1421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help needed with installing Bitcoin Core on a Chromebook on: May 03, 2023, 06:21:32 PM
The path or command you are trying to enter is not the correct path since Chromebook is a Linux-based OS or if you are using Linux VM then try this command below

if the tarball is in My files/Downloads  then this should be the command to go on that path

Code:
cd ~/My files/Downloads

Meaning you forgot to add ~ and /
Update here if it works if not try the pwd command to show the current path you are in.
1422  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: New Version of Electrum (4.4.1) crashing on mac every time I open it on: May 03, 2023, 01:29:59 PM
I have uninstalled the app at present and I'm going to attempt to restore from seed on my friends macbook tomorrow - unless you can advise me to try something different? - I have tried each of the last 3 versions of electrum more than once each without success (4.3.4 says its too old to open that wallet and 4.4.0 / 4.4.1 both crash after I enter my password when attempting to restore my default wallet from seed)

I am not a Mac user but it looks like the Electrum on MacOS automatically loaded your wallet which keeps the latest version to crash.
Better move the wallet file to another folder to avoid such an issue and then restore the wallet with the seed backup.

According to the nc50lc link, you can find the Electrum folder by following this Open Finder>Go to folder (shift+cmd+G) and type ~/.electrum

Make sure to move the wallet file to the safe folder in case your seed phrase backup is different from your current wallet you can able to move the wallet file to another Mac to recover your funds.
1423  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitmain S9 - BraiinsOS - "Noise handshake Connection shutdown" on: May 03, 2023, 01:01:57 PM
Have you tried to use their global server or the alternative server?
Maybe their custom server to a specific country is not more stable than using the global or alternate server.

Another thing that I notice is that the URL you are using is different from their guide I mean the stratum2 on that URL maybe need to remove the 2 on that pool URL.

Check the guide here https://unmineable.com/support/article/how-to-setup-antminer-for-asic-mining/
1424  Other / Off-topic / Re: the manager of my passwords on: May 02, 2023, 04:00:33 PM
Don't use them it's pretty risky I have bad experience saving passwords on the browser and then later will notify you that the password did you use has been compromised.
I'm lucky that I'm saving passwords for non-finance or no money involved sites.

You can just turn off this feature on the settings and always use incognito mode or private browsing mode.

It is much safer if you write all your password on a piece of paper than saving them to this feature or any pass manager plugin.
1425  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: New Version of Electrum (4.4.1) crashing on mac every time I open it on: May 02, 2023, 03:40:38 PM
What is your current Mac version?
According to electrum.org supported version is 10.13 or higher if it's below then Electrum will not run properly.
(Opps very fast respond...)

I would like you to try is to enable debug logging so that we know why it crashes.
You can use the command from the link below.

Then post the logs here.

Do not worry make sure the wallet file is safe or if you have a seed backup then you can just uninstall the Electrum latest version then downgrade to 4.3.4 then import the seed backup to restore your wallet.
1426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: An overclocking program? on: May 02, 2023, 03:28:47 PM
Overclocking program? You are in the Bitcoin mining section where most of the miners here are ASIC based.
If you are going to overclock these units then you will need modded firmware like Braiins OS also it pulls more power so you will need to upgrade your PSU to give enough power to your miner if not then you are forcing your PSU to it's limit and die soon.
1427  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Has anyone used WebMoney before? on: May 02, 2023, 03:20:30 PM
I use WebMoney before to receive payment from paid-to-click sites I don't have any problem but it was a long time ago but right now they do have a bad reputation and heard that their system is totally fraud.

Not good if you trade to someone with crypto they have many bad reviews check this link below

But if you still want to accept webmoney the safest way I think is what OmegaStarScream suggested WMZ to BTC and I think bestchange are able to help you to find a good exchange.
1428  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Raspberry Pi micro SDXC Bitcoin blockchain on: May 02, 2023, 11:41:39 AM
That's a bit expensive if you are going to use micro SDXC compared to SSD and another thing is most of the 1TB Micro SDXC have fake volume and it can cause data corruption so if you download the whole blockchain there is a possibility some parts may become corrupted.

I would suggest better use external SSD for storing blockchain data and use only SDXC with enough space to run an OS.
1429  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where should I start ? Bitcoin & Coding/programming on: May 02, 2023, 11:26:03 AM
If it's all about Bitcoin development then we already have many guides here on the forum you just need to learn how to use the search button or the magnifying glass to find the right guide but if you are lazy then check this link below and you can start reading DIY guides and books under that link.

- https://github.com/yjjnls/awesome-blockchain

Those two should be enough to learn about Bitcoin coding and developments and all you need is already there including the book that you mentioned above.
1430  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trade with Binance's "Convert" tool for $0 fees? on: May 02, 2023, 11:11:44 AM

My question is why many traders to buy and sell use the spot trading (where there are buy, sell buttons and order book) with fees instead of using the "Convert" tool without fees?

Thanks

There are many reasons why traders choose to trade in spot trading compared to just using the convert option.

Look at this sample convert vs spot trading when trading BTC/USDT the rate on convert is low compared to spot trading.

