of our beliefs like so many layers of an onion. Eventually, however, we reach a point were that type of reduction can go no further.

At that point we transition into a different and more fundamental frame of reference. This area has many names. It has been called metaphysics, a priori, faith, religion. The name is not particularly important. The consequences of the decisions made at this fundamental level, however, are profound for they ultimately define who and what we are.

Materialism is one such choice. It is a common metaphysical trap of our era and difficult to escape once embraced.

The "evidence" trap: Why so many modern people are 'stuck' in materialism
https://charltonteaching.blogspot.com/2019/05/the-evidence-trap-why-so-many-modern.html?m=1

The Book is a blueprint. The choice we make as individuals is like visualizing a completed structure from a set of plans and then deciding if that is what we are going to be a part of. Its a decision made ultimately with the heart too not just the intellect. Most important choices are.

The process can be difficult due to our limited perspectives and the signal loss that occurs due to the vast distance between us and the societies of the ancient past. Humanity is a terrible medium to transmit information through.

When deciding whether or not to trust it helps to focus first on the areas least susceptible to signal loss. The parables are nearly timeless and the closest part of the Bible to the source of Christianity. There are not very many of them and I recommend anyone seriously considering the topic to examine them all both with their heart and their reason.

The Parables
https://www.biblestudytools.com/topical-verses/parables-of-jesus/

It has been a pleasure discussing these topics with you all. I have greatly enjoyed the back and forth. I am now called elsewhere and will disengage. I am starting a new business that will monopolize my time so this will be my last post for a while on Bitcoin Talk. I wish you all well on your individual journeys.

Goodluck and Godspeed.

I read your article.  Basically, it says, if science would detect anything spiritual, it would still be considered material, so you would never 'leave' the materialism based worldview.

So what?

I think the definition of materialism does not really describe our current scientific discoveries.   What we consider material, is really mostly empty space, with some probabilistic energy/wave distributions that follow certain physical laws.  Electrons do not really exist as we were thought in school.

We really need a new term to describe people who do not believe in magic, spirits, ghosts, Gods or other supernatural forces or entities.

Maybe we need to call it Energism or Wavism or simply call it SWV (Scientific World View).

I think science outpaced our linguistic development.

Now, as to your point of how to 'get out of materialism prison', well, I am not sure what you are suggesting would work on any 'materialistic' scientist. The reason is that the supernatural is not a testable proposition.  So it will not be even considered.

If you want to change the mind of a 'materialist', you need to speak his/her language.  You cannot talk about scriptures or some emotional subjective experiences.  Instead, you have to talk about things that can be independently tested and validated.

What you cannot do is jump to conclusions or give answers to unknowns based on no evidence. These will be dismissed outright.

The funny thing is that most religious people think that quoting the Bible/Quran/Talmud will help them with their case, nothing can be further from the truth.  It is like talking to the Westboro Baptist and quoting the Quran.

If you want to get the attention of a 'materialist', don't use scripture, use any non-religious evidence for your claims.
1271  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Evolution is a hoax on: May 19, 2019, 11:38:49 PM
^^^ Denying evolution doesn't have anything to do with it. Evolution is there in hoax form. We don't have to deny it.

Dog breeds don't have anything to do with changing animals from one kind to another... except if they are breed changes, which isn't changing one kind of animal to another. Humans are not a breed of some kind of single cell animal that lived in the ponds 400,000 years ago.

If you find DNA in one animal, so what? Proving evolution would take tracking the DNA of thousands or millions of animals over periods of hundreds of thousands of years in the past. As it is, we can't even agree on the ages of some of the fossils. We haven't even started to do what it takes to prove evolution theory evolution (ETE).

You still aren't showing any proof for ETE, which includes many thousands of years. In fact, you are more or less agreeing that there isn't any proof when you say that science dosn't magically provide facts and answers. So, since science hasn't provided ETE facts and answers, maybe science is trying to tell us that they don't exist.

There are only a tiny few facts and answers that might suggest evolution, while not suggesting something else at the same time. They don't prove evolution. They might only suggest that there might be something like evolution. So far, they also show that evolution probably doesn't exist, or that abiogenesis of every "kind" of creature might have been the way.

Since they show this, why say that evolution is fact? We don't know that evolution is fact. When we say that it is, without knowing that it is, we are simply furthering the point that...

Evolution is a hoax.

Cool

Do you do realize that comparative analysis of DNA from living organisms was done to establish the evolutionary relationship between the living species?

Or are you ignorant or completely unaware of the fact?

Put down that Bronze Age classic, pick up some science books.

PS. The discovery of DNA really put a nail in the coffin of your creation story, didn't it?

The root cause of 99% of the issues that the Africans face today is the uncontrolled population explosion. People are afraid to say this truth, because they will be branded as racists. The Africans need more IUDs and condoms. Sending food aid is not a permanent solution. Are we going to send the food aid (in increasing amounts every year) for the next 1,000 years?

+1

You hit the nail on the head.

West needs to cut all help to Africa.  All.

Once you do that, all corrupted politicians will leave or be killed by their own citizens.  As it is now, they wait for IMF loans, then divert them to offshore accounts they control while the poor folks continue to suffer.

