The bad thing you did was why did you place the miner on the window if you know that it was very cold outside?
There are lots of issues that can happen like what happens to your miner shorted/burnt fan it is due to moisture or the plug and terminal have full of rust very cold room can make plugs and terminal rusty.

Possibly after you replace the fan it works but you just didn't notice testing it a few times until the miner is hot will make the miner work again.

And take note better check the kernel logs again you should see how it solves your problem.

If you talking about why it needs to be synced to download the first blocks it's because the full node needs the entire history of the blockchain where all transactions are recorded. The Bitcoin full node needs the first and the most recent blocks because it's part of the transaction history on the network so if your Bitcoin core didn't sync you won't be able to verify the transaction authenticity and you won't be able to receive and send Bitcoin or check your transaction history. If ever you are the first one who made a transaction included from the first block then without syncing the Bitcoin core you won't be able to see them and Bitcoin core has limited features if it's not fully synced.

Bitcoin mining in the future will be still the same but the block reward reduce every blockhalving. What I would like you to try is to cool down your miner try to put extra fan and make sure to exhaust hotair/heat from the room.
You can also run the fan at 90% or full speed to help hashboard to cool down.