Another thing is you can't able to use stop limit options and no chart compared to spot trading.

Better check them because if you are a trader you will need those charts and stop limit orders.
1431  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Prewarm hashboard - to repair hashboard? on: May 01, 2023, 06:12:43 PM
This common issue even on other units like cellphones, laptop boards, or other boards with ICs reheating or reflowing with a BGA hot air sometimes fixes the issue like the above said it's due to bad or cold solder joints that is why reheating the hashboard will fix this issue but it is not for a long term solution.

Better find the components that cause this issue I suggest starting from the terminal/plugs and maybe it's not soldered properly.
1432  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Scammed? on: May 01, 2023, 05:51:08 PM

I mean that I donīt use a sticky note app at all to store my passwords.
I believe I downloaded it from the "official" Electrum website
I have not given the seed phrase to anyone
I use a virus system.

How do you sure that you downloaded it from the official Electrum website?
Have you verified first if the Electrum is the legit one? I mean verifying the Electrum using the GPG tool before you install the Electrum? because there are lots of phishing sites out there without verifying the installer we can't guarantee that the Electrum you are using is legit or fake.

And what is your current virus protection tool?
1433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why can't regular flash drives store Bitcoin on: May 01, 2023, 05:42:41 PM
You can store your Bitcoin on a flash drive but it depends on you how you protect your wallet.
There is no problem with storing BTC in a flash drive just make sure that you know how to protect your wallets from any attacks.

Anyway, there is a known OS to secure and protect your BTC wallet that you can install into your USB flash drive. Meaning you will need to make a bootable flash drive with Tails OS then you can install your Bitcoin wallet. There is a guide here that you can follow check this "How to Install Tails OS on USB flash drive for Wallet Purpose"
1434  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Scammed? on: May 01, 2023, 02:23:24 PM

But how, I need to insert a password for each time I send?
Itīs not like I have my seed phrase on my sticky notes, itīs not easily accessible, and it looks like this was sent automatically.
It says "self-transfer" when I run a privacy analysis on blockstream.info

What sticky note is that an app or software on your PC? This app might have cloud sync which is pretty risky and possible someone already had access to your wallet.

Another thing is how did you install and know that Electrum you currently use is not fake?

Are you sure that you generated the seed phrase before without 3rd party or someone?

How did you protect your device from viruses and malware?
1435  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What is the most that governments can do if they decide to regulate wallets? on: May 01, 2023, 12:13:18 PM

if you got a VPN access, you can bypass the restriction and download it directly through bitcoin.org

You don't need any VPN you can just change your device DNS to Google or Cloudflare DNS to bypass the ISP restriction. Just like on my internet provider, some Bitcoin-related sites are blocked but by changing the DNS to Cloudflare I can still able to access the website.

They can block some sites like bitcoin.org but there are still many ways to bypass the access VPN or changing DNS should be enough to bypass this.
1436  Other / Meta / Re: Account rank and posts on: April 30, 2023, 10:59:15 PM
I saw some users before deleted some of their old posts even though they had posts more than the activity but still their accounts went ranked down.
However, if your old posts or topics were just deleted by mods I think it won't affect your account unless your post is lower than your activity after your posts were deleted by mods.
1437  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How much percent blockchain on 500GB SSD? on: April 30, 2023, 01:07:33 PM
What exactly your experiment is? Are you trying to shrink the blockchain data?
Or do you just want to know the percentage of total used space of your 500GB when you downloaded the full blockchain?

The current blockchain size according to ycharts is 476.80GB if your SSD is empty and no other files inside then it should be 95.36% used space after you downloaded all blockchain excluding the Bitcoin core files and executable files.

If I were you better use 1TB as suggested above because sooner or later the size would increase and the Bitcoin core won't be able to sync due to full storage.
1438  Other / Off-topic / Re: To Electrum 2FA wallet users and other bitcoin 2FA wallet users on: April 30, 2023, 12:36:20 PM
Google 2FA is just an extra security layer for securing the wallet if it requires syncing online and I think it won't be a problem if you can able to disable the cloud service to sync 2FA backups.

There is option called "Use without an account" where you can use the Google authenticator offline.

And this is not the only authenticator app that we can use.
1439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can i reverse a Bitcoin transaction? on: April 28, 2023, 11:35:52 PM
Double spending is the only way for unconfirmed transactions to send the BTC back to your wallet but the problem is it's only done on the congested network where the transaction is still unconfirmed and if it's not RBF enabled then you can't double spend.

I never sent a BTC to the wrong address if I were you before you send BTC always make sure or double check the address or before you deal with someone always research and ask to someone trusted to avoid this issue in the future this is not the same as Pay Pal that you can dispute and reverse the transaction.
1440  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How can i start bitcoin mining? on: April 28, 2023, 11:14:12 PM
We already have a guide here for newbies who wants to start Bitcoin mining for the first time not only the guide posted above but you can start by reading this "First time/Small miner reference for getting started."
This should be the first part before you buy an ASIC unit and mine.