They have enough resources to support themselves.

^^^ You pretty much seem to misunderstand what a beneficial mutation is. A beneficial mutation maintains and improves the status quo. A detrimental mutation tends toward the destruction of the organism.

For example. In the simple evolution of the piston engine to the Wankel rotary, the shape of the engine would have to change in ways that would be entirely destructive to its operation. Mutations that would make this change are detrimental. Beneficial mutations would be those that strengthen the material of the piston engine, so that there would be less wear.

In other words, beneficial mutations make the organism more like itself. Making an organism different than itself is detrimental mutation, and maybe a downright destructive mutation.

Beneficial mutations don't change one creature into another. Rather, beneficial mutations make the creature into a stronger version of what the creature already is. They make it more of what it already is. Detrimental mutations do the opposite, and place an organism more into the position of death of the most unfit.

Evolution theory evolution is entirely backwards and opposite of what really happens, and the most prominent evolution theorists completely know this. Evolution is a hoax.

Cool

Beneficial mutations increase the chances of lifeform survival to the reproduction age. Over time, given enough mutations, speciation is observed where animals cannot reproduce with their 'genetic ancestors' and produce a viable offspring.

I think you cannot comprehend evolution because you think that the world is 10,000 years old.  Speciation of apes took millions of years.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_human_evolution

Both types of mutations produce change by definition.

Consider a simple change to a dog, for example. The dog loses one of its hind legs in an accident. It still live and survives. Minor detrimental mutations might not adversely affect any creature so that it doesn't live out its normal life span.

...some other incomprehensible babble...

Again, you are assuming that everyone (that dog in your example) is perfect, to begin with.

You might be a carrier for genetic disorders you have never heard about.
Your mate will have a completely different genetic makeup and your children might have hereditary mutations and predispositions for acquiring somatic mutations that can be very detrimental to their survival.

I think you are conflating somatic and hereditary genetic mutations.  Both can shorten your lifespan in a heartbeat.

I guess you never heard of genetic disorders, food allergies, cancer in babies.
Food allergies, for example, can lead to other life-threatening, life-shortening immune disorders.

Have you ever heard of c-KIT D816V mutation?

Keep learning.

Hopefully, one day. you'll get there.

PS. We are the byproduct of evolution.  Evolution is happening right now.  The genes in your own body might be mutating right now and you'll not know about it until you experience some symptoms.  The genes that you have inherited are a collection of mostly beneficial mutations.

God himself sent others to kill people, you only have to read it, you seem confused...

However, it never talks about others doing any of the killing without God. And maybe even with Him. How is that? Because God is almighty. Anything that anyone does is really done by God, because it is God Who does everything. He has the right, because He is owner. You simply don't understand the gracious goodness of God. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1054513.msg51050551#msg51050551.

Cool

''Anything that anyone does is really done by God, because it is God Who does everything.'' So it's god's fault then when people go to hell.

^^^ Again, you forgot the part that the loving God perfectly does what people ask. "Ask and it will be given you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you." Stop being so ambiguous in your requests so that you will ask only for the things that you really want, and get them.

It's God's doing when people go to Hell, by giving them what they asked for... absence of God holding them out of Hell.

Just push Him a little more. Just a little further. He'll let go of you if you really want Him to. But don't doubt. Really want it, and really ask Him for it... and really enjoy the pain when you get it.

Cool

An all loving god would not make hell in the first place, 5 year old would understand that. What's the purpose of hell? Torture people forever for... what? No point, senseless, only a retard would think that makes any sense.

+1

People who wrote this mythology were retards by today's standard. Walked around with burlap around their neck, barefoot, wiped their ass with leaves, and hopped/praying for the Sun to come up the next day.

People who these books were intended for were probably another 40 IQ points lower, slightly higher than chimpanzees.

You are imagining things that are not there. Not just human senses but all other hi-tech equipment we have developed over the years has failed to detect any God(s).  Abstract truths are just abstract truths.

That is the point.

It is not reasonable to have faith.  Where faith begins, reason ends.

You would not expect to find God with any of that hi-tech equipment any more then you would expect to find William Shakespeare in one of his plays. That does not mean he is not there.

I agree that faith begins where reason ends. All reason can do is clear away the false objections to faith. It does not compel faith. Why do you want to be compelled? It is better to be free to choose what we are.

You are exercising that freedom to choose now whether you acknowledge it or not. You are living your life under the assumption that God does not exist because you have not been able to prove his existence as a discrete entity inside of creation. God is beyond creation. You are looking in the wrong place and with incorrect instruments. The proper direction of inquiry is not external at all but internal.

To me it seems that if you are only doing good deeds because you are afraid of god or because you want to look good for god then you are not a good person. However if you are doing good things just because you want to or you like to make people happy, then yes, you should be considered a good person.

Both situations are potentially problematic. It is best to be doing good deeds because you are in fact good.

One advantage of your first scenario is that it can over time and with increased wisdom gradually change people from worse to better.

One disadvantage of your second scenario is that is that without God it becomes difficult to even define good as anything other then hedonistic pleasure. Misdirected good will towards an end that is not in fact actually good can cause harm.
